I consider myself somewhat of a diner aficionado around Detroit/Eastside and you have about 3 categories: the Bad (extremely rare), the high end Coney Islands (about 85% of the diners in the area) and then the few Stand Outs. Dan's Diner is a Stand Out. It's extremely high quality but what sets it apart is the special offerings on their menu First off, their omelettes are unique and incredible. If you want, they put a sauce on top of each one of them. I got the Italian Sausage omelette with Swiss Cheese and it was very very good. The Italian Sausage pieces were fresh, good size and high quality. The cheese was also high quality and plentiful What set it over the top though was the Mushroom Sauce they put on top of it. It was awesome! Very high quality mushroom cream sauce and it made an otherwise good omelette into a great one! Each omelette comes with either cheesy hasbrowns or regular hashbrowns and a pancake or toast. I don't eat bread but I got the cheesy hashbrowns and then added their hand cut French fries as an extra side Again, both went above and beyond typical diner fare, with the hash browns being extra crispy and well seasoned and the fries were crispy as well with a unique seasoning. Again, amongst diner food in the area, Dan's stood out and its prices were extremely fair for all the extras each omelette came with The location is great. It's a great sized restaurant with tons of booths and room. You're not stacked on top of each other here. I also like that there are a ton of windows at the restaurant. My service was incredible with multiple waitresses making sure that my coffee and water were filled. Each one of them was extremely pleasant. Food came out quickly. Highly recommend! read more

I visit this place occasionally because they are local and they offer a big tasty breakfast that I can split with my 9 yo grandson. Today me and the boy sat down for breakfast. He proceeded to puke water all over the table once breakfast was ordered. He's okay. Mom gave him a prophylactic supplement before he ate that didn't agree with his tummy. The servers sprung into action and brought napkins and towels, and helped me clean the table. They packed the meal to go and gave me a carry out coffee. My grandson was treated with dignity and empathy. They were so awesome that I don't think any of the other diners realized my grandson threw up in the booth. The service at Dan's Diner is always exceptional. Today they went above and beyond. read more

Very nicely presented Greek Salad with chicken. Fat tomatoes, feta, olives and red onions with Greek dressing and grilled pita. Recommend.

I discovered this charming diner this morning and had breakfast with a friend. We both had the country omelette stuffed with pork sausage,onions and hash browns. The server Valora was attentive,friendly and very funny. I'd highly recommend checking this diner out for their enormous & delicious omelettes. What a gem to find! They have a very loyal fan group and they stay busy! We walked in and totally expected to wait but we got seated right away. Our server-- this darling older women who got us our drinks right away. She was up front and said we picked the busiest time to try them out but that they are worth the wait. I found one of my favorite restaurants having the same conversation (shout out to Darlene at Old School) Good food takes time. We waited. I'm so glad we did. What a great restaurant. Great staff. Went there this morning around 11:30am it was pretty crowded which wasn't a problem but they had every table opened except one when i proceeded to sit down I was told I couldn't even though every other table was occupied. Then it was 40 minutes wait which is understandable for a Saturday morning I just wish it was better time management. read more

Great place to get breakfast. Our waitress was very friends although we did feel like we were being rushed. We were asked to for box and bill half way through our food. They might be short staffed so just be patient. Fries were crunchy and my sandwich was good. I got the Reuben and it could use a little bit more sauce. read more

I work in the area and have driven past this place for years. Finally, one of my co-workers suggested we try it for lunch and we were pleasantly surprised. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but inside is a big open dining room! First time we went, I tried a cheeseburger and fries. They advertise that the beef is ground fresh daily and the fries are hand cut. Both were served piping hot, and were delicious! I was unable to finish the burger at lunch time, but it was perfect! I added cheese sauce to my fries and it was really tasty. Second visit, I decided to get breakfast. They are have a big omelet selection, but I wanted just a traditional eggs and meat breakfast. I had 2 eggs, 4 slices of bacon, cheesy (YES CHEESY HASHBROWNS), and rye toast for $5 and change! The cheesy hash browns were an option in place of regular hash browns....and I highly recommend them! It was basically, homemade cheesy potato casserole with shredded potatoes. So glad I had them! My co-workers have had philly cheesesteaks, chicken tender pita, chicken stir fry, and chicken noodle soup and all of it was very good. Service is very friendly, and they do a pretty quick turnaround on tables at lunch. read more

The definition of a "classic diner". Been going here pretty much weekly for the past 5 years and the food quality, along with their customer service, has NEVER ONCE disappointed. Going for breakfast? Try the "Very Special Breakfast". You won't be sorry and you won't be hungry for the rest of the day. They make a super solid cheese burger as well. ALWAYS MAKE YOUR FRENCH FRIES CHEESE FRIES! A nightmare because the food and service was terrible. I arrived early Sunday morning. Waitress was rude from the beginning. I went in to order and my wife called her order in. The Waitress took my Wife's order by phone in front of me and she was very rude saying" ok you said that already" in a condescending way. At that point I knew this wasn't going well. After the waitress hung up her phone she said "couldn't you have just told me her order" then shook her head. At that point I was thinking to myself this food better be top notch... To speed the story up my sausage was soft, plump and nasty and my wife's bacon was burned in her salad. THE KICKER.. I normally do pick ups, but the dine in experience was pleasurable as well. They're not priced like the normal city coney's, but the food is great! I do not prefer coney's across 8 Mile, but Dan's has the best omelettes EVER! read more
