First visit: We each…read moregot the chicken fingers with potato salad and a piece of toast and regular size Dr. Pepper ... price for each, over $13. We think that's WAY too high for a fast food order, but it might be justifiable if the order was exceptional. The chicken fingers were skinny and dry looking; they were mostly tender but didn't have any real punch when it came to taste. They have nowhere near the tender, juicy flavor of Raising Canes chicken tenders. The little cup of potato salad was about 3 bites worth, yikes. Why on earth doesn't Layne's serve sides like coleslaw at least?? The toast was, well, toast, no real buttery flavor. The Dr. Pepper was fine but the regular is not a big cup. The dipping sauce was flavorful. The girl at the drive-thru window was less than welcoming, no greeting like: Hi! How are you today? And there was no: "I hope you enjoy your meal and come back to see us!". Is it so much to ask that the person at a window greet people with a big smile and an attitude that makes them WANT to come back again?? Overall, not the best first impression. Will we return? Yes, to give it another try. But if it's basically the same as the first visit, we'll continue to give Raising Canes our business when we want good chicken dinner take-out.

The one disappointing factor in the visit is tiny but it mattered to me. While there were both unsweet tea and sweet tea dispensers, the sweet tea had very, very little sugar in it to the point that it was close to identical to the unsweet. We tried both sides of the station with the same results. I wanted the sweet tea and was disappointed that I had to select something else. Like I said, tiny thing but that doesn't mean I wasn't frustrated. Another thing that we found a bit surprising was that there were no restaurant leaders moving from table to table to thank people for coming in and asking the typical questions (Where are you from? How is the food? ... stuff like that. We have been to quite a few soft openings and this was the first time it didn't happen. Could be strange or maybe our past experiences were unusual, but in any event it was just one thing we noticed. As we were cleaning up after our meal, a team member did approach a table near us and then us, asking the types of questions that we had expected from management. We saw nobody else doing the same. He was so personable, telling us about the training he'd had over the past 2 weeks and that he really liked it there. We talked about the other locations we had been to and his favorite items on the menu. As we were standing up he said he'd be happy to take our tray to the trash bins. I hate that I don't remember his name but I think it began with the letter "I". We will undoubtedly be returning to this location!
