By way of introduction, let me start by saying that I'm in fairly decent shape but I'm no "spring chicken", and I am fairly active, regularly participating in 10K's and the occasional half marathon. I have my share of back issues. And in the never-ending quest to save a few bucks here and there, I've purchased many a Groupon for massage sessions, all with greatly varying degrees of worthiness (and professionalism). A close friend whose family is heavily involved in sports recommended Richard Hawes to me. He works out of this office a few days a week (also works at UBC and elsewhere, and is the RMT with the Whitecaps). Wow. I've never really had a "real" (i.e., non-spa, non-Groupon) massage before. What a difference. I can honestly say, it really makes a difference. I feel so much stronger after a session (I've had a few now), and I've even been told that my posture is better (I hadn't even thought about that). I get less headaches afterwards and I just feel.... better. It really has physiological benefits, when it's done right. And here, it is. The office is super quiet if you go in the early mornings for a session (as I do). It's clean, with 3 or 4 separate massage rooms. It's not like a spa per se, but there are plants and wood finishes and Richard plays relaxing music, so it's relaxing and definitely not a sterile, medicinal office setting. You can book sessions online and they email you a receipt immediately. And Richard is super personable, too (bonus!). If you're an athlete with muscle issues, or an athlete-wannabe like myself, or just someone who wants to address some medical issues that a top-notch massage therapist could assist with, this is your place. Basia is hands down the most respectful, knowledgeable, and caring RMT I've ever had! And I've changed RMTs couple times a year before finding her ... She checks in with me every session to make sure my last one delivered what my body needed, provides me with guidance on how to keep tensions away with stretches and exercises, and caters the massage to my needs on that day. Her work is never the same twice as she understands that our bodies are always changing. Her schedule is flexible and she has extended or shortened my sessions based on what I need during the session, which goes to say she always goes above and beyond what is expected of her. I have gotten several RMT massages from Tim now and every time has proven to be knowledgeable and effective. As someone who isn't a big fan of small talk during massages, Tim has a no-fuss attitude and gets straight to the point. I have a lot of neck, shoulder and back pain - he manages to find and focus on the sore spots to work his magic. He uses strong pressure which is what I prefer. The space is clean and professional. Don't come here expecting a spa-like ambiance with meditation music in the background. This place is effective without all the fluff. Note that they do not have a reception and they keep the front door locked until your appointment. I recommend arriving no earlier than 15 mins as sometimes there will not be someone to let you in until closer to your appointment time. read more

Raincoast is my 'go-to' place for massage therapy. The staff are amazing. I personally use Joey or Jess. Both have excellent pressure, take time to listen to your concerns and they are very reasonably priced compared to other massage therapists. The only downside is that their rooms can be a bit noisy. The wall where the door is doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling so once in a while you will hear laughing and chatter from other rooms or reception. read more

I actually I liked the massage I got and pretty reasonably priced for Yaletown clinic. 90 min for $100 bucks + GST and 60 min for $75 + GST. Now the bad points: first, the place needs a serious make over. It felt very institutionalized with white lights, white walls and chrome lights. Biggest downer: it is first place I ever been to (that is not a ma-and-pa convenient store), that charged extra for credit card payment. Although I only had to pay $1, it is the principle! read more

Been looking around for a good RMT for a while (3 yrs since I moved to Vancouver) and was not really able to find a good one after trying at least a dozen clinics in the Mt. Pleasant area, Gastown and Marpole neighbourhoods. Until... I came here today on a whim... and was impressed! The service was efficient, no BS, and Tim (owner and RMT) gave me a really good assessment on my shoulder/back situation. I hope to come back for continued treatment! read more

I have been going to Raincoast since I moved to Vancouver in 1999. After a car accident I met Tim at his practise in Yaletown. Over the last 12 years I have been fortunate to have appointments at the very last minute and when my back was so bad I couldn't move! Tim and the other RMTs are all very caring, professional and are excellent. I have been to many RMTs in Vancouver and since finding Raincoast I haven't gone anywhere else. Anytime I hear that someone needs a massage therapist I recommend Tim, Carina and Joey. The previous review on here is the complete opposite of my personal experience, keep in mind I've been a client of over ten years. If you want to go to a Spa and don't have any ailments then goto a spa, if you have anything that requires treatment then this is the place you'd want to go. They also accept MSP claims which when you are faced with an unexpected injury it's nice to know your able to see the qualified practitioners at Raincoast Therapeutic. read more

I used to go a great massage therapy centre in Mount Pleasant just a couple of blocks from my apartment, but once it got to the point where it took two weeks to even be able to book an appointment, I started looking elsewhere. Imagine my delight when I when called Raincoast on a Tuesday morning to hopefully try to get an appointment for sometime(anytime) that week, and the response I was received "how about this afternoon at 5:30?" They don't have a dedicated receptionist, but phone calls are always returned with an hour or two at most. I love the fact that the office is open until 9:00pm, and is very accessible for a Yaletown location. It was just by chance that I ended up seeing Joey Lattanzio that first time, but even before my appointment ended, I couldn't imagine going to anyone else. I've struggled to find RMTs that provide consistently excellent deep tissue massages, but Joey delivers everytime. I don't go that often, but he remembers me and my issues each and every time I walk into the clinic. He's super friendly, very professional, and always at ease, as are all of the other staff I have dealt with. As for the ambience, I find the array of plants and natural wood furniture throughout the office compliment and soften the all white walls, which I actually quite like. It has a modern, urban vibe, and even with some occassional office background noise, I always find my appointments incredibly relaxing. read more

I see my RMT regularly ( once every couple weeks). She had to move and I have been trying to find her replacement since November. I was about to give up ... then I met Tim! The previous 2 reviews surprise me, as this is a bonafide Registered Massage Therapy clinic... and is certainly not advertised as a "spa" experience. Granted, the location is in the midst of other fluffy pampering spots but like I said, you come here for a therapeutic massage---the bonus is that it's relaxing :) The owner, Tim, is very conscientious about finding out what aches & pains bring you in before he starts treatment. Jessica is also a great RMT with a background in fitness and nutrition. Don't let her small size fool you... She has incredible strength that pulverizes even the deepest knots in my shoulders. Her technique is just the right mixture of what you expect for a massage. The clinic if very clean , the prices are reasonable. Joey does an incredible job of helping with my ongoing mild back problems by ranging from light muscle work to deep tissue massage. He's extremely professional and the sessions fly by. I agree with the previous reviewer that the ambiance isn't the typical Spa experience: from what I've experienced, the therapists like to chat during the session, which is different but I really don't mind it at all. It's a bit of a refreshing change! :) They have special plant-friendly lighting that enables them to have lots of plants in the massage areas. Carina is a real sweetheart and can definitely take the kinks out of my shoulders and lower back! The owner, Tim, is pretty amazing. I'm not sure what other experience he has, but he has a gift for healing - my hips were somewhat crooked and he was able to straighten me out in just 2 sessions under an hour! I've never experienced that from a massage therapist before (only chiropractors in Canada and osteopaths in France). And the fact that there's no upsell to keep me coming back regularly (and spending the unnecessary $$$ which I really don't have) is a major plus!!! read more

I recently got a massage at Raincoast and saw Jessica Rose. I have had many massages at several different clinics and have finally found the R.M.T for me. She is small but surprisingly very strong! I left feeling so much better and my back feels great for the first time in a long time. I highly recommend going to see her. read more
