I have experienced several treatments at this spa, and most recently, I indulged in a 90-minute deep tissue massage with Kwan, who was absolutely fantastic. She is incredibly experienced and a true body worker. For those who understand the difference between a standard massage and genuine body work, you will know exactly what I mean. Kwan truly saved me; I was completely relieved of the unbearable stiff neck pain that had nearly prevented me from moving my neck and sleeping. Today, I chose a 60-minute deep tissue massage combined with a lymphatic facial, with Cindy as my therapist since Kwan specializes exclusively in body work and does not perform facials. Cindy is also an exceptional body worker; she intuitively worked out all my knots and kinks, much like Kwan. The facial was fantastic and incredibly relaxing. Having never experienced a lymphatic facial before, I can confidently recommend it. I want to emphasize that this spa, including all its locations, excels in customer service. They ensure that you receive excellent care and genuinely care about meeting and exceeding your expectations. Additionally, their pricing is very fair, and they offer packages that make treatments even more affordable. As someone who firmly believes in the benefits of regular body work, this is fantastic, especially since I live just two blocks from their North Beach location. I will undoubtedly be returning again and again. read more

I usually pick my massages based on what the deals that are out there. I got a great deal to visit this new place from bloomspot. Setting up the appointment was really easy. I told the scheduler that I'm athletic and was hoping for someone who was experienced working with athletes. He gave me a suggestion quickly indicating that he was pretty comfortable with the massage therapists. As soon as I entered Project Zen, I understood why their name is Zen; it was so calm and peaceful, warm and inviting. The front desk spoke in whispers with warm smiles. Lots of thought and detail went into the decor. The massage was great and my masseuse was thorough. He went over my intake form in detail and we discussed what I wanted out of the massage. He then talked briefly about how he plots out the massage, which I appreciated. He encouraged me to vocalize my comfort concerning pressure and followed up by asking several times during the massage about my comfort. My only complaint about Project Zen is that the massage room was shared with another client and masseuse. The room was separated with a curtain. I felt kinda uncomfortable hearing them on the other side and there was definitely some awkwardness. Not a deal-breaker, but hopefully something that is on their "to do" list. read more

So I booked their Zen Day package here, and I was blown away. I was greeted by a super friendly receptionist and the smell of zen. Seriously, it smells so refreshing. I wasn't quite sure what I was in for, but I was pampered from beginning to end for the entire 3 hours. First my feet were poked with a funny little stick, then I was twisted and stepped on, and finally I was massaged with some delicious smelling steamed pouches. It all sounds very strange, but it was the best massage experience I have ever had. I have had many Thai massages before, though this was my first time for the foot reflexology and the herbal press. I will be back for sure. Especially because I ended up buying one of their packages. (Pro tip: they are doing a crazy special on those this month). Anyway, I love boutique places like this. It's a little smaller inside than it looks on the website, but they utilize the place well and manage to make it feel cozy rather than cramped. Looking forward to my next appointment. read more

I had a couples massage done here to surprise my boyfriend, and everything went exactly as planned. The massage therapists greeted us, offered us slippers and some tea (which has never been offered to me at other businesses) and showed us to our room which was very clean and nicely laid out for the both of us to get changed and place our belongings safely nearby. There were multiple layers of sheets and blankets in case we needed it, and I was pleasantly surprised with the heated massage table. (AWESOME!) To speak to the massage therapist's competency, she discussed a visual diagram of my body and clarified how much pressure was desired in which areas.. She basically put me to sleep twice and I caught myself drooling a few times because I was so relaxed - which is difficult for me because I usually don't like being naked around strangers. Definitely recommend this place for couples massages or one for yourself if you want an experience that is catered towards you. read more

I've been here a few times but just haven't gotten around to reviewing the place. Nice ambience, people are friendly. As soon as you enter the place, you check in, fill out a quick form if it's your first time and change into comfortable flip flops. I got the Thai massage and had EM as my therapist. I'm a big fan of high pressure massage, and he was able to work on my shoulders and get the knots out. He was able to make me feel comfortable and guide my body into different stretches, exposing the tense areas and really work on releasing the stress of my back, neck, and shoulders. I had no idea that I was pretty flexible. Very good technique, and I appreciated that he checked in regarding the pressure. I've never had a massage in Thailand but I'm pretty sure it's pretty close to what it would this would be close. If you want a different experience from the regular running massage, book with EM. I'm definitely coming back again. : ) read more

Christie is the real deal! At first I had scheduled a 60 minute Deep Tissue but quickly realized my body needed more and changed it to 90 minutes. My neck, shoulders, lower back and left hamstring had all been bothering me and I apologized to Christie in advance for the workout she was going to get. I'm not going to lie, at times it was beyond intense, especially when she was really getting into my neck but breathing and knowing I was in good hands helped me get through it. My knots had knots and I've had other massages where the therapist just focuses on those main issues but Christie managed her time in a way that my whole body got worked on, even areas where other therapists don't go like my pecs and forearms. It was a painful experience but also relaxing in a weird way; I have always enjoyed my therapists at Project Zen and I would definitely try to schedule another appointment with Christie. read more

I purchased a Living Social deal without having heard or read anything about Project Zen. My last Thai massage was two years ago in Thailand so I was itching for a good one. My entire experience with Project Zen was great from booking an appointment to sipping my green tea, post massage. I accidentally thought my appointment was an hour earlier than what was actually scheduled and they offered to move my appointment to save me a trip back home. This is the BEST Zen experience ever. Yes, it's small... so don't expect a full spa with all the amenities. For that, go to Kabuki. But if you're looking for some serious bodywork, you can tell it's really their focus. My boyfriend and I got the best massages ever there. The place smells amazing, and they talk in a whisper. I stopped in here the other day on my way to Trader Joes, and decided that I needed a massage more than I needed my groceries. I am an athlete and need regular bodywork to facilitate muscle repair between all of my vigorous running, climbing, and biking. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they offer Trigger Point on their menu. I've been coming here to get waxed for almost 3 years. The young lady does a very clean and fast job. I can't say its not painful, but I've gotten waxed at numerous different locations and I can say Pho Siam offers the least painful waxing. I love how theres calm classical music playing through out the spa; it helps my mind wander off to a less painful place (lol!). They offer a hot towel afterwards for you to clean yourself with and when your about to leave they always hand you a bottle of water and a small piece of candy. The facilities are clean and staff and are polite. My masseuse was named Bryan. He was excellent and listened to my concerns and needs. I would definitely recommended this place to others.

I had such a great experience here! I booked a 30-minute neck and shoulder massage, and honestly,…read moreit exceeded my expectations. My therapist Nina was incredibly thorough! Not only did she focus on my neck and shoulders, but also spending time working through my arms and back, which I didn't even realize needed it until she did. She ended the session with hot stones, which felt amazing, and even placed a warm, essential oil-infused towel over my eyes. Such a relaxing touch that made the whole experience feel elevated and thoughtful! My only complaint is that I wish I had booked a longer session because it went by way too quickly! I'll definitely be coming back and opting for more time next visit.

Hands down (pardon the pun) the very best Thai Massage in the city. I have been going to Anjalee…read morefor years. The practitioners that I have seen are highly skilled, and very intuitive to know where to focus during the session. This is not going to be a massage like you would get at Massage Envy, where you are laying on a table and your body being attended to in quarters. Anjalee really holds true to classic Thai Massage, and they will walk on you, twist you, knead you, and rotate you, use their elbows, heels. If you are looking for a very serene and tranquil massage, this is not it. They read your ailments like a book and work their magic in order to make you feel better. You will wear a very thin shirt and pants and it's a dry massage. You can ask for Tiger Balm or lotion, but this isn't a massage where you're all lathered up in oil. This is a place of skilled therapists, that intuitively gauge what areas they should be focusing on, even if that means foregoing other areas; which is fine by me. I personally don't need my forearm massaged if they can concentrate on another area that's actually causing me distress. You can let them know upfront what your preference is in terms of pressure, and also areas to avoid. This business operates on the most professional levels, is immaculately clean, and is a peaceful environment. It by far is one of my favorite treasures in San Francisco.

I booked the 90-minute combo Thai and Swedish massage, and it felt neither here nor there. The flow…read morewas chaotic -- techniques kept changing abruptly, and what was done on one side often didn't match the other. My husband had the same service and felt the same. The one saving grace (and why I'm giving three stars) was the pressure -- strong and consistent. But the technique was lacking. The space is beautiful, clean, and relaxing, but the therapists don't seem well-trained, and the service didn't live up to the setting.
