TLDR: Problems with responsiveness and communication. Unable or unwilling to acknowledge or take in how they've been treating their customers. Makes me wonder if it's all just an attempt to upsell. Wouldn't recommend. R&M came to my house for standard HVAC maintenance visits in March and September of 2025. They seemed to be reasonably priced. I can't speak to their competence in conducting these visits because they didn't find anything wrong with the system, and it's hard to evaluate their expertise under those circumstances. During the September visit, the technician said that I should have my ducts cleaned at some point during the following year, and that the technique they used would require them to remove all of the registers in the house and probably damage the surrounding paint, requiring repainting. I have been considering moving, and I thought it would make sense to wait on the duct cleaning, since I would repaint the rooms before putting the house up for sale, and any prospective buyers would be happier with vents that had been freshly cleaned. Six months after I was told I should have a duct cleaning within a year, it was time for my spring maintenance again. I called R&M at 1:23 pm on March 26, 2026 using the number I had saved in my phone from calling them to schedule in the past and got a weird automated message before it even rang asking me to tell it who I am so it could see whether the recipient would take my call. I thought there might have been a mistake with the connection, so I hung up, checked the number, and called back about a minute later, getting the same message. I told the automated voice who I was, and waited. Then I was told the recipient wouldn't take my call but I could leave a voicemail message, which I did. I left my name and reason for my call, and told them my phone number twice. When I didn't receive a call back, I thought there might be a problem with their phones, so I looked up their email on their website, and sent an email to their listed address (info@rmaircontrol.com) at 11:42 am on March 31 saying I had left a message that wasn't returned and I wanted to schedule my spring maintenance. I got no response. I wondered if they had closed, so I checked them out on Yelp and saw that they were supposedly still in business. I sent them a message through Yelp at 4:44 pm on April 2, saying I had tried to get in touch previously by phone and email, hadn't heard back, and that I would appreciate a response. Their response at 8:40 pm on April 2, which was forwarded to an old email account associated with Yelp that I rarely use anymore, said that their estimate was $95 and "We have the week available." When I sent them a message a few days later -- HI - Thanks for getting back to me. I'm not sure what timeframe "the week" is. What is the best way to get in touch with you to talk about specific times for scheduling a maintenance visit? Thanks -- they sent a message back at 9:03 am on April 6 that said "I do have availability from next week Tuesday." My reply sent later the same day said, "Do you mean tomorrow the 7th or the following Tuesday the 14th? This is getting to be a frustrating experience. Before we move forward, will you please tell me why you didn't answer my phone call or return my phone message, didn't answer my email sent to the address on your website, and are refusing to give me contact info to have a phone conversation with you about scheduling? This is very a very different experience than in previous years." They said, "We're sorry, but every time we email you back on a response it takes you several days so we do get booked up very fast." They subsequently sent me a message on Yelp alleging that I had never before emailed or called them or used their company for services, which is untrue. I have verified payment to them and an invoice from R&M Air Control. So I sent an email to the same email address I emailed them at before (used the "reply" function) with a copy of my original email to them on March 31 and a screenshot of my cellphone log showing I had called them on March 26. Their email reply (which proves my original email was to a working account controlled by R&M) to me said only "4/14 after 2 address," which is kind of disturbingly incoherent. I'm not sure what this was supposed to mean. They have left me wondering if they are reasonably priced and initially responsive to try to get you to buy a service that costs many hundreds of dollars, only to blow you off if you don't immediately take them up on it, or if they are just extremely incompetent, disorganized, and unable to communicate in any kind of reasonable way with their clients. In either case, I don't recommend them. Can you imagine what it would be like working with them if an actual repair issue arose? I wouldn't want to. I'm frustrated because now I have to look for a new HVAC company, and prices go up the later in the season you schedule this kind of maintenance. Very disappointing. read more

Ramesh installed a Mitsubishi minisplit for me 2 years ago. I noticed this weekend that the outdoor unit was falling off of the pump ups, and essentially was simply sitting loosely on these pump ups. There were no screws, bolts, etc. securing the outdoor unit to anything. Because of this, the outdoor unit begun to shift and fall off of the pump ups. I called Ramesh to come back and repair the work, and he told me that someone must have knocked it off, and he refused to fix his shoddy work. He also told me that screws were not necessary, and that the glue he placed was sufficient. I showed him the screw holes on the feet, and he said that those are not screw holes.... huh?? I am now filing a complaint with the DLLR/HVACR against this contractor who is, in my opinion, not honest and does not stand behind his work. Update: Ramesh is now threatening legal action against me for slander. read more

Ramesh's customer service and troubleshooting is A1!!! Wednesday, April 28 was our first true hot day of the season at 88 degrees. All day I had my windows and doors to my house open in attempts to catch any outside breezes. Toward late afternoon, it became muggy inside my house. I switched my Nest thermostat to Heat/Cool from Heat. I heard the fan turn on and I felt cool air for a couple of minutes. Not noticing right away the cool air stopped by way of the fan turning off, I went to my Nest app to turn down the temperature, which I did a couple more times thinking my house's inside temperature may not be that high causing the thermostat not to turn the A/C on. 5 minutes later, I check my Nest thermostat and noticed I'm getting a weird picture on the screen and an error code. Anyone who is a home owner knows, "If it's not one thing, it's another." A saying I've always heard in my house when I was younger. I googled the error code to find out it is associated with the Y1 wire receiving too much current. I went through all the Nest troubleshooting steps on the website and did not find a solution. I also read several forums stating the issue was a bad contactor, which I thought was the point of contact between the wire and the Nest board. I take pride in my troubleshooting ability and willingness to not only learn, but solve problems. This problem definitely was stumping me and I was not comfortable messing around with my A/C unit outside. I always take my time to find a professional in a specific area of expertise, and I always read the reviews on Yelp! This time was no exception. I finally came across R&M Air Control. I specifically searched for reviews that mentioned smart thermostats. This helped ease my mind in the event the technician couldn't find fault in my system and simply put blame on a faulty thermostat. My family and I suffered through the night with all the windows open and bedroom fans on high. Thursday morning, I called Ramesh around 9a. He answered, I provided the issue in detail, and he requested I send him pictures of my thermostat, A/C, and drainage. He mentioned it may be a drainage block up causing the system to shut off. His suggestion was to call Nest as well. I sent the pictures and called Nest customer service. Nest was helpful and willing to help troubleshoot, but ultimately told me to call an A/C technician because it was my Y1 wire. I called Ramesh back and he said he could come say day around 8p or Friday around 3p. I could not foresee another hot night in my future, so I emphatically said, "8p works if you are willing to come out!" Ramesh came early around 6p with another technician. They both wore masks. He looked at my thermostat and said it's probably the internal battery. 1. I didn't know the thermostat had an internal battery. 2. In my research, this did not come up as a problem or solution. I was skeptical immediately. The two gentlemen troubleshooted my A/C system from the thermostat wiring to by pass the thermostat and successfully turn the system on. We know it's not the system per se. They went in my basement, tested the wires to find out the amps to the Y wire was very high. They went outside to my A/C unit, removed the cover, and continued troubleshooting. This all happened within 20 minutes. All the while outside, I was talking to my next door neighbor. Another 10 minutes Ramesh was putting on a new contactor, which was causing the issue. Power was turned back on, and the A/C was working perfectly! Our 20 year old AC unit finally died so I got a couple estimates for the job. Out of five estimates Ramesh was the lowest, and he quoted me a flat price up front for the job. He arrived promptly and got to work with a couple helpers. The install went fine and we finally have actual cool air in the house for the first time in a week! When settling the bill he explained what the paperwork that came with the new AC was and what information to register with the company to ensure our warranty. He also kept to his quoted price despite spending some extra time sorting out some poorly-done work on our furnace (done by another company). Ramesh has kept our furnace functional and was able to get it running after it quit twice over the past 2 years during some of the coldest winter days in the DC area. Ramesh is certainly busy and can't always come out right away, but if you are patient, he will get to you eventually. Plus he is MUCH more affordable than other "mega" HVAC companies in the area who have high overhead and tend to charge much more, try to upsell you, and get you on their "maintenance" plans. R&M doesn't do that. For example, Ramesh recently saved me over $900 on a furnace repair (compared to what another "large" HVAC contractor was going to charge me). R&M does quality work and stands by that work, no questions asked. I find it very easy to talk to Ramesh and he is obviously a master at his craft. I can highly recommend R&M to come through in the "clutch" if you are willing to be patient and a bit more flexible when making an appointment. read more

Ramesh really goes above and beyond. My furnace was making some squealing noises on Sunday, so I looked at Yelp on Sunday night and settled on contacting R&M. Ramesh got back to me in a few minutes and told me he could come out Monday morning. He quickly diagnosed the problem as the blower fan and told me I'd likely need to replace it soon, though because I was going out of town in two days and it was still working (if really noisily), he thought I could wait until I returned the following week. But that night, the fan died completely. My wife, our newborn, and I were home together in a very drafty and cold house. Ramesh to the rescue! When I contacted him at 7:00 in the morning on Tuesday, he called back a few minutes later and offered to drop off two space heaters. He also told me that he had looked into the fan part and my furnace model details and realized that it would be under warranty. He had already contacted a distributor in Richmond and filled out the paperwork to expedite the part up to DC. The blower arrived Wednesday and he immediately brought it over and installed it. What I had imagined would be a couple of days without heat (not to mention the fact that a dogsitter was scheduled to stay at our house the week we were out of town, and I really did not know what we would do if heat were not restored for her) was easily averted thanks to Ramesh's going the extra mile to deliver the space heaters and expedite the replacement of the blower fan. If you are looking for a deeply knowledgeable and trustworthy HVAC professional who loves his job and goes the extra mile for his customers, look no further than Ramesh. We interviewed at least 5 different contractors for a major project, which involved running new gas lines to our kitchen and two fireplaces on opposite ends of our home, as well as some air duct work. When Ramesh came by and impressed us with his knowledge, humorous can-do attitude, and extremely high standards, we knew we had found the right man for the job. Ramesh was the only technician who suggested running gas pipes through our attic. Others had suggested using a propane tank on the hard-to-reach side of the home, or running pipes straight across the brick back side. When asked about this latter option, Ramesh opined with his hallmark charismatic chuckle: "If this were my home and anyone suggested that, I'd smack them." All jokes aside, this instance illustrates perfectly how Ramesh treats his customers: he genuinely has their best interest at heart. They are like family to him. Ramesh pressure-tests all his piping to a standard that is way higher than the local utility requires. During the project, Ramesh noticed that the locks on our backyard gates didn't align and lock into place perfectly. So he fixed them without even asking us. He brought to our attention that there were a couple of loose straps on our pool cover because he didn't want anyone to trip over them. He brought an extra pair of carbon monoxide alarms before the inspection, just in case we needed them. He even double-checked something he noticed about the work of another contractor. It is extremely rare to find this type of proactive problem-solving in a contractor. Ramesh breathes it and thrives on it every day. He really loves what he does. You can also tell that he is an honest family man with strong values. He often brought his son Brian along, and his other main technician Dwight was great, as well. They all care first and foremost about doing a great, high-quality job, for an extremely reasonable price (our project took a little longer than anticipated, and yet they honored the original estimate). They worked hard and came by late when they needed to -- the day we passed inspection, they came by after 8 PM to turn on the fireplaces, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that you could literally see a giddy, boy-like spark of joy in Ramesh's eyes when the gas logs lit up. In the furniture industry, people sometimes talk about brands that stand the test of time as "buy it for life". I strongly feel that Ramesh falls into an equivalent category as a contractor -- as our HVAC guy, he is hired for life. My AC went out late Friday evening. I called RM at 5:30am and Ramesh followed up with a call at 8am and showed up rather quickly that day. He had all the parts he needed to replace my condenser fan, he didn't try to up-sell me, and he cleaned my outdoor unit and used digital gauges to ensure it was operating at peak capacity. Fantastic service, and I would definitely recommend them. They were very responsive to my messages via Yelp messaging and I was able to book an appointment through it, while I was out of town. My HVAC drain pan and pipe was clogged with debris and dust so the system was automatically switched off by the sensor in the drain pan. Ramesh explained to me what the issue was and what he was going to do to clean it. Within 20 minutes or so, the system was up and running again. He also suggested some great tips on how to prevent any more issues. Ramesh and his assistant Santiago are awesome! My AC unit went out the night prior. I contacted R&M Air Control on Yelp messaging at 6:38AM the following morning and received a response 7 minutes later stating Ramesh would be able to stop by that very same day. Ramesh came and thoroughly diagnosed the issue, stated I'd need a thermostat and the furnace blower motor replaced. He didn't have the motor on his truck and said he'd need to get it from the supply store and come back the following morning. As distressed as I was after hearing that I'd have to suffer another day and night in 85 degree summer heat and humidity, I received another call an hour and a half later stating he had picked up the motor and was headed back for the install in 10 minutes! Ramesh and Santiago rolled in again as a team and knocked out the replacement in about 30 minutes and had me back in business before I knew it. Ramesh easily out-services and out-classes all the other AC service technicians I've encountered. Not once in the past had I ever received a response so quickly, gotten same day service, and had my issue resolved all in a matter of a few hours. Ramesh's prices are also completely reasonable.
