My First Gay Bar in Austin... Went there on Thursday! 3.00 well drinks and strong .. AMAZING...when I got there they were playing Good Dance music (daft punk)... we left after about an hour to check out the bar next door.. when we went back.. the Place was packed out!! Danced a bit, and got a nice buzzz... Sadly they Kept playing Really top 40's Ubber gay Diva music... which I don't mind in small doses... I'm more of an Indie Dance, Electro, Synth pop kinda music guy! But this place was really FUn lots of Lesbians and gays.. great MIX... Can't wait to check it out again.. Thursday night amateur stripoff. This place is synonymous with amazing Austin experiences with me, and totally worth the horrible Friday morning hangover. The drinks are spotty, but if you pregame a little before you go, you're going to have the time of your life. A bazillion extra points if you can get one of your friends to go up onstage and be one of the strippers! Some nights not enough dudes sign up and they just cull the crowd for hotties--another amazing tradition. We had a great time! It was our first visit to the downtown Austin area and our last night in town. We arrived early because we had no idea where we we're going and decided to stopped for a drink while we searched the area. Rain on 4th looked like a good place to stop, so we did. We loved this place for a couple of different reasons. 1. The bartender was hot (blue eyed boys don't usually get my attention but Robert was exquisite). Oh and he makes a beautiful martini! Thanks Robert!! 2. The drag show was awesome!! There were quite a few queens (amatuers and seasoned) performing and they all were wonderful! Great job ladies!! 3. The ambiance was great! The dance floor was lit up, the courtyard was spacious and mellow, and the front bar maintain it's speedy service. This is not to be taken as a negative review of the big bar. 4. Last but not least...the RESTROOMS WERE CLEAN!!!! I will love you for the rest of my days! Thank you. The door opens, Norm walks in, and everyone screams "Hey Norm"! Okay, so that's a scene from "Cheers" but it's the way I feel when I walk into Rain on Fourth every Sunday. Jonathan, Andy, Cory, Henry....etc., are so genuinely nice and friendly. We have known some of these guys for over 16yrs and it is amazing how they all look the same. I am not a late crowd kind of guy so Sunday's and some Friday happy hours are my real experiences here. Great drinks and really good prices. The beer is cold, the hotdogs are hot, and the...well, you know if you are a Simpson's fan. On Sunday Andy has food on the back patio and he is an amazing cook. (Small donation suggested). They have an event every year, April Showers, that is a fun fundraiser. Great atmosphere overall. My first experience here was amazing, great music was played by the DJ. Second experience was a couple months after the first one, was disappointed in music choice as not many people knew the music being played. Was also spoken to in vulgar language by a bouncer, after suspecting a friend of taking a drink gifted by a stranger, but was "watching the entire time" and no drink was consumed, but was still escorted out and then spit on before we became disgusted and left the premises. Austin's latest "upscale" gay lounge. This lounge is located in the middle of the Warehouse District. There's normally a line on the weekends - probably due to strict fire code enforcement in the area. As you'd expect, the theme is "Rain" so there's a rain effect water sculpture as you enter the lounge. There's a lounge area with plenty of comfy couches near the dj area. Plenty of room to mingle. An elevated and lighted dance floor is in the front bar. The back bar is at the outdoor patio area. In the winter months, there are heated lamps for cool nights. The music here tends to be more trendier than other gay clubs in austin. read more

Out of all the gay bars/clubs I've visited in Austin, this is probably one of my lesser favorites. However, I still always manage to have a good time here thanks to the music and the fun crowd. What I really don't like about this place is that it's hard to get a good spot on the rather small dance floor. The dance floor which just happens to be higher than the general floor, causing people to spend half of their time pushing and shoving for space and the other half trying to hold on to something before practically falling off. When I have to spend more of my time holding on to something or someone for safety instead of dancing, there is definitely a problem. What I do like about this place however, is of course the music, the NO cover charge, the hot bartenders, and the nice outside patio w/cabanas. Therefore, even w/the semi crappy dance floor (and can't forget long bathroom lines) I think I will still return on my next trip to Austin. read more

As one of the many straight girls following her gay friends around, I must say that the girls' bathroom is disgusting: toilets without seats or just broken. However, as long as one toilet works and the stall still locks, it beats New Years Eve at Oil Cans.... It tends to be overly-crowded and the dance floor is so small people end up dancing on the floor next to it instead, but the music is great and the drinks are good, so I can't complain! Walked in here to grab a quick drink on a Friday night around 7 PM and the place wasn't empty, but it wasn't popping off yet. The drinks were cheap, the bar was nicely lit and clean and the dance floor had some crazy lights! Went here on Saturday for the first time since there was a long line at Qua. After getting thru the friendly door man we head straight to the bar which was packed. The bartender was very friendly and fast and sure knows how to make a Texas Tea and a Margarita ($16 for both... worth every penny). The crowd was typical gay crowd with a bit of everything and remixed and mash-ups playing out loud. We took a sit by the pool table for some people watching and sipping on out strong drinks. I like the bar for the most part, but the dance floor is TINY! Advice - go straight to the back bar, don't try and fight the people at the front bar. The back is open for smokers, etc. There is also a downstairs portion if you go all the way to the back. When I say downstairs - I mean more like just a little lower while still being outside. Does get a bit muggy during the summer. The fans are your best friend. There is a bed seat in the back, but outside that not too many resting places to visit. Bathrooms are sub-par. read more

There's a patio/bar out the back also where we hung out and met some really nice people. My friends and I came here Saturday night around 11:40. Went to the back bar to get a drink. Ordered from the male bartender, white, buzz cut, dirty blonde, possibly brunette who was kinda snippy. I ordered a vodka water and a whiskey coke. Keep in mind I am a bartender. When he went to pour my drink he pours maybe half a count of alcohol in both the drinks, drinks are suppose to be a 4 count. When I questioned him about it he got rude and charged me for a double! My tab was $25 for BOTH of the drinks. I'm a bartender and it kinda makes me mad when I don't get the full drink that I'm paying for then get charged more for saying he didn't pour right. Rain was thoroughly dead when I stopped in during my Austin vacation -- that said, for a place with only a handful of other patrons there my friends and I had a lot of fun. The music was exactly what you'd expect from a gay dance club (and if that's not what you're looking for, why are you *at* a gay dance club, right?). Everyone who worked there was outstandingly friendly -- which I've noticed is common in Austin, but it blew my New England mind every place we went. I loved the layout of the club too -- it seems like it has a little bit of everything, with a nice lounge area and a patio as well. I love this place - it has four different atmospheres to suit your mood: quiet and secluded table tops and round booths inside, loud flashy dance floor inside often with a mostly nude performer or two, divey casual and larger standing-room heated deck outside where you can still see and hear music videos and also talk to each other and smoke, and quiet cozy skyscraper view with soothing light strings outside. I prefer the second and third, the fourth seems a bit "stuffy." Helpful bartenders and just overall good vibe and safe space here. Yes, it's mostly gay.
