I highly recommend this store for anyone trying to get the most bang for their buck. The prices are consistently competitive, so much so that I consistently go out my way to shop here every month. A few reasons why I'd recommend shopping here is because the selection is excellent--I frequently discover new items that I end up enjoying. The store is well-maintained and exceptionally clean, and the staff is consistently helpful and courteous. One of the most convenient features is that the store is open 24 hours. Visiting late at night (around 11 PM to 2 AM) is particularly ideal, as the store is being restocked, it is less crowded, and there are minimal wait times at checkout. If you're someone like me with a not-so-convenient work schedule this place is a life saver! Although the layout can be somewhat confusing, the prices are generally lower than those at other grocery stores in the surrounding cities. Winco on Plaza Parkway, Modesto is the grocery store where I have been doing most of my shopping for years, but something has happened within the last few months that has downgraded what used to be a good shopping experience. The deli counter no longer slices any deli meats to order. Everything now is prepackaged and in predetermined amounts. Some items are not available at all. The checkout lines can be extremely long so, I often used the self checkout, but now the staff has been instructed to count your items and if you have more than 15 items then you are banished to stand in the regular checkout line where there are not enough cashiers. These lines can have 6 or 7 full grocery carts in front of you and where as I only have 16 items. Also, you are not allowed to buy a turkey or ham at self checkout or you will be told to go stand in a line. This is a new change and makes it very inconvenient for the customer. Today, they blocked the store entrance with shopping carts placed sideways with a traffic cone In front. I asked an employee where I could get a cart and was told to remove one from entrance and to move the cone. These carts were in sideways Inbetween the automatic doors and not easy to take apart and not only that, but aren't I the customer? The employee seemed to think I worked there and made no attempt to help me. I then asked if I could come in through the entrance and she told me " No, that's why I blocked the entrance." WinCo has the best deals! Out of all the local grocery stores in the area, WinCo without a doubt has the best prices. The have an extremely wide food variety with dedicated aisles for Asian and Hispanic flavors. Any obscure or non-big-name-brand that you may not find anywhere else can be found here. There is a large seafood counter and deli (which have both been recently updated). They sell a huge variety of bulk items too! They have everything from nuts to candy to dog food, herbs, pasta, bird seed, and more. There is a bakery that offers some nice fresh items like pastries, rolls, cakes, and bagels. They also do custom cake orders! There's also a hot food section where they sell freshly made fried chicken, flavored wings, tenders, and sides for a super affordable price! WinCo offers a ton of ready to eat meals. Just pop them in the microwave for a quick and large bite. The staff members are very friendly. They build a lovely relationship with the regulars which is great to see. They never show any sense of attitude, even when it gets very busy (which is often). Sometimes the lines can get super long (particularly towards the beginning of the month and in the afternoons). Most of the time, they have plenty of check-out lanes open so the wait isn't too bad. Everything is relatively well-organized. The store is huge but it doesn't feel like a maze trying to find the items you need. The aisles are wide but get congested at times. Winco deli personal is wack! They have an Asian guy that is very nice and approachable but the old white lady is a hag. I asked for 3 pounds of freshly made chicken wings for my kids event and the old white lady had an attitude about it. Yelling in annoyed tone " she wants it made fresh!" With an openly annoyed attitude. After this last visit I am going to just start going else where to get freshly made chicken wings. This Winco of Modesto has been here forever, but not sure why it was not my place to shop many dinosaur years back when it first opened up. I've come to check it out a few times in the past, but was never my cup of tea! Found myself instead regularly shopping at Foodmaxx or Food4Less. Out of curiosity this week, decided to drop by (decades later) to check it out once more. This time my feelings about this place has changed - love the price of their produce and most everything in there. Most of their prices are pretty reasonable and fair compared to Foodmaxx or Food4Less. The location is kind of hidden in the midst of other businesses and parking lot a bit outdated and small, but inside the store is breath-taking as it is quite a large, open, and spacious warehouse well-maintained and organized! If I could I would give this location ZERO 0, STARS! On Jan 16th,2026, I went to Winco Foods Modesto Plaza Parkway to do a return and I had my receipt. The customer service representative told me I could not return it that it was a perishable. I told her I had an allergic reaction. She was in a hurry to go on a break. Some other lady came to take over the problem, what I was returning was Sargento's and a generic Winco food brand which it says specifically money back, guaranteed in back of their product, which you can return to the store! Which of what I was doing the items were not open. I had my receipt and the only reason why I was returning is because I had a allergic reaction. If not, I will never return these items in the first place! The Manager or whoever the heck she was at Customer Service red hair lady said you could not return these items due to them being perishable and that they are not returnable, and they would only do a "one time courtesy refund/return and I told them "you will return my money back, I have my receipt and I will be reporting you since you refuse to do my return. I don't usually leave reviews, but I had such a negative experience that I feel like I need to speak up. The cashier named Brenda (older white woman with blonde hair) was incredibly rude and disrespectful for no reason at all. From the moment we got to her register, she gave me and my sister a serious attitude. I remained polite the entire time, but her tone and facial expressions made it clear she did not want to deal with us. When I handed her a few more items to scan, she became noticeably snappy and acted like we were a huge inconvenience, even though there was only one person in line behind us. There was no rush, no pressure -- just her being nasty and impatient for absolutely no reason. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but this wasn't just someone having a bad day -- this was consistent rudeness throughout the entire interaction. It was honestly dreadful to be near her. Customer service like that makes people not want to come back. Management really needs to be aware of how customers are being treated at checkout. read more

Becareful buying groceries here. I hear alot that their foods have been expired or damaged. Yesterday my wife and I bought Boboli pizza crust for dinner for my kids. After we applied the pizza sauce on the crust we added the cheese. When we started sprinkling the cheese, I noticed the cheese was orange, white, and green . The cheese was rotten. When we checked the date it said it didn't expire until Oct 2025. We exchanged everything no problem. Just becareful, my kids especially my young toddlers could of gotten really sick. read more

Winco has one of the best prices overall in Modesto I am a bargain shopper. I go from store to store for the loss leaders. Wincos produce is priced much more reasonably and is a better quality than many local stores . I find a selection to be very good overall on the groceries the store is clean and has no odor the employees it's hit and miss not gonna lie. Some of them are awesome and some of them are borderline rude but that's the same as my local store here in town. I got especially good service from Yvette in self checkout she was helpful, friendly and kind. I appreciate her service so much. Love winco. Went there just to get cans for my sons can food drive. Had maybe 23 items in my cart, the self check out said "about 15 items" and there was no line, so i went there. There were 3 open check stands so i was walking to one. I was stopped by an employee while they counted all my items and told me I couldn't check out there because the computers stopped at 15 items. (not true because i've checked out there before with a few over 15. Then i waited 45 minutes in another line. The checker told my son to ask me if he could have a candy (I had already told my son no, so now i had to say no a second time). When I went to talk to a "supervisor", she told me self checkout cuts off by weight. So which is it? At 15 items or by weight because your staff doesn't know. Then when i told her about the checker offering my son candy, she didn't see why it was an issue but what if I didn't have enough money for it? What if my son is allergic, or is diabetic? They shouldn't offer things when they don't know my situation. The supervisor was insensitive and didn't even want to hear about my issues. Love. Love. LOVE WinCo! This has recently become my home away from home. I use to come here all the time during my college years but got away from in favor of a more safe grocery store / area. A few months ago I found myself in quite a pickle at 3 AM and WinCo was the only place open, I had not been here since 2019/2020 until then but BOY these prices sure made me feel like I had hopped in a time machine back to 2020 with the bargains on everything. They even have some cute little kittens on the outskirts of the parking lot you can hangout with. Now, I won't go anywhere else! Their produce section is phenomenal, so much so that I expected their meat section to be equally the same offering bulk packaging and prices, but sadly the meat section is not. Every time I've been there, they are constantly restocking, and the store is clean and bright. I did expect them to have seasonal holiday items yet only found seasonal, not any holiday items - which is surprising given how massive the store is. The customer service sucks here at night! There was literally 47 people in line split into 3 checkers on 5/10 after midnight. Someone screamed out "can we get some other checkers to help"? I was in line for 38 mns and not one single checker picked up the phone to ask for help. I saw one checker that was helping stock with the stock people and self check out was down! I asked that checker how come your stocking and not checking, there's way too many people in line and self check out is down. The checker said " they put me where they need me the most" So obviously the manager is more concerned with stocking time lines then with customer satisfaction. I'm sure all those customers were pretty upset by the look on their faces. Time to change the manager here at this store. Rusty isn't doing a good job. The ratings for the bad rotisserie chicken on top of all his other poor management skills require him to take some refresher courses in management and customer service. So easy to fix small issues before you start seeing the domino effect. Step up your game or start losing more customers to Walmart and Amazon! read more

I love Winco! They have some of the lowest prices in town. There are a few items that are cheaper at Costco, but anything that Costco doesn't carry or that I don't want to buy in huge quantities I get at Winco. The store is always clean and well stocked. They have a very large selection, lots of varieties and flavors of different items, lots of cuts of meat to choose from, a bakery with lots of goodies, and a large produce section. The produce is always fresh. Even though the store is really big, everything is organized in a sensible way and it's easy to find what you're looking for. I hate when stores put items in places that don't make sense to me, but I've never had that problem with Winco. It can get crowded sometimes but they always have lots of lanes open so the lines usually aren't too long. You have to put your groceries on the conveyor belt and bag your own groceries. They don't take credit cards, only debit and cash. After you check out there's a place to order pizza for very low prices. I tried the pizza once and personally didn't like it, it tasted kind of burnt, but maybe I had a bad slice. If you order a slice they give it to you on a paper plate, so it's not very easy to take it home to eat and there are no tables to eat it there. But other than not loving the pizza experience, I really enjoy shopping at Winco. read more

I first met Winco grocery in late 2020 and it has become my favorite new grocery store to shop at when in Modesto. So far, they have not once been out of shopping carts as you enter the store and this is appreciated. They have handicapped parking close to the store with ample parking spaces for all. Their sugar-free selection of foods and beverages is good. I discovered on the last trip here in late December 2020, a decent-sized offering of sugar-free candies and covered nuts. Nuts dipped in dark and light sugar-free chocolates. And my favorite, candy-coated almonds. Gummy bears as well as chocolate wafers like the kind you might use to make candy with or sugar-free fudge. The prices were very reasonable as well and every item was fresh. These can be found in the bulk-food area as you leave the produce section of the store. No need to order online for my sweet tooth. The chocolate and ingredients they used to create these yummy bites tastes like the real deal which is also sort of rare. They also sell Monkfruit and Swerve; both natural sources of sugar-free sweeteners. I love their produce department and routinely buy their fuji apples and black grapes if they have them. Super crunchy, fresh, and sweet! They also have a good selection of diet sodas including the vintage brand of Shasta. Shasta's diet root-beer and diet orange are delicious and super affordable. Winco also has its own brand of no-sugar-added hot cocoa. I've been buying Swiss Miss sugar-free for decades but lately, no one seems to carry it. This replacement by Winco has satisfied me; it's chocolaty and sweet and affordable located by the coffee for sale in the store. They also sell pizza by the slice and a few other cooked food items located up by the registers. Their selection of dog and cat food is also respectful as is the pricing. They have public restrooms that are super clean and open to the public. Location: Up by the check stands. I absolutely love Winco. First of all, they always have the Modesto Bee newspaper. Next, I practically live at the bulk bins. I'll admit, if you're looking for household stuff, it can get pricey. However, the food is dirt cheap. The fresh produce isn't the highest quality but just get it frozen. It's cheaper that way and it tastes fresher since it's frozen at it's peak ripeness. My parents love the deli. I love the vegetarian options (not many in the deli but plenty in the freezers). It tends to be hit or miss on the temperament of the cashiers. Some are really nice, others not so much but no one has ever been flat out rude. One last thing -- it may sound trivial but I do like how there is an available restroom that is clean.
