I live in Tucson, not at all close to this place, and I've sampled plenty of the Chinese restaurants between Tucson and Phoenix. In all my years of eating Chinese food around the Valley, and hunting for quick bites before the long drive home, there is no other comfort food that does it quite like Red House The crab rangoons. I have personally stomached two full orders in a single sitting and have still thought to bring more. These are not your average panda express rangoons. I would argue these sit alongside the best appetizers I've eaten. The house chow fun is absolutely delightful too. I struggle to find places that can get a single steak, a shrimp, and a chicken individually right so to have all three of them melded together just right in one single dish is just fantastic to me. The portions are generous too (you WILL have leftovers, and you WILL be happy about it tomorrow) and the owners and staff are the kindest. Whether you're settling into the cozy, no-fuss dining room or grabbing takeout (which, by the way, has consistently been ready on time, always right, and always hot) you can tell these are folks who take real pride in what they do. Pro tip: call ahead for takeout and it'll be waiting when you walk in. Free parking right out front, too. Do yourself a favor. Skip the chains, drive the extra miles, and thank me later. Red House has earned a customer for life.

Music playing at a reasonable level to allow conversation. We ordered the BBQ pineapple burger and Hatch Chili burger, both rehab size, 10 oz and a side of sweet potato tots. Cold and refreshing. The food followed about 10 minutes later. The burgers were juicy and delicious. I ordered mine medium rare and the chef nailed it! The sweet potato tots were fresh tasting, crunchy and a little sweet. We truly enjoyed our dining experience and look forward to returning. Highly recommended for a great burger!

The PB&J burger was disappointing. This is their flagship burger and I didn't think it was very good. You barely taste any PB or J, if at all, and it's just a plain burger with an oozing mess. Would love a stronger PB&J flavor on this one. The inside is fine, nothing out of the ordinary, but I must say our server was fantastic. I'd gladly come back and try other options since a lot of them sounded really good.

Let's start with the food: 5/5. I got the breakfast bowl and it was hands down the best breakfast…read morebowl I've ever had. It had duck bacon (was curious about this bc I'm not a fan of duck), turkey sausage, black beans, quinoa, egg, spinach and more. Somehow that entire medley was perfection when it comes to flavor. Usually bowls can be dry with no sauce, but it was not lacking at all. Staff and service: 5/5 we brought our dog Tom who's a pretty big golden doodle and sometimes can get overly excited when he gets brought outside. But their staff was nice enough to give us a dog bowl with water for him and served his egg on a little to go box plate. It's a little stressful with Tom at times and they made it so much easier. Inside/outside set-up: 5/5. They have a gorgeous inside dining with bar situation. Interior design was super cute for a date and I loved the hanging lamps. Outside had a dog friendly patio and they had cute canopy booths. Overall, we went here on a whim and it's my new favorite spot.

We were welcomed with a friendly smile. We explained that the other half of our party was on their way & the host promptly prepared our table... mostly. There were small plates set for each of us, but only one roll-up/napkin (for 4) & no drink menu. Minor details, but it kinda set the tone for the service experience. Now listen... the spot itself is cute. Once we actually got service, our waiter was cool. It just took forevvverrrrr & I ended up having to request cutlery after food was served. To be fair, it was busy, but there also seemed to be plenty of wait staff, so I'm not exactly sure where the disconnect was. Food-wise: the spinach artichoke dip was definitely the table favorite. My caprese panini was ok, it was sadly lacking pesto which feels a little criminal for a caprese situation. Our friends loved the fancy French toast & I was absolutely there for the prickly pear mimosas The entire brunch honestly felt like it was one dropped plate away from becoming a sitcom episode. One poor new waiter dropped a plate on the floor, then later knocked glasses off the rack above the bar & shattered a couple right next to guests sitting there. I genuinely felt bad for him because you could tell he was having a rough shift. That said, I really appreciated that they acknowledged the long wait & gave us a discount without us having to ask. That kind of accountability goes a long way. Overall, I'd still go back & give them another try because the atmosphere was fun, the vibe was there, and I can see the potential. Every restaurant has an off day -- especially during a busy brunch rush.

The bone marrow was interesting and flavorful, but I'm not sure it was worth $25. The oysters were good, although I wish there had been a few different sauce options beyond the basic preparation. The steak was probably a 3.2/5 for me--it was good, but at $62, I expected more, especially considering it was served with fries. Service was good overall, although the experience started off a little strangely. We had made a reservation and mentioned that it was our anniversary, that we were trying a new restaurant, and that we were hoping to make the evening special. Unfortunately, none of that was acknowledged. When we arrived, we were directed to the front, where the hostess seemed confused about our reservation before eventually taking us to our table. I wasn't expecting anything extravagant, but even a simple "Happy Anniversary" would have made a difference. The ambience was definitely one of the highlights--moody, intimate, and a nice setting for a date night. I was actually happy that we were seated along the back wall rather than in the main dining area. Overall, I'd give the experience about a 2.7/5. The food was decent and the atmosphere was nice, but for the price ($85 per person), I expected a little more from both the food and the overall experience. Especially for an anniversary dinner, it was disappointing to make a point of mentioning the occasion and have it go completely unacknowledged.

My last trip here though I had to ask about why the menu had stopped changing as often since we were one of two parties there in the middle of happy hour and there was a large framed picture of a bartender with a bunch of signed notes on the bottom of it beside me at the bar. It turns out that one of the oldest curators and bartenders of the bar and restaurant had passed from a drunk driving incident and I had not known at all! Gosh I was so disappointed in myself that I had ever complained about not having a new menu to try after that...but at the same time it was amazing to hear so many great anecdotes and to learn so much more about him and the history of the bar itself while dining this time. I had a lot of fun times at this bar - including remembering the first time I met that bartender and sharing that memory with the staff that told me their story. They also shared that they would be coming out with a new menu very soon and some of the new items and ideas that would be rolling out so I am also very excited to go back! We were greeted promptly by name by the hostess, who then took us to our table, where 2 gentlemen awaited to pull out and push in our chairs and then place napkins on our laps. The restaurant is decorated with native paintings and decor there is plenty of space between tables - you are within ear shot of the party next to you but it remains quiet enough for you to converse within your party without competing with others. The view from the restaurant at sunset was incredibly beautiful. They have an outdoor patio that you can go out on for a photo op, and the wait staff was out right behind us to see if they could take some photos for us. Every time you were seated at the table, they would push in your chair and place napkins on your laps. Laura, Austin & Taylor were who assisted us in our dining adventure and they were all so incredible and attentive. Our water glasses never got below half before Austin was over filling them again. Kai offers a tasting menu with 7 courses, 4 of which you make a choice. My meal included: The Birth - From the Elders, The Beginning - Elk Ragu, The Journey - Bison, The Afterlife - S-Thoa Mu:n, & the Honey Dessert. All of which were delicious. Kai runs $195/person or $350 w/ Wine Pairing, and the service alone was worth that. Dining at Kai was such a unique experience. It takes between 2-3 hours for the full experience. Each menu has its own hand-painted indigenous art piece on the front. The staff greets you in the native language and they include traditions of the native people throughout the evening. Upon our decent, our car was ready at valet waiting for us - with a gift and card from our server. Which was such a nice touch.

You kind of have to have higher standards. Let's start with the great. The service was perfect, I didn't have a single worry or want the entire time I was there. The staff were very friendly and made sure everything was taken care of. Saying they were attentive was an understatement. Now to the good. The food tasted good. There were certainly no issues with any of the courses, and I enjoyed them all. Same with the cocktails. I enjoyed the flavors of the ones we tried. Now to the not so good(the pretentious part). The decor and vibes of the restaurant were very distracting. You walk into the hotel lobby and are greeted with an amazing view, then you keep walking and get into Kai... and you're greeted with a bunch of knick-knacks all over the walls that try to distract you from what is obviously just a hotel conference room. To continue the theme of vibe, it was also just so quiet the whole time we were there with a very low volume white noise ambiance. If my date and I weren't whispering, the whole room would be able to hear our conversation. That might be the preference for some finer diners, but for us it was a bit awkward. Next, I want to call attention to the 22-25$ cocktails we got. They were good, but they weren't 25$ good. I frequent cocktail bars and even they aren't this overpriced. Finally, I want to talk about the food again. I want to emphasize that the food tasted good, and everything was cooked well. My issue is that none of the courses were amazing. Not a single one did I think, holy cow I need to tell someone about this. This isn't a critique I would usually make, but this was one of the highest priced fine dining restaurants I've been to, and I expected the quality to reflect that. I even got their signature dish, the bison, and it was cooked well, but the flavors were pretty standard. If you want to feel like a king being waited on and don't mind throwing down 500-600$ on pretty good food, this is your place. If you've been saving up all year to have the most incredible meal you've had in a while, I think there are some better choices out there in the area.
