I bought a set of Yakima Racks online from etrailer.com for my Subaru Outback. I spec'd out all the components and got a pretty good deal online. When all the components finally arrived at my house, I started the install process only to encounter issues getting everything squared away. I was frustrated because I thought the racks that I diligently spec'd for my car, weren't suited for the factory roof rails. I was about to return the setup, and try again with a Thule rack system, when I checked out Yelp and found Rack-It.
I called first, about mid-day, and they told me to bring my gear in around 2. When I arrived, I met Mike and explained the situation. It seemed standard practice to him, and he quoted me $50 for the install and about a half hours worth of time. Personally, I don't mind paying for a pro to do an installation, so I was set. I pulled my car in and he started to work.
While Mike was doing the install, I browsed the shop. Rack-It has an awesome selection of all kinds of racks & cargo equipment and everything was installed in house so I could see what it looked like. I was racking my Subaru to be able to carry snowboards and surfboards, so naturally I was curious about other components that would make my adventures easier. I came across the INNO Locking Surfboard rack installation and was immediately interested. I went back to Mike, who was nearly complete after about 20 minutes, and started asking questions. He was not pushy at all and started talking to me about the INNO system and how it would integrate with my Yakima rack. Having a surfboard in the car, I was convinced and I asked him to install the INNO carrier when he was done.
While Mike continued the install, I proceeded to ask more questions about how the snowboard rack (Yakima's Big Powderhound) would fit on the racks he was installing and how I would have to maneuver things around when the time came to use it. He instructed me that it would not be a problem because the components he was installing would easily removable and the brackets wouldn't have to be moved around when it came time for the switch.
After both rack systems were installed, Mike bagged up the extra parts (and unused instructions) and took me inside to show me how the snowboard rack would fit on the racks he just installed. About an hour after I drove into the place, I was able to throw the surfboard in my car, right on the roof and lock it down, with the confidence that a pro had installed the rack correctly. I even sped about 85mph on the way home to ensure everything was sound. And it was without question.
Bottom Line:
- Friendly Knowledgeable Staff
- No Bullshit sales pitches / no pushy offers
- Top Quality, super quick and affordable Installation
- Immediate assistance
- Fully stocked warehouse
- Installed show case products in house
- Reasonably competitive prices as compared to etrailer.com
I was happy I dropped the $50 bucks to have Mike @ Rack-It install my equipment. I just wish I bought the rack set up there and had him do it from the start.
