I thought I had posted this almost a year ago. I was visiting Yelp and my partial review popped up. I was so happy with Rainbow Pool Plastering, I want to make sure to give them the recognition they deserve. I did my research and met with multiple highly respected contractors, receiving a number of quotes comparing the pebble tech/sheen technology and plaster options for resurfacing my pool. From my first meeting with Michael to the day they completed the work, the Rainbow Pool Plastering team was reliable, instilled confidence, and delivered a quality product and service. I was impressed by the well coordinated teamwork during each step of the process. This saved time and money. The plan was to only resurface and retile the pool, but it was necessary to replace the coping, as well. This was only evidenced once the demo work was complete. In addition to the unexpected cost, this could have delayed the project significantly. Michael and his team came up with a solution to make every effort to match the existing hardscape and prior coping to minimize the cost and amount of work that needed to be done, as well as scheduling the work in as quickly and efficiently as possible. The plaster in our pool was delaminating. I found Rainbow Pool Plastering on Yelp and asked them for a quote since they had overall good reviews. I also got a quote from another company with good reviews, and the prices were basically the same. We went with Rainbow because the owner himself, Mike, had come out to give us the quote and we had a good feeling about him and his crew. They told us 2-3 weeks to complete our job and it was done in just under 2 weeks. After the work was done and pool refilled, we noted a problem with the water level in the spa being too high and as soon as we pointed it out to them, they had a crew here the next day to lower the spillway so that the water level would be slightly lower, thus resolving the problem. Mike and crew talked to us about what we wanted throughout the process, offered suggestions, and ultimately listened to what we wanted and made it happen. Mike and crew recently renovated our pool (new Pebblefina resurfacing + tile). We were so impressed by his professionalism and efficiency. The demo was done in less than 3 hours and the area was left spotless, cleaner than it was before they started. The tile and plastering job was pretty much the same. Instead of bringing 1-2 guys, he brings a huge crew to get each phase of the job done. Mike is also customer service oriented and a problem solver. He makes sure you're 100% aware of the pros/cons of the finishes, shows you the materials before installation, has references for starts ups, and reminds you to register w/PebbleTec. We had a few hiccups with the color of the grout around the border of the pool and then later with the chemistry of the pool. In both instances, he was on the phone within 5 minutes, then on the job site same day with solutions and a fix. He really wants to make sure his customers are happy at the end. And the plaster started to blister off at 6 years. The pool lights didn't fit well at all either. You just don't realize all that can go wrong until you have it happen to you. After reading the reviews, we were impressed that they used all of their own employees, rather than laborers or sub contractors. The reviews were positive so we had them give us an estimate for renewing our 45year old pool. Their estimate was slightly lower than several others, but we liked Sam and Mike, who seemed straight forward and tried to advise what would be the best solutions to our issues. Mike Castaneda the president of Rainbow Pool Plastering, Inc., Sam and their fabulous crew are the best of the best. Our family pool had not been renovated for about 30 years and started leaking at the end of summer 2022. We drained the pool and realized that it was going to need some major repairs. We contacted Mike in June 2023 from a referral from my brother- in- law who used their company for re-plastering, and he came out to give us an estimate. He was so knowledgeable and listened to our concerns as we were on a tight budget. He discussed all options and costs. We agreed to stick to the basic classic white plaster and he checked our tile and confirmed they were still solid and in great shape and we could avoid replacing them, and just have them cleaned (Mike provided a great referral for this work). The skimmer basket needed replacing and the old pipes and plumbing needed to be upgraded. The cracks in the pool needed a higher level of repair with epoxy injections which he provided another great referral to do the work. He added a handrail at the shallow end steps and a ladder in the deep end for us. He was respectful of our needs and budget and never tried to upsell any services, and never skimped on the quality of work. Mike's team was well organized and performed each task quickly, efficiently and consistently went above and beyond to make sure every aspect of the project was perfect. After all repairs and plaster were complete and water re-filled, Mike gave us a referral for an excellent pool service for startup and monthly maintenance. A few days after the pool was filled, we realized that the pool light wasn't working (not part of the original project). I contacted Mike for advice, and within a few hours he was at our house to evaluate the issue. He disconnected power to the light and was busy taking it apart. We agreed that the light needed to be replaced however it was tightly embedded with concreate from the original installation years ago. Most contractors would have walked away from this type of project, or recommend to tear up the deck to get to it, but not Mike. He returned a few hours later with a new light and full scuba gear, got into the pool and chiseled out the old unit and replaced it with the new. We had quotes from 2 other companies which looked good, but make sure you really compare what's included and the additional cost of all the extras. Mike's quote was clear, stayed within budget and never came back with any additional costs or surprises. In fact, I had pretty made up my mind, after doing online research, before getting any estimates, that they would be #1 on my list. So I called two weeks ago late on a Friday afternoon...spoke to Sandra....who told me I would be called back Monday morning. Monday afternoon, I called back and spoke to Sandra again....who told me that I would be called back first thing Tuesday morning to set up an appointment.......still waiting for the call back over a week later....don't bother. I contacted 3 other companies, all who called me back in less than 24 hours. I hired this company to repair a really mysterious leak in my spa because some of the people in my homeowners association had used them and liked them. We ended up having them re-tile the spa and our pool, because the price was just too good to resist. I can't say enough good about their work. The salesperson gave us a better deal than the "legend in their own mind" contractors out here in Ventura County (You know the type? The owner shows up in his expensive SUV, but is never seen again, and...well--that's not how these people operate.) Anyway, the owner, Mike, was on the job immediately. He figured out why the spa leaked, and since the re-do (last summer), the spa has never leaked again. The re-tile job is beautiful. Looking to refinish your pool or build one? Let me tell you about my experiences. One can spend an enormous amount of time looking for the right contractor or one can make a rash decision by going with the first one you talk to. In some cases, that can be a good choice and then it can be a nightmare. I spent weeks getting many contractors to come out. Some times they show up, other times they don't or show up when they want to and not when they said they would. Then they tell you they will provide you a quote on everything you discussed. When and if the quote arrives, it usually isn't what was discussed and you have to take more time to resolve this. A good contractor will get it right the first time, be on time and know their business. Also, make sure you get referrals BEFORE you sign a contract (I signed one with one company before they gave me a referral and fortunately I went immediately to see it. I cancelled the contract that day as the pool I saw looked like it needed to be redone not just redone!). After many contractors (more than 10), I found Rainbow Pool Plastering. Mike and Sam came out immediately (the same day we called) and they followed up with a quote including everything discussed (the first one to do that!). Their price was competitive and they were not afraid to give me as many referrals as we wanted. We were looking at doing a Pebble Pool and they sent me to customers with different colors so that we could see what finished pools would look like. Not only did they do that, but they even let us see works in progress so we could see the process and how they treat a customers home. That was UNBELIEVEABLE! Seeing that they treat every customer's home as if it was their own was a turning point to me. They were so clean that you wouldn't know work was being done when they weren't there. We didn't just refinish our pool, we remodeled it. We added a Baja Step, moved our actual steps, fixed problems with plumbing, added a dual drain, replaced all the tile, added tile edging and more. Rainbow Pool not only explained every process in detail but they offered many options for us to choose what fit our budget and desires. Their professionalism and knowledge was reaffirming and made it an easy choice to sign a contract for them to do the work. They even came back out to our house multiple times to help us make the best choices - no pressure, just support throughout every step of the way. Every different crew was amazing. Each team doing different processes showed up on time and finished on time. Mike and Sam were consistently on the job site making sure everything was done as if it was their own pool and gave me great confidence that we would get an amazing new pool. I am literally the pickiest person on earth and I'm telling you I tipped these guys! They not only did everything they said they would do, they did more. The price was right, I got four quotes and they were one of the best 2! They came on Monday just like they said they would and drained the pool, then they came on Tuesday just like they said they would and demoed the pool, then they came on Wednesday and put the tile up just like they said they would, and then they came on Friday and put the plaster in just like they said they would.!!!! Providing an expedient service our pool came out beautifully. They were very responsive to our inquiries, and provided a professional service. They are a small family run business, with Mike doing the installs and Laura his sister doing the business end. We initially thought "cheap" looking at a gunite redo... but settled on mini-pebble. They drained the pool on Thursday. Is drained overnight - I was very concerned with the noise of whatever "compressor" they would be using... but it is an electric pump that is placed at the bottom of the pool - does not make any noise. Friday they stripped the old surface, Monday they put up the new tile. Wednesday they installed the mini-pebble, Thursday finished up with acid wash... So all told a week from demo to install. Mike even came back on Friday to check the water hardness for the start up... I had my pool guy do the start up. If you are concerned with how the mini-pebble will look they provided us with a few examples of their work and we went and looked... very helpful. We settled on Tropics blue, not Tropical blue, or Tropics breeze or just Tropical... I am very happy with the results, just wish it was warmer so I can jump in. When I asked for the quote to be itemized all I received was a short list of what the work was with no price breakdown. 72-hours later and several emails and phone calls ignored, I'm calling someone else. By far the most unprofessional company I've ever associated with. I'd give them zero stars if Yelp would let me. Update: In addition, his quote was 3x market rate. They finally got back to me and here is the email... unbelievable..... its really hard to itemized the price really!!! Its to repair what you discussed in person with Mike... Im sorry I can't itemize this. This may be the only company on the planet that cannot itemize the work they quoted. I know why you can't itemize it. It's because you pulled a number out of your behind and hoped I was dumb enough to pay it. The whole company is offensive in how they communicate and conduct business.
