The salmon bagel tasted very burnt and smelled off. The onions looked black (pictured) and possibly spoiled. I politely raised my concern, but the situation was handled very poorly. There was no attempt to resolve the issue -- no offer to remake/ replace it, or provide a refund. Instead, I was met with rude behavior and weird looks that made me feel uncomfortable for even bringing it up, like it was somehow my fault their food tasted bad. She selected the Zola Bowl, which was flavorful and satisfying. I chose the Roasted Veggie Panini, which had creamy cheese, sweet roasted vegetables, and crunchy, delicious bread. We liked the food so much that we stopped there the second day and ordered the exact same items. It's a small cafe with local art and some local jewelry for sale as well. There are a few outdoor seats, which were great for a beautiful, sunny day. Order at the counter and the food will be brought out to you. It's a casual cafe where you bus your own table. I've been going to Zola's cafe for almost 6 years now. Their coffee has always been on point, and the baked goods are just awesome. I never thought to post a review until now. The current owner, Matt, introduced some changes. I only recently discovered that Matt makes some of the best soup you can get in Auburn. Or anywhere really. There's always great artwork on the walls, and fine tunes on the wire. The previous reviews put it as a top contender for breakfast as we were passing thru town. First, I would call this a coffee shop with food and not a 'cafe'. Like any other coffee shop, step up to the counter, order, sit and wait for your name to be called. But unlike other shops the food isn't premade processed food that get reheated to order. The egg and hashbrown burrito I got was pretty good. I have never had a burrito made on a panini press and I can say it's a great way to do it! Visited on a Sunday for brunch time with a couple of friends and we spent about 2 hours here. They did not kick us out and let us enjoy our time here. When you arrive, you can sit wherever you like and their menus are available right at the front of the register. After you order, they will deliver your food and/or drink to you. Inside was spacious, with some outdoor seating. They even have a couch by the fireplace if youre just there to hangout and enjoy your coffee. For coffee, I ordered a latte. Creamy with a good taste of espresso. For food, I ordered a Eggplant Panini and although it look small, it was actually very filling. Could only eat half and took the rest home. I have to say to this day, I am still craving that sandwich. Their foccacia bread is so unique and tasted so well with the sandwich, I need to go back when I have time to. It was that good. My friends also ordered a panini and have finished theirs. Also noted that they loved theirs as well. Sadly, I did not write the names of them down. Overall, I definitely recommend. This was a great spot to grab a light lunch and some coffee! The hubs and I were driving through the area and needed lunch and coffee and this hit those requirements. My husband ordered make your own sandwich and got it with turkey, mayo, tomato, pickle on focaccia and he loved it! I had a bite and it was good! The side salad and ranch was also delicious. We used to come here often when we lived closer so I recently stopped by. Good coffee, unique pastry and breakfast options. I enjoyed the zucchini bread though extremely small piece for its price. I'd say the one thing that doesn't change about this place is how stinky you are leaving it each time. I don't know why but I feel drenched in whatever cooking oils they are using when walking out. I came here with a friend to catch up. Really cute spot in the middle of downtown Auburn. They have lots of goodies which I'll for sure be back to try. I got a sugar free vanilla latte which was really good. My only very slight issue was that I think they used the same spoon to stir mine that they used to stir my friends peppermint mocha. We live in the area every time we decide to go it's closed. So we went today ordered our food and a young guy named Calvin sneezed in his arm and did not wash his hands and continued taking dishes out of the dishwasher absolutely disgusting and he's the guy who made our sandwich's. The cashier yells at him go wash your hands looks at her weird! Don't get the hash brown sandwich! The potatoes were completely dried out. I needed a steak knife, rather than a fork or butter knife to cut through it. Been coming here for 10+ years. Service has changed a lot under new owner. I ordered a Zola bowl yesterday which took a long time to come out and when it did I noticed there were no sweet potatoes in it as described on the menu. The person working at the front asked "are you sure?" I said yes, and also there are no carrots in it. She said "no, there aren't supposed to be carrots in it". See attached menu pic. So I continued eating my bowl waiting for the missing ingredients to be made and then found a piece of plastic shaving in the bowl. I came here for breakfast with my parents; two of us are vegan and one is omni. We got the vegan breakfast burritos. They would have been decent except they were so dry. We needed quite a lot of salsa to help them along. There weren't any non-pork meats for my step-dad, so he had the hash brown sandwich. He said it was fine. I got a steamed almond milk with gingerbread syrup, but it just tasted like milk. Service - great. Seating options - great. Food... perfection! We follow a plant based diet, we don't call ourselves vegan, but, it's how we find restaurants. No meat or dairy. The field roast sausage panini, was so delicious. I would order it next time and ask for extra peppers and onions - just so delicious. But then... I had this zucchini chocolate muffin that was more like the most dynamite brownie I have ever had. We also shared a raspberry coconut muffin (also vegan) that was just YUM. Week 29/52 in my endeavor to try one new (to me) local spot per week. I was in the Auburn area and needed a place to work for a couple of hours after dropping the kids off. I took to Yelp (duh) and found Zola's a close drive away! There's a parking lot backed up against the building that's pretty ample, so finding a spot was no issue. Walked in to Zola's and immediately felt a sense of community. Local art, down-to-earth staff, and tons of delicious offerings! I'm bummed that I was just here for a quick work session and a coffee (which was delicious by the way). Beyond caffeinated beverages, they've got wines, beers, and a super tasty sounding menu! I noticed an assortment of breakfast sandwiches, paninis, soups and salads, pastries... There was a ton. Zola's is definitely somewhere that I'll have to return for a drink and some bites to get the full experience. Overall, a really great local find. read more

Popular little cafe. Lots of paintings on the wall and some seatings inside and outside. Good coffee. We had some sandwiches for lunch. Tuna melts was pretty creamy. Reuben was decent. I would say I had better ones. I also ordered mushroom soup. Doesn't look appealing. Yes they forgot my soup after I ordered it. But that okay seems like they are short handed and couldn't handle more than 5 people in line. What I don't like is the soup is mushroom soup. It just some salty warm chopped mushroom water with a blender. No texture or wild mushroom flavor. I would recommend stick with the coffee products and sandwiches.
