First, I love the place itself. It offers a very "country" feel, great homey vibe, lot of woods, very clean, lot of memorabilia, old pics.... There is a large parking in the back and since it's a very biker friendly place, you'll have reserved spots for your motorcycles, next to the patio area. The place is located in rainbow, a small town by highway 15, a bit "in the middle of nowhere". If you are a biker you'll enjoy lot of windy rides in the mountains around there, between the ranches... The patio is a bit small but there is also a small "bar" (more like a counter) where you can simply stand and enjoy your beer without having to have a table. We came in for lunch/brunch on a Sunday. I didn't feel like breakfast and after checking some pics on yelp I went for the Texas Burger. It was excellent, HUGE portion (feeds 2!) tasty. The only complain: I asked my meat rare and the beef patty was obviously from the fridge and my patty came out COLD... Had a discussion with the server/bartender, who offered me a discount, apologized, and promised to do better next time but don't get me wrong: the rest was perfect. Great sandwich. (Chef: rare doesn't mean/have to be cold! I can do a hot rare steak at home...) Great slaw (on the sweet side). The service is impeccable, very friendly staff, owner and they are very accommodating. Can't wait to go back for dinner, try prime rib, goulash, meatloaf etc... I heard their breakfast are pretty good too. They offer vegetarian options as well. Full bar available! Good prices. Highly recommended, no matter you are "passing by" or bring your whole family for a dinner! read more

This is a good ol' fashioned American Diner. If you want a spot to chow down on some great food (or knock back a drink or two at the bar ;) and think back to a better time in this land. This is the place. The servers are kind and accurate with orders and everything is cook to perfection. The atmosphere is welcoming, calm, and hospitable. I'm genuinely thankful for Rainbow Oaks. I tried a California Omelette and it was fantastic. The avocado was perfect and tasted great. The sourdough toast was fresh also. I loved the side of fruit it came with sweet strawberries. I highly recommend the omelette. Another day I had tried the barbecue beef sandwich on the lunch menu. The beef was plentiful and tasted excellent. Very few places have the quality ingredients they serve here and that's why I enjoy the experience. read more

So cute inside! Reminds me of being in restaurant on a TV show like Virgin River. Down home and cozy. I had the Turkey dinner with mashed potatoes and stuffing. It was very good and a huge portion, I could not finish. read more

I'm so disappointed- the food was great. But it gave me food poisoning really bad.....it takes a lot for me to throw up.....I've been awake all night barfing. It was the only thing I ate yesterday....my stomach is killing me! I eat out all the time. Guess someone didn't wash their hands or something. But darn I don't think we will go back. I didn't even care the cook had forgotten to but an onion ring on my burger....‍ read more

We have been here a few times. Once for breakfast and once for lunch. The food and service were just fine. But on this third trip to the restaurant we were given a booth inside to sit at, and as I waited for my two girls to climb in I looked down and saw a dead mouse! Look I've worked at restaurants for many years and I know all kinds of pests are always going to be lurking somewhere but to actually see something dead under the table made it obvious their pest problem is out of control And made me seriously wonder about the poison that was used to kill it and their cleaning practices. We clearly did not stay for breakfast and will not be returning. read more

We had a family reunion at an Airbnb in Fallbrook, and wanted a place to eat before going home. I found this restaurant, and called to see if they had room for 15, last minute. They were SO sweet and able to accommodate us on their covered patio. The restaurant was PACKED, which is always a great sign. Thankfully they also had heat lamps because it was drizzling outside. The owner or manager was so attentive and kind, frequently checking to make sure we were warm enough. The food was delicious. Their blueberry pancakes and French toast were huge, and they certainly do not skimp on the blueberries! Sheesh! My brother had their boar and venison sausage. Not only was it gigantic, but he said it's the best sausage he's ever had. If I'm ever back in Fallbrook, I will be eating here again! read more

Went to dinner with the wife and her twin sister on Wednesday night for what I was told was their fabulous special, prime rib. Food was cold, and prime rib was so tough, it was hard to cut with a steak knife. Service was even worse. Had to get up, look for waitress for water. After meal, I had to ask cashier for my bill. All in all. Bad food and worst service. Don't wait your money ! read more

I had a huge craving for a juicy, perfectly grilled Ribeye steak... Found Rainbow Oak Restaurant on Yelp and as I was driving there I kept thinking Ribeye!... Ribeye!!! I walked in and saw the server walking by with one of the most beautiful perfectly cooked cuts of Prime Rib. I was now thinking PRIME RIB!!! YUM!!! Rainbow Oak Restaurant is freeway close but off the beaten path and a not so we'll kept secret based on the full parking lot, even during COVID-19 lockdown, which I would have gladly forgotten were it not for the food servers all wearing black face masks. Since they didn't have guns, I quickly assumed they were not robbers or cowboys and cowgirls. ;) (I'm so clever ... sometimes) So.... With all of the political, health and other challenges I realized that BAM too.... Black Angus Matters... especially if it is on my table in the form of Prime Rib, Ribeye, Flat Iron rare and sexy... yummy! Based on the various global currency hanging on the cashier's wall, Rainbow Oak Restaurant is also a melting pot of global customers, and evidently world renowned. Definitely worth the drive! Oh my goodness the portions are big here, especially the Texas burger. Big enough for two. They will make it for you the way you ask. If you ordered a rare cooked burger, that's how they'll make it for you and not overcook it. Burger patty is juicy. I really look forward to their onion rings. Super crispy on the outside and onion is soft and not dried on the inside. Ambiance has a small town cabin feel. Casual and comfortable. Service is friendly and quick. read more

We moved out of Fallbrook and haven't been back to this restaurant in over 15 years. We used to really enjoy it. We were spending a week in the area and decided to go back. Wow, it is fantastic. If you're looking for fancy, this is not your place. However, if you want great food, large portions and reasonable prices, this is the place. The current owner, Jeanine introduced herself, which is always a nice touch and the staff is excellent. We actually ate here three times during the week and every meal was wonderful. I particularly liked the breakfasts and the hamburger. My wife enjoyed the chicken sandwich and a huge salad. They have gotten some national press because they play the Star Spangled Banner at noon. Everyone stands up with hand over heart; very cool. If you're in the area, I would recommend giving them a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

Way too much oil, sauce, butter, and cream in everything: burger, pasta, sandwich, mashed potatoes, shrimp, and even the "salad" is actually just beans drenched in oil. I can even squeeze out dripping oil in the fried onion. Pasta is drenched in the Alfredo sauce, also no need to mention the huge amount of sauce in burgers and sandwiches. The only satisfying point is that the jumbo shrimps are huge and fresh -- they have good ingredients, so why not leaving it as it is and stopping pouring oil into the dishes read more

Such a fun quaint restaurant with a down home family feel. Portions are huge and can easily be shared. The weekends get super busy so there might be a bit of a wait but so worth it. It's a nice little drive down to Rainbow and they have cute little gift shops on the property as well. read more

So for over 30 years we have driven past Rainbow Oaks Restaurant. This past weekend we decided to finally try it out with my parents. Geez why did it take us this long!! We shared the farmhouse skillet and a chorizo skillet as we saw the size of the servings. Both were heavenly! Service was great and we got seated within 10 minutes. read more

The "Rainbow" Omelet was the best omelet I have ever eaten. The portion was enormous, the egg was fluffy, the ingredients within were perfectly cooked, and NO overcooked (brown) egg. Hidden right off the highway and what a gem it was. Country like setting with a antique store across the way, a candy store, and country market. Food at the restaurant was so good (chicken Alfredo). I love finding places like this I'm sure it's a local getaway. We will do return. read more

Never knew this place was here after all these years of driving by it on the 15. Made reservations for large party for Sunday breakfast. Was a little nervous when we drove up because the place was packed. They seated our party quickly and our waiter was very friendly and did a good job with how busy it was. All of our food was Delicious, I had the chicken fried steak (so good) and my husband had the tasty French toast. I hear they have some delicious fried chicken so need to find out what day of the week they have it because it's hard to find a place with good fried chicken. read more

They were able to seat us on a Friday morning right away and I believe this is because they also have a lovely heated, outdoor seating area. It looked and tasted special, especially with the dried rose garnish. Another unique menu item was the Reuben Benedict. Corned beef is a very big favorite of mine, as is hollandaise sauce and a poached egg. All of it came together beautifully and really deliciously too. The choice of cheese was a very good accompaniment. I got the Parmesan potatoes and they were really tasty too, I did add my own salt, but that was fine because all the other tastes and textures were on point! A special breakfast that was worth a couple extra dollars! For me it's either diner food for breakfast or a special brunch and this fell into the special brunch category and they did a wonderful job. Someone came to get our drink order and then it took a bit of time for our actual waiter Leila to come take our order. She did mention she was doing something else. we ordered the steak and frites and their pork chop which was the special of the day. I ordered my steak medium rare and the rest of the table ordered it in medium. When the steaks came out, the waiters seem confused as if they weren't sure which plates went where and when asked if that's a medium rare steak, they stated yes. That steak was medium and it was also dry and under seasoned. It was also tough and chewy. The fries were either undercooked or overcooked. Chimichurri sauce had no flavor to it. We did also order the cedar salad which was delicious. Their calamari and wings were as well. At the end of the night, Leila asked our friend how he liked his steak because it didn't seem like he ate anything. He said it was okay and she kept insisting you can be honest and kept pushing the matter. This was extremely uncomfortable because there was no need to make him feel like he was put on the spot. while I understand the need to want feedback, if your guest says it's okay and seem uncomfortable, maybe leave it at that. She then came over to me and asked about my steak and again saying, "you can be honest." Why wouldn't I be? I did tell her the steak was cooked incorrectly, that was not a medium steak and pointed out that it was dry. There was this awkward silence at the table because honestly there wasn't a need to keep pushing. Simply asking how was it would have suffice. They did end up comping my steak which was nice of them however the entire experience just wasn't pleasant. From the ambiance, to the crowd, to the food - wasn't worth it.

Great service makes such a difference, and he consistently goes above and beyond. The Sunday buffet brunch is really good. We especially love the chilaquiles and omelette station, always fresh and delicious. It's such an enjoyable place to come whether it's during the week or on the weekend. Flavor overall was decent, but nowhere near memorable. The mac and cheese was bland, the beans were okay, and even the pickles had an odd chemical taste to them. The service was genuinely great, which was the highlight of the experience, but at around $48 for the combo plate, the food quality just didn't justify the cost. For comparison, Heritage BBQ in San Juan Capistrano is in an entirely different league when it comes to quality and execution. This place felt much more geared toward tourists than serious BBQ fans.
