When around 1 pm on a Wednesday. There were 2 people already seated. Waited in the entrance trying to get seated. The waitress was in the back evidently. She came out her hiding space a couple of times, saw me and went back to her hiding space. No acknowledgement, no "I'll be right with you"....nothing. Stood there with my wife for 15 minutes patiently until my wife wanted to leave. Not sure if it's a race thing? I cute mom/pop shop. The 1 waitress is nice. I do see their notice of how they reduce staff to make sure prices are low which I thought was interesting. The only down side of this place I would say is their service. I sat there with my bf ready to order and while we wait/ ate I could clearly see there's two other employees just not serving per se. one is working VERY slow on wiping menus. && I mean SLOW AF. I never seen someone wipe menus for over 30min. Then the other server only seated and clean tables then she would hang around, not grab food out, not take order. Only one other server did that. I felt that definitely could be improved! I enjoyed their lemon meringue pie (idk if it's homemade but it's good) and their cinnamon roll (I think are homemade) So far I went there on 2 occasions, first time I got an half of omelette and the second time I got was soup and apps. My bf got biscuit and gravy first time and second time French toast. He said the both were good but most likely reorder the French toast!! read more

I stopped in today for a late breakfast. I ordered the special off of the chalkboard which was Country Quiche. It wasn't on the menu so I am guessing at the ingredients- eggs, crust, a few peppers, onion and bacon bacon bacon. First of all the crust of the Quiche was overcooked and was a dark brown color. I didn't mind that the whole thing was covered in white gravy except that the flavor of the gravy was not great. The hashbrowns were delicious which was due to the fact they were swimming in oil. The flavor of the Quiche was overpowered by the bacon and extremely salty. A little bacon goes a long way. I skipped the top cheesy crust and gravy along with the icky bottom crust and ate the egg middle. If you want customers to come back, make a great meal especially if the price point is $14.99!! Been coming to this place for karaoke nights since moving to auburn 4 years ago but never had their food. Each time we tried, the restaurant would always be so packed! So we always ended up leaving. Well, not this weekend. Yesterday we went and were lucky enough to get a table. The hubs had the Hillbilly skillet with perfectly cooked potatoes and delicious chicken fried steak. I had the club- a 3 decker (always important!) with turkey, ham AND bacon and let me tell you it wasn't some sad, sliced pieces of deli meat. The meat was MEATY- carving board style-Like every sandwich SHOULD have. I was blown away! And the potato salad!? The best I've ever had in a restaurant. None of that Safeway pre-made garbage. That potato salad was made in house and was smackin! My kid had the teddy bear pancakes which were also very good. A group of us were thrilled to find a breakfast joint open early on a Sunday morning. Free street parking can be found. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Tabs were easily and correctly split. Rainbow Cafe offers a family dining area as well as a lounge. We opted the lounge. The lounge opens one hour earlier than the restaurant. The lounge offers a full bar, a pool table, TV's, an ATM machine, pull tabs, an outdoor seating area and a jukebox. For starters, we all ordered Bloody Mary's for $6.50 each. Our Mary's were garnished with lemon, lime, pickled green bean, green olive and a pepperoncini pepper. Excellent Mary's. My wife ordered the Country Benedict for $10.99: a sausage patty served on a buttermilk biscuit and two eggs topped with sausage gravy. Skillet potatoes were chosen over hash-browns. My wife enjoyed her breakfast choice. My daughter ordered the One Egg Breakfast for $6.59: one egg, three bacon strips and an English muffin. Perfectly sized for my daughter. My bestie and I shared the Eggs Benedict for $10.99: two poached eggs and ham on an English muffin topped with Hollandaise sauce. Skillet potatoes were chosen over hash-browns. We both also enjoyed our breakfast choice. I appreciated that each breakfast was garnished with an orange slice. Nice touch Rainbow. Our server Tabby was down-to-earth, funny, honest and friendly. This place has a mom and pop kind of feeling. Their service is very fast and the people here are really nice. Food is quality and that's why the food is priced high than a chained restaurants. Note: I'm teetering between a three and a four - thanks for the half star option, Yelp. I came to Rainbow Cafe as a quick alternative to Sun Break Cafe, when I realized they were no longer serving breakfast (which just wasn't acceptable in my book). Rainbow Cafe is definitely cute, sticking to some kind of northwest theme - evergreen tree menus, evergreen art on the walls, etc. I really liked that about this place. Furthermore, I also really loved the food! My younger cousins got the Teddy Bear pancakes which they devoured, my aunt loved her Eggs Benedict and the kitchen executed her orders perfectly, and my Hillbilly Skillet was booomb. The chicken fried steak pieces were perfectly sized, the potatoes had sooo much flavor, and the gravy was really good. Although I'd like to give this place a five, I just didn't like the service we received. The waitress had an attitude from the second I walked in and she was just kind of snarky our entire time there. I saw her interacting with regulars and she was SO nice, so I know she's capable of it - that's how she should've been with us as well. I go here a lot being that it is walking distance from my job and the food is normally really good, especially the breakfast. Today was not the same. They have a new older server, nice lady, but she is not very gracious. I ordered the 2 egg breakfast with sausage. I finished all my hash browns, toast and eggs before ever touching my sausage. When I finally went to eat my sausage they were still raw. Even after letting them sit while eating my other food. I asked for new ones as it is not safe to consume undercooked pork. She did not seem to care and talked about me to the cooks. When I got my new sausage links they were still undercooked. At this point I needed to leave. Don't let the negative reviews keep you from trying out the Rainbow Cafe. I work in Auburn and there isn't a huge amount of decent places to eat but I've always had positive experiences here. Granted, I've only eaten breakfast and lunch here so I can't comment on the dinner menu. But it's your run of the mill mom and pop diner. Prices are reasonable...$7-8 for breakfast/lunch. Sandwiches are pretty good. They use nice thick cut bacon. Servers always seem friendly and attentive. It won't knock you socks off or anything but for a lunch in Auburn, it ain't bad. For a quick cheap lunch, do the half sandwich/soup/salad special. read more

I was passing through town on business and tried two other places but both stopped servin breakfast at 11am. A nice waitress recommended this joint. I was concerned about coming here based upon the reviews but contrary to a couple of the most recent reviews had a very positive experience. The service was excellent. Our waitress is clearly a pro as it's just her but she has managed to be the only waitress on the floor with 7 tables. Had a smile on her face and appears to be genuinely having a good time. Quick to fill my cup! The food was good. The Rainbow skillet is a little heavy on the potato but is otherwise quite good. Showed up here mid-day on a Thursday, and most of the tables were open. It's a "seat yourself" cafe. We ordered a soup and a salad, and both were excellent. Came tonight decided to go with a special which was prime rib melt decided against the sautéed onions. I formed server, I was within earshot of the kitchen and heard the server ask the cook "no onions on the prime rib melt?" He proceeded to chastise her as he made it with onions... He cursed at her! I felt mad for her age apologized to him and he remade. When I got my plate I could not eat it was mostly fat and little bit of meat. I was disgusted and put it to the side.
