We ordered three medium Concrete Mixers, but unfortunately, we were a little disappointed. By the time the mixers were brought to our table, they were already starting to melt. We also noticed that none of the cups seemed to be filled all the way to the top. One of our mixers was made with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. While we could taste the chocolate pieces and knew there was some peanut butter mixed in, it didn't have the rich peanut butter flavor we expected. It seemed like it was missing some of the peanut butter, which made the flavor less enjoyable. We know ice cream prices have increased over the years, so we were grateful to use our rewards and coupons, which brought our total to $12 for all three mixers. That definitely made the visit more affordable. We're not sure if the ice cream recipe has changed or if this was just an off day, but the mixers didn't seem as thick or creamy as we remember. They also melted much faster than they have during previous visits, which was disappointing since this was meant to be a special family treat. Overall, we'll be back because we've enjoyed this location in the past, but we hope future visits are more consistent. We'd love to see the Concrete Mixers served a little thicker, filled to the top, and with the mix-ins blended more generously so every bite has the great flavor Culver's is known for.

We'll get to whether Oscar's passed that test in a moment. First, the drive-thru. The speaker was laughably quiet. I'm talking "listening for a mouse to take your order" quiet. Worse, every time I tried to clarify something, the employee would interrupt and attempt to finish my sentence--usually incorrectly. Once we finally made it through the ordering process, I pulled around to the window. We received our food, minus the drinks, and I already had a feeling something would be wrong. How could the order be accurate when I couldn't finish a sentence while placing it? Sure enough, we were missing the combo portion of one meal, our tacos were incorrect, and our drinks hadn't been given to us. Trying to explain the mistakes became another exercise in frustration because the cashier continued attempting to finish my sentences--and continued guessing incorrectly. Eventually, I became visibly frustrated. To her credit, she apologized, and we ultimately received the correct order. Unfortunately, the food didn't do much to redeem the experience. The crispy shredded beef tacos were decent, but nothing to write home about. The beans had good flavor. The rice was extremely bland and had an almost microwaved quality to it. The red salsa had adequate flavor, but lacked the bite I want from a good salsa. The horchata was decent enough, but I've had much better at plenty of other establishments. And then there was the elote. Atrocious. The mayo was watery, the entire thing lacked flavor, and my wife and I ultimately deemed it inedible and threw it away. So, how did Oscar's fare against my Mexican restaurant baseline? Tacos? Decent. Salsa? Adequate. Horchata? Fine. Nothing was bad enough to condemn the restaurant on those three alone, but nothing was good enough to make me eager to return, either. So after all of that, would I go back? Possibly. The service was frustrating enough to keep me away, and the food was forgettable enough not to bring me back. But because of our history with Rosie's, part of me feels like Oscar's deserves another shot before I completely write it off. We shall see.

They are still young, so I ordered ahead on the app. When we arrived, there was no hand sanitizer in the restaurant and nobody at the counter. The restrooms were closed for cleaning, but nobody was actively cleaning. When someone eventually appeared, one of our drinks wasn't ready. My husband explained this at the counter. The staff member demanded to see the order on my phone. I had my phone at the table, playing videos for our grandkids to keep them busy. My husband had to retrieve my phone and return to the counter. The staff member told him that 'The Manager wanted us to produce the receipt ' . As it turns out, the 'meal' selection on my order didn't work , and the drink was left off. Then, they proceeded to have my husband pay for a separate transaction for one drink. This is extremely short-sighted, and I have never experienced this at any other McDonald's I've ever been to. We have given this restaurant chain so much money through the years, as it's normally our favorite take- out restaurant. This just felt very punitive and was interrupting our efforts to try to keep our grandkids quiet. I'm not sure if the manager has ever tried to bring a 1 and 3-year-old into a restaurant, but It's not easy. Thankfully, the team at Carl's Jr. stepped in. They were able to verify my purchase at the other location and honored the order at their store. What could have been a really awful evening turned into a reminder that genuinely good people still exist. Not only was the food great, but the customer service, kindness, and willingness to help were exceptional. If for no other reason than the fact that the people working there are honest, compassionate, and truly care about their customers, this is a place worth supporting.
