Hands down (pardon the pun) the very best Thai Massage in the city. I have been going to Anjalee for years. The practitioners that I have seen are highly skilled, and very intuitive to know where to focus during the session. This is not going to be a massage like you would get at Massage Envy, where you are laying on a table and your body being attended to in quarters. Anjalee really holds true to classic Thai Massage, and they will walk on you, twist you, knead you, and rotate you, use their elbows, heels. If you are looking for a very serene and tranquil massage, this is not it. They read your ailments like a book and work their magic in order to make you feel better. You will wear a very thin shirt and pants and it's a dry massage. You can ask for Tiger Balm or lotion, but this isn't a massage where you're all lathered up in oil. This is a place of skilled therapists, that intuitively gauge what areas they should be focusing on, even if that means foregoing other areas; which is fine by me. I personally don't need my forearm massaged if they can concentrate on another area that's actually causing me distress. You can let them know upfront what your preference is in terms of pressure, and also areas to avoid. This business operates on the most professional levels, is immaculately clean, and is a peaceful environment. It by far is one of my favorite treasures in San Francisco. read more

I booked the 90-minute combo Thai and Swedish massage, and it felt neither here nor there. The flow was chaotic -- techniques kept changing abruptly, and what was done on one side often didn't match the other. My husband had the same service and felt the same. The one saving grace (and why I'm giving three stars) was the pressure -- strong and consistent. But the technique was lacking. The space is beautiful, clean, and relaxing, but the therapists don't seem well-trained, and the service didn't live up to the setting. read more

We were treated extremely rudely from the moment we walked in. Despite being friendly and polite, the man at the front made us feel completely unwelcome. Definitely won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing experience read more

100/10 I love this place so much! I don't have enough good things to say about the staff and experience at both of their locations (Anjalee and La Biang Thai.) They're incredible. I've never had a bad experience with any of the massage therapists, and Ron is so kind. I have a favorite masseuse, of course-but they're all very skilled and I would highly recommend anyone here. I have some medical issues so I work with the same person every time. She's incredible. I've been working with her for years, due to my chronic mobility issues and pain-I needed someone who knew their stuff but also cared enough to be detail oriented when it comes to my body's over-reactive drama and how to fix it. She knows my pain spots before I even think about pointing them out, I'm talking EXACT spot where the pain starts, and she can feel where I need the most work for that session. I'd trust her with my life. I go as often as I can afford, the prices are the best in SF for the quality. Bar. None. I went to a VERY fancy day spa in Noe Valley not long ago (I got a gift certificate) I thought it was going to be great, i would sit in the sauna, get my massage, get my eyebrows waxed... only for it to be the BIGGEST disappointment of the century. My eyebrows were fine, but the massage was a joke. Anjalee has spoiled me. I don't trust anyone else. They're just the best!!!! read more

A massage spot providing traditional Thai massage along with some more western (i.e. oil-based) variants. Seemingly owned by the same people who run La Biang just down the street. Having had hundreds of Thai massages, including in Thailand, I have a pretty informed perspective. If you're not familiar with Thai massage, it is distinctive in that you typically are fully clothed, substantial stretching is used to unlock tight areas, and typically the masseuse will supplement their hand-based massage with use of their feet, elbows, arms, etc. (Including ashiatsu-style back walking) to provide pressure. While Thai massage has some core components to the typical massage (go to Thailand and most will do a few core things), it can vary. Pros: - Reasonably priced. About $80+tip for 1 hour puts it among the cheapest Thai massage in the area. Previously some lower end places offered $60/hour massages but those recently raised their prices. - Online booking with the ability to book specific therapists. - Clean and efficient. - Therapists know enough English where you can communicate discomfort or issues throughout. - Therapists on average are pretty good. See cons for more discussions. I found a few who were consistently good. Cons: - Some inconsistency in the Therapists. I've had some who are seemingly distracted or far too light. Some otherwise give a solid massage but it is quite different from what you'd expect of a Thai massage - i.e. it typically is not very traditional. Some even use oil at times, which I dislike. I've only had one bad massage here and many good ones. - Same-day walkins limited at best. read more

Kind staff, clean and quiet enough space, and great massage. Nook did a fabulous job working out my neck and shoulder knots, with some great massage + stretching for the rest of my body too. Like other reviewers said, this was a firm massage - I asked for strong and this was my first time having to ask for less pressure which was respected. The tea at the end was a nice touch, too. Looking forward to going back! read more

I rarely feel compelled to leave reviews but that was one of the best massages I've had in recent memory. Nook paid attention to every area I marked and helped me crack all of the tension from my back. Phenomenal :) read more

I had a massage yesterday and my masseuse was so rough that she injured my wrists by putting too much pressure with her feet. I have swelling and bruising, and both of my wrists were hurting so bad all night and all day today, I had to take painkillers. I am going to go to the doctor tomorrow to see what damage has been done. I wish I remembered the name of this masseuse as she should be banned from giving massages. She was obviously angry during my session and was using an abnormal amount of pressure mostly doing massage with her feet rather than hands when I indicated medium pressure on the form. I have been a regular customer of both Anjalee and La Biang for at least a year and this is the first time I am suffering consequences of the incompetent Thai massage. Be careful and speak up when it hurts during the massage. I wish I got up and left and 10 minutes of that torturous massage because it felt more like a beating with feet than a massage. read more

Be warned: it's tough. This Thai massage is not a completely relaxing and feel-good experience. A lot of it is uncomfortable, especially on the back, but when it's done, you have incredible release. You feel so light and awake and at peace after which is so rare with massages. The place itself, with your own room and outfit to wear and dark wood and tea and candies, is delectably inviting and alluring. 5 stars!!!!!! read more

I've visited Anjalee Thai Massage a few times when my usual place, La Biang, doesn't have any open appointments. It's also located on Polk Street, and I've never left here disappointed with the service I've received! This is a no-frills yet tidy massage spot, and similarly to La Biang, you can get different types of massages and indicate how much pressure you would like from the masseuse. I really enjoy their traditional Thai massages, which helps reverse all the aches and tension that I get (likely from my poor posture and lack of regular stretching). I've always found the masseuses to be friendly, and they follow your instructions in terms of the areas where you would like more attention/focus during the massage. This place rocks! read more

Went for a couples massage and my partner thought it was the worst Thai massage he's ever had. It was as if the masseuse had never given a thai massage or any other massage before. All of this might have been a fluke given the other reviews, but the two of us were befuddled at how others had glowing reviews as my massage was only ok. Both were weak and didn't work on the knots like typical places do. The owner called and offered to make it right with free follow up massages - which was a nice gesture, but given our experience there we are not going back and will stick to the places we know. read more

First time try this place. I went with my girlfriend. I got Nui to be my massage therapist which is goood. She knows what is she doing. Thank to her 5stars for this lady . But my girlfriend got someone very different. she doesn't seem to know how to work on people body. She just do all over my girlfriend body from feet to head and then feet again and head again. No pressure and also feel uncomfortable with this lady. So we both wasting time and money for this lady. I would recommend everyone to go IF YOU CAN GRT SOMEBODY ELSE NO "SU" read more

Like the Wizard of Oz, it depends on the characters you get. It's been hit or miss here. One thing that's a definite miss is calling for an appt, then showing up to find out they don't have a record of me calling. And since I'm paying $4.00 and hour for parking in the city, and trying to find a decent spot, it can be frustrating. Back to the characters. Oz, hence the Wizard of Oz reference, is great, but she's normally booked, so on the occasions when I've had other massage therapists it's been hit or miss. Once the pressure was so hard it reminded me of when Bane broke Batman's back, and I worried for a bit. When you don't get the right therapist, it can be painful. That said, if you get the right massage therapist it can be relaxing. I just think there should be consistency with the massages-hence the 3 instead of 4 stars. The pic below are non-expiring certificates I got as a gift that I redeemed 3 weeks ago. read more

I like this spot - good massages and on the cheaper end for San Francisco! They give you a pair of slippers to use inside - once they take you to your "room", you can change into the loose clothes that have for you. My thai massage was good, I have gone twice now when my back is all knotted up and they are able to get quite a lot out in just a half hour (though I do recommend doing the 1 hour massage if you have the time). It's $40 for half hour or $75 for the full hour (prices are different for some of the other types of massages they offer). I knocked off a star because my masseuse was clearly sick (sniffling/heavy swallowing) which made me feel uncomfortable - not her fault, they should have asked her to stay home :\ read more

I'm really disappointed with my experience at Anjalee yesterday. I have been a regular customer for the past 3 years atleast and have always been very happy previously. Yesterday afternoon I called and asked if there was any same-day availability with Luck who I go to regularly. I was very clear. The lady at the desk said that yes, she could put me in for 7 pm. When I came in she told me she was ready for me and went I went in the back I was surprised to find that it was a different girl named Ploy. I thought maybe she was just helping me get settled but when I got dressed, Ploy came into the room again. At that point, I was already dressed and ready for a massage so I said it was fine that she was there which I really regret. The massage was kind of painful and very different in style than Luck's. At the end I asked the lady at the desk why Ploy had replaced Luck and she said Luck was on vacation. I think it's really unfair that she mislead me with a different massage therapist because I would've definitely liked to come back when Luck was there. To top it off, today my left side is in pain, which sucks because I do kickboxing and yoga. It feels super sore even when Im not working out in that one area, which has never happened to me before after a medium pressure massage. :( I'm really disappointed by this recent experience especially because I have been a customer for years now. read more

I'm rounding up from 4.5 stars since part of my experience wasn't their fault. My back and shoulders were in so much pain that I was having trouble moving. Somebody recommended them and even told me about their yelp deal so I even got a discount while I'm at it. They did a generally good job on me. While I'm not quite pain-free, I got a lot of my range of movement back. Big thanks! My bad (kind of funny in a way) experience toward the tail end of my massage. Some guy walked in and was talking rather loudly. Apparently requesting "special" services. It took a little while and a bunch of the people working there to convince him that they don't offer those. That guy gave my otherwise very nice massage a weird vibe. At least I have stories to tell afterwards! read more

I've been to over 15 massage places in SF and this is my go-to place now. After about 10 different people, I found my favorite person! But everyone is pretty damn good. It's probably the best massage for the price. $70 for an hour. Deep tissue is typically $2 per minute these days and not as deep as Thai. For those new to Thai massage, they step on you. There's a bar across the top where they can use it for balance. Their precision with feet and toes is actually very good. The best is when they use their elbows to really get those hard knots in the back. If you go regularly, they have a loyalty program for bulk discounts. read more

I did a 90 minute prenatal massage here and It. Was. AMAZING. I left feeling so relaxed and happy, sans kinks or pains. I can't recommend this place (and their sister location, La Biang Thai) enough. Price is also one of the best in the city.... so many expensive places (unfortunately) but this one's pricing is super fair and makes it reasonable to keep this place as your regular go-to massage spot read more

Not one to pay for a $300 massage at Burke Williams SF, I usually resort to the $ or even $$ whilst searching on Yelp for top massage places in the city. After discovering that La Nee Thai (found on Yelp) was already booked, they referred me to Anjalee. Called that same day and booked a 30-min Traditional Thai Massage for $30. Perfect on a random Sunday afternoon. The place, albeit in the middle of crackheads and piss, was designed with modern Ikea-quality decor in mind. Once checked-in, you're ushered behind a curtain which leads you into a long hallway that are flanked by private massage rooms separated by thick Bed Bath and Beyond curtains. Generic new-age and relaxing Spa music is played throughout the massage. Once you're in your space, you are instructed to drop trou and change into their pajamas and lay down on the Ikea futon. The masseuses practically whisper (it's all part of the "you're here to relax" mood) when talking to you so listen closely. When the masseuse was pressing her knuckles into my shoulder blades a little too hard, my flinch was enough to signal her to stop digging so damn hard... and my blissful journey into serenity continued. The reflexology (aka foot massage) also cost the same price but wasn't as delicious as the Thai massage. This is one of my must-go when I'm in the mood for a cheap massage in the 'loin. read more

I love a good spa day but sometimes (rarely) I don't feel like spending a few hundred bucks for the super fancy places (Nob Hill Spa). This is the perfect place if you need a killer massage without the fancy spa amenities. Call a day ahead and ask for a 60 minute Thai Oil Massage ($90). You won't be disappointed by this! Arrive on time. They'll ask you to remove your shoes and then take you to your little spa tent. You might start to think "um, what kind of place is this?" - Because it's def basic inside...But clean and only a little creepy. The massage makes up for ALL of this. A little tiny woman the size of my daughter had the strength of a 200 pound man. She did an incredible job and I left feeling relaxed with zero back pain. Please support this awesome business, I'm in love with them. And if you really feel like treating yourself (you should!) pick up a donut next door post massage! read more

I just had one of the best Thai massages of my life here the other week! I do weight training and a lot of hardcore yoga, so on any given day, my body is just beat, and Anjalee was just what I needed. I called in for an appointment and they had one extra spot open for the next hour, and so I went. I circled my most sore areas, indicated that I wanted strong pressure and got situated in my Thai massage garb. Then for the next hour, I entered into absolute ~*bliss*~. My masseuse looks tiny, but she can dole out a strong massage. She rubbed out all of my sore areas and with just the right amount of strong, yet at the same time delicate, pressure. It was amazing. It's no exaggeration to say that she was a total body whisperer. My body got exactly what it needed. I'll for sure be back :) read more

Needed a massage and read the Yelp reviews for Anjalee. I made a phone call and explained that this would be my first Thai massage. The receptionist was very welcoming and explained everything over the phone. When I arrived I was greeted warmly and instructed to remove my shoes. Then Katie took me to my floor bed and instructed me on how to put on the baggy outfit. Turns out the bigger the better as I have never been stretched out like that in my life and you need a lot room in your clothing to accomplish the feat. I was nervous when I asked for a strong massage, but when I saw how tiny Katie was , I wasn't worried thinking that even though I like a deep tissue this little gal would not be able to test my limits. I was SOOOOOOOO WRONG!!! Katie turned me from a brittle twisted pretzel to a loose pile of soothed and stretched muscles. I don't know what she was doing with her feet on my back and thighs, but it felt as if she had four hands stretching my shoulders far away from my hips. I honestly think I am an inch taller now. I look forward to Katie's next assault on my tight muscles, especially my shoulders. She found every knot with her toes and twisted them into submission. This will be my go to place for tension relief. First timers: Don't drink or eat a couple hours before as you are stretched and pulled in many awkward positions and that last thing you want is a full bladder. Don't be afraid of the ropes hanging above you, those are for the masseuse to balance and reduce/increase weight on you. If you have issues with intimacy or personal space, this is not the place for you! If you are not used to the tiger balm stuff, be prepared for a very warm almost burning sensation, but it feels really good. It is like a library in here and you only have a drape in between you and the next client so even though you want to express your joy or pain verbally you have to be quiet. Don't forget to breathe, I found myself holding my breath waiting to see what the next Twister position I was going to be in. 90 minutes was long enough for the first time. If you don't like a strong massage, make sure you say gentle. read more

I visited San Francisco and lost my Thai massage virginity! All I can say is- I've never been touched like that before! It was exactly how I like most everything in my life- it was exhilarating and had moments of great pleasure, yet at the same time it hurt!** I was experiencing an over all soreness in my body when I arrived for my appointment due to the yoga class I rocked the day before, however my friend told me this would be relieved when I had my massage. She was mostly right. After the massage- I felt loose like a noodle, but during the massage I went between moments of "oh damn that feels good" to "omg! maybe I should tell her that f-ing hurts!". Girlfriend went deep! From my feet to my head I felt her strong hands and feet move along every muscle in my body. She walked up and down my back and legs, using the pole and towel above her head to measure the pressure and weight she exerted onto my sore muscles. It was full body- my body and her body! I felt her hands, feet, elbows, knees, forearms through out the massage. I was an active participant in moving into various positions so she could access muscles and pressure points. This explained why I was asked to change into black doctor scrubs before we started. Girlfriend was not shy about testing my obvious flexibility, bending me all kinds of ways- cracking, stretching and kneading her little heart out. We ended with her underneath me, her feet against my back and me in a back bend! Yeah- Thai massage is a huge departure from traditional massage. I LOVED it! The place was very dark and relaxing- Zen music playing throughout. The massage beds were semi private. They are sorta like large dressing rooms separated by black curtains on all sides so no one can see you during your treatment or when you are changing, however, you can hear what's going on along the hall and in the rooms. I know this cuz there was a man totally snoring at one point. His massage obviously wasn't as active as mine was! Price was great! They had a special going on $40 for 60 min. I checked in on Yelp and a 20% offer came up, so if you visit Anjalee, check in for deals before you pay. Over all, I'd say this place rocked! Located on Polk St. in Russian Hill, you can easily find meter parking along the street. After wards, on your way back to the car, enjoy a Boba from Quickly. That's what we did anyway... xo **Note my tendency to adore tragic movies, sad songs, very spicy foods, and most ALL of my past relationships :) read more

Got an INCREDIBLE 90 minute Thai massage last night with Ann. Having been to Thailand twice and a regular massage-goer, I am a complete massage snob and extremely particular about pressure, ambiance, technique, cleanliness, etc (you name it, and I've got an opinion). This place is a gem and just wish that it was in the Mission and closer to home. Ann was amazing. She worked on my glutes, hamstrings, quads, and psoas for about an hour and I finally feel relieved from my running/boot camp pains. I had tried everything from a foam roller to yoga to a bad massage, but she did the trick! I highly recommend this place and already booked an appointment for next Monday. read more

My wife and I went here for our first Thai massage. We had read the Anjalee reviews here and had some idea of what to expect, and that was PAIN (the good kind). We had both been having a fair amount of issues with lower back, shoulders, etc, so we figured we would give it a try. Thankfully, they were also able to fit us in on short notice on a Friday morning. The other reviews are spot on, this is not a massage for the faint of heart. They advised us to start with Medium strength for our first massage, but to not hesitate to tell our masseuse if the pressure was too heavy or too light. We went for 90 minutes, and there were several moments where I was gritting my teeth (admittedly, I never asked the masseuse to ease up). In the end, I felt about an inch taller, and much less knotted up. Mission accomplished. read more

Very clean and modern facility, excellent traditional Thai massage, and friendly staff. I picked up a couple of Bloomspot offers ($30 for a traditional Thai massage valued at $55) and came here with my bf. The ladies opened the curtains between us so that it was more of a couple-like atmosphere. Before my masseuse began, she asked me if I had any surgeries, or any body-related concerns like that. She also asked what massage pressure I preferred, and if there were any areas I wanted her to focus on. However, keep in mind that my bf's masseuse didn't ask him any questions prior to and throughout his massage. He just let her know when to adjust the pressure. This Thai massage wasn't as intense as one I have had before but I felt like it was a very thorough massage and the stretches were my favorite part! The massage was for an hour and it actually felt longer which was great. Like some other reviews note, since Anjalee is small and the reception area is right in front of the massage space, you can hear people checking-in at the front desk and the microwave which can take away from the relaxation you are trying to achieve here. Hopefully Anjalee can do something about the noise, but regardless, with or without a discount, I will be returning. read more

My cousin & I bought an offer from Bloomspot: $30 for a traditional Thai massage (originally $55). We were able to make an appointment within a week, which was PERFECT! All other places with deals sometimes are so booked out that you have to wait a month or more for an appointment. I was a bit skeptical because I didn't know how it'd compare to a previous thai massage at another location, but with the great reviews on Yelp, I decided to give it a try. Our appointments were at 2pm. I suggest arriving 10-15min beforehand so you can fill out the form. When we actually got in the massage area, it was about 2:05pm. I did check the clock at the end & it was 3:05pm...so they did go the full hour (thank you!). The employees opened the middle curtain in between my cousin & me. I mean, we didn't speak to each other, but I guess that's cool since we came together. The massage was GREAT! Very very very strong pressure..but that's a thai massage. After all was said & done..the intense pressure was worth it, haha! I felt soooo relaxed afterwards. Just what I needed. It's a small location & the massage spaces are located a couple feet from the front door. You can hear when the front door opens & when people are checking in. Didn't bother me too much, but I can see how it could be an issue for others. Clean. Friendly staff. Metered parking around. Make sure to bring coins! I enjoyed my massage. Two days after my appointment, the offer was still available, so I bought another one! :) I haven't used it yet, but I definitely will soon. read more

mmmhhhh, I fell for the promotional rate. But the lady that helped me was really bad. I don't think she really knows what she does. IF YOU WANT A SERIOUS THAI MASSAGE, GO HERE. How serious, you ask? Well, let's just say, I think they used the Thai equivalent of Tiger Balm / Icy Hot on my shoulders, they were THAT intent on working out my knots. (Stuff in the little bottle looked like Tiger Balm but had Thai writing all over it. Doesn't smell as bad.). So if you're looking for a zen-like spa experience, look elsewhere. But if you want a Hurt-So-GOOOOD, Attack-Those-Darned-Knots-In-The-Jugular type of massage, read on. I called and received a same day appointment for an hour long Traditional Thai Massage. No issues making the appointment. I confirm what other reviewers have noted: - Tiny reception - Fantastic deals right now (I received further discount for paying cash) - You can hear other people. I was right next to their breakroom, so I heard the door opening, people chatting, microwaves beeping, etc. And here is why I give them 5 stars: The massage was fantastic. My masseuse knew exactly how much pressure to apply to all parts of my body. She really focused on my shoulders as requested (went to town on them actually). There were times I thought she was definitely using her hands since she was applying such targeted pressure, only to realize a few minutes later no, she's standing on me, there's no way she could apply this much pressure with her hands. She punched me, stepped on me, elbowed me, twisted my body this was and that, made my bones crack, and I loved every second of it. Best of all, it didn't feel like an hour! (I was actually afraid they were going over). Lastly, the masseuse was really sweet. I have issues with sweating profusely (hands and feet sweat like crazy, especially at the beginning of a massage) and she just laughed it off and continued working. I don't know where she has all that power in her tiny frame, but she was awesome. Definitely going back! read more
