Sandy: Do you prefer Cupertino or San Carlos location? Me: San Carlos Sandy: For San Carlos I can do 5pm on Sunday 7/20 9am on Monday 7/21 11:30 am on Thursday 7/24 9am on Friday 7/25 Let me know. I can only take cash in San Carlos since I don't have machine over there. Me: Let's do Sunday, 7/20 @ 5pm. Will we start with a consultation so that you can explain the different options? Finally, I call the other location and ask where I can find Sandy. Well, it happened that she picks up the phone and first thing she says is "umm.. you have an appointment with me?" Yes, we were emailing back & forth and we decided on Sunday at 5pm. "Ohhh.. umm.. I'm actually still in Cupertino," can you wait for me there until 6pm?" WTF!?!? No, I can't wait until 6pm!! It was hard enough for me to do 5pm today but I'm here - with my wad of cash but nowhere to spend it. "Oh.. well, you never confirmed." WHAT!!!!??? I NEVER CONFIRMED??? DID THAT LAST EMAIL NOT SAY "I HAVE RESERVED 1.5 HOURS FOR YOU ON SUNDAY!!??" I can't believe that she tried to throw it back on me! If Sandy was more apologetic about it and offered to make it right, I would have gladly considered on giving them my business still but I barely even got an apology out of it because she insists that I did not confirm. Well what is the point of having a Groupon offer if not to attract new clients?? As Shirley pressed me 3x to make a WEEKDAY appointment - "can you come in on a weekday? No? How about Friday. Friday?" Um no Shirley. I have something called a J-O-B during the weekday that I am not going to leave in the middle of the day to get a facial for. After telling me that the 3 weekends ahead were booked, she finally relented and booked me for a Saturday (GASP!) appointment FOUR weeks from that date. Should have guessed what would happen....... On the day of my appointment, I circled around the block 6x to find parking as the place is located in an old dowdy suite along busy El Camino around the corner from a Shell gas station. Yes. Fancy. Finally found parking 3 blocks away. As I trudged into the old nasty looking closet that they call a door, I announce to the receptionist, "Hi, I have an appointment today at 3pm." Receptionist : "Um. You do?" "Yes- I booked it about a month ago with this lady with an accent?" "Oh yes- that's the owner Shirley but I'm sorry no appointment booked for you today." End of story. No follow up phone calls or anything whatsoever that resembled an apology. I filed a formal complaint with Groupon and should have taken the other Yelp reviews more seriously where Shirley herself responds back to negative reviews by stating and I quote, "However if you think that "it was not worth it," We wish you the best for finding a spa that could satisfy your need in San Jose." Note to Shirley: We are nowhere NEAR San Jose my dear. This is called the Peninsula. And we don't -and will not- put up with your shady "business" practice either.

The actual 60 min massage was good, and I'm grateful they were able to fit in me last minute on a…read moresat night. But there were a couple of points that make it 2 stars. And long story short, I won't be returning. 1) when I called to make my appt, I asked several times to confirm for a foot massage bc I didn't want to have to take off my clothes, and really wanted to concentrate on my sprained ankle. The front desk lady said yes when I asked foot massage. However when I arrived, I realized it was the lay down massage only and I'd have to remove clothing. It's fine , I understand there may have been a language barrier, and I won't complain about getting a massage even if it's not the exact one I want last minute. 2) this location does not use sheets to cover you , they use a medium size towel that basically only covers your torso and upper thigh. I didn't realize this, so when I first walked into the room, I used the sheet on top of the table to cover me- no one had told me about the towels when I arrived to the room. When the masseuse came into the room, she told me to get out from under the sheet, and when assisting me, my whole chest was sticking out lol (I am a woman who is somewhat modest, and really appreciate when massage staff care to keep me covered when moving on the table). So modesty is not really a priority here. FYI, The massage table is heated but air temp cold with just a towel. 3) the masseuse asked me to pay at the beginning of the session, when I already had my clothes off, so while on the table I had to reach for my wallet on the chair next to me. Then 50 mins into my 60 min session, she asked me to tip, which felt a lil weird. I offered to tip 20% , but she requested I round up and then add $2. I was annoyed, but an extra $2.5 isn't going to kill me, so I didn't make a big deal over it. TLDR: massage was good, but really not a fan of the how payment was acquired, being haggled for tip, towel used instead of sheet to cover me, modesty not really a priority, and confusion over the specific services offerings at this location when talking to the front desk over the phone .
