STAY AWAY FROM here :{ Literally the worst massage experience ever. I don't know if it was a language barrier or a lack of empathy. Or overall evil! I came out of here, bruised and in terrible pain. This was nothing less of torture, not a MASSAGE! For some reason, she would put knuckle pressure in the back of my knees, where absolutely nobody needs pressure. And to top it all off, she spent 30 minutes, rubbing, severely squeezing and putting extreme pressure with elbow on my left arm, which I have severe bruising and pain from now. I kept telling her that was enough and to Please move to another part of my body because she was causing me pain and she would not care at all. I felt helpless. She was wearing sunglasses, which was super odd. Overall, this place needs serious evaluation! I have bruises another parts of my body, but my arm is a main part that hurts the most.. I came out of town from Chicago looking to relax and have a nice experience, but never again!! I can't take SF massage parlors seriously. I made a last minute appointment at 6 pm that they were able to accept it. I walked in and I was the only one there. The lady asked me which areas to focus on and if I wanted oil. This massage is not for the weak. She really applied pressure throughout my body and released all the knots. I did feel weightless after the massage. I also added a 30 min reflexology. I've been here twice in a week. I suffered a lower back injury a little over a year ago and suffer from chronic pain ever since. Pain meds, physical therapy, and yoga hasn't alleviated the pain. I tried cupping first which helped a bit but didn't do wonders. The therapeutic massage was by no means relaxing but when I got up, I could touch my toes without extreme pain for the first time in a very long time. She noted that the left side of my body was incredibly tight and focused on releasing that side of my body. While I'm still tight and feel pain, I feel significantly better after my session. Wow, I have nothing but good things to say about this massage parlor. I walked in with knots and tension all over my body, literally from neck to toes. Mina was my masseuse and I love that she went above and beyond to address my concerns. I emphasized where my trouble areas were, and she focused on those specific parts, plus more. I don't know how she did it, but through the use of her fingers, palms, elbows and hot stones, she kneaded every single muscle on my body, applying pressure where she needed to, in motions that were so fluid and comfortable it's crazy. Through her massage, I discovered other pains, and she gave me tips on what I can do on my own to provide relief. Mind you, this spot is not for the weak. If you walk in expecting soft and tingly touches, then go somewhere else. If you expect an all-white spa with warm fuzzy blankets and bunny rabbits, go somewhere else. This is a no bells or whistles joint where beds are separated by curtains, with staff who are here to get sh*t done. My massage was painful, but it had to be. Most importantly, I walked out feeling loosened up and refreshed. It was so good I added 30 minutes to my 1 hour massage and I promised myself to stop by each time I visit San Francisco! Been here twice now when the 9-5 be breaking my back. Both times I booked the 60 minute full body massage with the most recent one in April 2024 costing $80 pre tip. The massage definitely released a bunch of tension on my shoulders and lower back and left me feeling super relaxed. It's a somewhat no frills type of massage place, you're not getting your fancy diffuser or fragant massage oil. I didn't love how the massage tables are just separated by curtains as it was uncomfortable stripping while hearing other customers two feet away from you. read more

Jan Massage is FANTASTIC. I'll admit, I got first day jitters. You know the feeling, when you're all awkward and don't know what to do because you've never been before? That was me. A little hard to find but as long as you have your Google maps on, you'll be fine. It's on the lower level and keep following the soothing music. Definitely a different atmosphere than I was used to. This small room gets straight to the basics. There's maybe three massage beds separated by long curtains. So there's privacy, you just have to train your ear to ignore outside conversations since the door stays open. Very relaxing, hard pressure, for a back massage that's really a full body one for $60. It's worth it for sure. Definitely was ready to fall asleep as she worked out the kinks in my back. Wonderful. And they're so kind offering water before and after the massage as well as some candy! I've tried many different massage places located in Asian community centers all around the world. Jan Massage was on the surface kinda scary in its set up. It's located on the bottom level of the building right across the street from the Hotel Kabuki. There were no real signs saying notifying you that you've arrived at Jan Massage. You really just have to trust that the numbers are accurate. You check in at one location and walk to another room a few doors down where they've divided up the room with curtains. They offered a decent variety of massages as well as fire cupping. If you haven't tried fire cupping, it's worth a try. The descriptions for the massages are pretty basic so you'll need to explain to the ladies what you're looking for. We were in a couples room, but they do have individual curtained off area. One thing I will point out, the massage bed was very uncomfortable as I felt like my face was squished against two pillows. Post Covid, I'm more sensitive to the cleanliness of the space and this felt a little iffy to me. The massage itself was odd in that there was one lady working on my back and another one working on my foot. It lead to some confusion as to where to relax as one wasn't always complimentary to the other. That aside, I didn't leave feeling completely relaxed and for I believe was $80/hour, that was disappointing. Would I go back again, probably not but if you're in the area and you're in need of a massage, it might be worth a try. read more

I've been here twice now. I had a bad knot in my neck and general tightness around my back and shoulders. The first time, I got a 1 hour massage and cupping. Second time, just a 1 hour massage. Jan has great covid precautions, checking my temperature each time I came in. Wearing a mask during a massage was a little scary for me at first as I had trouble breathing, but after a few minutes my breathing adjusted and I felt okay. Jan found several knots and tight areas I wasn't aware of. I needed a high intensity massage and she was able to provide that. I like that she also uses a hot massage rock and coconut oil. Each time I got a massage here, I slept really well after... and I was sore the next day but it was worth it. The cupping was okay, but I don't think I'd try that again, I think just the deep tissue massage and heated massage rocks are most effective for me. Overall, I will definitely come back here, it's a good value for deep tissue massage and Jan has good intuition into which areas of the body need more focus. read more

I've gotten many massages over the years, at least monthly. This place was just horrible--not even passable for a cheap, get-the-job-done, hurts-so-good massage. This one legit hurt and left us feeling worse and misaligned. Hate to write a bad review, but the other Yelp reviews steered us so wrong. My masseuse massaged my bone with her forearm over and over again. Then she found a knot in my shoulder and dug into it without much technique or the finesse that you'd expect from a massage, pressing into it aggressively and without any sort of consistent movement. I was hoping this was a special acupressure technique of sorts, but I spent the next few days with an inflamed shoulder that didn't feel better once it went down. She even skipped some areas on the other side of my body, which felt weird and imbalanced when I eventually got up. When the massage ended with a mindless floppy slapping on only ONE side of my body, I knew this was just a waste of time. It was definitely rushed once the next customer came in early and waited. Because when I step out of Kabuki hotel and into the busy crowd of Asian restaurants, there's a hidden gem that's always left me extremely satisfied. Given my tight schedule when traveling, I've never had the luxury of choosing a "go-to" therapist, so I've tried a variety of therapists here and they've all truly been excellent. They've always understood my needs and made sure to address them. It was almost as if I was visiting my family doctor and they were looking at my records. Their cupping is a must-try if you have muscle issues. I have sore muscles because I don't stretch enough when I work out and I find that their deep tissue massage and cupping combo relieve my muscles well. Their clean atmosphere, well-regulated temperatures, and soothing background music definitely add to their pleasing experience. I've been wanting to get a message for a long time. Why not do it while on a quick vacation? I made a last minute request online to book 90 minute massages for my friend and I and received a response very quickly, confirming the reservation. Couldn't find directions to the place and missed it initially due to people crowding the entranceway as they eagerly awaited seats in neighboring restaurant, Dae Ho. They're located on the basement level all the way down the hall. Our massages started pretty standard, but after 15 to 20 minutes I began to wonder if they were going to close the door... but nope. They left it open the whole time and honestly felt a little awkward that all that separated me was a curtain as people walked by. It was also incredibly distracting as conversations down the hall carried on and people continued to speak loudly and opened and closed doors throughout our whole massage. It was so noisy and not the relaxing experience I had envisioned at all. The massage itself left a lot to be desired. I wanted them to focus on my shoulders, neck, & lower back. Lower back didn't get much attention and my shoulders oh my... I was bruised up the next day. I almost tapped out in pain and dreaded every time she rubbed the bone directly vs. the muscle. Eeeep. There was no real technique or flow to the massage. I didn't want to say anything as I didn't want to ruin my friend's experience who was getting a massage as well. Wish I could say better things, but it wasn't the experience I had hoped for. I get the no frills thing. I just wanted a good massage. I'm really surprised at all the good ratings. The positive? I love that you can make an appointment, but they are also able to accommodate walk-ins -- even on weekends -- which works perfectly with my schedule. Old school Asian foot massage place tucked underground on the corner of post and Laguna. I couldn't find them like a dummy because Google left me at the street level but if you go inside the building and take the steps down to suite 103 then you are in the right place. I called ahead and made appts. Mae and her friend took great care of us for the 30 min foot massage. The first 5-7 min is soaking your feet in hot water with Chinese medicine but once that's done the actual massage starts. Totally worth 35$! read more

Read below for an actual description of the massage before being disappointed too. I've had dozens of massages at various locations. For any full-body massage establishment I've ever visited the basics are: get undressed (nude or underwear at your discretion), lay on a flat massage bed with a hole+cushion for your face, get lathered up with something by the masseuse, close your eyes and hope it lasts forever. The good ones have hot rocks and other nice touches. The lower budget ones might do hot towels. This place is different. When I arrived I was told "no oil, okay?" - which seemed odd so I asked if I had a choice. I didn't, so I went along with it. I entered a small room with a computer and a few massage "areas" separated by thin curtains and found an inclined massage table with my name on it. I was told to keep all my clothes on. I had a dress shirt on with an undershirt so I said I would take that off at least. Long story short: what you're getting is a massage over your clothes, over a sheet. I had asked for work on my mid-back which was on fire after a heavy workout the day before. Instead of getting relief from the pain, I was massaged laying on my side on the weird inclined table so that it actually created more tension with the unnatural position. There didn't seem to be any focus at all on the area I had pointed out before we started. Rather than complain or be stingy, I gave a solid 33% tip and thanked them - but I won't be back. I'm leaving 2 stars because 1 stars are reserved for really nasty people and/or nightmare experiences. This didn't live up to the hype, wasn't good, and wasn't even decent for the price. But the people were reasonably pleasant and I wish them well. read more

Huge fan of this place. I actually enjoy it so much I go ever other week bc the prices are pretty good and for the quality of the massage it's way cheaper than other places. I've gotten massages from a few of the different therapists, all are super good! I also get the cupping massage which is amazing. I highly recommend if you haven't gotten that before, it's not painful but also not pleasant. But after it's over you few amazing. Highly worth it. One thing to note is that this place is pretty straightforward and doesn't have a lot of the bells/whistles of high end places. Great place for a massage. Simple, clean place that gets you into that calm frame of mind. The warm tea soothes your throat while waiting. I got the Swedish massage and it was truly relaxing. The massage therapist did my massage was so good that I even book her for my next visit in 2 weeks. She was patient, asked questions and worked her way gradually to focus on your overworked muscles. I normally tip 20% for my massages, but this time I almost doubled that to show how much I appreciated her work! I will definitely recommend them to all my friends!
