I'm not normally one to write a bad review but man did I have a horrible experience at this place. First of all I called before coming to ask if anyone had time to do a full set, the lady on the other end of the phone said it would be about a fifteen minute wait but that I could come. I was seated pretty quickly, but then ignored for long periods of time while she hopped back and forth between me and 2 or more other clients. Why not tell me you're booked and to try again another day rather than letting me feel ignored when I called prior to make sure there was time for me? The nails I came in with wanting removed and redone, were done at home by myself. She told me I did a "very ugly job" and that they were very uneven and looked bad.... thanks, could have just not mentioned it. She was in such a frantic rush between servicing me and the two or three other clients previously mentioned she spilled acetone all over my hands and was tripping over things and knocking stuff over. I told her my nails were natural (I had spent months growing them out and protecting my length with dip powder) and that I did NOT want them cut off, she disregarded that and cut them ALL OFF, and then had attitude when I told her I didn't want my natural length cut off, only trimmed and reshaped nicely, and that now she would have to give me tips to make up for the lost length. Then she proceeded to give me nails that look almost as bad as what I came in with, an atrocious uneven acrylic application and a splotchy gel top coat that left my nails looking textured. I was ready to walk out when I was being ignored with my fingers soaking in acetone for long periods of time and frankly I regret not doing so, these people didn't deserve my money. read more

Wow, I loved this salon! It was very clean and inviting. Everyone is very friendly. The sister to the owner is really sweet and you can tell she enjoys what she does. They a good deal of $40 for a basic mani/pedi and $52 for a gel manicure and regular pedi. I opted for the latter service. They offered us hot towels and drinks (water, tea, soda) when we sat down, which was a pleasant surprise. My tech was very sweet and straightforward. She did a great job of properly cutting the nails, removing dead skin, and applying the polish. I love my gel manicure. 4 stars because my cousin's nail tech asked if she wanted a flower on her big toe without telling her it would cost an extra $5. If you're looking for a spa day to relax without having the other person trying to start small talk, then this place would be your go to. I got the T74 OPI Gel Manicure from Kevin which came out to be approx $27. First you get a bowl of water with orange slices to soften your cuticles. Then you get a hot towel to cleanse and steam your hands. There were folks waiting for over 20 minutes but Kevin took his time to double check and make sure that each nail was cut and filed to perfection. I had a great experience the first time I visited R Nail Spa. I had the gel dip and my nails looked fantastic. When I went there over the weekend, I had the opposite experience. I asked for a gel spa pedicure ($55) and gel manicure ($27). There was no one in the salon, yet they decided to do my hands and feet at the same time -- I will never do this again. For $55 I expect my feet to be soft and callous-free for at LEAST a week. My gel manicure has already begun peeling off and as a new mom with a busy schedule I don't have the time to stop back in to have it corrected. She kept having to answer the phone which made her forget where she was. The color I picked out did not match the sample so I will be going over my powder dip with nail polish to achieve the look I want. Returning to the Rochester area after a 20 year absence I spent the last few months on a search for a nail salon and after 3 unsuccessful attempts I landed at R Nails. I made an appointment for an acrylic fill because I prefer to be expected rather than take my chances on accommodation. I base my choice on location (this salon is only a 15 min drive from my home) and previous reviews (thank you, internet) though some reviews are rather dated. This salon is only about a year old (I learned this after the owner was kind enough to recognize and chat with me); it's spacious, well appointed and appeared very clean. There is a generous parking area and is easy in, easy out. I was greeted when I entered, offered a drink and it was explained they were a bit behind and I might have to wait a few minutes. I'm fine with that; there is polish to pick out from a very large selection in neat rows. There are magazines, an unobtrusive television and the wait was only brief. I saw printed lists of services which were extensive. I don't expect my nails to be done exactly to my preference the first time I visit (yes, I'm picky)but I do appreciate when the technician is willing to listen to my request and do her best to accommodate. "My Lan" was gracious and gentle, friendly and there was just enough conversation to keep me from falling asleep. All the employees seemed very pleasant and looked like they all got along well. I felt comfortable enough with my nail experience to request a pedicure. I was offered the menu of many different kinds of pedicures but I opted for my usual. The chair was very comfortable and again, My Lan did exactly as I asked, checking often about my comfort. Though I feel it should be fair, fortunately pricing is not my first concern. The bill was explained to me when presented and they pleasantly accepted a credit card (in other salons they practically spit on it). I always leave a tip in cash. All in all, I feel very pleased that I found a place I look forward to visiting again; it's very professional in a friendly way and thank goodness because for a time I considered giving up on nail services altogether. I've been to this location a couple times and overall I like them and would go back. However, it you are going for a special event, I would avoid the gentlemen working there. I went last week to get my nails done before a wedding I was going to and got a gel manicure. One week in, two of my nails are already chipped and the polish on half my nails don't go all the way down, so they look grown out already. He also didn't cut my nails straight, which you can't tell with polish on, but I can tell when I look at them and he left a couple of my edges sharp. I didn't complain while I was there because I don't like to be difficult, but after spending $30, I would expect for my nails to hold out at least a week out.
