I had about an hour before my next meeting, and I vaguely remembered stopping somewhere in ABQ to get the emission done with no frills. I ended looking where I went and decided last minute to go to the same place, Brillon Brothers Car Wash and Emission Test! The service was still exceptional. There was just 1 car ahead of me and I was in and out of the shop within 15 min with some time to spare before my next meeting. It was so efficient and I felt very happy with my decision to get this thing done last minute and the time well spent there. I loved that I didn't have to book anything ahead of time. The price for emission testing was super affordable ($15 all-in with Yelp check-in discount, $15.95+tax if you aren't checked in on Yelp...so still very affordable anyways!). Aside from such fast services and affordable prices, the staff was nice, polite and kind. If you need emissions tests to satisfy DMV's requirements, go here! Very affordable. When I mentioned they had such good prices + fast service, the guy who helped me with the testing mentioned they wanted to maintain honesty and great service...and actually a lot of their customers were nearby AFB, too..so they have a great local crowd who keep using them!

Low and behold here we are tire screeching into the parking lot at the very last minute just to get it done (not really just wanted to add to sense of urgency). Being very urgent on the timing I knew my options. Wait for hours at the state mvd, hit up mvd express with the possibility of still a wait, or hit up MVD and get it done with minimal wait. Honestly if I wasn't crunched for time these days I would've probably hit up the express but seeing as the lack of time available I figured I'd pay the extra 10 bucks. Money well spent! Soon as I walked in the door I was greeted and immediately taken care of. The process took about 10 min and I was out the door. They have a stiff $30 fee they tack on but in these circumstances it was well worth the convenience of prompt service. Thanks again MVD Now!

We went here on a Saturday morning to register our new Camper Van and it was an unpleasant…read moreexperience. There were relatively few people there but there were only two staff and the supervisor had locked herself out of her computer because she'd forgotten her password. I worked in tech for 25 years and it happens occasionally, but you call someone to reset your password. You don't sit around helplessly when you have 10 people waiting. Beyond that she seemed very chaotic and disorganized. It took her 10 minutes just to take our names and another 10 to start helping us. But THEN after her confusing and chaotic help we had to wait another 10 minutes for the one active employee to process our info. SHE was very efficient. Another woman had been at the counter when we came in and was waiting for her daughter to come in to finish the transaction. Apparently the chaotic supervisor had missed this conversation and rudely interrogated the woman about why she was there. It was such a bad experience that I opted for a main MVD branch when I had to do update my driver's license. I understand that bureuacratic work like this is difficult but it's more difficult when the person you're relying on for help is chaotic and inneficient.

I mean, I understand how bureaucracy and oversight can cripple efficiency, but there can't be a better source of dependable revenue than the regulation and licensure of motor vehicles. The fact that I've endured so many customer service nightmares at our local MVD locations, and now rely strictly on private competition (MVD Now), is downright sad. You'd think the state could get more involved in emissions testing, as well, but with backyard operations like A 2 Z, it's hard to believe they could ever compete. This business, accessible only via Montaño eastbound between 2nd and Edith, claims a test will take 10 minutes or less. In my case, it took about three minutes (there wasn't a line out the door, however, and I do drive a Prius, so y'know, you could pretty much drink the exhaust). If you pay cash it's $17, an extra dollar charge for credit. The guy was friendly and obviously super efficient, and paperwork was a breeze. I didn't ask about detailing, but it looks like this obviously homegrown operation is doing an excellent job competing with the bureaucrats.

This was the closest emissions testing near me, but I would drive an additional 20 miles somewhere else just to be greeted and treated like a human being with courtesy and respect.
