The rainforest cafe is a great dinning setting to be in. The ride was so fun! However when ordering, I received not so great service. I ordered the kids cheeseburger, the safari fries, and a kids Coke. I also ordered the volcano dessert. My kids meal was okay, I asked for pickles which I was told they didn't have ones to go on the burger, even though the regular burger claims to have pickles on it? Upon eating our food, I received no refills, my waiter didn't check in on me more than once. My friend went to the restroom, and they got rid of her plate. Despite her not being finished with her food. When I went to pay, my total was 11.35 I put 15 into the check booklet. When getting my change back, I only received three dollars.. which if you know math, isn't right. I don't really care about the 60 something cents, but you can't not give a customer their change. I brought it up to a worker and was told "we don't have coins" but when I talked to my friend who bought something from the gift shop she told me she received coins as change. We came back the next day because he loved the ride so much. I must say, it's an awesome ride, especially for the kiddos. You can compare it to a Disneyland ride (kind of a mix between Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones). And it's only $5.95! We spent $30 a person for the Rainforest Pyramid at Moody Gardens and didn't have as much fun as we did on this ride! As far as the food goes, expect Chili's quality but 50% more expensive. It's not bad, but it's definitely nothing to write home about. Our Chicken Chimi Cha Chas were cold and soggy. The Jungle Burger was okay, and so was the BBQ Chicken Wrap. We ate here 2x during our stay. The first time the food was excellent and the wait staff and cook were very accommodating to our dietary needs. BUT I figured it was a fluke seeing as how there were only 3 tables of guests, however, the second time was a Saturday night and we had an hour and half wait. I thought service was going to be ok but it was FANTASTIC and the food was just as good as the first time. Our first meal we ate when we came to Galveston was here. Saw it from the outside and knew that was our spot. Got in and only had to wait not even twenty minutes to be seated for dinner. Our server was kind and very knowledgeable about the menu. Appetizers were good. Food came out timely and correctly, and tasted very good. The food was just ok. I had a better steak at a local buffet close by a couple nights before, and the portions are small for the price you pay. However, my kid said he LOVED the Mac and cheese. You are really paying for the experience of it all. Our service was quick, and the atmosphere is fun. I couldn't help but think of how much dust was collected on all the fake plants though. Additionally I question their cleaning practices, as the salt shaker was clogged. Overall, it's worth it for a one time experience for the kids, but not worth the hype or money. Also, the "free photo" they offer is tiny and basically a proof to try to get you to buy the expensive ones. Unfortunately, the food is not worth the trip. I believe we are paying for the experience rather than the quality of food. We ordered the appetizer sampler and the food was lukewarm. Chicken strips were very bland. My Mac and cheese wasn't good at all. It literally had no cheesy flavor at all. My husband did not like his overly cooked rubber like fajitas. I can say the volcano brownie was delish but it's kinda hard to mess up premade brownie. I am also not sure if they have a designated team to pre bus tables but we had no room on our table for dessert even after telling our server he could take all the plates. He didn't. This place has a cool ambiance mimicking a rainforest with mechanical animals that move, vegetation throughout the walls/ceilings and an enormous fish tank by the entrance. That being said, it was pricey and I don't think the quality of the food justifies the price. I ordered the Pastalaya which came out to about $21. One thing that threw me off was that the pasta was hot but the shrimp and chicken were room temperature. The Garlic bread was seasoned properly but it was a little stale. Their Alcoholic drinks are decent you get to keep the souvenir cup. Overall it was a great experience, with decent food but overpriced. The Hawaiian salmon and shrimp is delicious as is everything else! We had ordered seafood at another restaurant paid similar prices and it was terrible! We have a 3 year old and 7 year old and they and we love everything about this place! Though the animatronics can be a little intimidating, our 3 year old had no problem after the first thunderstorm. We've come in off season and make reservations on open table so we don't have to deal with lots of waiting, but even still they have the ride and aquariums to kill time. I had the Cobb salad here. One of the originals from their menu. I was expecting much more than what I got. Not by quantity, but quality. I was starving after we waited an hour and a half after our reservation time(12:30) and when they brought out the salad, it tasted like it sat out for a day before serving! We went in during summer break with a groups of 12 to celebrate my sons birthday and we didn't have to wait long to be seated! Which is always a plus when traveling with kids. The food was good. Their prices are high and they are a chain and they are way too touristy. However what I do like is there amazing tropical decor and all the plant life that is in the front of their property. Rainforest has become a place to celebrate my grandkids birthdays, they like all locations, and we have had good service and well prepared food, this location was fun for the kids, the staff was awesome to my kids, they had a person doing shaped balloons , it was outstanding, our waiter was beyond our expectations, when it comes to the steaks is always a hit and miss, but my wife's food was perfect, the lazy river ride was fun for my grandkids, all the fish tanks actually have fish, the build a bear options were fun for the kids, wife loved the drinks, let's just say they made our mini vacation perfect. Aesthetics is the only reason why you would bring your family here, which isn't really all that exciting and has needed a major upgrade for years. It's pretty evident the owners stopped caring. You may want to Eat before you come, because the wait to be seated could be 1-3 hours, and then another hour before the food comes. My $18 nachos were laughable. (See pic below). What's not to love about eating in a rainforest and having it thunder every 30mins lol. No but seriously my kids loved it and thought it was the best thing ever. Our server was very good and made our experience that much better. It is over priced but you are paying for the atmosphere for sure. My food was good, I got the BBQ burger I would definitely get it again. My wife got the coconut shrimp and she said it was good. My father in law got the Fish and chips and the fish was bland and had no taste. We got the lava dessert which was fun and the brownie was good but not sure the ice cream was real but it was still good. We were brought some else's food by a separate server and then our server / food runner brought our meals. Menus were sticky, bench seats were to low made you feel like you were a little kid. First with the pros: 1. The overall atmosphere and ride were cool and reasonably priced for a young audience 2. The waitstaff were alright and seemingly pretty nice and food arrived relatively quick. 3. The portion sizes were rather large. But thats about as far as the pros go; * The menu is egregiously overpriced for under seasoned, low quality food. $22 for a caesar salad, $19 for queso with beef, etc. * The "queso" was quite literally melted nacho cheese for $14, actually revolting to eat with that price tag. * The fries were all right, the burgers however, were without a question of a doubt, frozen, pre-made beef patties. * Overall some of the worst food Ive had in a while. To sum, Rainforest Cafe was mediocre frozen cafeteria food sold at absurd profit margins and is only forgiven for this because its a "childhood experience." No one at my table even finished half of their food. If you're okay with spending an obscene amount of money for "the experience" go for it; if you want food that is not literal garbage, Id say go elsewhere. read more
