The Griffin Fair Haven - Too thick mushroom soup

Celebrated my husband's birthday here and it was a memorable, 5 star experience! Our waitress,…read moreWendy, was great. The service from start to finish was perfect. We loved the entertainer, Kenny Gee, who was charming and fun...but not overly loud. The restaurant has a classy but unpretentious atmosphere with wonderful views of the water. We started with the Brie appetizer and calamari, and both were excellent. I had the pecan chicken. I'd definitely recommend it (as long as you don't mind a sweet sauce). My son had the crab cake, and my husband had the 8 oz filet with added bleu cheese butter. Both the guys really enjoyed their dinner (although my son was stuffed from eating too much of the good bread and butter)! We did not save room for dessert, unfortunately. Tommy is the owner, and we remember him from our many years as regulars at Crews Inn. He definitely does a great job!

Come on! Even if your a rich, stuffy, self entitled boater, we all work for our money (some of us harder than others) and unapologetically want great service especially with an expensive meal, Also, would recommend not allowing reservations if you still have to wait 40-45 minutes for a table. The food was good but won't be returning .

I got the perch dinner 1/2 pound and it was large enough to bring home half as leftovers. I had the choice of soup, salad or coleslaw. I got the salad which was probably a mistake. The salad was lettuce, some of which was brown, with a couple cherry tomatoes and a few slices of onions. I asked if they had balsamic vinaigrette dressing and the waitress brought me vinegar for dressing. Oh well. Then I had the choice of fries, mashed or redskin potatoes. I got the redskin and they were pretty good. My friend got the black and blue burger which comes with potato chips but he upgraded to fries. He really enjoyed his burger. If I was in the mood for perch again I would go and eat there again.

For a small place, there's a good selection of drinks. But, we were hungry, and we definitely came to the right place. I ordered the Fair Haven Po Boy, which was billed as a beef brisket, but seems a lot more like a roast beef sandwich. Fortunately, it was good, and there was a lot of of it. The onion rings were robustly battered, and cooked properly so there was a nice crunch to every bite. There were only two servers at that time, but they were able to keep up with everybody, and the food came out quickly. Definitely worth a return visit if I'm in the area.

Service can be erratic and clannish. The seasoned wait staff usually go straight to the regulars or larger parties. The inexperienced wait staff get everyone else. They try hard. That's how I'd describe Catch 22. This does not look like a cutting edge restaurant. It looks like the kind of restaurant your parents ate at in the 80s (and the kind I ate at in the 80s). That's not totally fair, because it does have a nautical charm that represents the community. But, of course, the food is what matters most. It starts right away with freshly baked bread (how many places since the 80s do that anymore?). It was served with a sweet butter, but they have no problem providing a regular butter. We were told the mushroom soup was good, but the waitress undersold it. It was rich and savory and flavorful, the kind of soup that makes you wish you were at home so you could lick the bowl. My wife was territorial about sharing her salmon, with good reason. This is a fishing community that prides itself on the quality of its seafood. I loved the flawless preparation of the sliver of salmon she reluctantly shared with me. I didn't mind because the ahi tuna was magical. I offered her some, but she was happy with her salmon. Her loss. I ordered it medium rare; I enjoy my tuna steak the way I enjoy my beef steak. And, this was a beautiful cut of tuna. It was encrusted in peppercorns and sesame seeds, giving it a little bite. Take that, Gordon Ramsay! I got it with a side of perfectly lumpy mashed potatoes, with robust dark gravy on the side. Combined with the tuna, it was a lot of food, but there was never any doubt I was going to eat every bit of it. I ordered a local brew, Anchor Bay Noble Mutt red ale. Not as malty as a typical red, which I enjoyed. It didn't interfere with the meal. The service was also very quick, and cheerfully rendered by our server. It's not cheap, but there's no way something that good should ever be cheap. We're already trying to figure out the next time we can come back here.

I was…read moreexpecting to walk in and get fried or baked lake fish, but to my surprise this place goes for a more tropical theme. Soon as you walk in, you feel like you were transported to a tropical island in the Caribbean. Most of the seafood items consist of lobster, shrimp and mahi. But they also offer burgers, various chicken dishes, and tropical drinks. I was not expecting to like the restaurant this much, but they are a hidden gem. The lobster roll I got came with pineapple coleslaw for $24, which is a pretty good deal for lobster roll. I also asked to have it with a side of chips, which was a good idea as it gave my meal more texture since the lobster rolls are very soft, but delicious nonetheless due to the fact they use Hawaiian rolls for the sandwich bread. I finished my meal with a slice of key lime pie, which was also excellent. The staff here are also very polite and do their best to make sure you are satisfied. 100% worth a visit even if you don't live close to them (no matter what time of year)
