Rip old Pop's. Once a great discount store for purchasing discontinued, opened and expired products. The prices skyrocketed after the renovations, comparable to retail stores with a few dollars taken off the retail price for damaged or expired goods. Save the trip. I absolutely love pops. Have from day one. I moved out of states for 5 years and took a trip back to see family and made sure to swing by pops before I left to go home. It's a poor man's Costco. And I'm poor like that. It's bulk items sometimes. Candy is always cheaper than in store prices. Love the fridge and freezer section. Good small meals when in a pinch. Yes it's not organized so well but who cares. You're there for the deals. Some items are expired. But for most people the day is an option on some items. Beggars can't be choosers. I wouldn't recommend since a lot of the food products are expired. I bought a $15 coffee thermos and it was Glass on the inside which I didn't know and it was all shattered and broken. They don't do refunds so I literally threw away $15 in the garbage. Also got some clear 12 oz cups,after opening, they were dusty, glued together and even had dry dead flies and bugs on them. I really like going to pops they have some really good deals, but you have to watch your receipt, since you can't see what they are charging you. I was over charged by almost $10, it doesn't seem like much but if they do this all day long it adds up to a lot. I tried calling but the number has been disconnected. TAKE PICTURES OF EVERY ITEM YOU WANT BEFORE THEY PRICE CHANGE YOU AT THE COUNTER. The fact that I was with my relative an elderly woman she had a Louis Vuitton purse. Doesn't mean you have to up the price on us. I just went today and there was a price on the inside of the shelf that said 3.99 so we got 4 of the same item and the lady (she was very young) did a price check and charged us 5.99 when I went to go back again to take a picture to show her it was incorrect pricing but she had already took the sign off and came up with her own price I understand pricing mistakes are made but give us that price than change it for the next customer and this isn't about money or pricing l just thought it was very rude and unprofessional of her to take the sign off then LIE about it when it was clearly there cameras don't lie and when I came back from checking she was on her personal phone. Popped in here one day and looked around. Interesting place, kind of like a low-end Costco. Warehouse setting and a variety of goods. Seems to have become more established over the years. There is a lack of lighting in some spots. Might be a good place to grab bulk items on sale for food drives, large community events, etc. read more

If i could give 0 stars i would. Their candy is always gross. The chocolate is white. I spent $40 on two bags of candy. Inside the middle of one that I opened was individual gums smooshed in the middle. I am guessing so you cant see all the gum from the outside. Alot of trick or treaters returned telling me the candy was bad. I left so embarrassed over an hour early dumping half a bag. Most their foods are expired or no good. Store is very dirty. I notice a lot of prices going up since they remodeled. Do not buy freezer items...a lot of them a frozen and thawed and refrozen. Lots of freezer burn. The cashiers do not know prices. Make sure you review receipts. Do not trust them. Employee's that work t can not be knowledgeable of ALL prices. I was overcharged 10.00$ !! Be careful eating food out of the deli. Based on the expired dates on products....I'd be leary of getting sick. Again look at dates! A lot of prices are good....but some are way too high. First time going after hearing great things from brother in law. Had some decently price items even though 95% of the stuff was over 3 months past Expiration date. First walked in and asked to use the restroom, was told someone was in the restroom, went down a couple aisles and went back to ask, was told someone was in the restroom, finished the entire dry goods side of the store and asked to use the restroom, was told they gave the key to someone else, very rudely. Ended up walking out of the store middle of the trip to piss on the side of the building. And when we left they were closing their shop 2 hours early. Very poor first experience. read more

You can find some good deals here, but be sure to check the expiration dates on any and all food items you are considering purchasing. Almost all food, drinks and some medications are expired. Actually, this place is a dump when it comes down to it. It smells odd in here, the aisles are usually cluttered, disorganized and dusty. They don't accept debit, you have to use the ATM. I bought some Gatorade here once and it tasted like metal. So now, I refuse to buy food here anymore but I do go from time to time to check out cookware, some hair styling products and cleaning products. I can save a lot of money on laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels and other items my home uses a lot of...almost half price compared to major grocery stores. Yes, I do admit to shopping here and for about 5 years or more too........ This is just what its name says it is: Pops Bargain Outlet.. The key terms being "Bargain & Outlet".... They buy the majority if not all of the stuff that they sell from grocery 'close outs' from the major chains IE: The crap that the big chains either can't or don't 'move' get bought up by places like this and that includes the products that sustain damage in the big chain stores...... I compare it to buying out someone elses abandoned paid to rent storage unit; its like a box of chocolates you never know what your going to get... So if your coming here and expecting a Safeway or Raley's experience I'd drive on by or save yourself the trip and gas as you will be disappointed. TIP: It's hit or miss. Meaning sometimes they are loaded with the finds like I have listed below and sometimes not. It's a chance you take. I have saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars over the years shopping here when I lived closer to the area but the key is to check expiration dates and if you question a product just ask the staff about it. EXAMPLES of my dumpster diving 007 skill set haulings: YES to Carrots, Yes to Tomatoes and Yes to Cucumbers brand lotions & body scrubs of all kinds. This shit sells for WAY more than it should in the stores which is why I don't buy it there... The Yes to Carrots Super Rich Body Butter which retails for around $14 or more on any other drugstore or chain stores shelves, I picked up for $2 each here and you can bet your sweet ass that I grabbed over 20 of them as I use body & facial moisturizer damn near as much as I go through the beloved ice that I alone keep 7-11's in business with because I buy so much. Same goes with the same brands facial moisturizer in the Tomato Daily Balancing formula and Cucumber Soothing Eye Gel and Daily Calming varieties, retails for oh and I'm going to low ball this too so I'm going to say $12 bucks EACH for a 1.7oz lil pump bottle and guess what? I scooped up a couple of dozen each of them too and all for $2 bucks each. And their expiration dates weren't an issue and had more than a year on them and I've blown through them being fortunate enough not to as of yet find a bad one in the bunch as I still have stock at home and use the hell out of it. Dreamfields low carb pasta that retails for around $3 bucks a box I have hauled away more boxes for $1 each than I can shake a stick at and so far again, all have been just as delicious and fresh as the ones in the 'normal' stores. These are just a few of the shards of the gynormous savings I've hauled home over the years with this lil bargain outlet but hey that's just me...... And besides if it's in the ghetto, beneath you, located way the hell out away from anything else which it is and your going to bitch about it what in the hell are you doing slummin anyway? The key if your going to shop here is to know what your walking into, slow down, look at the crap your thinking about buying to make sure its what you want. Period. We always come to Pop's when we're in Turlock. It's a bit on the dirty and disheveled side but it's worth a cruise around for deals. I'd say, however, that at least of third of what you buy might not be any good. If you're getting food, you have to check expiration dates. Then you can decide for yourself if you think it's applicable. Even taking those precautions, you can still get bad stuff like the rancid dried seaweed or the vitamin powder that had turned to a hard cake, that we got. Still, we've scored some great stuff here at a super low price. The gourmet foods tends to be the best bet in the edible department. There are deals to be had in pharmacy too, but the rest of it is cheap stuff like a 99cent store. Is it really worth more? You have to be a savvy shopper to know! The upside is they have a restroom so you don't have to worry that it will take you some time to sort through everything. The checkout is always super fast but they only have plastic bags so if you don't like stuff sliding and spilling out in your car, you can bring your own paper or Trader Joe's type bags like I do. All in all, a fun adventure. You should try Pop's at least once. read more

This place lost a loyal customer for two reasons. One: their prices have gone up and are no longer the huge deals they used to be. I'm assuming they have to because they remodeled and need to make more money to cover it. Two: I came from out of town last week and arrived well before 8pm and they were closed. I went to the exit door and the guy said he can't allow customers in and it wouldn't be fair to let me in after sending other customers away earlier. I said what's not fair is to have a closing time and not stick to it. We both looked at our clocks and it was well before 8 but they were very set on closing early so I just left and will not be returning. read more

Prices are great on something's and on something's overpriced because you can get it at a grocery store on sale for the same price if not cheeper not being expired or in a damaged box. Son and I try to hit this place at least twice a month for lunch-type snacks and to just look at inventory. Recently the store has added lots of industrial racks, so it has more of a Costco-like feel. If you know your prices, this place can be a huge money saver. Be sure to read expiration dates on perishables, because sometimes they do have expired items. Can't beat their prices on cleaning supplies, candy, spices, Gatorade, chips, pasta, and bbq sauces. I went to pop's in turlock on Sunday and I had to put back 5 items because they didn't scan and NO ONE knows the right prices in this whole store. IT SHOULD BE A STORE POLICY THAT ALL EMPLOYEES DO A WALK AROUND TO KNOW THE PRICES OF THE ITEMS SOLD. if the cashier has to ask other cashiers/baggers the price and it still was not the price on the shelf of the item then management is failing at there job. Also no-one offers to do a price check to verify that the price I stated wad correct on any of the items. I shopped here all the time until recently. I enjoyed the customer service is got from the cashiers and now there is a young man "working" there who they tell me is their boss... this guy is rude and looks like he stepped out of an after school special about why kids shouldn't do drugs and join gangs. I'm talking gold chain and no uniform. I was in the store for 30 mins and I heard him making insulting remarks about the young women that work there to another employee and then I stood at the register while he played on his phone and to add insult to injury when he was ringing me up he didn't know any of the prices... how is this guy a boss? 4 things I will never again do at Pops: 1. Run in thinking I can find something cheap and quick in their freezer case for a few meals. Bought a 10 pack of Gorton whole fish filets, was 4.99, and a Red Barron pepperoni pizza was 2.99. So I saved approximately 60 cents and I dont know what happened to the food that it was bought by Pops in the first place. Why would I go in there when i can go in grocery store, knowing ahead of time what i will find, getting exactly what I want, and.. have access to produce etc? I wouldnt! 2. Buy anything that does not have price clearly marked on item or shelf. (see above). 3. Consider Pops my go-to for coffee. I drink a lot and used to check twice a month for deals. They raised by one dollar (3.99). Since I never know if they will have anything I want (that has a decent expiration date), and since I can get Cafe Bustelo at 99cent store for 2.99 - or wait for my favorite brands to go on sale at grocery store for 5.00); why would I make special trip to Pops, not knowing what they will have, having to scrounge through shelves and expiration dates, etc.? I wouldnt! 4. Check out before knowing what my exact total will be. Approximations are not enough. Last week I was looking at receipt while leaving, thinking something wasnt right. There was a $5 charge mysterious charge. Doorman said I would have to get back in line to resolve! So I waited. Cashier would not let me match my items up with receipt. About 15 items. Instead she wanted to ring up herself in her own convoluted, yet different way from last cashier. She managed to whittle off 2.50. She said I could go get something for 2.50. Sorry, it doesnt work like that. She said it would take too long to credit my card. After debating with her to just give me a written credit, while line forming behind me, I didnt bother dealing with the fact that her own recalculated ticket still didnt match what I bought. I am certain their register system has a "items bought" feature that used to be printed on receipts. Why they have it turned off is anyone's guess. BTW, when you hear one cashier ask another the price of an item.... it is meaningless. The price still might not be right (and it still doesnt mean that is what they actually ring up). Remember your prices before checking out so you can answer cashier's question to your own satisfaction. And dont agree to pay unless the total is right. Otherwise they will waste your time to resolve and it will be towards their favor. i.e., "go buy some more stuff from us even though it wasnt what you had planned for your grocery dollars" read more

Love this place for everything, just gotta check expiration dates. I don't mind eating some stuff expired. They had brand new in box infant car seats for $69. I looked to see when they were manufactured and they were made in 2013 so they are good for 6 years. They also had some bed frames, they always have new stuff in. Brand new costumes for $9.99 which I thought was a lot for Pops. Found some sparkling water drinks that I love for super cheap, found cat food for a $1! You just never know what you will find there. I call it a treasure hunt where you go in looking for one thing and you end up with more and spending less than you think. It's great! It keeps me coming back! read more

Pop's is simply a dirty warehouse with ridiculously low prices. Pop's selection dry goods like cold cereal, candy & sweets, coffee and even soft drinks is great. They also has a nice section of laundry soap and spray-type stuff. As mentioned before, the store is dirty - enough to scare some people away. At least 3/4 of their merchandise is expired. Be prepared to scrounge through dirty shelves of taped-closed boxes to find a product without an expired date. read more
