It's a decent bakery to buy yummy treats. I like their cookie trays. Always fresh and delicious. They sell a lot of those trays so it's always fresh. Not sure about the pastries with cream. The taste is not as great and fresh. We recently purchased Easter choregs and they were pretty good. Customer service is ok, not the best or the worst for an Armenian bakery. This young lady has black hair, she is never happy when she sees people come to the store, I ask a question it's always replied back with a frown on her face. I've been going to Van's bakery pretty often for there Napoleon pastries which are soooo good!! One day I went and pre ordered some c/ they were sold out, pick them up the next day and they were the small squares ones not the longer ones (which I prefer) but I was ok with that. When I bit into one it did not taste the same and a little stale. So I called and asked to speak to a manager to tell them I was not happy with my order and the whole experience from when I picked it up from the tall girl that's usually there who is not so friendly.. Manager/owner Rose was so pleasant and sweet! She apologized and offered to accommodate me with freshly made Napoleon free of charge and when I picked them up they were in a nice box with extra inside and also included some other cheese like pastries which was also yummy. At second glance it appears this may be a slightly newer version of stated old school bakery. it is in a busy stretch of Sherman Way in a very diverse section of NoHo. The same stretch has a Denny's, loads of taco joints, Pho and Thai too plus all the usual fast food suspects. I popped in to grab a sweet snack after a somewhat dubious Thai lunch special up the street. I was waiting on a car repair and wondered up Sherman Way and back down before Van peaked my interest. I've only had a few of their pastries, and it was kind of hit or miss. Some were pretty ordinary, but I'm giving 4 stars because of one particular item: the cheese roll. It's better than the cheese roll at Portos! It has a similar filling, but it has a crispy glazed crust that is amaaazing! Oh, also, when we visited about an hour before closing time, my mom complimented their cheese rolls while putting in her order, and the man gave her a whole bag full on the house. Excellent service. The minute I walked into the door the clerks smiled and asked me if I needed help finding something. She helped me find what I was looking for and also helped me make a decision on finding something more. The cookies which I purchased were incredibly delicious and affordable. Terrible place to buy cakes from. I have not tried their pastries but their cake was a disaster. I have order a cake for my husbands surprise birthday party by the time my husband came home there was no cake it was just a puddle of mess. The cake started to melt within an hour and it slowly started to fall apart. It was supposed to be a Nike shoe it didn't look anything like the picture I sent them. The Nike sign was a half a circle instead of a check mark. The show itself looked like medical shoe not Nike tennis shoe. Omg it was a disaster. They charged me an arm and a leg for it and gave me a mess. Oh and the best part, they didn't even put the cake in a box. It was completely open when my brother brought it home, and the guy told my brother to put it in the trunk of his car the cake would be fine. With no box. I have never seen anything like this before. I bought a $300 cake for a birthday, the lady that i picked up the cake from didn't even put the cake in a box. she told me to put the cake in my trunk and just go no need for a box. Needless to say the cake was just crap. By the time I got home, the cake was literally falling apart. the fondant started falling apart, all the decorations fell apart. I don't know how long ago they made my cake, I ordered the cake a month prior to my event, but when I cut into the mush that used to be a cake there was mold in there. MOLD. Can you all imagine how embarrassing it is to cut a cake in front of your guests and see a mold in there? I cannot believe the health department is not on their asses for this, this place should be shut down and no one should ever buy anything from them. A day after the event I have called them and let them know what was going on, and that the cake not only started to fall apart but that they had mold in it too the hung up on me. I called back twice they didn't answer. I called with m husbands number and they answered and when they heard that it was me again they hung up on me again. Finally I got in touch with them after calling about 11 times, and the lady on the phone started yelling at me and told me I am making things up, and "Who eats cake nowadays, we buy the cake just to show it off, no one eats it."
