Stayed three nights and not once did they bring clean towels, one washcloth and one hand towel for 3 nights/4 days. We had one roll of toilet paper and ran out before we left - luckily I had tissues. The food was not very good & service was okay but I felt as though I was bothering them by being there. I have stayed at countless hotels, cabins, Airbnb's & other rentals internationally & US and NEVER was required to wait while they checked to make certain I didn't do something to the room - well, that's how they treated me when I checked out ... like I did something to the room. Classless! Very classless! I will stay elsewhere next time - somewhere that appreciates my business & treats me with respect. It seems like people disagree about this place? Some -- like me and my BFF -- loved it. And others don't! Some of that difference is obv. about vibe and what is important to you. Maybe the rest is luck or specific choice of room? If you need super reliable wifi, great TV selection, pool, and deluxe spiffiness in general, this is not for you. On the other hand, if you like an old-fashioned look and feel, this sprawling place may please you as it did us. It has a number of cool bungalows, plus a few studio buildings, spread around a tiny well-kept garden-filled gated "campus" right on the main road. We found it charming and interesting, even if a little funky or run down in spots. Great waterside location, just north of center of town. it was too cold to swim in early April, but the beautiful (rocky) beach is right there. No wifi in spite of staff efforts on day 1, but then it worked fine for next 2 days. We did not watch TV or care much about the wifi. Strong great shower... 1980's era bathroom tiles, all good with us! The many room-types confused us, and we had helpful email exchanges to make the right choice: two connected large rooms w a kitchen and balconies, water view, perfect for us. We liked the staff. The security felt good. With special thanks to an outraged previous reviewer, i was prepared when they took a few minutes on checkout to check our rooms for damages before refunding our deposit. The restaurant and wine-bar, not affiliated i don't think, but right there, are excellent. I hope to return! read more

My Dad used to bring us here all the time when we were kids and we had not been here for quite a while so we decided to make a trip out here for 4th of July weekend . Before I get to the review of the hotel , I will tell you about an incident that occurred before we arrived to the hotel. On our way to the hotel we decided to stop at a grocery store before checking in so that we wouldn't have to go back out once it got later in the night . Unfortunately our car got broken into while we were in the store and we had to file a report with the police so we called the front desk to let them know we would he checking in late due to what had just happened , the lady at the front desk was really nice and understanding. She told us to take our time and take care of the issue we were having . My family and I were pretty shook up by what happened to us and we were contemplating just driving back home . But once we arrived at Quintas Papagayo and checked into our room we felt a little better . The premises felt safe and quiet , there is a gated and monitored entrance . The room was clean and the ocean view was so relaxing . It looked like they had updated the rooms and the pool area since we had last been there. The overnight security noticed our car window was shattered and he stopped by to check on us to make sure we were okay . We told him what had happened at the grocery store and he let us know that he was very concerned when he saw the broken window . It really goes to show that the security team is monitoring the premises and noting anything out of the ordinary. The front desk , maintenance and housekeeping staff were also very friendly and helpful . We asked someone at the front desk if we could have some leftover cardboard so that we could cover our broken window for the drive back to the states and they were able to find some for us . Everyone was always happy to help us out . My kids really enjoyed the pool and just hanging out on the patio in the evening. Although our getaway started off on a bad note , we were able to make the best of it ! I'm glad my kids got to experience this place just like I did when I was a kid . read more

We stayed here for 3 days in one of the beach front rooms. The room was a perfect fit for us. It had a small kitchen (fully equipped with the basics like cups/mugs/plates/bowls/utensils/toaster/blender), fireplace wall mounted TV and literally beachfront view. They supply a chord of wood daily, you can purchase more if needed. They will also come and light it up for you if you would like. We came on a cold weekend and the wall mounted electric heater was great! The shower is a little outdated but there is no shortage of HOT water. Our bed was comfortable with extra sheets and blankets in the closet. The staff was very polite and attentive. The grounds have several types of properties rent from single bungalows, 2-3 bedroom homes and condo type rooms. It is 3 miles from downtown Ensenada (cab was $60 pesos about $3.50 US dollars). We had breakfast at La Flor de Calabaza which is a 5 minute walk, also super place. Enjoy. read more

The moment we entered Quintas Papagayo I was already planning our return trip. This hotel is so beautiful and by far one of the best places to stay in Ensenada. We booked a room on the beach and were blown away at how huge it was! It even had a full kitchen with appliances and supplies had we needed to cook. The bathroom was also great, shower had excellent water pressure. Our view was insane and waking up to the blue water of the pacific was a dream in itself. We also felt extremely safe since the community is gated and guarded. Our next door neighbors were a little rowdy at midnight and I am not one to complain, however I did call after realizing it may not subside and security had them quiet down within minutes. The tiled floor was also one of my favorites and our deck/balcony was large and private and I was able to do some work on the chairs they provided. The beach access and pathways are well done and made exploring the property extra magical. It's an extremely clean resort. The gentleman who checked us in was extremely accommodating and let us check in early. I cannot recommend this place enough and will be sure that all my friends stay there when asking for Ensenada recommendations. Also- there is a great cafe around the corner La Flor De La Calabeza that is farm to table sustainable, healthy and affordable that is a must for breakfast. We unfortunately did not have time to try the restaurant on-site but plan to when we return. read more

On the surface this looks like a great place to relax and enjoy sometime and it has been in the past but recently the security is pretty terrible. The security at the front gate to control the cars entering and exiting is harsh but the security for the actual rooms is terrible. The property claims to have security cameras but rooms constantly get broken into. We had it happen first hand were they stole luggage and electronics without breaking any windows or handles. Even when all other hotels are full in Ensenada during weekends when there are Mexican wine country Valle de Guadalupe events like the paella festival we went to you can count on Quintas Papagayo to have a place for you! The place is VERY rustic and if that does not bother you then you will appreciate the fact that Papagayo is a clean place to stay with a degree of quaint charm. The only real complaint about this place that I have is that we were once without water for quite a while. However, it is likely that all hotels in Ensenada may have this problem as well as water is relatively scarce in Ensenada. Papagayo is close to the beach which offers pretty nice views as you might imagine. Papagayo is not a quiet place to relax it seems. The weekend we stayed here you could hear music and the chatter of people. The rooms have kitchens with regular sized refrigerators. All in all Quintas Papagayo is what it is - cheap and clean lodgings with no frills. Parking is no issue here really. read more

RAT POOP!! I recently stayed in Cabana 72 and the next morning found rat feces all over the floor and the bed sheets! I was disgusted and of course complained to the front lobby but they told me my two options were to transfer to cabana 75 or check out and have only the second night refunded. My sister and her partner came with us and had Cabana 73. We all drove up together decided to all check out and leave. The receptionist wouldn't even provide his name to us. There's so many deseases you can get from infected rat poop not just by contact but some are airborne. I'm concerned about me and my husbands health. Ensenada health department can careless. Expedia is working with me to make things right. This shouldn't happen to anyone! So unhealthy and disgusting! read more

My girlfriend and I recently stayed here and we really enjoyed it. The room we stayed in was spacious and clean. The bed was sooo comfortable, it was like sleeping on a cloud; as soon as we laid down on it we fell asleep for a quick evening nap. What sets this hotel apart from the others in Ensenada is the quick walk to the beach entrance which lies a few feet away from the rooms. There is a shallow depth near the pebbles or you can dive into the deep end from the large boulders. This is some of the clearest water I have ever swam in, you can see the fishes as they swim next to you even on the shallow end. There is a hotel security guard overseeing the beach which made us feel very safe because there are no fences enclosing the hidden beach entrance. Our room was fully renovated but we did notice that they were still renovating a few other units. The noise level of the renovations did not bother us since they were mostly painting and nailing. We will definitely be staying here again in the near future. read more

There has been a good amount of reviews in regards to people being "robbed" etc. Honestly, this place has been around since 1948 and it is a great place to stay at with all the amenities and other useful things available to make your stay comfortable. I will not lie we were concerned regarding these reviews, but when we checked out we discussed the subject with the receptionist. She clarified everything to us and without a doubt made us feel much better in regards to this place. She also mentioned that the owner herself wrote on the official page of this hotel a clarification in regards to the comments. They have a super strict policy about the number of guests that can stay In each place. Even though there is a double bed and a sofa bed they will only allow 2 people to sleep in that room. So if you have 3 people they make you rent another room or a different location. Completely stupid....when asked why they have a sofa bed AND and double bed advertised if only 2 people are allowed they said in case one wants to sleep on the sofa. Completely stupid but I guess id that's their rules that's their rules. We stayed one night and just before going to bed there was a huge cockroach crawling in the desk....they place did seem clean and cockroaches can survive almost anywhere so not too big of a deal. It is next to the beach so the views are good but it's a rocky beach so no swimming really....there is a pool which we didn't use. All in all just make sure the number of guests you have coming will work do the room you want to rent and don't go by the number of beds or sofa beds in the place and that means NOTHING. read more

Was in Ensenada the weekend of 2/08/2020. Had originally booked an air bnb in downtown Ensenada. Long story short, the road to the air bnb was not accessible. Went to this hotel because it was recommended by my cousin. My family of seven decided to stay here. Five of them stayed in a two bedroom suite. Two of us stayed in a single room with a king bed. The suite and the single room were very clean. A little outdated on the decor but there was construction going on so I'm assuming they're working on upgrades. Staff at the hotel were super friendly. I liked that the hotel is gated. Only complaint is that it was a little cold and the small heater in the room did not work. Would definitely stay here again ooh my next visit. read more

As a huge fan of mid-century modern architecture, I loved this place. We stayed for two days over the 4th of July holiday. We stayed in the Chalet Deluxe #39, one of the 28 houses on the property. Clean, beautiful and right next to the water with full kitchens, fireplace and built in BBQ. The GM was amazing and took us around showing us various room options and explaining the renovations they are doing. Our bathroom was upgraded and the entire 600+ sq ft residence had great new and relevant decor. We found our favorite new spot in Baja and can't wait to return. Only suggestions we had were to have room service available and an on-site store or bar. That would have been the small extra step. There is good news as a grocery store is less than a mile and a new brewery is on the West side of the street and we went twice. Such a gem! read more

Good location at a very decent price, we found vacancy at the height of summer vacation, so that was a miracle. We booked one of the junior suites, which promised microwave and mini-bar available in each room, not either of those in sight and our light didn't work in 102 :( This place is EXTREMELY family friendly, so if you wanna avoid kids, this is not the place for you to relax. They have a perfect temp pool, where guests do NOT follow the rules and a non working jacuzzi. There is access to a pebble beach and a terrace with a gorgeous view. We slept pretty peacefully even though we had our windows open, no noise from the neighbors. We made our reservation through booking.com and had a little problem because the suite description was not complete, another guest had a similar issue. WARNING: ROBBED DO NOT STAY HERE My family and I reserved four houses this past weekend at this so called hotel and were robbed. During an excursion we took on Saturday someone broke into two of our houses and stole various items including the following: two suitcases full of clothes, money, a laptop, tablet and a phone. Upon discovering the robbery we immediately contacted the front desk and were informed they could not call police due to having to follow a "protocol". They did not contact the police for two hours. Once the police arrived the staff informed them they could not access the cameras due to the fact that the only staff member who could access them was not going to arrive until later but they would have the videos available the next morning. We went to the main office the following morning and were informed by staff that they did not see anyone in the cameras. They then proceeded to ask us if we had MISPLACED the items and insinuated we had made up the ordeal. We brought up the fact that the maids had been in the room (evident by the made beds) and they informed us "she's trustworthy and wouldn't steal". However, it's very suspicious that the only suitcases that were stolen had women's clothing. The staff refused to reimburse us our money or take any action to make amends for the incident. This led us to believe the staff was involved in the robbery. We will be taking legal action moving forward but wanted to warn all others to STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!! read more

I can't relate to any of these poor reviews with only one star because my experience at this facility was beyond my expectations this weekend. First time coming to Ensenada and to this hotel, stayed this whole weekend here for my boyfriend's basketball tournament.... the bungalow ocean front is nice and spacious with a very comfortable clean king size bed, comes with a small kitchen too with all the basics to cook a meal... we were nicely greeted by Daniel at the front desk when we arrived and he gave us our room right away with no hassle... very clean reception I must say and overall a clean place.... will definitely be coming back to stay here on my next vacation next year. We have recently stayed two night at Quintas papagayo. My experience was very poor. We were two families staying at a two room chalet . Each bedroom had two queen beds in each and there was a couch in the leaving room. There were a total of 4 adults and 3 small children. My bad experience started once we first walked in late night into the office. The gentleman receiving us noticed there was an extra child with us which to that had right away informed us we must leave and go else where because we exceed the number of person for the chalet. We explained that being late at night we needed a little bit more of help from him rather thab tell us to turn around and leave. We came from out of town and my friend had to beg to please let us in. He then said" ok I will change you to a different chalet and there will be a charge of 15.00 dollars a night" I was thinking why didn't he offer that in the first place. But ok. We rolled in our place and it was sooo cold inside. I tried to look around for heaters and there was none. We called and ask what they could do about it and they said they could bring a plug in space heater. ONE SPACE HEATER FOR THE WHOLE 1,000 sq feet place . We were sooo cold at night and in the morning in early January. Sucked. The place had really bad odor , humid smell and literally one of the rooms smelled like poop. The plumbing is very old and the smell is soo strong I would not recommend staying there , it just isn't pleasant :( the beds are very old and they squeak , the blankets are old and they also have bad odor. The place we stayed was just really old and over all cold and horrible odor. I will never come back. read more

This is probably the worst experience we have had in any rental for the summer. The owners are obviously "American" retired I assume but let's get to all the negatives in this trip. 1. There's one idiot at the front desk that is rude with no customer service skills. 2. My 13 year old found an open condom by the window 3. My sister in law found underwear behind the bathroom door 4. We found insects in the bedrooms 5. The stove is beyond outdated looks ancient 6. The bathrooms smelled horrible (and not because anyone used them) pipes might need some work 7. The BIGGEST negative the owner parked her car in our station having us park in another parking lot big inconvenience 8. Guest limit is beyond strict 3 bedrooms and max is 8 with more than enough space for more people. 9. WIFI -Sucks 10. We showered with our sandals on because the house didn't feel nor smelled fresh (they say they clean but clearly they don't) 11. The restroom doors didn't lock 12. Closet door was broken 13. Couches were dirty The list can go on but you get the point. Only positive things were you have a nice view of the beach, a working fridge and TV. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for Christmas. The bungalow rooms are ocean view & are simply adorable. Has a little kitchen with plates, utensils, pots & pans, microwave & fridge. The whole property is gated, so therefore I had no worries. The staff is very friendly & even offered to help start the fire in our fireplace. Rooms are clean & blankets are clean & warm too! Whether you're a party of 2 or a party of 10, they have all types of rooms that will suit your needs. I forgot my purse at the hotel when we checked out & didn't remember until we were in line to cross the border. I called them right away & Danny at the front desk confirmed it was there. He said they'd hold it for me until we returned. I was a little worried some of my stuff might come up missing. Three months later (March )we're back and yes I did get my purse back with everything in it, I was very grateful. Again, as I mentioned before, the staff here are great folks & we will definitely make it out go to place when we stay in Ensenada! read more

I have stayed here twice. The first time was in a studio and it was nice. The bed was super comfortable! The tv is outdated but has a variety of channels. They had a big hole on the ceiling which they patched up with a piece of wood. Oh and no wifi at all. The next time I stayed, we stayed in one of the chalets(I think thats what they're called) by the pool. I had called in to see if I could check in early and they said no, because they were cleaning (no they did not, there was food in the crevices of the sofas and the living room was all together dirty). They had construction going on in the chalet next to ours but the noise never bothered us. No wifi signal like we were promised so I went on and called ahead, except the phone didn't work!! Went in and told them about the wifi and the phone but they never fixed it. The place had two bedrooms, one bathroom, living-room with a fireplace and tv, and a fully equipped kitchen. Also, in the morning when we went on to open the curtains we noticed there were footsteps leading to all of our windows!!! Creeped us all out! Never found out who it was, but only happened once. This places is right on the beach, which I love! The distance to the city and valle de guadalupe is great. The prices are great too. Since my family and I didn't spend too much time here other than to sleep ... the inconveniences didn't bother us too much. It would have been nice to have wifi. We decided to get away for a few days after my mother in laws funeral. For the price I never expected this place to be so nice. Another plus was the security that gave me and my fiancé a feeling of being safe while we slept. The gentleman working the front desk was very helpful as well as very friendly. Being a Motorsports photographer I stay in a lot of hotels throughout the year, and this is by the best I have ever stayed in. You can't beat the awesome sunset while sitting out on the balcony. The location is awesome and just a quick cab ride away from Papas & Beer. Staff were all very pleasant and our villa perfectly fit our group of four. Gate staff ensure safety and office staff are very helpful as well (even if you speak really broken Spanish like me!) The restaurant is the only reason I'm not giving this establishment 5 stars, as it has a really different spin on Mexican food. It's not the typical arroz y frijoles type place that you'll find in Puerto Nuevo or Rosarito. They serve risotto instead of rice and the chips and salsa came with raw shrimp. (I know, I know cooked in the limon juice, but I'm not into that). This resort does NOT offer a fast pass either which made returning into California a bit more difficult-- we waiting 3 hours to cross, longest we've ever had to wait. If I could give it 0 stars I would this was very stressful we've lost all Monday of our vacation day and Tuesday because we had to pack up and leave and go look for somewhere else last minute to stay. Customer service there is so horrible the room of this place is called hain it's a 2 story house with 2 rooms fits 6 people by the pool area they didn't bother to move us when I went to complain Monday night told me they had nothing else available when I went back almost midnight they told us that only thing they were able to do was have us talk to the manager Tuesday morning and all we were able to do was go look for a room to stay at the middle of the night. Horrible customer service didn't bother to do anything for us book us a room Or nothing pretty much told us to figure it out on our own When we went Tuesday morning the gentleman in the front told us they would reimburse us everything when the manger came he said no he was going to charge us the night we literally were not able to enjoy after all the complaints and all he could do was reimburse. After going back in forth for almost 2 hours we left finally reimburse me because they didn't want to we checked out we didn't stay no way my daughter has allergy and asthma and can't stay under those conditions. Went to stay for a night since my son and I went on a fishing trip. The place is gated with good security. Great parking. We stayed in a large suite which was nice and homey. My room did not have HVAC so we opened windows to let the night breeze cool the room. The manager explained that the Hotel is going through a renovation where all rooms are being upgraded. My friends got an upgraded room with AC and the temperature of their room was perfect. Our mini house was very spacy with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a nice living room and a nice view of the pool. The rooms have more the feeling of a country house than a hotel, which we liked. read more

ROBBED STAY AWAY!! We stayed in Quintas Papagayo on July 27th through the July 29th. When we arrived we were greeted by a security guard. We got to Hains and my family arrived before we did. We arrived and as soon as we walked into Hains we caught a weird smell when we walked upstairs. My sister mentioned it was the bathroom, it smelled like something was wrong with the pipes. They asked to be moved but they were all booked. The house was dated and needed to be renovated. The next day Saturday, we had breakfast at the hotel restaurant which was good. We had a big party so service was lagged. Before we had breakfast we let the front desk attendant know that there was a smell coming from the upstairs bathroom and if we could be moved. He said no but I'll send someone to see what they could do. He asked if it was okay if they entered when we were present or not present. We said it didn't matter we needed the smell to go away. While we were having breakfast someone came in to spray, as we knew because when we walked in there was a liquid left in the dinning table. We didn't think anything of it. Around 1pm the whole family left, which there was 23 total staying amongst all four houses. We came back around 930-10pm in separate vehicles, others arrived before we did. As we were arriving we received a call from one of my sisters in law that they had been robbed. Alarmed, we raced to house 12 and they robbed an Apple Mac Book Air laptop, brand new, an IPhone that was left on a charger, an IPad and TWO WOMANS SUITCASES. They even tried on some shoes because the shoelaces were left untied, they didn't fit so they did not take them. We went to the office and let them know what happened the attendant Hector said they had to follow a protocol and not to call the police. He said he is trying to contact his manager but it's Saturday night and they are not answering. He said someone who has access to the cameras will be there by 11pm. It was 10pm or so when we spoke to him. He said to leave him alone because he needed to do his job. We obliged peacefully and went back to the house. The police showed up around 11pm and we gave them our side of the story. At 11pm we were allowed briefly to see the camera angles. The police said that if the security found anything in the cameras to call them. The gentleman in charge of viewing the cameras said he would review and let us know. At this point we felt helpless. We went back and slept for the night as we felt our stay for the weekend was ruined by these events. When we woke up In the morning there was another gentleman who basically said they reviewed the camera footage twice and nothing was found. We asked for a copy of the footage so we may look st it ourselves. They said they would get confirmation from the manager. They did not allow us to have access to the footage. We feel that this was a robbery that was done by one or some of the employees that were their on Saturday. Only because they were not able to find anyone entering or exiting the house with all of these items. We feel that someone would have had to hide this very well. We asked to at least have part of our stay reimbursed but they denied it. We feel this is unfair and would not want this to happen to anyone else. This was the worst experience anyone would have to go through and we would not want to wish on anyone else. Please do not stay here. This is not the first time this has happened. read more

I really love this place. It has this Rat Pack-era, hip Palm Springs vibe and design and it is right on the water. I have stayed in their suites, studios and multi-room cabanas and they are all great. The studio was only about $45/night and it was a modest offering but for a comfy, clean bed in Ensenada you can't beat it. The other rooms were very nice and big! Daniel at the front desk is super friendly and helpful. Can't wait to come back! read more
