I had problems with the HVAC not working at a house I own and after another outfit failed (expensively) to fix it, Nestor came in and correctly diagnosed it as having a dirty outdoor condenser unit, aside from just being old. They cleaned it out and it worked for a year. Then it failed entirely and they gave me prompt emergency help despite it being the weekend. I had them replace it with a new heat pump version. I'm a certified home inspector and Nestor installed my new AC and Furnace correctly. It was a BIG job. I trusted them to completely replace our system, and they did it quickly, efficiently and at a good price. And Nestor had followed up on multiple requests I had to make a couple of adjustments so that our new system was running perfectly. It's 95F today and our new Bryant AC is running COLD air and holds it's own. I got estimates from multiple providers who wanted to rip me off because my furnace was broken on the coldest day of the year. Nestor gave me an honest quote and didn't give me excuses like "I need to do extra sheet metal work" or "your system needs a new flue". He figured out what was the best midrange furnace and AC for our house and quickly installed it so our house wouldn't freeze up. His installation was up to code. The Nest thermostat didn't work at first but when I mentioned it wasn't working, he came back the next day and fixed it. The aC and furnace he installed are quiet and energy efficient. He also installed a high quality air filter. I looked for leaks in his duct work and I couldn't find any. He correctly set up the condensate drip line to extend 1 feet past the foundation of the home. I do wish he put a more sturdy mat for my aC, time will tell if it shifts and he has promised to come back if I need any adjustments. read more

Nestor did a excellent job replacing my HVAC system. The job was rather involved since It required converting from a hybrid furnace/heat pump system to an all electric heat pump system. He gave a lot of attention to detail and the end result was a nice clean installation with a well running American Standard HVAC unit that's working exactly the way I was hoping. It's noticeably more comfortable on my second floor this summer. Would definitely request his services again in the future. read more

It was very disappointing experience this time around, seems like a preplanned attempt to get us to replace the condenser which they have installed 7 years ago. They replaced the unit they recommended but now I learned that it is not excatly the same spec as the one we had but when I complaint about it, they want to have no further discussion. We selected RA HVAC over a couple somewhat cheaper quotes because of their great reviews for customer service and because we were so impressed with the professionalism of the staff who inspected our system and prepared the bid. We are so glad we did. They were a pleasure to work with and even though they found some additional issues during the install they didn't charge more beyond their original bid. The small amount extra we paid was worth every penny in terms of our confidence in the quality of the work and the ease of working with them. There were some hiccups with the thermostat they installed and they came back immediately and worked on it until they solved the problem -- no questions asked and no extra charge. ...I'm almost hesitant to give this review because this guy is the best-kept secret in the area and I don't want him getting so busy that I won't be able to use him in the future! My furnace was not firing up properly (Thermostat would call for heat, blower would come on, furnace would ignite for about 4 seconds then cutoff, repeat once, then blower would just run constantly until you powered down the furnace -- nice electric bill for that!) I was under maintenance with another company, who came out for the "No Heat" call, and their tech (that will be ANOTHER write-up) completely mis-diagnosed the issue and created other issues - didn't know all this at this point - came and recycled power and it started - said if it kept occurring I should consider replacing the HVAC unit (12 years old) because it meant the circuit board was going on the fritz. So - problem progressively gets worse - to the point I spend hours trying to get the gas furnace to fire up....figure - well I guess it's time for a new one. I start calling vendors to schedule appointments to quote me a new system..... First up, Michael Bonsby HVAC (you can read the 1-star write-up on them) - I explain what's happening and he says it's the flame sensor detector that's dirty - opens the unit, cleans it and the furnace fires right up, he identifies some potential issues that indicate the unit has other things that need to be cleaned / etc and that most places would prob. charge $750 - $1000 as its outside of standard maintenance. Closes up the unit and we go to discuss my options. (Little did I know that firing up the furnace with the panels opened allowed sufficient air to ignite - but trying to ignite with the panels CLOSED was the issue). Next day - furnace fails to light again (and again and again)..... I went looking here on Yelp for highly rated HVAC companies and came across RA HVAC and saw the glowing reviews of Nester (the owner). So I call him on a Friday AM, it's been snowing/sleeting/freezing rain - he says he can arrive 3pm - 5pm - gets here right at 5PM despite the nasty weather. ...looked at the system, and within FOUR MINUTES correctly ID'd the problem ---- which was that the air intake (which has a filter right before the furnace chamber ---- was CLOGGED with leaves (see picture - which we will discuss on the other vendor that I had a maintenance contract with). This was also contributing to the dirty flame sensor. Cleared the clog and Viola!!!! furnace works perfectly - Nester tells me I still have another 3 - 5 years before I need to consider a new one. The maintenance contract vendor had also drilled a hole in the EXHAUST to do some gas analysis AND DIDN'T PLUG IT - I had C0 spewing into the home when the furnace WAS lit. Nester correctly fixed that, also set up so the air intake can be more easily cleared, inspected the exhaust/air intake and made some additional recommendations to fix it so the pipes don't have these issues in the future. VERY Reasonable pricing and EXPERT diagnosis and service. Instead of looking at thousands and thousands of dollars, it didn't even cost me a couple of hundred to have a perfectly working furnace again. I cannot say enough good things about my experience working with Nestor from RA Home Services!! This company is a hidden gem, and I will recommend them to anyone I know looking for HVAC and Heating system services! Long story short to preface my working with RA: my 22-year-old outdoor A/C unit stopped working on Wednesday 7/27. I contacted Blue Dot, and worked with them all day on Thursday 7/28 to determine the issue (fan motor died, compressor running at too high of amps), and was quoted for a new A/C unit and coil install ($6500) to remedy the issue. I had no problem with this at the time, thinking that Blue Dot had done their due diligence and that my system was so old that it made sense to need a new unit. Contracts were signed and work was scheduled for Monday 8/1. I received a voicemail on Friday 7/29 from Blue Dot that my install had been cancelled due to my system being deemed "unserviceable." After getting back in touch with them, they confirmed that their Install Manager had looked at some photos taken of my system the day prior, and since the coil wasn't a standard size due to the age of the system the ductwork would have to be reworked to fit a new coil... and the only way for them to rework the ductwork would require moving my oil furnace. Blue Dot does not touch oil heating systems at all, so they confirmed that they would be unable/unwilling to do any work at all to my cooling system, aside from only replacing the fan motor ($1100). All work and service planned at that point was cancelled, and I was left with no plan and no service set up to fix my broken A/C, going into a weekend where I knew it would be difficult to get any service set up at all. I found RA Home Services on Yelp and saw that Nestor not only services HVAC but oil heating systems as well, so I had hoped that he'd be able to help where Blue Dot couldn't. I called in a bit of a panic, and Nestor was actually able to squeeze me in on the same day. He said he'd be at my house between 3 and 5, and made it there by 4:45. Within 5 minutes, he determined that the issue was actually a bad capacitor; 5 minutes later from that, he had the new, more powerful capacitor installed, and my A/C was back up and running!! He also took the time to clean leaves and debris out of my A/C unit, and checked out the crawlspace to make sure everything looked up to par there as well. When all was said and done, the work Nestor completed was only $325, compared to the $6500 that Blue Dot wanted to charge me! He was very personable and professional, and I really appreciated that he went out of his way to squeeze me in at the end of his workday; thanks to Nestor, my fiance, dogs, and I had a nice cool weekend :) Frankly, it worked out for the best that Blue Dot cancelled on me. I will now go back to Nestor and RA Home Service anytime I need any heating/cooling work done! And you can bet that when I actually do need my A/C unit replaced, I'll be reaching out to him then too. Nestor has done HVAC for two of my homes. He is fair, efficient, and reliable and I would not only recommend him but will continue to use him for all of my needs. In my rental home, my tenant complained about the heat not reaching the top floor, we had 3 HVAC companies come out to look at it, none could find a problem. Nestor came to the home 3 times in all -- once doing some duct work that was improperly installed and the other two to try to diagnose the problem. While he could have sold me a $3k wall unit he told me the best option was to install a fan to improve the air circulation. I appreciated his honesty and the solution quelled the concerns from my tenant. Nestor also helped me in a pinch get a property up for sale. Have an oil Boiler for heat with three zones two of which have AC units tied to the respective thermostats. Aquastat was not stopping at high limit and not controlling the circulator properly. Other techs have not been able to fix the problem. Nestor has background in Boilers, HVAC and Electrical. He determined that the problem was the low limit needed to be set to 0 since my boiler has a tankless water heater. Normally this would go to a storage tank with its own sensor for the aquastat. This tank was replaced with an electric water heater. Anyway this creates a problem and setting the low limit to 0 solved the problem, (after replacing the damaged Aquastat and expansion tank.)Highly recommend. No one else would have been able to diagnose this problem unless they had similar experience with Boilers, air conditioners and electric. Plus he is a pretty friendly dude. read more

Nestor and team from RA HVAC installed a second heat pump unit in our attic two weeks ago. First, thanks to the Yelpers that highly recommended them since that's how I selected him for an estimate. Now, my husband and I are pleased to be part of the RA HVAC fan club. I know it may sound cheesy, but when you find reliable, dependable and honest service men and women, you look no further. We had, or tried to schedule, other consults prior to Nestor. The first said they didn't do that work following a recommendation from a neighbor that had it done. The next didn't reply to messages. Two others showed up, one never replied back with an estimate and the other company flat out said they couldn't do it within 10 minutes of arriving. Never looked in the attic or walked our property. The good news is, I'm a believer that God sends you the right people at the right time. RA HVAC, Nestor, showed up, did all the checks, crawled in the attic and located a tattered electrical cord that needed repair we had no clue about. Never been up there in 10 years of living here. (see what I mean about God sending the right people?) He texted me the photo before he left and we got an electrician on it that week. Safety first! He gave us an estimate, ordered the equipment, scheduled a date and he and his team arrived and completed the work in 4 days. I've never written a review this long, but you have to understand the level of workmanship. He's a local Bowie businessman. Everyday his team arrived early. They cared for our floors and home. They were quiet, barely knew they were here. We had telework and kids had online school. It was hot in the attic. They wore masks and long sleeves. That space is extremely small. Each day they cleaned up and replaced the doors. Nothing was left inside or outside. Professionalism and care at it's best!! They removed a plant stub for the outside unit that looks better than the first. The system they installed is so quiet. It's above our bedroom. The vent is outside our door. Easy access to the filters. Craftmanahip!! We have vents in the ceiling now. You all have no idea how more efficient this will be for our home during tht spring and summer. He walked me around to point out all the work that was done, informed us what to do if this or that happens. I even asked him to schedule an additional appt to check our other unit. He returned and took care of that too! We got to chat a few times between. He's a family man, with a good team of guys. This review is over the top because his service is ranked at the top. I am SO fortunate that, and grateful to, RA HVAC for responding to repair my A/C system during the horrible recent heatwave! I couldn't be happier with the response, the work and the cost! I will never contact another provider for any HVAC problem! The back story is that I have a home warranty company that sent some seemingly considerate and knowledgeable IDIOT, (Luquickservice"), said it was a Freon leak and my entire system required replacement. Of course, the company denied the claim and he returned to add refrigerant and some type of sealant at $700 for the 7 lbs of Freon alone, that he claimed would fix the problem for "a few years" I have no idea what the total cost would have been; but, when I refused because of the cost he "offered" to do do it all for only $500. Deciding he was more likely a scammer than a savior I again refused. When the thermostat had read over 85 for 3 days, I could tolerate the heat no longer. I contacted RA HVAC stated my situation and he sent someone later the same day. By adding my home to his schedule it was 6:30 when he arrived - he was obviously putting in a very long hot day. That employee named Santos, was professional, efficient, friendly AND diagnosed the problem as a failed capacitor, (not a Freon leak!), which he fortunately had in his truck. He changed it, and repeatedly checked the temperature of the air flow until it was SIGNIFICANTLY low: less than 58 degrees before he considered the job complete. The total cost was nowhere close to what I would have paid -(including the $500 "offer")- for the original "idiot" whose work apparently wouldn't have been successful anyway since the problem was not the refrigerant, but the capacitor! And yes, I am canceling my contract with Choice Home Warranty, as this isn't the first time I've had problems with either the assigned repair worker or denial of the claim. read more

Nestor worked on my friend's home installing new HVAC and heat pump system. They were so pleased that I asked for an estimate for new HVAC for D-I-L's home. He walked me through a few problems with her HVAC and then we saw the dryer was vented into the chimney (a no-no). This made us wonder if the HVAC vented in chimney was done correctly. After viewing a couple more issues that other companies NEVER even mentioned, such as not using outdoor wiring and putting unit under porch instead of in the yard, I asked for an estimate. It was a totally fair estimate in line with replacing an HVAC system so I hired Nestor. They arrived on time and completed installation in one day, cleaned up and tested system/thermostat, cooling in each room and they even went on roof to determine if venting up chimney was done properly--it was, so he gave me a discount bc he didn't have to do that work. HONESTY and INTEGRITY are so important. Then he gave me a very fair estimate for properly venting the dryer to outside of home. It's a long distance so instead of flexible vent which holds lint, he's used metal tubing and allowing access every 8 feet so we can disconnect and easily vacuum annually. Not only are Nestor and his employees honest, they are extremely helpful and provide great advice and options. He'll be doing routine maintenance on this home as well as my own home bc I know he'll never try to take advantage. I highly recommend Nestor and his company. read more

My heat went out on an extremely cold day. The temperature in my house dropped down to 58 degrees. After waiting on hold with a big company in the area for about 30 minutes, I decided to call some smaller local companies. Nestor called me back within minutes from leaving a message. I called RA to get someone to come look at my air handling unit. My heat had stopped working, and I had no idea why. I called RA, left a message and my call was returned within the hour. Nestor said he had availability in a few hours, so I took him up on that. Once he got inside, it took about an hour for Nestor to diagnose and fix the problem. It turned out to be something super small that I totally should have been able to fix myself, but I'm going to blame that on being a naive new homeowner, and he only charged me the diagnostic fee. I have geothermal HVAC systems in my home. Few service repair companies work on or are familiar with geothermal. One of my HVAC units stopped producing heat and I finally found two companies and got quotes. The first vendor said that I needed a new compressor, which costs $4,500 and would take 4-5 weeks. Or he could install a completely new HVAC that could be installed in 2 days at a cost of $6,000. I called Nestor and he came out the next day and told me that I needed to replace the capacitor.
