Super-cute little bar that has special events and live music from time-to-time. Friendly employees, a lovely little outdoor area and a small upstairs area. It's tiny so just know that before visiting. It's conveniently located downtown so it's a great place to dash into for a drink, and if there's good music playing there's never been a cover that I've experienced so you can just sit there and enjoy. There are drink specials and sometimes event-themed drinks to go along with whatever is happening that evening. read more

While attending a concert at the Rialto, we had a couple of beers here. Our bartender was very friendly. The backdrop on the inside wall is amazing! The solar eclipse scene is something and worth coming to take a look. My camera did not do it justice. I Love, Love, Love this place, and the fact that it is all red is why I used that word so many times. From floor to ceiling every detail is thought of, and just so right and funk. The steel lasered mural depict all that is wonderful about Tucson, using every cliche piece of bad yard art sold in those creepy art fairs. There are the howling coyotes, the baby quail following their mother, A Mountain, Saguaros, and much much more, This is all delivered in over the top Fabulosity. This is a precious bar recently opened in the alley just east of Rialto. It's contemporary, with a lovely red hue. While it is loud, it is not obnoxious. It, at times, can be quite romantic. And it is a strong draw for people who like to show all out in their bow ties and bodycon dresses. A group of us arrived celebrating the birthdays of two in our party. While it was somewhere around 11 p.m., we were able to get seated quickly. One boon to this bar is that there is a wonderful host, Richard, who floats about to ensure that your needs are met. What a wonderful touch! Another bonus: you can order from Gio Taco while at the bar. Management has an agreement set up but the restaurant. Good deal! Also, be attentive to the mural. R Bar, what a fantastic little spot in downtown. I started coming here shortly after moving to Tucson and I must say, it really has a Tucson feel. Quality drinks, good patio seating, and unique interior. I love the metal artwork they have on the back wall. It's a mural of everything Tucson. The dim lighting is really nice. I definitely think their mixed drinks are the best thing to get. My favorite is the rialtor (think Moscow mule but less sweet and more tart/acidic). I don't think I've ever had a bad drink here. The bar manager(looks like post Malone) seems to know how alcohol and his staff as well. The drinks aren't anything special and they don't have food. Word of advice about their bathroom: it looks like people can see you going to the bathroom behind the big screen... they can't. We went on a Saturday night and they did not have table service so you had to order at the bar. The "bartender" seemed as though she had never made a cocktail before and was not very friendly. Came here as the last stop for a bar hopping Bachelorette party and I wish we had gone there sooner! I think this will be a new favorite bar for myself, the bride, and my roommate. Everything is red! It gives the place a very unique atmosphere. And I really liked that they had an old black and white movie projected on the wall. The bartenders were quick, looked really nice (on the way they dressed and they were nice to look at ;) haha) and boy do they know how to make a drink! A lot of places skimp in the booze in favor of mixers/flavors, but not here! But the liquor flavor wasn't overwhelming either. They have a list of speciality drinks, but will make whatever you want. Their beer selection is adequate, nothing too spectacular, but they won't break the bank and you can get your craft beer fill if you're not too picky. Happy hour pricing is the bomb here, and I personally love the all red theme they got goin on. When you want a a good dirty martini this is a good place. We usually like to stop off here before heading into downtown on a Friday/Saturday night. The music is always good and it usually gets pretty crowded here on the weekends. Great place to let loose and dance with your friends inside. The outdoor patio is spacious so if you go with a group you will have places to sit or stand and enjoy the night. I came here on Monday for happy hour. I was meeting with a couple of people to go over some business, and we decided to try out this new bar. Oh my goodness i loved it! Finding it in the alley is a little uneasy since it just doesn't seem like this nice of a place would be over there. There is a patio space with tables and chairs, and then you walk in right next to the bar. The bartender greeted me immediately and told me a bit about the place, and gave me a menu. I loved that they had menus because I can never tell what the taps are. I had dragoon's ojo blanco. Very delicious, I liked that they had many local brews. The entire place is red in color, which is cool and unique. There was a weird old movie playing on the wall. I didn't quite understand that and thought it was distracting. When my colleagues arrived, one decided to order chips and guac to share. These arrived via Gio Taco courrier. I think you can order whatever from there, which is really cool. It definitely allowed us to stay there longer since we had chips to munch. As the bar filled more it still remained pretty quiet, which is so hard to find in Tucson. I hate bars that just want to be loud and play loud music all the time. It's always impossible to talk. After my friends left, I stayed and had another beer and read my book. My first visit to the R Bar was with coworkers on a pleasant evening, and we sat outside on the patio, which is mainly an alley connected to Rialto. No service to tables so you go to the bar and and there are many kinds of cool wild drinks to order. I had a couple of Manhattans and they serve them up so strong! Really really strong and tasty. Had a cream ale and some Oatmeal Stouts and they were quite delicious. The inside of the bar is the best part- just go and check out the mural and the attention to detail of Tucson landscapes. And what an experience using the bathroom with that giant television screen showing anime (I think it was anime) on it. Anyway, you'll have to experience it. I'd go back! It was busy but never overwhelming and the bartenders were good about finding you to get your drink requests. The drink menu boasts of a variety of craft cocktails, vino and beer. So there's something for all to enjoy! Go for The Rialtor if you're a fan of anything with ginger like me. The ginger, cardamom and lime combo hit the spot for an interesting cocktail that was very easy to enjoy. Seating is a bit limited when it's crowded, but the patio is great for larger groups. Plus I'm down for anywhere playing The Goonies on their tv! I really dig this bar. For the longest time I could not figure out where it was because it's tucked away in an alleyway and loosely connected to the theater. I got to stop in here after I saw a show and instantly fell in love. I say instantly because my favorite color is red and turns out that "R" stands for Red, that or it's a very big coincidence. I absolutely love the decor! I've seen pictures of it but they did not do it justice at all. It's absolutely stunning. A must see for anyone and everyone! Even the faucet and toilet seat handle were red. I love that there's a little theater like second floor for seating. I like that there's outside seating but there was heavy smoking so it was hard to enjoy. I like the tables inside, and cozy seating. I didn't get a good look at their beer selection but there wine list appeared pretty good and varied. The noise level was moderate, I can see it getting pretty rowdy with a larger crowd. I believe they offered a cheeseboard and maybe something else but we were not there for food. It's definitely a place to stop in before or after the show for a quick relaxing drink and to check out more of the local scene. I will definitely be returning, hopefully I can give five stars but I didn't feel like I got the whole picture the first time. I am very impressed though! read more

I would like to think that we were just unlucky and got the wrong bartender to serve us because the cocktails we drank were possibly the worst drinks we have ever ordered. We were wandering around Tucson when we stumbled upon R Bar tucked away in the alley. The three of us thought the outside seating area looked cool and reminiscent of places we've been to in Europe. Well, the experience we had taught us to never judge a bar by its cover. We sat at the bar and ordered two cocktails from the menu. After watching the bartender crush some ice in a pouch and vigorously shake the cocktail shaker for awhile, we thought we were going to get some refreshing alcoholic treats. The end results were nothing but disappointing and quite shocking in taste. We ended up taking couple of sips and leaving the drinks behind. I don't think I have the courage to try this bar ever again considering there are many places to drink around the area. read more

Stopped in for the first time over the weekend and can say that this is my favorite bar after Club Congress. It's a small, chill bar, not overly crowded, and the atmosphere is romantic: red decorations, candles on the tables, and a metal mural of the Tucson scenery lit up with lighting. There is seating up stairs, around the bar and outdoors. Drink prices are reasonable and they have nightly specials, my group had the Hula Hoop and Marlon Brando (both were citrusy). Came in for a drink before Built to Spill last week. Nice little hideaway bar to hang out during openers/between sets, as you can hear the music pretty well. Convenient to be able to slip out the side door of Rialto and get a drink here rather than pay $8 inside. While the prices were a bit steep for beer, they had a good selection and the bartenders were cool. It gets crowded, so you'll probably have to stand a while and push your way through for a drink, if you're not the aggressive type. But overall, nice spot in the alleyway next to Rialto. Good outdoor seating and cool decor/giant screen playing movies. Wouldn't make this a regular spot unless I was a swanky downtown dweller. But will definitely come back during another show. If your favorite color is red, you'll love this place. If you have a weird phobia of red, take this as a red alert. read more

When I'm seeing a show at the rialto, I love being able to step outside and order drinks and beer that aren't the standard mega conglomerates; however, when I am not seeing a show I don't enjoy paying LA prices in Tucson for drinks. I will give them that their wine and tap lists are expansive and eclectic, but they are usually not things you can't get at tap and bottle, Mr heads, and/or hop shop. Not a judgment, just not a fan of their prices. I do love their menus, which offer great descriptions of each beverage, including a look at how the beer and wine are rated along several criteria. For the epicureans. I also love their upstairs and the cool vibe that the projector screen provides. This is not usually a place I choose to go unless I'm seeing a show or am invited out from someone who is there already. Though when I do go I usually enjoy it. read more

The place definitely has a big city-type ambience, reminiscent to me of a hipster Chicago bar in Wicker Park. This bar screams Arizona & I'm absolutely in love with the decor. From the cactus light-fixtures to the Arizona/Tucson wall art, it just screams Arizona! That wall alone is what makes the bar come together and one big piece of artwork that captures the desert all in one mural. I agree with many of the reviews, the bartenders are not the most friendly. They do have an annoyed demeanor when you order a drink. And the drinks are way overpriced and not that great.
