I got wine on sale at a decent price. My husband was looking for a beer and walked around and couldn't find one. He found a soda, eventually. This place was just sad. It reminds me of my local Lucky store, which carries a foreboding that I didn't see coming. This place had the same energy. But finding a single beer, which is something you can do here, eluded us. The soda was fine, but it took such a long time to find. Maybe it's a Merced thing, or maybe it's an issue in this tiny pocket. The Dickie's BBQ had the same issue. Low standards, low energy, not caring so much. I say that because the Smart and Final near me is a bit more perkier and energetic and doesn't leave the sense of foreboding that this store has. read more

Little mini escape and this place is up first! Masks worn by workers and required! It's clean and safe and practiced. I came here to get cinnamon and polar ice gum. Easy to find. It's organized well. Easy to find everything! Good deals everywhere! I also bought hazelnut coffee since they carry it! =) Diet cherry Pepsi too! A nice worker greeted me while I was looking around. Had one of the worst retail experience I have ever had and I have been alive for 1/2 a century. Only one cashier More then 30 people in one line. I go to the cashier because I do not see another employee In The entire store. I ask if they can please open another register. She said The only other cashier is at lunch and there is no manager on site. Such poor management I used to love going here when pandemics first started. Great employees. Now all new employees and the service is terrible. There was almost road rage in line and no employee or manager to assist. read more

My wife and in law walked into the store and while in the first aisle was approached by a store rep saying that the manager wanted to look in their toddler's backpack they brought in with them. Instead of buying anything they just left. What's more disrespectful and disappointing is that my wife and I were in the store a few hours earlier (with the same bag with us) and spent hundreds of dollars in the store and was checked out by the same manager that demanded to see my wife's bag. read more

This store is dirty. The coolers are not cold enough. There were pallets of frozen product in the aisles that were thawing, and no one was putting anything in the freezer case...I'm talking ice cream, frozen deserts, frozen chicken...sitting out. The refrigerated section where the lunchmeat is displayed was dirty, there was leakage from packages that had been there a while. It used to be a clean, well kept store. Now it's very disorganized and unsanitary looking. They are ALWAYS out of stock on a lot of things. I used to love this location, now, not so much. read more

Great big store a bit of everything only big sizes. Meat section is a bit small not much choices. Fruit and vegetables are ok good prices. Store is a bit difficult to find but if you need food for a crowd or big family. Then this is the place to shop. Prices are fair so all in all a good place to shop. read more

This store has public restrooms located to the left of the registers after you walk in. To me it appears the prices are higher than food maxx. There are a few employees stocking that are very helpful and will actually take you to the item you are looking for. Also this store appears to believe in only having one maybe two registers open. The best part is the people selling tamales outside. They are delicious, if I could rate the tamales they'd get five stars. read more

When I first start coming here I was getting the 10 pound bag of party wings the store brand. I started noticing that the wings was purple dark brown It happened twice. I just recently stopped eating meat and I was shocked they don't carry Vegetarian Products in their inventory or apple cider vinegar. Everything else is great to stack up on snacks and water always good customer service. Smart and final in other cities just have more Common things in stock. read more

Pretty good selection, clean store and friendly staff. Only issue is the line to pay is usually to the very back by the yogurt giving you a minimum 25 minute wait to pay. If the line was set up like before where the cashiers could see all the people waiting they would call for other registers to open way sooner. I dread going for the wait alone but it's the only store that has what I need. Hopefully they fix this issue soon. read more

I really like this store. I needed help with something and that Manager went above and beyond for me. It was really nice of him. They have really good sales some times, and there cheese in bulk size is the best price in town. Keep your eyes open for there flyer and you can get some really cheep stuff there. read more

Ever since I moved to Merced in 2013, I have been a customer of this Smart & Final location and every time I come, I am greeted by professional and friendly employees who smile, say "hi" and always go above and beyond to make sure customers are happy. First, expired food all over the store, and I am not talking about just a day or two, I saw today expired food dated back to the 20th of November, 98% of the yogurt was way over the top, some open, and every one of them expired as far back as November 30th, grabbed a box of 7up it expired last year, and their bacon, WAS green, WTH 3 weeks over due, their cereal most of which expired 2 weeks ago. Their grapes and other fruit were spoiled to the point of stinking, that rotting smell. The cashiers are RUDE, after their credit card machine would not accept my debit card due to the machine being broken, so this guy asks for my card, no-problem, but as he hands it back,he calls me BY MY FULL FIRST AND LAST NAME, wth! I also had to bag my own groceries, while 3 workers stood up front chatting like lil girls, and then instead of the female checker bagging, she shoved everything down towards me for me to bag up, while she started to scan the next person in line!!!? When my husband Thanked me loudly enough for everyone to hear, she actually thought he was Thanking her, LOL, LADY DO YOUR JOB! DO NOT GO THERE So far I have NOT SEEN one person in MERCED that deserves any RAISE, and if they are making $10.00, they need to knocked back down to $7.00 an hour.
