Garner Office: I have been taking my daughter here since she was born almost three years ago. Dr. Hedgepeth is amazing! I always make sure to ask for him because he has such a nice demeanor with both my daughter and me. He is knowledgeable, great at explaining things to me in a way I understand, wonderful with my daughter, and kind enough to offer me unsolicited words of encouragement about my parenting. (as a single mom with no other person contributing to the care of my daughter, that means a lot because I have nobody to make decisions with, bounce ideas off of, or to reassure me that my decisions are sound) The staff has also been very good at communicating with me and getting me scheduled in a reasonable time frame. Recently, when I needed a same day appointment, Dr. Hedgepeth was not available so we had to see Dr. Britt instead. It was the first time we didn't get scheduled with Dr. Hedgepeth. I was disappointed and worried that this other person wouldn't be as good. But Dr. Britt was also quite wonderful! If I ever leave NC, this will be one of the few medical offices that I will greatly miss. read more

I have always been a fan of this practice. They have been a part of our lives for over 17 years. That changed roday. Today I took my two daughters (15 and 17) for well visits. The seventeen year old needed some vaccinations which she got (so I am clearly not against all vaccines). When the 15 year old was offered the HPV vaccine, however, I declined it for now. Very clearly. I was asked if I had any questions about it and I explained I had done my own research on the pros and cons. The doctor then looked at my daughters and proceeded to explain why I should have them vaccinated for HPV. She told them there were NO RISKS associated with the vaccine. My research shows that statement is not even consistent with the manufacturer's info or CDC reports. I can understand if you think that the benefits outweigh the risks, or the risks are minimal, but I feel her statement was dishonest. The doctor then wanted to speak with each of my daughters alone, which I declined. At this point, I did not trust her alone with my children. Perhaps the professional thing to do would have been to ask to speak to me alone if her goal was to "educate" the decision maker. Of course, that did not happen. I have never been so undermined as a parent, nor have I ever had an adult professional attempt to rally my children against my decisions. It was a divisive tactic. The same fear-mongering approach the ads for this particular vaccine employ. If you truly want the right to consent to certain care without pressure being placed on your children to judge you and disagree with you as a parent, this is not the place for you. I may change my mind on this vaccine, it's not an easy decision, but I will not change my mind on how wrongly this was handled. read more

We love RPA! Started with Dr Hewitt and Bernstein in Raleigh. Both great! Then moved to Clayton and now see Dr. Parmele who my 17 & 19 yo daughters really like. There are several Providers at both locations so you are able to see different ones to see which ones you prefer. I have never had an issue with any of the doctors, staff or their billing department. Do not. My daughter saw Dr. Bernstein because she'd been out of school for nearly a week with a sore throat, cough, aches, light fever and some trouble breathing. To give some context, this is while the omicron COVID-19 variant is demolishing North Carolina, so obviously you'll want to get a COVID test while there, which we did. Other than Dr. Bernstein's callous, antiquated and somewhat sexist belittling treatment of my daughter, the visit went fine. She listed off her symptoms when Dr. Bernstein asked what was going on as usual when she said she was having a little more trouble than normal breathing his response was "Well, if you're talking you're breathing aren't you?" Maybe just a one-off experience, but it definitely warranted sharing. read more

I've been coming here since my youngest was born, which is 4 years now. I really love coming here. The staff, nurses and doctors are so friendly and polite, their appointment scheduling is so easy and on point, any Billings issues they will work with you, their check in process is quick and easy, and they offer a discount for self pay patients. You can tell they really love children and make it so comfortable for them. Unfortunately for us, my sons pediatrician retired last year and I hated to see her leave, but was happy for her to say the least. We met his new pediatrician today, and she was amazing! She didn't make us feel rushed during our visit, she answered all of our questions, she was very friendly and easy going with our son. The nurse that does his pre-screening (weight, height, hearing, etc) is always a joy to see. She is so upbeat and loving! We really love this practice and all the staff and physicians! read more

What a great first experience we had with Raleigh Pediatrics Associates. My daughter had her two year checkup today and we were scheduled with Dr. Hewett. He was kind, upbeat and genuine. With me being a first time mom I still have lots of questions. He was patient with answering all of my questions and concerns, without me feeling rushed out of there. We were in and out in about an hour and a half. I would say that's about average. There's a fish tank and plenty of seating in the waiting area. They had a separate little waiting area for newborns as well. I look forward to forming a relationship with them over the next several years. We've been going to Raleigh Pediatrics for the past 11 years and have seen the place steadily decline. Pros: Same day appointments Cons: Ridiculously long wait time. Extremely short appointment times. Rarely, do the doctors give you longer than 5 minutes. They usually have your child diagnosed before they walk in the door, and not necessarily correctly. I would like to see several of the doctors put on their "listening ears," talk less, and spend more time with their patients. For these reasons, I've decided to leave the practice. They've just become too busy to provide good, comprehensive service. read more

Both of my children have been coming here since birth (2001/2003) and I love this practice. They have 2 locations, one in North Raleigh and one in Garner. We have always been seen at the Garner office even though we moved to Raleigh 9 years ago. Dr. Hedgepeth is our favorite but all of the physicians (and staff) are great. They routinely have weekend hours for "sick" visits and they have a nurse advice line available 24/7. I have used both of these services numerous times especially when my boys were young. They offer a flu shot clinic and the wait time has always been minimal. The practice has been accommodating when possible when scheduling appointments. They also have an asthma nurse specialist on staff. I highly recommend this practice. read more

I don't have much experience with pediatricians since my only child is 2 months old, but I have to say that Raleigh Pediatrics meets all of the requirements I can possibly think of. The office is clean and well-decorated, and there is a separate waiting room section for "well" newborns up to three months, which set this new mom's nerves at ease. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The nurses are incredible - I have seen a different one every time we've visited, and I have been thrilled every time. The only doctor we've seen is Dr. Rusher, but I absolutely love him. He's down to earth, extremely kind and totally reassuring. I find myself hoping that he can be my child's doctor until she's too old for him. Things to know: 1. This office strongly believes in vaccinations, so if you don't want to vaccinate your child, find another practice. 2. Bring your insurance card with you every single time you go. 3. If I could leave 0 stars I would. Dr.Parmele was one of the worst doctors I have ever heard of. Justine Parmele diagnosed a loved one of mine with various mental health issues and instead of helping her find safe and comfortable routes to cope with her mental health, she tried forcing her to take medicine that she did not feel comfortable taking. My loved one was told by Dr.Parmele that therapy would not help, and she refused to write an emotional support animal letter to assist my loved one with her anxieties. Dr.Parmele then insisted that the medicine was the only option that she was willing to offer. She consistently did not take my loved one seriously when expressing her frustrations and made her feel like that her thoughts and opinions were invalid and would constantly blame it on my loved ones mental health issues. read more

Our son was born on 11/8 and we brought him home on 11/10. We called our Family Doctor (who we'd intended to use as our son's doctor) and asked to make an appointment. They told us they could see him on 12/13! The Hospital told us that he'd need to be seen in 72 hours. In the car on the way home I found Raleigh Pediatric Associates. In a panic - I called. A friendly lady answered the phone and quickly told me they were accepting new patients and that our son could be seen the following day! She scheduled our appointment with Dr. Hewett. The following day we headed into the office with a slew of paperwork, ready for a long wait. We're used to fussy front desk people and lots of delays. Not the case here! The friendly desk person smiled and cheerfully greeted us, took our papers, my husband's insurance card, told us what to expect, and had us seated in the newborn section. Here we waited for just about 5 minutes before we were taken back to our room. The room was spacious with a good amount of seating and places to put our ever expanding collection of baby paraphernalia. A nurse, who brought us back, entered information into her laptop, got him weighed, and told us the Dr. would be right in. The Dr. was in within 10 minutes and was fantastic! Dr. Hewett was upbeat, friendly, informative and encouraging. All of the things you need when you're just a little unsure of what you are doing! He spent a good deal of time answering all of our questions in good detail and not seeming to be bothered by things I am sure he hears all of the time. We were so happy with how we were treated, the information we were given, and the services provided! Highly recommend! read more

This dr's office is terrible. My daughter was ill with a cold and I wanted to split up her vaccines for that month so as not to overwhelm her tiny little newborn body with too many viruses. But the doctor fussed at me, saying "I told you what our policy is; you are putting everyone at risk!!" Then they kicked me out of the practice! They also were very rough with my 4 yr old when they gave her a flu shot. She was understandably terrified. Glad to be done with them. read more

I thought I found our new Pediatrician and boy was I wrong. We've had about 5 visits to this practice for my little and each time there was just something way off. The first time my daughter was diagnosed with bronchitis but sent home with no breathing treatment of any kind to help get her better. The last two appointments were with a very delightful asthma nurse while she herself was amazing the follow up appointment with Dr. Hunt were terrible. We do NOT do the flu shot and never have, I told her that the first time she asked about the vaccine. She proceeded to not just ask me once more but THREE more times at the end stating "you are the parent here. You make the decisions. Not your child" I didn't even know how to respond. The next asthma visit went well but the follow up with Dr. Hunt went even Worse. When she asked what was going on with my daughter (who's 8 and knows how to describe what her body feels) my daughter proceeded to answer and the doctor snapped back saying "I'm talking to your mother, not you." I couldn't believe the audacity this doctor had talking to my daughter that way in front of me. Upon check out my daughter very matter of factly stated "I do NOT want to see that doctor again, she hurt my feelings and didn't let me talk." I will NEVER be back to see this sorry excuse for a pediatrician again. read more

This place is all about making money and does not care to properly diagnose or treat children. A few years back, my wife and I were concerned about our son's speech and hearing as he was way behind. We asked several times about this through several of my son's checkups. The doctor blew it off everytime stating that "he will talk when he is ready." After about the third time hearing this, we took my son to an ENT specialist where they recommend that he immediately have tubes put in his ears or he could end up deaf, as his ears were beginning to close up so badly. Fast forward a few years later, and my son had frequent colds last year and would vomit due to coughing so hard. The doctor stated that he was fine and would likely grow out of this. Now this year, my son was sick for a week straight with vomiting and a slight fever. My wife was concerned that this could be the flu or RSV as both have been diagnosed to other children in our area. The doctor tested my son for neither of these and said it was just a cold and recommended benadryl or claritin. My son just woke up from sleeping and immediately vomited everywhere. It's time for him to be checked by an actual pediatrician and someone who actually cares that my son has held barely anything down in the last three weeks!!! read more

Our family found Raleigh Pediatrics 18 years ago, and both of our children have had wonderful experiences since. We have seen many of the doctors in both the Raleigh and Garner offices, but were impressed with Dr. Hedgepeth. His kindness, excellent bedside manner, experienced care and support has seen us through years of well visits, and numerous difficult decisions regarding serious illnesses. Without his knowledge and guidance, I know my son would've faced unnecessary surgeries, and not received the proper care he needed at area specialists. Though our insurance carriers have changed over the years, we refused to change doctors, and paid the out-of-pocket expenses because Dr. Hedgepeth was worth every penny. Since becoming a teenager, my daughter wanted a female physician and now sees Dr. Hunt. We are just as impressed with her compassion, expertise, and guidance. Dr. Hunt goes out of her way to coordinate care outside of her office, and ensures my daughters health and wellness are her top priority. She is amazing! Speaking as a mother who has been in and out of hospitals, doctors offices, counselors, and advanced care facilities, our family is very blessed to have Garner Pediatrics. My kids have been going to Garner Peds since my oldest was born in 1997. My son had a telemed appointment. We received a statement for $140.00. I work for a specialty physician myself scheduling patients for surgery so I spend long hours on the phone. When I am on lunch they are on lunch. I have tried numerous times to pay on their website but the link will not work. There is no email to reach anyone. When I get off they are closed. I came home today to a certified letter discharging my kids from the practice over $140.00. Really?!?!? After over 20 years of service? After never missing a single payment. I am shocked and saddened they have shown they are more worried over such a small amount of money over the well-being of my kids. Do not come here. Find a physician that cares more for your kids and less about a dollar. After this I will gladly find another doctor. I am appalled. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

We have been using these people for many years and it seems the longer we are with them the worse they get. They are rude from the jump start 75% of the time (everyone from the front desk people to the doctors). I am not sure who they think they are but this last time for us as it was the last straw. We will be going somewhere where they actually care about the kids who need them. Latest incident - Our son hurt his leg playing soccer and needed a note for the school PE class so he could recover. We called in the morning first thing to make the appointment and were told that they couldn't make the appointment until later in the afternoon. Seems afternoon appointments have to be made after 12:30pm. Thought this was pretty stupid really but we complied and called back later after 12:30pm and then were told that they opened the afternoon appointments up early and now they were all filled up. Probably could have handled all this if it weren't for the rudeness over everyone we dealt with from the appointment maker to the nurse who called us back to do a triage to see how bad he was and if they would let him come in or not. We've been going to this pediatric group since we moved to Raleigh in 2006. The office is bright and big enough to accommodate many patients. We've seen a few of their many doctors and Dr. Goodmon, Dr. Chip and Dr. Hewett are our favorites. I hear from another mommy friend that Dr. Parkerson is really good as well. They take the time to listen to your questions and explain their answers thoroughly. They also make sure that you are aware of developmental milestones for your child's age and safety measures that you should be taking in caring for your child. I really like that they go the extra mile to make sure your child stays safe and healthy. read more

We love this place! Dr. Bernstein is like a wizard. He can manage to give my toddler a shot without her even noticing. Seriously, Magic. He was also super helpful when we were trying to decide whether or not to do ear tubes with our daughter. We've been coming here for over a year, and have been really happy. Any time we've needed a sick visit, the office was able to squeeze us in within an hour or two. All of the doctors we've seen have been great as well. I highly recommend this office! read more

We have been going to this practice for over 13 years, and I love and trust them completely. You should know up front that they STRONGLY believe in the effectiveness and safety of vaccines and following the vaccine schedule, and if you don't agree with that, they state that you should find a doctor that will meet your care requirements rather than ask them to compromise what they believe is required for your child's safety. They post that information in the offices, have it on initial paperwork, and post it on their website. If you somehow miss all of those notifications, it's not their fault! If you then get upset about their vaccine policy in spite of all the warnings (as multiple reviewers have) they will exercise their right to make you understand that their practice is not the place for you. They are a busy practice, and they do not spend a long time waiting for you to figure out what you want to say. If you come prepared with a list of questions, make sure the nurse knows you have questions, and make sure the doctor knows you have questions, you can get good answers. If you come in thinking you might have a question, but never really articulate it, they won't necessarily spend a long time trying to draw you out. On the other hand, if I have had specific concerns, I've never had a problem with them trying to "move me along" until we had talked through my questions. I don't feel like I usually have to wait longer in their office than I do in most doctors' offices. I expect it to take 15-30 minutes from when I check in until I go back with the nurse to have the preliminary work done. Then I expect another 15-20 minutes until I see the doctor. That visit is usually about 15 minutes for a normal sick visit, and a bit longer for a checkup. If there is a need for ADHD evaluations or other more complicated topics, then they usually recommend a specific appointment for that topic rather than trying to fit it in during a sick visit of checkup. When you do that you can get more dedicated time and focus because the appointment is booked for that purpose. Whenever I have had a form that I needed filled out or a prescription refilled they handled it without a problem in a few days. I haven't tried their sick clinic in years, so I can't speak to that. I do know that if I have a child who ended up sick overnight, the best way to get them seen is to drive into the office about 7:50 AM (a few minutes after they open) and make an appointment for as soon as possible. The phone starts ringing with people trying to make an appointment around 7:45 and doesn't usually let up until around 9, and by that point many of the sick visits are gone. While not every doctor or nurse is awesome, overall almost everyone I have dealt with is warm, friendly, and loves kids. Our regular doctors are Dr. Hewett and Dr Parkerson - and we are thrilled with both of them. read more

We regularly see Dr.Hunt who is amazing!!! We love her. However, today we went into the weekend sick clinic. I have only been to this practice 2 times, so I didn't know how their sick clinic worked...I didn't have an appointment to have my daughter checked for strep. The front desk ladies seemed overwhelmed and flustered. Then, dr. Johnson at the end of our appointment lectured me about next time make sure to call before hand etc...which had I known I absolutely would have, but he did this all in front of my 6 year old sick child. As if it were setting him back to take my $$ and see my daughter. Dr.Johnson has terrible bedside manner. He also talked over me the entire visit. read more

I am so disappointed in this institution. I've been taking my son to Raleigh Pediatrics for over a year. Everything started out great with the wellness visits (minus one of the doctor's being seemingly short with me, but i come to expect this from busy doctors). It wasn't until there were actual health issues with my son that Raleigh Pediatrics true colors started to show. Their methods consist of throwing antibiotics at EVERY problem without question. There have been more than two occasions that they tried to tell me my son needed antibiotics because it "looks like an ear infection is about to start". I, being a concerned parent, asked why he would need antibiotics if he doesn't have an ear infection. Of course at that time the doctor finally said we can use the wait-it-out method and then disclosed that about 20% (probably more) of kids actualy don't ever develop the infection but the antibiotic is used just as a precaution!! Did i hear that correctly???? So you admit your institution prescribes antibiotics to at least 20% of children that aren't actually necessary??? I wen through this a few times over the course of 3 months. The straw that broke the camels back was when i went in because my son had discharge in his eyes. They again tried to prescribe antibiotics for a non-existant ear infection. Since i asked to wait, they simply gave me eye drops which is great. After a week of eye drops (a few drops may have not gotten into the eye because let's face it, can anyone be perfect at eye drops with a two year old???), my son was better. But, a few days later, the eye discharge came back. I figured, hey lets get some more eye drops. Raleigh pediatrics REFUSED to send in the prescription again. They would not send it in without seeing my son again. Even though his symptoms were better than a week before, they refused. This infuriates me because I am a full-time working mommy so it's very difficult for me to take time off of work for doctor appointment after doctor appointment. I am extremely dis-satisfied with the service that Raleigh Pediatrics has provided and will never recommend them. read more

Very discouraged and disappointed from my last visit for my son. I took my 11 month old son as I have been doing relentlessly since November for a cough that will not go away. While he was receiving a breathing treatment in the practice the nurse jokingly called him a term that as an African American person is beyond inappropriate, disrespectful, and culturally insensitive. I was in complete shock and our family completely furious. This among plenty of other reasons is why we have decided to change practices. I can't count the numerous times we were rushed through appointment, my son was misdiagnosed, or the doctors literally walked out of the room not telling us that the appointment was finished leaving us sitting there 20-30 after completely oblivious to what we were waiting for. I took my daughter for the first time to Raleigh Pediatrics for a checkup today. We waited for 30 minutes until we were at long last met with the nurse. We had an appointment with Doctor Parkerson which started out fine until she had an extremely unprofessional and juvenile hissy fit when we exercised our constitutional right to decline a vaccination. I have never been more insulted by a doctor. She was rude, sarcastic, and very condescending. This left a very bad taste in my mouth and I would not recommend her to anyone nor come back again. We took our kids there for 3 years and every time we needed any form filled out for school or a record transfer it was a giant fiasco and took way too long. It's so frustrating. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!!! DR. SARAH W ATKINS IS A BIG FAT LIAR AND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! She's incapable of doing her job. I'm a first time mother and had some slight concerns (like any first time parent) about my son having uncontrollable crying for the first few weeks of life. Me being a parent and having common sense knew something was bothering him. So I took him in to see her and asked if she had any idea of what was wrong with him because she is a so called children's doctor?? Her reply was "he's just a really fussy baby". So I didn't want to accept that he was just fussing for no reason and I did my research thanks to "GOOGLE". I found out the reason for his fussiness was because he had "Colic" (something you would think a doctor should have knowledge about). I purchased some gripe water to help him with pain and told her about it. She promised to check the ingredients of the particular gripe water I bought and get back to me in 24 hours if it was okay for him to take (which was on 9-5-17) Instead of her doing her job and getting back with me. She went behind my back and called some sort of child services program. As if I was unable to care for my child (very unprofessional) especially when I told her we had family that could help if needed. Anyways I had to call her back (9-14-17) damn near 2 weeks later to get the okay on the gripe water ingredients and instead of her personally getting on the phone to say it was okay (even though I already knew it was because I care about what my child and what he's putting into his body) she had some nurse get on the phone and tell me it was okay. VERY VERY VERY IMPERSONAL AND AN UNPROFESSIONAL DOCTOR AND THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!! I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMY!! THEY SUCK!! read more
