Wondered in here after having dinner at Betty's Kabobs. Wow! What a great surprise. I found foods I had not seen in years. The selection was amazing and the prices were reasonable. I love Turkish delight, but Amazon has been the only place I have found the flavors I enjoy. I don't buy it often because of the price. I found exactly what I wanted in Babylon Market for a much better value. I also found a good selection of dates, something I use for cooking quite a bit. The store is well stocked and nicely organized. There is only one checkout counter, and the store was busy when I was there, but everyone was friendly, even the other customers. The lady in front of me had a full cart, but when she saw I only had a few items, she waved me ahead of her. So nice and very appreciative. Yesterday I had another amazing trip to the Babylon market. The owner is at the counter consistently with helpful Customer Service. Stepping inside is like taking a trip overseas. Each item is carefully curated to maximize quality at a fair price. For relatively small space the selection is amazing. I enjoy going in there to buy high-quality luxury goods like Bulgarian feta cheese, specialty jams, and jellies, especially apricot cherry and pomegranate. The fresh walnuts are whole halves sold in bulk and are very fresh. There are European candies sold loose or in packages.; fresh pitas, hummus, olives, spices and carious staples. I really love the high-quality tea that he sells that I have not found for sale elsewhere, especially from Galil, the Anise caught my eye last time, smooth licorice flavor. I was surprised that it has a single ingredient; Anise seed. No flavors. No preservatives. Yesterday I also bought the pomegranate tea, which is a lovely blend of various red Hibiscus leaves and tart fruits like rose hips. This is a hidden secret, I am sure popular with Assyrian people, but possible not visible to the general population (this includes me). Staff is super helpfull, respectfull. Bread brought in daily from Turlock, heaven.... Wide variety of ethnic specific foods. Would recommend stopping in for any reason, but here are my go to's: - Fresh Olives from the deli - Fresh cheese from the deli - Frozen gyro meat, so good to make in a pinch, fresh is stellar levels better, however the frozen version in stock it spot on, and a go to for a quick weeknight meal. - Honey seasame candies (you can't leave the store without these) I am obsessed about the cheese that I will go into detail here. I am a huge cheese fan. - The blue cheese is spot on, perfect balance of fresh and funky, if you are into that. - The Feta cheese is fresh made, in baths of water, would recommend try all three variations, consistently good and beyond what you are used to in the local supermarket. - The Kasseri cheese is something unfamilliar to an average American, I would strongly recommend you tyr this just to try this. This market is my go-to for my family's middle eastern items that I can't find easily elsewhere. And honestly I'd rather shop at a locally owned business anyways. It's always quiet and clean. The family that works there has always been super respectful and honest. One thing to note the fresh lahmajun does sell out quick, so go to the store early in the morning if you need it. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Welllllll a lot of stuff is expired most of the time like sweets or sunflower seeds things like that, and it's way way over priced and his excuses are always, these items are shipped from overseas. Everything is shipped from overseas for him well, the same items are shipped from overseas in other cities, and they're not as expensive as this place. read more

If you even like liver just a tiny bit, I would urge you to try their mother goose liver paste. ( I hope I'm saying the right name) it literally disappears in your mouth. Wonderful ! We have been coming here over the last couple of years to get charcoal for incense, kafir, and other Assyrian items. Owners are very friendly and every once in a while they will give you free pita bread. They have a large assortment of Mediterranean, Lebanese, middle eastern and just cool food from that part of the world. read more

I like this place! They have a good selection of middle eastern goods that you can't get too many other Places. The people who work here are really nice and helpful. Always offer to help take things to the car. Awesome service. It's a small place but has a good selection and new things always coming in. Always find parking. Sometimes packed sometimes no ones there. I go about three times a month to stock up. The only downfall is I feel like their pita bread is inconsistent, some fresh some not so fresh. Maybe Mixed? Babylon Market is one of the very rare clean & well stocked ethnic mini-supermarkets in the Central Valley. They specialize in Middle Eastern & Eastern European/Russian (Assyrian, Greek, Czech, Polish, Russian) foods and it appears to be very popular with local Assyrian immigrants. Their Eastern European type of foods include my favorites, which are fresh smoked homestyle Kelbasa, Poppyseed or Walnut pastery, and frozen Pierogi. They have a deli counter that usually has three different types of blocks of fresh loose inexpensive delicious Feta cheeses & two types of Olives. The Deli counter also has a limited selection of cold cuts and other sliced cheeses, as well as, some sausages, liverwurst, and other unusual items. They have great deals on big containers of very tasty Yogurt, Kefir, & Yogurt Soda (of all things). They have quite a range of fresh Pita & other breads. There are numerous fresh boxes of various pasteries that range from great Baklava to Walnut rolls. There is a great tea & spice section, as well as, an extensive selection of various cans and packaged foods from various countries. It is fun to explore the aisles for a new tasty culinary discoveries. The Assyrian shopkeeper is friendly, humble, & helpful. They are tucked away in a little strip mall on the corner of Sylvan & Coffee Rd., diagonally across the street from the Walgreens (Southeast?). They stay open to about 7-8pm and much of their fresh stuff is baked in nearby parts of California. I can never seem to get enough of neither their Kelbasa nor Poppyseed/ Walnut cake...it is a fatting, but happy addiction for sure! read more

I wouldnt come here unless i had to, if anyone knows any other middle eastern grocery in modesto please let me know, ya they have alot of products but i feel they take advantage of customers and over price way to much. Also for someone who knows middle eastern products really well their products aren't fresh at all like the baklava and cookies and stuff, also did i mention wayy over priced. In the middle east those small bags of chips are priced equivalent to 25 cents, they have them at $1.50.. like why? thats just a small example everything else same thing. read more

I came here just last week; there's a decent selection of exotic ingredients such as pomegranate molasses, tamarind paste, various pickles and things in Russian that I had never heard before. There's bulk nuts and some grains for sale. There's plenty of legitimate arab ingredients, the dairy products are also authentic (like salty yogurt drink). The only downside is the very limited fresh produce section; I think I saw some mint, some cilantro, some onions and that might have been it. I love this store. If you are looking for exotic foods, from relishes, olives, grape leaves, jams, honey, breads, teas, cheese, crackers from around the world, this is the place. There are electric samovars, pots and pans and lovely tea sets. It is THE place to find very reasonably priced spices. It is clean and tidy and the items are well marked.
