I'm so impressed with how culturally competent this place is. Took my parents here and the Vietnamese speaking receptionist/vision assistant (i.e. took eye pressure) was helpful and kind to my parents. Dr. Salamanca was really patient and thorough in answering my questions. Oh yeah the pamphlets come in Vietnamese too! And you can do your vision test in numbers instead of letters. Other things to note: - The inside is actually more spacious and modern than it looks from the outside. - It's right by the light rail and bus lines - They're open most Saturdays Looking forward to visiting here again. read more

Going to make all my observations here so Yelpers can make up their own mind about this business. There's a fancy chandelier over the cash register when you walk in. Before the eye exam, the person checking me in took me over to the frames and started telling me about prices and options. A cheap plastic frame was $400. I asked what if I don't need a new frames since the doctor hadn't done the test yet, but the salesperson ignored my comment and told me to choose a frame anyways. They also lock up the frames so you need a salesperson to help you put on a pair of frames and try them out. Never had that in any optical store where you need to unlock the frame with a key to actually try them on (demonstrating their hight value of their merchandise) Definitely felt like being in a fancy used car sales lot with lots of sales people around. If you want value for money, go to Costo. If you want fancy lighting and a luxury experience this is the place to go to. I only got my exam there and got out of there as fast as I could before being sold any expensive frame and lenses. read more

And the service sucks when you wanna leave. They wouldn't let me leave. I told them to let me out. I was done I refused to rest the service. read more

Bad experience with doctor here! My Rx for contact lense was 2 week's replacement and he changed it to 1month replacement without tell me. While supplies from Costco still alots, I never checked after 1 year I need to buy new contact lens again. Now all I have to do is do a new eye exam????!!!! And My Rx still valid til end of this Dec 2020. To everyone, please following yr usual brand and routine, and re check the Rx before leaving. Wasting money here!!!! read more

This place is awesome. I've gone there for years. I moved out of the area recently, was having eye issues, and they transferred records quickly so my problems could be taken care of. It's this kind of thing, when people are fair and honest that means a lot to me. And generally, I can tell you from the years of being their patient that the office is top notch. Front office staff is overworked and stressed out. Tammy is aggressive and very matter of fact in her attitude. When trying to make appointments they stress that my state insurance is allowed but talk to me like I'm a charity case. The front desk is rushed and rude and when speaking to Tammy who is the office manager she yelled at me and talked over me while I was trying to talk. Took my son here for his first pair of glasses! (*tear) From start to finish, the staff we interacted with were friendly and extremely helpful. The lady who assisted in picking frames for my son was great! (wish I could remember her name) She was honest and we appreciated that! The selection they have for frames are pretty good. You can get luxury frames if you want or stick to something more budget friendly. Another plus to this clinic is the location! It's located within King Plaza which has pretty much everything you could need: restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy, dry cleaners, etc. You can get new glasses, do your laundry, pick a prescription and then buy some bubble tea all at the same place. Was my second visit and am totally satisfied with Dr Salamanca and his team, had my regular diabetic retinopathy evaluation, Dr Salamanca answered my queries, gave pamphlet and disposable antiglare eyewear!!! very professional and courteous and on time, staff even took the trouble of escorting me out and down as i was hard of walking and using trekking poles. I've worn glasses for 30+ years so I've been to tons of eye clinics on both coasts (I grew up in NY) and this is one of the best. The staff is friendly, accommodating and patient. The eye doc really takes his time with you and thorough with his exam. Unlike other places they do not make you feel like you got a money sign on your head. I tried on at least a dozen frames before deciding just to use my own pair which I bought a year ago at a different place. Instead of giving me a bazillion reasons on why it was a terrible idea and pushing me to buy their own frames they just said "sure". Bonus: They have hours on saturdays. read more

Rainier Valley used to be good. They have gotten rude over the years and also have started price gouging. My last time around their initial estimate was an over-charge for the glasses and I had to argue to show what my insurance covered. This time round - the first thing the receptionist said was that "I am late" when I came in within 2 minutes and I was then made to wait. The saving grace is the doctor himself is good. They also charge you a $25 personal framing fees which the insurance doesn't allow. Overall an establishment that has gotten greedy over the years! read more

Would not recommend. They prescribed glasses but it turns out I actually don't need them. I trusted the doctor and got the prescription and when the glasses came I could not see with them. I went back and they did another consultation and made the prescription as small as possible but I still see better without the glasses. They said the glasses were more to help my eyes relax and they refused to refund me. Don't go here, they are just trying to make money. read more

I went in today for an eye exam so I could order some new glasses using an online deal. I was slightly early and the really friendly front desk ladies were able to get me through the paperwork and I was seen promptly at the scheduled time by Dr. Dan. He was courteous, professional and meticulous. I felt very comfortable and appreciated as a customer. It was well worth the drive from West Seattle-the couple of shops I called in my neighborhood were booked a month out and Rainier Valley was able to schedule me SAME WEEK! When I mentioned ordering glasses online I was not made to feel guilty or pressured into purchasing them in the office. Dr. Dan checked and double checked my prescription and was particularly careful to examine me for eye problems that run in my family. Highly recommended, well worth the trip! The reason I gave only 2 stars is that I had booked 2 separate appointments for my wife & step daughter and when I first called to schedule the appointments the receptionist advised me that they had my step daughter's insurance but not my wife. What the receptionist didn't do prior to our visit was insurance verification didn't get verified. As the primary eye insurance (VSP) was not in network with their clinic. I have been a medical biller for over 18 years and have done every aspect of medical billing (besides collections, I like to try and help and be a advocate for patients. If we had known that the primary insurance was not in network, we would of found a clinic that was in network. I had to pay over $100 out of pocket for the appointment and hope after I mail out the claim, I will get reimbursed back my $. The eye doctor and the woman who was showing us glasses frames have excellent customer service and was very polite. If you are reading this, before you schedule a doctor's appointment make sure that your insurance is in network. Some people will tell you that you would need to contact your insurance to see if it is in network (sometimes you may have too) but usually there should be a insurance verification done prior to visit and inform patient that insurance is not in network, but do you still want to keep appointment. Also, since I am only the step father I didn't know she was on her father's insurance. I just thought she had Molina insurance. Again, nice clinic, but when patients go to a specialist, make sure it's in network! read more
