I purchased a Groupon for a 90-minute sports massage and tried to use their online booking portal to make an appointment. I found the perfect date/time, booked it, and received a confirmation email, only to get a text message from the owner shortly thereafter informing me that the appointment time I chose wasn't actually available and that I would have to pick another. OK....I found another time that worked for me about two weeks out. Fast forward a couple days, I get yet another text message telling me that the second appointment -- which was again confirmed by email -- was no longer available. At that point, I gave up trying and sought a refund through Groupon -- not worth wasting any more time or energy. read more

For the last 3 weeks, my entire body has been feeling utterly messed up. No amount of stretching has helped.... SO, when I came back to SF, I decided that it was time for a massage. I sent Corinne a text (the best mode of communication, imo) and she scheduled me for the next morning. Corinne came outside to get me at the designated time. She is friendly, unpretentious, and does a good job at making you feel at ease. Her establishment is a clean, comfortable, and cute one room space. As a good masseuse should always do, she began by asking me what was bothering me, why, and whether I wanted a deep tissue massage (yes). She started on my back, and omgggg it hurt like CRAZY! But, I decided to sav it out rather than ask her to be more gentle. And I'm so glad I did -- when I came out, my back was COMPLETELY loosened up. No pains, no knots, no discomfort AT ALL. The best part was when she put hot towels on my back + neck, followed by some bengay-type application that seriously felt AMAZING. Then she worked on everything else, which was just as awesome. I have two minor complaints: [1] her phone went off a couple of times and [2] her neighbors were a tad loud. Nonetheless, I highly recommend Corinne. Came here with the Groupon. The massage itself was great. Very very intense and deep. I usually get a massage every 1-2 months just to keep everything cool from workouts. So this definitely helped. She used coconut oil which I am a big fan of. And after the intense massage in certain areas, she even put on some tiger balm. As for the bad, there are two points: 1) Scheduling is very hard as she communicates by text and email. When I asked for availability the response was usually "no" or "booked that day". No suggested alternatives. So it took about a week of emails and waiting to finally book a time. 2) I had to wait outside for 20 minutes before she was ready. You are at the mercy of her seeing your text message or email when you are there. So we started late and I noticed that when we finished I only had about 80 minutes instead of the 90 I paid for. Overall the massage itself is good and worth it. And she has some strong hands. If you don't mind waiting for an appointment and waiting outside with the possibility of starting late, it's not bad. But it isn't worth the hassle. I personally like places like East-West near Glen Park which have a website which you can schedule your appointment right there. Much easier. read more

They respond to your appointment-request text quickly, but the second you mention you have a Groupon they STOP RESPONDING TO YOU. Seriously. I came here the day after I ran the Nike Women's half Marathon. My muscles were hurting bad so I used Groupon Now to score a massage. She was very accommodating and nice, especially since I was 15 minutes late. There is only street parking and meters around here, so that was the only downfall. Her massage area is very small studio space, but it is spa-like and the music takes you away from the city sounds. Anyways she gave me a 60 minute deep tissue massage and really focused on my neck and shoulders, which are my problem areas. She also rubbed my aching legs, which were incredibly sore. It was very much like a Thai massage because she stretched me out. She also used hot towels to wipe the oils off at the end and put on some kind of menthol-y cream which reminded me of Icy-Hot. But my sore aching muscles loved it. I could tell she really worked hard because after the massage she was sweating hahah. But she did an amazing job. She also gave me ginger tea afterwards. Corinne gave me *the* best deep tissue massage of my life. I have recently moved back to the East Bay and have been scheming as to how I can get back to her table stat without having to make my way back to the EB via car or public transit. The only suitable mode of transport after one of these massages is probably that oversized bubble that Glinda the Good Witch travels in. Gentle and soundproof. The massage was very therapeutic and it took nearly a week for my habitually tense shoulders to return to their usual state of knottiness (when usually it's back in 24 hours). I walked out of that room in a daze that can only matched by that of prescription tranquilizers. It's a miracle I was able to drive myself home. I pride myself on being the type to restrain myself from moaning during massages but this was just too good not to. Seriously. Do realize that the deep tissue is truly a therapeutic massage... if that's not what you're into you'll want to pick another type of massage. I had no issues with the location... it is an interesting complex (google: ActivSpace) with small studio-like spaces that can be rented for "art, hobby and business." Actually quite cool. Yes, I could hear what sounded like a tutoring session next door but it's San Francisco. Quiet does not exist. It wouldn't stop me from coming back. Nice lady but I would have liked to know about the setup before going. I couldn't find the buzzer and was not told I had to text to get inside. I then went to Yelp and found this out, when I got stranded looking around the complex... Corinne has 1 tiny room. It's functional but I would think the regular price of a massage there should be $50 or less. Not $50 with a Groupon. There is no bathroom en suite. You'd have to go outside and find it in the complex. I didn't go. I think my skin got kind of raw from the concentrated massage on my back. And the strokes were kind of staccato and sometimes way too concentrated on one spot--ie: neck . Feedback: -Make the texting situation clear when booking appts -Lower your prices. $100 for a massage is definitely too much and for that, I'd go to a real spa. $50 is not a Groupon price.. it should be the full price! -A lot of people are not into religion. I've bought two 10 sessions, that's 20 sessions and I prefer 60minute sessions and on several occasions Ade would extend my session to a 90minute session without telling me. I have asthma and sinus issues and can't be face down for a long period of time. The price and location was right with the Groupon, so I booked a massage! The ambiance in the room was nice, a few too many crosses for my taste, but relaxing nonetheless. I was pretty uncomfortable the entire massage....she was going too hard, even after asking her a few times to ease up. Her strokes were not as free flowing like many other massages I have received. At one point I thought she was slapping my neck. Who slaps during a massage?! I guess if I was a die-hard massage goer and wanted an extrememly hard/rough massage, I would go back to her. I have a few points that I need to make, but first of all it was a great massage. I asked for a 1 1/2 hour deep tissue massage and it was one of the best I have ever had. I'm a big guy and I just recently drove all the way across the country so my lower back needed some TLC, and she did great. For such a small woman, Corrinne has VERY strong hands and she is not afraid to go "deep tissue" on me. Most of the time it was just a little bit shy of painful, which is just what I needed. Her workspace is tiny, kept very warm on purpose, and it smells great (very relaxing). There is a security gate outside, adjacent to a cafe, and I had to call her in order for her to come downstairs and let me in. The workspace is located in a seedy part of the city known as "The Mission District" and it is ugly in places. This is Skid Row at night and there are bums sleeping on the sidewalk nearby. Unfortunately this is a fact of life in San Francisco and Corinne is not responsible for it. During the day, younger people who bathe regularly and have jobs come out so the whole energy changes for the better. If you can bring a friend to drop you off and then pick you up later so that you don't have to worry about your car being broken into. I had much the same experience with scheduling as others have said here on Yelp. Corinne needs to either employ someone to handle her scheduling or she needs to just do it better. It was frustrating for me to make an appointment and then show up and find that she forgot the appointment. We had some terse words but she apologized and all was OK after that. Like I said, the massage itself was wonderful. Once she sorts out all of these issues then the complaints will stop. I highly recommend Corinne, and I will go back. Hands down my most favorite massage experience to date! I grabbed a Groupon on my birthday and quickly scheduled a massage. Corrine replied soon after and I was on my bike over. I was so nervous I would be late I actually left my cell phone on my bike seat. She came down to greet me and lead me up to her parlor. The room was warm and smelled nice, with soft music playing. We discussed a bit about what I wanted her to focus on and then she left the room and I got ready. SO relaxing! She used just enough massage oil on each portion of my body and before moving on to the next area, she massaged with peppermint oil, so I had a coolign sensation to release any left over tension. Corrine is a real professional, very skilled and sensitive to the clients requests. Also, my cell phone was grabbed by the girl at the coffee shop downstairs! I bought the Livingsocial deal for a massage with Corinne. I was incredibly pleased by the job she did. I am incredibly stressed, so the massage hurt a little bit, but it was well worth it. She was able to work out some of those knots I had, and the warm towels, mixed with the icy hot message was truly amazing. Corinne is the only massage therapist here, and the place is quaint, but really relaxing. She sets up the room to be warm and welcoming for her clients. I really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. It is difficult to find- but she comes out to meet you downstairs so that makes it a little bit easier. Since it is just Corinne, I would recommend that you contact her via text or e-mail. I first went to Corrine after I bought the Livingsocial offer and was thinking of getting the aromatherapy massage instead of the deep tissue. I'll be honest... I don't like deep tissue massages. In fact, my previous experiences with deep tissue massage were by accident, horrible and painful. I would hurt more than when I went in!! I ended up with the 90min deep tissue massage. It hurt but it hurt good this time. She worked out ALL of my knots and tightness. She even found parts of my back that I didn't think were sore that need her touch!! She then started working on my legs and they were sore too! She wipes down the areas she massages with these wonderfully hot towels and gives a quick rub. Then she adds tiger balm so you get the hot sensation followed by a cooling sensation!!! After 90 minutes, I was relaxed and mellow! I think I may have even doozed off!! She informed me of a package of 3 massages. I regretted not purchasing it because a week later my back was a mess again and the first thing I thought of was Corrine!!! So I texted her and set up the appointment. I just saw Corrine for the 2nd time last week. My back was such a mess that she spent majority of the 1hr on my back alone. Boy did I need it though. I'm going back in a couple of weeks hoping that my back won't be such a big mess or one big knot!!! Because of Corrine, I'm now a fan of deep tissue massages! Corrine gave probably the best deep tissue massages that I've had, and I'm usually not a big fan of deep tissue massage. She applied the right amount of pressure and didn't make it a personal goal of hers to tear up your muscles like some people who give unpleasant deep tissue massage sessions. I'm sure if you're into a more intense deep tissue massage session, you can simply advise her. The end of the one hour session finished with a soothing cup of ginger honey tea. I noticed she offers multiple session bundled offers for new or existing clients, make sure to inquire about that to save a few bucks. Regarding communication, I only communicated through text messages and the majority of her responses were within minutes! Without LivingSocial, I wouldn't have found Corrine and would contemplate coming back if I'm in the area. And when you do come to Shalomtouch for your massage, it seems like it's best to meet on the corner of 18th St and Treat Ave, and she'll come to the street level to take you in. It's clear she's a one-woman shop, so there was limited communication confirming my appointment and instructions on where to meet her. She has a small room in a large industrial complex - inside, the ambiance is warm and calming. I asked her to focus on my shoulders and lower back. She did exactly that, but her deep tissue technique resulted in one of the most painful massages I've ever had. I'm used to Thai massages with hard pressure, but this one was extremely uncomfortable. I asked her to ease up on her pressure in 3 different areas. She also spent a ton of time on my neck which feels very tender today. It looks like this is an effective massage for a lot of people. Got a living social deal, but wouldn't go back even if it was free. The set up is just odd. The woman is running this out of an odd storage unit type space with no receptionist to let you in. So you literally have to wait till your appt time on the street. Then she comes in and lets you in, so by the time the apt starts it's at least five minutes past the hour. I checked the time when my "hour long massage" ended and it was 10 till. It is so not okay to cut a massage short like that. Beyond that, i couldn't relax because the sound from the space next door was a very loud speech therapy class. Pretty distracting and depressing to tell you the truth. And the sad church sounding music playing in the massage room didn't help either. The massage itself was only okay, i went for a relaxing massage and definitely felt a number of elbow shiatsu type moves and odd rhythms which were anything but relaxing. To the reviewer that mentioned being slapped on the neck, i hear you and was confused by that move as well. Beyond that, the temperature was unregulated and the lotions used were cold. Just not the type of experience I was looking for or could enjoy. Sweet woman, so I thought I would leave some honest feedback so hopefully she can fix a few of these issues. Having recently moved from Austin where I had an amazing masseuse-friend, I was a bit nervous to seek out someone in San Fran, assuming I was doomed to be disappointed. Luckily that was not the case! Discovered Shalomtouch on Groupon this morning and immediately texted Corinne. (Yes, texted! My preferred method of telecommunication!) 20 minutes later and I was booked for a 4 o' clock deep tissue. Her studio was very easy to find and I really loved the atmosphere, with its abundance of studios featuring all kinds of artists: Corinne, hairdressers, tattoo parlors, bicycle shops, etc. The room itself is very cozy and comfortable. Corinne has strong hands and knows what she's doing. The IcyHot-like rubdown was the perfect touch, as well as the hot towels, which were a pleasant surprise. Came to Corinne after buying a groupon. Wanted to try her deep tissue massages. I was given fair warning regarding everything (via reviews), so I was skeptical I would like it, but was optimistic the massage would squash any concerns. And I'm glad I went for it! When I texted her, she responded quickly, albeit with brief single syllable type responses. No pleasantries, just business. I was scheduled in 2 days. I got to my appointment 20 minutes early, so I expected to wait outside the establishment (an industrial building for small businesses). Fortunately, the day was sunny and warm with a light breeze. I Was greeted by Corinne at the gate and brought in. The room was small (as was Corinne), but had a very calm, relaxing atmosphere. After a brief talk, she started the massage. It varied from soothing, to painful as she focused on sections of my back with the most tension/knots. This is where most of the work was done. She had told me that she didn't want to rush the treatment, and I was glad that she didn't. She is intuitive to each of her clients, focusing on what needs the most attention. I'll admit, I was put off initially, then as the massage progressed, it was hard to relax at times as she REALLY worked on the tense sections of my back. But after the session was done, I came to realize why she has been getting praise! My back felt great!!! She used the last 10-15 minutes on my legs, but it was as if she just gave me a new back! Great massage...and normally I don't like deep tissue massages. But, she worked out ALL the knots, and all the soreness went away as soon as the session ended. One hour is all you need, because I wasn't sure if I could have taken much more after that. Haha... So word to the wise: There shouldn't be any surprises as to what you will be getting. It's not a spa, its a space where a masseuse will really work out the knots. There is no receptionist, no waiting area, no changing room, no pampering amenities. You come here for the massage.... a DEEP tissue massage, not swedish! And it was great! All the tension in my back...GONE! What you do get: Nice petite lady (much stronger than she seems) who will massage, a zen-like calm room, and a nice ginger/honey cup of tea afterwards. I'm pretty active, (run, weights, yoga, cycling, etc.) but also very injury prone, so I thought I should start searching for someone to help keep me in good shape. I tried several others before finding Shalomtouch. Ade was great! He found tight areas that I didn't realize I had, and freed them up. He also checked in about the pressure and adjusted as needed. This was a great experience but I'm glad I read some Yelp reviews before contacting her. It took her a day to reply and we were quickly able to set up a time a couple days in advance. Exchanged messages were short and to the point, though certainly not unprofessional. I had no problem scheduling an appointment. She told me she'd meet me on the corner of Treat and 18th and when I arrived a few minutes late she was having a snack on the corner but very quickly pulled her stuff together and ushered me into her studio which was very clean, calm and inviting. She was very friendly and asked me what I wanted her to focus on. What proceeded was a very vigorous, fast-paced, aggressive massage which I loved. I think she has strong intuition and I did tell her I liked deep tissue work, though those preferring, slow, subtle strokes won't be pleased with her style or will need to speak up to ask her to slow down and apply less pressure. Again, I enjoyed it but I can imagine many recoiling from how aggressive and fast-paced her strokes are. A couple things that were a little jarring for me: she is very religious (quietly prays at times during the session and has some Jesus knick knacks in the office) and talks about being guided by God. Wasn't a big trigger for me, but it was definitely a little off-putting as a non-Christian. On the other hand, I think most of us get through life with a little help from a higher power and I respect how her relationship with God aids her work and benefitted me. It definitely came through in the product I received, for which I'm thankful. I was also touched by how intuitive and emotional she got while working on certain areas of my back, noticing how much I was carrying and helping me release the tension. At the end of the massage, she first applied some hot wet towels and then this menthol-like liquid without warning that were a little too hot, and burned a bit too much, respectively. A couple seconds in I was able to enjoy both experiences it but the initial shock would have been lessened had she told me what she was about to do! I suggested this after our session and she was very receptive. All in all, a very positive experience that I would repeat. She was sweet and attuned. but she's definitely a very busy lady hustling through Groupons with an aggressive approach but even still she went over time with me a few minutes which I really appreciated. She did a deep tissue massage that worked out the kinks...oh my word, she is very strong for being so petite! She will get to the source of the knot and work it as if she is trying to separate every muscle fiber until she reaches bone. Yes, it hurt like hell the first time (it had been several months since my last massage somewhere else), but my second visit was much easier, and my neck, back, and shoulders feel soooo much better. Corrine is a gifted massage therapist. Her full body massage is one of the very best I've received, and I've been blessed with many years of massage from a lot of incredible body workers. I'm sure Corrine could cater to people just looking for a relaxing treatment, but what I received was effective and truly healing body work. Her technique seems to weave a really effective combination of deep tissue work with acupressure, and my massage ended with light cranial balancing. I walked out of the appointment feeling dramatic improvement in the areas of my body that were tense and in pain. As others mentioned, making an appointment was not the smoothest process, but at every point Corrine was accommodating and helpful. I haven't even had any of the services yet, and I'm already disappointed. As Mindy and Danny mention in their reviews, it's extremely difficult/impossible to get Corrine to respond to appointment requests. The responses are intermittent at best with no follow up; i.e., me: "are you taking any appointments this coming weekend", Corrine: (whoever is on the other end/receiver) "no". me: "How about the following weekend", response: "no". I'll request another date and will receive no response. This has happened on 4 occasions within a 5 week time frame. Why is this so difficult??? I'm completely empathetic to busy schedules BUT strongly believe in common courtesy especially in running a "professional business". And I agree with the comments in some of the reviews that there is A LOT of competition in this space....and amazingly, the competition knows how to operate their phones!!!! The irony.... read more

I'm really glad that I found Corinne! She is quite strong, and has done deep work on my back over several meetings. I am highly satisfied with the experience and results after these sessions. It has also been easy to communicate and schedule appointments with her. Before I even saw her the first time, I got sick and had to reschedule. And she WORKED WITH ME!! This was a great beginning. So I have gone back numerous times since then, because I know she is reliable, and also because she does such good work. In fact, I have purchased 2 "package deals" from her now. She listened to what I asked for, and adjusted expertly during the treatment. She mixes a few different styles in her work, which was extremely effective in working out my numerous knots and tight spots. She did some great stretching techniques around the areas I was needing more flexibility and clearly knows what she is doing. She respected my tendency toward silent enjoyment, and was kind and courteous throughout. I had an excellent facial and back massage from Corinne (using a Living Social deal). For $75 is was a great deal - to my surprise the appointment lasted an hour an 45 minutes! The massage really worked out all of the kinks in my back and my face was glowing after she finished (even with all of the extractions). I found it fairly easy to make an appointment and she was right on time letting me in after I texted her. The only bummer is that she is across the city from me, but I would definitely have another massage from her!! read more
