After all the work was completed, I picked up the car. As I drove out of the parking lot, I immediately heard a rattling sound in the left rear area that I had never heard before. I kept for a few days to see if I could identify the source of the noise. I did not find anything but found that the air cleaner hose was not reconnected and the battery box were not secure (the air filter and battery were replaced in this service visit). I took the vehicle back to the shop. They told me the rattling noise was somewhere behind interior panels and that I needed to take it to a body shop. I took it to my body shop and they removed interior panels and inspected. They found no issues but believed it was in the left rear suspension. They gave me the name of a shop that specializes in foreign cars. I took it there and the found loose bolts on the left rear suspension. Fortunately, I was able to get the body shop and VW mechanic not to charge me for that particular trouble shouting. The mechanic was going to charge me $200 for the troubleshooting. I went back the shop that installed the shocks asking for a refund of the $200 it would have cost me as compensation for all the difficulties (leaving the car at 2 other shops and the transportation to and from the shops over the course of two weeks). They refused and offered me a discount on my next service. WHY WOULD I EVEN WANT TO GO BACK!

I read some much older reviews about dishonesty and let me be the one to assure you that present day Dan's Automotive is the ONLY shop I will ever take my car to again. I drive a 2017 VW Beetle and he's getting on in mileage, which of course in turn means weird noises and things I won't pretend to know anything about. Dealerships in the past could tell me I needed a new go pedal and flying lemur to make my tires move and I would have left not only purchasing both but with absolutely no further understanding. At Dan's, their lead technician Jarrod broke everything down Barney style with more patience than I deserved. I didn't feel stupid about asking questions and he explained to me the WHY!! Also, no ridiculous up-selling. He told me about things I'll need later on but does not leave me in any immediate dangerous driving conditions. Key point here - I actually got to speak with the guy who worked on my vehicle, my car runs better than ever before, AND I'm more knowledgeable because of it all. Remember that Euro car parts are expensive and your auto technician absolutely deserves the rate they charge here (it's competitive and fair with the absolute benefit of no cut corners in my opinion). I also truly feel that this team is just amazing in general and totally experienced, those toolboxes are worth more than my house for sure, lol. Oh! I was driving through from California in my way to my next duty station (Marine Corps) when I heard…read morea pop and a soft grinding in one of my wheels. It was just barely audible but I'm pretty weary about that kind of thing. The closest auto repair shop to us just happened to be Old Tow Tire and Automotive so we went there. I grew up in Rio Rancho but had never heard of the place. When we got inside we told them our situation and they were the friendliest staff of technicians and mechanics I have ever met. I do NOT like mechanics and usually do whatever it takes to avoid having someone other than myself make repairs on my vehicles but this staff went out of their way to squeeze us in to a packed schedule and began working on our vehicle almost immediately. They checked the tires and found that one of my front bearings in my front wheels had gone out. Rather than just telling me (like a regular mechanic) they brought the parts inside and showed me. I authorized the replacement of both of the front bearings as a precaution for a total of around 1000$ of parts and labor. (The entire hub had to be replaced not just the bearing). My wife and I waited for a little while but we ended up going to old town to walk around and see some of the New Mexico history and shops while we waited. Old town tire gave us a ride over there. We returned to the shop at around the time they told us they would be finished. They had repaired the front two hubs and asked me if I wanted the good news or the bad news. I asked for the bad. They told me that they inspected the rear hubs as well and that one of those had also gone out. I asked for the good news. They told me that they would be replacing it free of charge but that it would keep us there beyond their closing time. We had told them earlier that we had dinner arrangements with family in Albuquerque up on tramway and they remember this and offered to buy us an Uber to make our timeline while they continued to repair our vehicle (after they closed, something I have never seen a mechanic do). We made our reservation with our family and they called to let us know the vehicle was finished and that they had made arrangements for us to pick up the vehicle after hours. My wife and I are so thankful for the help and kindness that the staff at old town tire gave us. They have my highest recommendation.

I called Brown's Automotive Experts and spoke with a man named Chris (at the 6401 Signal Ave NE / Far Northeast Heights location). Chris mentioned he has four daughters of his own and assured me he would "take care of her." That reassurance meant a lot in the moment. He called back with the diagnosis: one cracked spark plug causing the misfire. He then immediately recommended replacing all spark plugs plus a fuel-injection service--totaling $1,800. I asked for the price to replace just the spark plugs; he quoted $1,300. I explained we couldn't afford that and requested they replace only the one cracked plug so she could safely reach school and we could plan the rest later. Chris refused. The shop would not do a single spark-plug replacement. It was pay $1,300 for the full set or just the diagnostic fee--and they'd send her back on the road with the flashing light and misfire still active. They were ready to release a teenage driver with a known engine issue rather than perform the minimal, diagnosed repair. This felt like blatant upselling that took advantage of her vulnerability and my concern as a parent 150+ miles away.
