I had the worst experience ever here. I ordered a cake for my 30th birthday along with other pastries and treats. I arrived to pick up my cake and it was not ready and I got yelled at for demanding where my cake was when I was there at the time they told me to arrive. I was late to my own birthday party and ended up leaving the bakery crying. The owner told me to leave without a cake and go buy one from Ralph's. Luckily my sister was with me and she calmed everyone down and told them we'd wait for the cake to be done. Close to an hour later, the cake was decorated and ready but he nearly ruined my birthday. Everything was perfect on my wedding day except my cake! I booked Raffi about 6 months prior to my wedding and we did one quick sketch of what I wanted my wedding cake to look like. We went over photos and agreed on some things. One of the photos I showed him was a rose gold shimmer fondant that I asked for him to include in two of the seven layers on my gold & ivory wedding cake. He agreed that he can do it. It is now the day of my wedding and I didn't notice my cake until it was time to cut it and there was just an ugly MATTE BABY PINK cake sitting in front of me. As a cake decorating expert who does wedding cakes they should KNOW that this does not look good on a wedding cake! My cake looked like it was made for a sweet 16 event. It was the worst feeling in the world. To know you had put so much time and effort into planning your wedding that something like that could turn it upside down. My guests kept asking me 'what happen to the cake'. It just looked so out of place compared to everything else that my wedding consisted of. Everything from flowers to service on my wedding was beyond my expectations but I still cannot get over the fact that Raffi delivered a baby pink cake to a wedding. Every time I think about it I CRINGE. I imagined Raffi's Pastry to have high creative standards but the cake he delivered for me was nothing near what my expectations of them were. I must also add that the craftsmanship on the cake was not all that. I've never went out of my way to post a negative review about a business but I want other brides out there to know not to go out of their typical design if they are booking him...otherwise you will receive a very expensive sweet sixteen cake. I should also mention that they have terrible customer service. No one followed up to confirm delivery time prior to my wedding. Out of fear that they have a reputation to deliver late I asked for a 4 pm delivery hoping they can at least get there before my guests arrive. Where should I begin from? Me and my fiancé are from Las Vegas and were in LA shopping for our wedding cake, we also visited this place Rafi's, the front desk lady after listening to what we needed, we basically had only a few questions and if any appointment was needed we could have managed it, she went inside and called a guy which I'm assuming was the owner, we obviously needed help, he didn't even bother to ask if anything was needed, and went back inside, and I thought ok, maybe he's giving us a moment, he sends the front lady back out only to tell us we should be there same day for consultation sharp at 4:30, we explained that we are short on time, might not be able to make it, and asked if any other options for more information were available, but heard the same story. Next day we were advised to go back to this place since they are professional, this time the front lady greets us, we tell her we're back she says so what? Did you look at the clock? With an attitude. Confused I said ya sure..what about it? She taps on to her wrist with her finger telling me it's not 4:30 and they can't do anything now they have a delivery, again I mentioned that we are not from LA we're running short on our time, and asked if we can check on their website for more information, said I can't do anything for you now...which made me even angrier, I would never advise anyone to work with these people, if you need a professional approach for this matter these guys are not what you need. I'm writing this review 3 years after I booked Rafi's for my wedding. It's been 3 years and I've avoided writing a bad review because I didn't want to create negativity but because it's been 3 years and the fact that I'm still not over it that I HAVE to write my review. So a few friends actually recommended Rafi's to me. I decided to just go for it. At first we ordered my wedding cake. The design was fine. It was a simple naked cake. I ordered the pistachio only to find out that he made it cappuccino. The pistachio at my tasting was amazing, the cappuccino I got at my wedding was disappointing. The initial visit and order was fine. Rafi was pleasant. We ordered my cake and several different kinds of pastries for my dessert table setup. Several times I would go back to keep adding on to my order and after the initial visit I was serviced by an older lady who was rude as can be and kept giving me ridiculous prices (prices that Rafi didn't even give me). Also a young girl who seemed so lost. Everytime I would ask a question she would be a ditz about it and have to run back and clearly ask Rafi who refused to come out and provide service. I get it. He can't be in all places at once but damn if you're going to have people work in your bakery then make sure they can provide at least basic customer service. Honestly, I think at most I was disappointed with the flavor of my cake. I had a 4 tier and I wanted all the tiers pistachio. All three bottom tiers were cut and served and we kept the top small tier for a year in the freezer like tradition. To my surprise I had to wait a year to find out the top tier was my requested pistachio cake. I was beyond furious! If you're going to write down the flavor a customer requests then STICK TO IT! The last thing a bride wants to deal with is something unexpectedly disappointing happening on the day of her wedding. I will not be going back to Rafi's unfortunately. read more

Rafi's cakes are exquisite. My fiancé and I went in for the cake tasting. There were three different cakes: chocolate, red velvet, and vanilla and six fillings to try: chocolate, coffee, cream cheese, pistachio and rose, chocolate hazelnut, and Bavarian. Honestly this rating is based on the fact that I've gone there three different times, their door has always been open, lights on, yet there is nobody in there who will come out and let me buy something. When I heard that there was a pastry shop in the Glendale/Burbank area that had French macarons, I was all for trying it. I decided to stop in one afternoon and see what this place was made of. Turns out it's made of big stinking disappointment. I walk in and see a case full of different types of cookies (nut bars; butter cookie fingers sandwiched with fruit preserves; nut tartlets; and sadly ONE type of French macaron). I'm told that cookies are $8 a pound... that's ok. I'm really curious at what flavor the macaron is... Me: "What kind of French macaron is that?" (I'm pointing right at it) Counter Lady: "It's cookie" (I've given up on that question.) I see some interesting cookies that are individually wrapped in white paper. Seems special... Me: "What kind of cookies are these?" Counter Lady: "It's cookie." THANKS FOR THE DETAIL. I give up and just ask for 4 of each kind of cookie in the case. (Like, having multiple cookies will somehow change my first impressions. After trying them at home, I shouldn't have bothered. Everything tasted the same. Bland. Poor attempts at dainty cookies. And the French macaron! So disappointed. Turns out "it's cookie" translates into pistachio, and (from what I can guess) orange blossom. it sounds like an exotic tasty combination like one of the Mashti Malone ice cream flavors, but the flavor wasn't up to par. The texture of the macaron was off, too. It was dense, not airy and light like their supposed to be! Many times I drove by Rafi's and was curious about what they had to offer. I walked in and wasn't impressed with the bake items they had in the display but there were a few cakes in another displayed that was impressive, and since that's what I went in for I was excited to see what they could do for my daughter's birthday party! About a minute later a lady comes out looking bothered. I kindly told her that I was interested in a cake for my daughter's birthday. The lady didn't even let me finish what I was saying and told me that she can not make the cake because they are very busy. She didn't even know the date and was already saying no. I told her that the date wasn't until three weeks away and she still said no. I was really disappointed with their customer service and would not think of going back. Although, the designs of the cakes look impressive the baked items were blah..so it makes me wonder how good their cakes are. Luckily, I found another place that was excellent and reasonable.
