This place is clean, organized and HONEST!! I booked online while out and about & they called to confirm. When I got there they were flexible with what I wanted and what they thought would be best. I had Jenny who worked out my knots and adjusted when necessary. But this is where I can't say enough good things. I took my wedding rings off and one accidentally fell into the trash and I didn't see it happen! I realized after I walked back to the hotel one of them was missing. I WAS FRANTIC! I ran back and asked them to please look. Jenny found it in the trash. I was so relieved for her HONESTY and INTEGRITY. I hugged that woman, thanked her profusely and tipped her with more cash. First time visiting, it was an expensive Thai massage place. I booked a deep tissue massage but it felt like a Swedish massage. I asked her 4 times to go harder but it was still very light. It felt like a lot of rubbing, no deep acupuncture points. I have a lot of knots in my shoulders and I asked her to go harder to help get the knots out but she used mainly forearms all over the body, not a lot of hands, fingers or elbows. Every massage therapist I've seen at this place has been excellent. My latest favorite is Sandy since Jenny is not there anymore sadly. Sandy has incredibly strong hands so very therapeutic. She does the entire body so be forewarned and not feel awkward about your buttocks getting massaged. It's just another muscle and part of your leg and is therapeutic. I usually get the deep tissue, but she ties in a little bit of Thai massage also. The spa itself is calm, clean, pleasant and very conveniently located near Fisherman's wharf for visitors and San Franciscans alike. Price is very reasonable for that great a massage. read more

Was desperate for a massage last weekend when I visited SF (forgot walking those HILLS) will do a number on ya! Was seeking a deep tissue + foot massage and happened to see this spot close to my hotel. The desk attendant who answered suggested I opt for a 90min massage ($168) to save some $, and which I could then customize however I wanted - just advise my therapist. Cue Tony for my session who was no-nonsense and certainly provided pain relief...via DEEP tissue manipulations (using elbows, feet, etc.) if you're familiar with Thai massages you'll know many times it's less relaxation and more getting to the root of the problem. But let's just say when he asked if "hard" was my pressure preference and I said yes without much thought - in retrospect, I should have equated it to how we gauge spicy vs. "Thai spicy" when it comes to their food (ha)! He still did check in a few times but this sort of massage is definitely not for the weak. I did snooze a few times throughout my massage, so I know it was likely doing the trick, even despite muscle pain. I kept my bottom underwear on (for this 'combo' massage; be prepared for brusque movements like him tucking the sheet in my underwear - I'm not shy when it comes to that and it wasn't creepy in any sense, more just...no-nonsense. Just as a heads up if you happened to not be accustomed to that. I have to admit, a day or so later, definitely felt the positive impacts of this session. But just be forewarned, again, not for the faint of heart (or those accustomed to a more 'spa'-like experience). Overall, pleased with the experience, and also liked that this facility is clean and seems quite well-kept Also, courtesy service during booking, which I appreciated, especially given last minute appointment. read more

I've been here several times and only fully enjoyed my experience once when the staff was at the front desk and heated up the sauna to the right before I arrived at the appointment. Massage was decent, the masseuse did a nice job opening up movement in my hips in a way I hadn't prior experienced. The atmosphere was...off. I didn't really expect to hear so much road noise, cell phone conversations of people walking by outside, while receiving a $120 massage. Any sort of sound proofing, or even a token attempt at atmosphere would have really improved the experience. I guess I could deal with that all, I mean I was only there because I was in so much pain and having a lot of difficulty walking. I really wanted to set my body on the right course to recovery, get in an UBER and go home and lay down. Unfortunately, the front desk failed to inform me until AFTER the massage, that it was cash only, apparently the credit card system wasn't working. I had to cross the busy street out front, find my way into the hotel, ask the front desk there where the ATM was, and pay a total of $9 in ATM fees on top. I had to do this TWICE because the front desk massage person didn't properly inform me of how much I had to pay. They also tried to hold my debit card as collateral (as they forced me to go find an ATM, I didn't want to leave without paying) and I had to explain to them that I needed my card to use the ATM. Keep in mind I was having a lot of difficulty walking and that's why I went in for the massage in the first place. It was basically entirely undone by the stress of the payment debacle and having to drag my aching foot across the street and into the hotel twice. There was no apology or consideration for this and I made sure to tell the next people waiting that they would have to have cash ready. They looked as surprised as I was, and thanked me. Ultimately, any benefits from the massage were completely undone by the complete lack of consideration from the front desk, particularly when it came to payment. I can understand a point-of-sale device malfunctioning, I worked in hospitality for nearly 20 years. But, if you know about this all day, and fail to inform people until after services have been rendered, you are setting everyone up for a bad time. I could barely afford this anyway, and the $9 ATM fee on top was just insult to injury. I should have asked them to reimburse me. read more

I made reservations here for two hour massages one with the hot stones, and mines the Ashiatsu aka the walking on the back at 3pm so we get here about 2:45pm Dane H. the staff who checked us in stated since I made the appointment for 3pm we would have to wait, the 16 min. wait seems like forever, so I check In while waiting, well will you look at this a coupon from Yelp for a 10% discount for any 90 min. services, so I ask her If I could use it she stated it has to be with a single service which I think is kinda dumb. So two massage each one is $109.00 each for 60 mins. 120 mins. $218.00 plus each therapist $15.00 each grand total $248.00, now if she was a nice and caring person and would have show me just an ounce of compassion and gave me my 10% off I would have save $21.80. Plus I have received so many massage that cost less and received a full bottle of water with the cap on, but here at Royal Thai Spa for your hard earn money that give a measly 3 oz cup of water. Came for a Thai body massage 90 min and it was great! Montiya gave deep pressure which I preferred. However, I docked a star because I didn't come out of it feeling refreshed and relaxed. I almost felt the same. Throughout the massage, she really worked on my legs but I felt that my tension was mostly in my shoulders and upper torso. I should have voiced more concern but I only asked her once to do my shoulders again. Other massage places I've gone to have noticed the tension in my upper body and spend a lot of time kneading the muscle. The prices are reasonable and the facility is nice & clean, but there are a few things that keep me from returning: * The communication barrier can be dangerous. I came in with my wife, who has a knee injury, and she was very clear about the injury and that they should be careful. The therapist shook his head in seeming understanding, then later grabbed her ankle to vigorously shake her leg, and when she yelped out in pain, he said "I know, I know". For folks with back injuries, a communication barrier could be a major issue with Thai massage. * They seem to conflate Swedish massage with gentleness, and will charge you for a deep tissue massage if you want a firm Swedish massage. read more

Honestly one of the best massages I've ever had in my life. Tony (I think that was his name) did a Thai deep tissue and walked all over me getting all my nasty knots out. It was pure torture but heaven! My friend had Sandy and loved her too! If you don't want it super hard they will lighten up but I was THRILLED it was that deep. Afterwards we did the infrared sauna. I booked a Cryo session followed by a 90-minute deep tissue Thai massage. This review is based solely on the massage I received. I cannot tell yet if the Cryo session was effective, but the therapist, Lenny, was so professional and friendly. We chatted during the whole session, and he kept checking in to make sure I was comfortable. After my session was over, I was moved into another room for my massage. At that point, I was prepared to give this place 5 stars based on Lenny's service alone. But then things took a turn... My therapist, Monthiya, came into the room and asked me to change into the clothes since I was getting a deep tissue Thai massage. They had a clock on the wall, which I made sure to look at when we started. When she returned, the clock read 1:30. Within a few minutes of starting my massage, she immediately left the room. I thought it was odd since she just started massaging me, but I let it go since she returned a few minutes later. She started working on me again, and I was waiting for the deep tissue portion to start. I think she was having challenges getting into my knots, understandably so, because it has been a while since my last massage. But isn't that the job of a masseuse? I've had deep tissue and Thai massages many times, so I know what they feel like. After trying for 5-10 minutes, she left the room AGAIN. Then when she returned, she apologized saying that she needed to get her phone. I wondered why that was important. They typically ask that you silence your phones, and why would she need to have hers when she should be working on me, her client?? By the way, throughout my whole session, she got text messages twice, and her phone wasn't on silent mode. A bit disruptive in my opinion... She started massaging me again, and then asked me to remove my bra, which they typically let you keep on when you are wearing the Thai clothes. But I obliged since she was having challenges massaging me. At that point, guess what, she got up and left the room yet AGAIN. I lifted my head to find out what was happening, and there were 2 people standing outside my room. I think they needed to talk to her. When she returned about 5 minutes later, she didn't even apologize. At this point, it had been maybe 30 minutes in. I hadn't really had any true massage at that point. It was far from relaxing. And of course, it was start, stop, start, stop, start, stop. As she started to massage me, she asked me if I wanted her to use oils on me so that it would be easier for her to massage me. She said she could use oils for 30 minutes. I reluctantly agreed since she seemed to be struggling with massaging me. I thought this would part of the 90 minute massage I had originally booked. She didn't tell me there would be a separate charge for this. She had to leave the room to get the oils (I lost count of how many times she had left the room at that point) but surprisingly she returned within a couple of minutes. She started using the oils, and I can't say it helped any. Although it made it easier for her to work on me, I still didn't get the deep tissue experience I would have expected. And she certainly didn't use the oils for 30 minutes. About an hour in, she asked me to flip so she could work on my front. After she finished, I looked at the clock, and it was 2:55. So I didn't get my full 90 minutes. Some people who read this review might think that it was only 5 minutes short. However, when you factor in that she left the room a bunch of times and was gone for several minutes each time, I doubt I got more than one total hour of massage - and that wasn't even one hour uninterrupted! Instead of feeling relaxed, knot-free, or refreshed, I was frustrated. I changed and went out to pay. They charged me one hour of "deep tissue Thai" and then 30 minutes of aromatherapy massage. Again, I didn't get one hour of deep tissue Thai nor did I get 30 minutes of aromatherapy. My biggest issue with massage places is when they don't give you the full time you pay for, especially when you show up on time and even more so, when the therapist leaves the room a bunch of times! I also feel that the 30 minute aromatherapy add was a little "bait-and-switchy" from my perspective. Despite my bad experience, I gave her a 20% cash tip. Not sure why I did given how unprofessional she was. The one positive was that she very sweet and friendly which makes this review even that more disappointing. I hope that Lenny and Monthiya read this review and change how they administer their massages. read more

Sumi worked her magic. This was one of the best (if not the best) 60 minute Thai massages I've ever had. Prices are a little high, but it is San Francisco. The spa lacks a little in ambiance. Why 5 stars? Because it was hilariously convenient. --- --- --- When I arrived into town for a few days, I noticed this spa because it was located next door to my hotel. I knew I'd be working during the daytime, but hoped I could get in a massage by the end of my stay here. My plan on my last day was to grab an early dinner so that I could get an appointment before they closed at 9p. Unfortunately, my day did not go exactly according to plan and I found myself walking out of dinner at around 8p with about a 30 minute walk to my hotel & the spa. I looked online and the only thing I could reserve was a 30 minute massage, so I figured I'd throw a hail mary and call to see if by any chance I could schedule an hour. It turned, I was in luck! She scheduled me for an hour massage at 8:30, which was just the amount of time I needed to pop in my hotel, change and get to the spa. My massage was very good. The therapist checked in with me a few times to make sure that the pressure was good - and it always was. I never had to ask her for more or less because she had it down perfectly. It was definitely a bit pricier than most, but when you're able to get an 8:30p massage next door to your hotel, you tend to not care about the cost as much. And for those who are also staying at the Marriott and considering a massage, I actually counted 107 steps from the doorway of this studio to my bed on the 2nd floor. Got a Groupon for coolsculpting and it was very inexpensive. Had a couple of problems with the scheduling at first but it worked out in the end. You need to set up an appointment online and input your credit card. This will hold your reservation. You will need to book at least a week in advance to get the time slot you want. Cheryl is very sweet and is very informative. She made the treatment pretty smooth. You won't see results right away. It takes about a few weeks. My boyfriend got a thai massage here and he felt great after. Yes, it comes with a hefty price tag but it is worth it. The masseuse went over the right spots and was able to get out the kinks. I was excited to come here with my friend after reading these ravings reviews but within seconds of walking in, I knew I was going to be let down. To keep it short- the noise level is far from relaxing, the employees speak to each other with no concern of quietness, my session was interrupted several times with employees coming in to talk to my masseuse, and now waking up the day after my massage, I'm covered in purple and green bruises around my lower back and my shoulders are in indescribable pain. Worst massage I've ever had. Asked many many times for the massage to go deeper. The masseuse was awful, wouldn't listen to anything I asked. They were very rude when I asked for a deeper massage, pushy, and then argued me with me about it that I didn't tell them to please go deeper. They also told us one price and then tried to charge us more at the end. When asked about it they called the manager who was not here for the massage and was also rude and told us that it was too bad.
