From the moment I walked into this place, I knew I had found what I was looking for in an Irish pub. The place was very busy but the staff all seemed to be well prepared for it to be that way. They were direct and friendly which is a perfect combination for me. The food was great! It's rare that I find a great shepherds pie these days but this one knocked it out of the park. Not some crazy spin on it, no weird additions to "enhance" it, just a great dish. The French onion soup on the other hand did have a twist with the Guinness recipe for the broth. And that worked out perfectly. The only thing I'm sad about is noticing the Lamb Pie special after I had already eaten. In a place that makes food this well, FOMO is real. A friend recommended this place so when we were traveling through we had to stop. Really nice selection of UK beers as well as domestic and other country's too. I had the Fish and Chips and it was really great. The chips (fries) were brilliant. The fish was HUGE and very good. Wife had the cottage pie and it also was a huge portion. Service was excellent. This little pub was so authentic and had such a cozy vibe. Small and quaint like you're in the U.K. There absolutely HAS to be a Brit in the kitchen! If you decide to dine at Quips, you absoulutely must order their Sticky Toffee pudding and there is enough to share for two or three people. OHMYGAWD it was mesmerizing good. So good, that we'll be back, for more and more and possibly, more, with a side of cornedbeef and cabbage. Now, to my main - cornedbeef and cabbage, which although was good; it was served lukewarm, in an oniony ale broth. Nothing beats a steaming mound of mashedtatoes (wishful thinking). The cornedbeef was tender, flavorful - cabbage was cut in shards, rather than leaves (which I'm accustomed too); everything was almost perfecto, except for the oniony ale broth and lukewarm temps. My husband ordered the chicken wings, which were perfectly sauced and crisp, accompanied by blue cheese dressing, with clumps of blue cheese. Ooh, this was goood. I came here two nights in a row it was so good! The first night before my friend's wedding and then the night of her wedding for her after party. I loved the relaxed atmosphere. It's a great neighborhood pub and was right across the street from our hotel. It's pretty large with plenty of bar seating at their two sided bar and table seating. There is also a nice front porch and back patio with heating lamps. I really enjoyed their large selection of beers. The quips beer was good as well. It is their house beer. Do not plan on having a party of more than 4 if you all want to sit outside. We had a party of 6 and we're not allowed to put a 4 top and 2 top together. When we asked the manager about it we were told it was due to the size of the kitchen. The manager then asked if we wanted an application. Until now we would visit this location on average 2 times a month since 1999. Will not return here any time soon. The manager lacked personal skills and customer service etiquette. As a side note our visit was concluded at 8:00 on a Saturday night and when we left there was no one sitting outside and the inside was maybe 1/2 full. No matter how many cool new pubs and bars open up in and around Lancaster, this place remains my favorite. It's everything I want in a neighborhood bar -- cozy atmosphere, plenty of local favorites and long-time PA brews on tap, a friendly staff, and food that will make you forget you're in a pub. If you're stopping by on the weekend or for all-you-can-eat wings on Monday night (which, you DEFINITELY should), I recommend calling ahead to reserve your seat -- it gets crowded and the waits get long! But it'll be worth it when you're digging into a dozen salt and vinegar wings (or the more traditional hot). They're worth the wait! I usually pair it with a green goddess salad, which you can top with your choice of protein if the wings aren't enough for you. On cold days, add a cup of soup -- the French onion is excellent. The bangers and mash and cottage pie are also excellent choices. There's a generous-sized porch out front and additional seating out back for warmer days, but in winter there's nothing better than cozying up to the bar, watching folks give darts a go, and enjoying a pint amid the dark, worn wood and hanging banners from all sorts of sports ball teams. read more

I love that there is a Scottish, British place that has Strongbow and Magners, two of my favorite ciders. I was so thrilled by the many options for food that I don't normally come across. I came here with a group of about 12 of us. We were part of a wedding. We were here twice. It was a convenient location across from the wedding venue. However, the overall service was off-putting. We were ID right away before we could come in. It's a bar not a club. And it was dead inside for a Friday evening. We were given a hard time when we sat ourselves. We did wait, but no one came to service us or acknowledge us. Also we were told that we cannot have the table if we are only drinking. There was no space at the bar and lots of empty tables. We were going to order food anyway. Food was okay. I like the calamari, but it was small and I wished the sauce was on the side instead. I also had the fish sarnie and it was just okay as well. This is a reliably good pub. We love that it has a true pub atmosphere, and we've been coming here for many years. Some of our favorites include: burgers, fries, fish & chips (best around!), French onion soup, nachos with chili, house salad with homemade green goddess dressing, fish tacos and more. They always have specials including a soup of the day and other dinner options, usually 3-4. My husband enjoyed his special Frutti de Mare & I had the corned beef and cabbage. Truthfully the corned beef lacked flavor but it helps to enjoy it with the grained mustard or bacon stuff they serve with it. They have great beer options and a full bar including crushes. The bartender we have isn't a chatty guy but he diligently works hard all night & provides good service. A locals favorite! read more

The good: nice environment and good selection of drinks including a full bar from what we were told. Enough room to maneuver without having to tip toe by people. Fries were good and the blond waitress was sweet and friendly to us. Big parking lot for the crowds. The bad: the burgers we got were two smaller patties that just didnt equate to a decent burger even when we frankensteined them together. I love trying new places and will order more than one meal to see how they taste as someone that grew up working in restaurants and even a stint a a chef. Burger could use some work. The fish and chips, which i told was "famous" def needed some work. While crispy enough, it was still super oily like it was taken straight out of the fryer and put into newspaper without letting it drip to release some oil. It was one large piece and had some decent flavor. The ugly: drinks were absolutely not good. I ordered a long island tea and it was almost pure tequila which def didnt help with taste buds. Oh my oh my oh my! Where to start the food here is absolutely amazing. After being halfway done our meal we could not wait to come back. Definitely an "off" night. My husband ordered the Cottage Pie, after asking our server if it's like Shepard's Pie. She said it was, however it came with a tomato sauce base. Our daughter ordered Corned Beef & Cabbage, and the cabbage was raw. My fish & chips was okay, nothing to rave about. There is a step going into the back dining area, Beware! A woman tripped over the step and fell. Our daughter mentioned that this happened when she was there previously. I'm surprised their insurance company allows this. I'm always looking for good, authentic British pubs. By authentic, I mean that they at least have a cask ale available. I thought I found that at Quips. They even had their own special Bitter. So I ordered the Quips House ESB. I'm not sure what it was, but it wasn't an ESB. I've had, at one time or another, here in the US and in the UK, almost every ESB available. I've also been a brewer, so I know what a given style is supposed to taste like. This tasted more like a sour beer, almost a Berliner weisse. If it was, indeed, supposed to be an ESB then somewhere along the way, it went bad, whether in the brewing process, or in the cask. The server went to talk to someone about it, and came back, as I expected, to tell me, "No. That's the way it's supposed to taste". So, if you want a sour bitter, this is the place for you. On the plus side, they had Laphroaig, so I was able to wash the taste out of my mouth. Also on the plus side, the staff was nice. If they were annoyed by my questioning of the Bitter, they hid it well. As for the food, all I had was chicken wings, which tasted fine, but were not at all crispy. read more

Was out from Nevada for a wedding in Lancaster. A bunch of us went to Quips after the wedding and we had a blast! Great beer selection and super accommodating staff!
