I have always been a customer of Rack-it, but this experience today was above and beyond. I am a Thule freak, and I don't deviate from the brand. But for this particular car, MBZ E350 Coupe, didn't list an AeroBlade flush mount in the product look-up book. Instead of allowing me to run off, he took the time to find the rack I wanted, and fit it to my car. ~Evidently, the reason my model car was not in the Thule stock book, is because my fixed roof points were a click in-between sizes. ~But these racks can easily be cut down to accommodate a smaller footprint...But if you don't know your stuff, you don't think to offer. So, within minutes instead of allowing a customer to cruise empty handed, I got what I wanted...the retail $$ was less than any other on-line price, "including Amazon", got it installed in minutes, and I have "new" 2021 Thule model bike racks ordered and coming some time after April... read more

The fat bearded man at the front desk was not helpful to me and condescending . Also overhearing his phone conversations a the front desk says al lot of his attitude towards other customers, I did get much help but rather discouraged on coming back to that business ever again. read more

Here's some advice for Rack-it to avoid lousy reviews. You're competing with the likes of amazon.com and your prices are higher. The only thing you can offer that Amazon doesn't is courteous and informed customer service. If you don't provide that, it makes more sense to buy from Amazon. I came in yesterday asking about getting a Thule fit kit for a Mini Cooper. I already have the appropriate Thule roof bars from a previous vehicle. I was asked if I had the crossbars that "extended" past the "foot". I said that I had the Aeroblade Edge bars (They're flush to the edges). He said that I had to buy new crossbars and that I couldn't hope to fit my existing crossbars to the new car and furthermore that I couldn't change the "feet". In my surprise, I asked him again if he was sure. He confirmed that he was sure. I told him I thought he was mistaken and I told him I'd find the Fit Kit elsewhere. All this while never making eye contact and never taking his eyes off his computer, where he could have been looking up the correct information but didn't. To top it all off, I got a condescending "have a nice day" as I was leaving. A check on thule.com when I got home confirmed that he was indeed wrong. Rack-It, I shouldn't have to educate you, but for your information the correct Fit Kit is 4020 and the Aeroblade Edge is one of the options Thule says will fit my car. Had the fellow bothered to make even a modicum of effort, he would have had a sale. But why should I buy from Rack-It when I don't get any extra value for the higher prices? read more

Had the pleasure of working with Brian today at Rack-it in San Diego. I had recently contacted Brian last week in reference to a Yakima rack system for my roof top tent (RTT) and he was very pleasant to work with over the phone. He asked a few questions and what my objective was to mount my new tent and today I had him install everything, yep, including my RTT. Brian was very eager to begin work and answered any question I had for him. I was a little nervous in how it was going to sit over my truck bed and he actually recommended me to get the full height Yakima system that will enable me to completely fold out my tent. It took him 2 hours for the installation and the end result was incredible. The rack system was solid, the RTT sat perfect over the bed of my Toyota Tundra and the height was perfect. I want to thank Brian for taking the time in answering all of my questions and a job well done in providing us superior customer service. Why only 3 stars? The dude at the counter sitting behind the computer with the beard was very unpleasant and very condescending towards my wife and I (a little embarrassing). We walked in planning on spending a lot of money and nearly walked out if it wasn't for Brian stepping in. My recommendation - It's a good place to purchase and have Brian install your goods, just note that if you see a guy there with brown short hair and a beard to avoid him at all costs. read more

Rack it does not stand behind the defective products they sell. I purchased straps for my kayaks that failed after two uses. The straps ripped where they were attached to the smooth plastic on the kayak. I used other straps several times and never had an issue. These straps were obviously defective and rack it would not replace them. I wouldn't recommend them to any body. read more

These guys are the best. I've lost a key from my roof rack, called Yakima and they told me to call the locksmith and then order a new set of keys. It would cost me at least $50-90 and a week of waiting for those keys. After going though every possible place where the keys could've been, I decided to give Rack-It a call. They immediately told me they can open the lock. I arrived a few hours later and it took a guy 2 minutes to open it. Then the guy changed all the locks so I have the same key from tower locks and roof rack locks. Imagine how surprised I was when they didn't charge me anything!!! The guy just took my old keys and locks, and called it even! Definitely recommend this place and will use them in the future. read more

Very uncomfortable in-store experience. I went into the store looking to get additional information regarding roof cross bars and hopefully make a purchase. I had several questions about the size (cross bar lengths) and different footing options for my vehicle. Upon making contact with a store employee, he led me to the computer to show the options based on my vehicle and set up. As I'm unfamiliar with cross bars and the process can be confusing, I began asking general questions about what I saw online and what was being recommended there in the store. The employee seemed frustrated with my questions and didn't seem to want to help or at least show some patience. At one point I got the feeling of the employee's frustration and I mentioned I'll just go somewhere else for my business. The employee didn't seem to pick up on the lack of good customer service at the moment and didn't seem to care for my business. A second employee heard the conversation and decided to intervene and assist further. This other employee led me over to the display options. We discussed sizes and I asked questions about adjusting to my vehicle and options to change sizes if needed. This employee began speaking in a very condescending manner ("I don't think you understand what I'm telling you" "This right here (with hand gestures) isn't your car, it's a model", "obviously the round bars are noisier", etc. so forth and so forth). I was shocked that I was considering spending over $600 right there from this store and these employees were talking to a customer like this. I don't know the names of these employees, but I would appreciate some additional training/reminders or to follow up with these employees to explain the importance of good customer service. We as customers are not the experts and no matter what questions we have, the employees should be there to do whatever is needed to assist them and not make them feel this uncomfortable. It's stated right on the Rack-It webpage 'Guarantee' that "Customer satisfaction is our promise. We strive to offer top-notch customer service and expertise in any and all things rack-related." They definitely didn't back up that guarantee today. This happened on 9/21/2021 at 12:30 pm. I hope this helps narrow down the employees working at that time and this matter can be discussed with them and corrected going forward. read more

Alex showed patience with my scatterbrain, said it was fortunate that the Inno rack I purchased (against my better judgement) from Sporty Spice (using Offer Up) is compatible with my car, and that Rack-It happened to have a mounting kit. He also had a key for the rack, which I was missing; and he was able to find a Japanese language .pdf manual, which he printed out so that I might make good on my promise to God and family not to bungle this snowboard rack thing up. I picked up an old busted ass Thule roof rack from my boss for five dollars. He just wanted it out of his garage. Cleaning off the cobwebs and taking it apart I found not 1, but 2 full grown black widows along with not 1, but 2 juvenile black widows. It was that kind of old garaged rack. At the least I needed new feet to match it to my car and a new key. If it would fit at all. If they even made feet for racks from the 80's anymore. Walked in the door at rack-it. Asking about old racks keys feet etc. I assumed I would need to go to a locksmith for the key. Which would have cost at least 50 bucks (maybe 100? 150?). But no, Rack-It had a key in stock for this ancient rack. Then to the feet. Rack-It actually had this set of feet in their back storage area. Not in an off-site warehouse. No special order. They had it on a shelf in back. And the box looked ancient (circa 82-85). Out the door with tie-down straps for under 60 dollars. I was wondering if they even made parts for a rack that old. Rack-It had everything IN STOCK. And nothing was wildly expensive. Didn't try to get me to upgrade to anything crazy. Super helpful. Old rack circa 82-85: keys in stock. Old feet to connect old rack to old car (89 Grand Marquis): in stock. Helpful, knowledgeable, and nice: 5 stars. I'd give them more if I could. read more

My husband and I went to Rack-It today to hopefully buy and install cargo rooftop box today. We were pleased with the service and knowledge of the staff. They were a bit busy, but a couple minutes passed, and a couple more employees came out to help. It didn't bother me as we were undecided between two models. I thought it was really cool that they installed it for free (I don't think that this is always the case). It is easy enough to do on our own. read more

This place rocks. I trashed my roof rack (don't ask ...) & resigned myself to new racks for several hundred dollars. I showed up here at opening time. Jay was calm, helpful, & knowledgeable. He looked at the damage, dug around in the spare parts bins & told me he could fix it with a few new parts for a total of about $40. I left it there for the morning & the job was done by noon. Total cost only $41. Rack is now as good as new, maybe better. read more

The first time was when I bought my Yakima Roof Rack system about a year ago, and the second time was when I had to go back yesterday because one of the bracket cushions was deteriorating and messing up my door frame. In all honesty, I was expecting them to tell me to go pound sand, and deal with the situation with Yakima myself. However, the exact opposite thing happened. They seem to be as upset about it as I was, and they called Yakima and straighten the whole thing out and fixed it for me on the spot. Great customer service! I wanted to write this review to thank the guys at Rack It for their great customer service. My husband purchased a rack for his new car a few weeks ago and he was so excited for it to be installed. Unfortunately when the rack came in it didn't fit- even though he custom ordered it the supplier sent the wrong one to Rack It. Jay the manager was awesome- he said this never happens and guaranteed the correct one be rush-shipped from the supplier so he could install it asap. On top of that he refunded the labor cost that was charged and even threw in some surfboard pads for the rack. i've been coming here for a long time now and in the days where customer service is hard to come by, this place ranks supreme! if you've ever bought a rack before at some sporting goods store you know the knowledge they have is mediocre at best and they're basically just there to collect a paycheck...not rack it. Brian is maybe the most knowledgable guy out there in the rack business and it shows. he's not biased and will give you all possible options to fit your vehicle and let you decide how much you want to spend. he's also a beer aficionado and will graciously take beer for tips (yes i did that when i came back). the owner i assume is jay and is not only super knowledgable but easy and fun to talk to. they have a great selection of all the top brands and will make sure you leave knowing your gear is secure. great job! read more

Rack-It is a great retail store for all your rack and sporting traveling needs. I have ordered from Rackit.com for a while when living in NY. and now that I am living in San Diego it is even better that I can visit the retail store. I recently purchased a Mazda 3S Hatchback and needed a roof rack for my Longboards, Standup Paddles and Bikes. After getting the runaround from the dealer for just about 2 months, I finally lost my mind and did all the legwork myself. I contacted Rack-It and explained the situation, I was off the phone with all the information I needed for the dealer, and better yet; They had everything in stock, could install it, and they fit me in the very next day. Great Service! They worked with the dealer to take care of all the paperwork, all I had to do was drive down and have it installed, which was completed in under and hour! and INNO was running a deal this month so I received a free Faring for the rack, which is amazing because with a sunroof, the rack and my boards, it real cuts down on the noise level. I want to thank BRIAN and all the crew at Rack-It for setting me up and getting me back on the road & water for a great price, great product, and best of all great service. I will surely return soon to purchase the bike attachment for my rack. Also- for anyone who wants locking cables for your gear, buy the THULE 10ft Locking straps! i've been surfing for over 20 years, and these are the best I have ever used, they pull down super tight, they are steel-core vinyl straps with locking caps. Added security from people trying to cut your boards off the roof or trying to loosen them and slide them out. There is an assortment of locking straps available at Rack-It, but even the staff recommended these more, and they are cheaper than the other brands. They are super high quality, and the lock is a cap that slides down over the pull tabs, better than other brands where the pressure tab is also the lock. Best $62 I ever spent on surf gear! read more

The only star I do give is for the guy who helped me was very very nice. Other than that I would give this place less than one star if I could. I went into the store to get my husband a rack for the back of his truck that we can add attachments to for kayak, bikes, luggage box, etc and is adjustable. I spent a couple hours in there asking questions and more questions so I could get exactly what I wanted. He showed me several bike racks that fit and he insisted the racks we already own will definitely work on them. My husband installed it in the back of his truck on Christmas Day and drove all the way out there today to start adding to his rack. First, he has a two year old in one arm and this giant box in the other while the staff wouldn't get off their lazy asses to even offer to help. Second, they told him there were no connections for that system including the ones we already own or anything what he was looking for after he walked them to the truck and explained it all to them. They looked clueless when he said he wanted to have this over camping gear to hold bikes etc. they just could not understand the request. Then, they will NOT refund and resell a system that will work for him. They will not store credit him or even tell him what does work with this system...they just pretty much said you are screwed bye. ....ALL after.....when I purchased the items and was helped to my car the employee stood the box upright, with two tiny kids with me and it fell over when he walked away from it denying and scratching my car enough that it has to have body work done and file an insurance claim. The owner came down when it happened and sat his butt on a stool and never offered even an apology. This place is absolute garbage, they tell you what you want to hear just to make a sell. No refunds or exchanges even when you are shopping as a gift and telling them it may come back for something else if it isn't what he wants. DONT GO THERE!!!!!!!! read more

Talked to one guy who was great, next one was an imperious asshole who only knew racks from the literature and didn't have any real world experience. Came on Small Business Saturday since they were closed on Black Friday and they had ZERO deals going. Really? And I didn't buy this stuff on the internet because I wanted to support a local business? Wasn't worth it. You guys really need to try harder on your customer relations. read more

These guys were super helpful. My racks were super old and broken so I just planned on getting a whole new set. They told me it was salvageable and pull around back so they could take a better look. Two of the guys spent close to an hour working on them and only had to replace a few parts for a total of 80 bucks and no labor charge. They could have easily said I needed a new system costing upwards of 400 dollars and I would have been none the wiser. Great bunch of guys, honest, dependable hard work...I have recommended to several of my friends all ready. Make sure to bring them a 6 pack of some quality beers, they deserve it! read more
