This used to be my "go to" clinic because it was low key, tucked away in a small medical building. They had decent, competent staff. No more. Today I went in at my appointment time and was told the system went down at 7:30 a.m. There was no call/text/email alert about what happened or warning that basically the lab was closed unless you had paper lab work orders. There was no information whether the system crash was everywhere or just at this location. This place has seriously gone downhill. read more

Don't go there if you don't had an appointment. you don't know when you can get served. I had a really bad experience several times in this lab. only one person works there. You won't be able to make an appointment in a month. One day I went inside 9 am to standby. Then I left after 4 PM. Today I when to blood tests at 8:50am. I had an appointment but my doctor forgot to send that test orders. I called the office and my doctor resent the order immediately. However, I had to resign in for standby. I waited to lunch time still did not get my bloodwork done. I was fasting, so end up I had to leave. No appointment available for another month. If I go tomorrow for standby, I'm not sure I will be able to get my bloodwork done. This place is really sucks. Used to be OK. Was several people work there, but now only one. read more

This morning, as a standby, I waited in the office for 45 minutes immediately in front of the front door and the door towards collections. Only one patient was processed in this time, despite at least two phlebotomists being on duty. One came out to apologize, blaming backups on service on some networking work. The next appointment available is 1.5 weeks out. LabCorp, in comparison, visibly works expeditiously and handles walkins easily. Apparently because they anticipate patient irritation, their TV obnoxiously reminds you that aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. Do you even want my business? read more

Very poorly run location w zero bedside manner. The lady handling my lab samples was terrible. I was told I was denied coverage and said she couldnt print out the page. She also was super strict on the samples and refused some. On the second visited she said these were also denied instead of telling me early. OH, this this she could print out the denied orders. the 711 d street san rafael ca is a quiet, low-volume lab test setting and preferable to other quest locations. however, in this and other quest diagnostics locations, quest schedules patient appointments in 10-minute intervals. this is insufficient time for many appointments - particularly where extensive lab work is requested. this scheduling framework may leave the technician feeling pressured and harried, and makes for a somewhat unpleasant experience for the patient. it feels as if quest is trying to generate increased revenue through imposition of an unrealistic patient appointment schedule - that must surely be stressful even for competent technicians. read more

The biggest issue here is... Two days ago I had to have bloodwork done. The phlebotomist I saw put clean gloves on, touched the computer and touched multiple specimen tubes (which I hope were all sanitized). She then squirt some hand sanitizer on her hands while she still had her gloves on, instead of grabbing a new pair before drawing my blood. I had been fasting at this point for 17 hours. She was having issues drawing my blood and I was barely filling the tubes. So my mind was all over the place and now only in hindsight am I thinking "wait, this was done in a messy way that may have put my health in danger". Every other medical establishment I've been to has changed gloves between patient interactions and interactions with instruments. read more

This lab is located across from Casa Manana in San Rafael. I was there at 8:30 AM, signed in as a walk in with Labs ordered from my Doctor. They took me quite quickly. I waited outside and was brought in sooner than anticipated. They have two women working there who, I thought ran the place very well. I am glad to see more than one person working in a Lab. In the past they did this and having more than one person is a huge improvement. The online booking is very hard and I was not able to make an appointment. However, the kindness and professionalism of the two Phlebotomists made up for it. Great lab! read more

The Worst Customer service I've EVER received. There was absolutely no understanding, compassion or common decency and good etiquette on the staff's part. On top of that while I was trying to talk to the technician, a mean, sad and bitter other client interrupted me which turned into an argument, while the staff member was ABSOLUTELY terrible at doing their job... I wouldn't recommend this place if someone offered me a Trillion dollars to do so. TERRIBLE that I was treated so terribly. It really hurt me and ruined my day. My experience was simply, straight AWFUL!!! After making my appointment the week prior of my appointment, at the request of my doctor, I showed up for my appointment at this location. This was my first time using the services and their "automatic checking in service". I arrived on time for my appointment as I always do for any appointment. I checked in on a system that I have not use before, but I was able to manage it until the request of my insurance card. I realized that after looking on my purse my bigger wallet and not finding it, I texted my husband to get copy of my card, and I tried to scan it on the system, but I was unsuccessfully to do so. I decided to wait to talk to the counter person, who was attending another customer and they took a little while to resolve this customer issues. She was able to instruct to hit "do not consent" and by the time I did it (which I have to sign in as a second time, bc the system run out of time), the system would not allow me to do so. I decided to wait, until another technician came out and told me that I "arrived late to the appointment". I explained to her the issues with the system and her response was "you didn't arrive on time to your appointment". I explained to her that "I was on time to my appointment and that it was their system that was messed up. She said that I had "10 minutes to do so" and I reconfirmed that I was on time, I tried to check in twice and that I was on time for my appointment at 9:00am. Her response was "no, you arrived at 9:11 and the system give you only 10 minutes", which she was lying about it. I have proof of that, which is the text of my husband sent me with the insurance card, which it was under 10 minutes...There was only one more client there that had just arrived as well and she conveyed that she was early and was wondering if she can go ahead and do it. Their response was "you need to wait for your appt". No one else was there except her and I... it seems they don't want to work and their service is awful. Lack of training, not interest in providing a service. If they don't like to work with public, they should not being expose to the public. Their attitudes were far from friendly, service oriented. Do not use this location for blood work. Absolutely terrible service. No desire or ability to help solve simple issues. A very sad reflection of a team that seems to forget patients are people. I had all required paper work electronically. I tried to email it upon arrival but the email for the nurse / location bounced back. The nurse saw I had copies of the order and insurance on my phone, but would not see me unless it was printed or faxed. Their printer was not available, they would not let me login to a terminal to print, and the nurse had zero interest or zero ability to to help me. I spent almost an hour getting the paperwork resent to their fax machine. Then I waited and was asked the same questions over and over. Save yourself unneeded frustration and go somewhere else. The worst service and the worst staff. My daughter had an appointment at 10:50 am. We arrived at 10:35 am. We waited at the front desk for about 10 minutes. The woman in charge of testing showed up twice and never addressed me to tell me she had no receptionist. I noticed a new patient using a device to check in. I went to register my daughter. She came out later and told me I would have to make another appointment because she was alone. And she needed 2 people besides me to do the test. She was very rude from the beginning. My husband came to help me and when it was time to do the test, according to her the doctor never sent the order. Which when I left I confirmed with a call to the doctor that they did send it but she was just rude and unprofessional in total. I asked the doctor to send the order again but at another lab. I totally do not recommend that lab, 711D st suite 103 in San Rafael. El peor servicio y el peor personal. Mi hija tenia cita a las 10:50 am Llegamos a las 10:35 am. I've had my blood drawn by Quest at the Las Gallinas lab on numerous occasions in the past four years, and have always been very pleased. The people who work there are kind and highly competent. There's a similar situation at the Quest lab at 5 Bon Air in Larkspur, where I've gone a few times: all good. But today I made the terrible mistake of going to the Quest lab at 711 D Street in San Rafael for a routine blood test. The national Quest policy is to take patients with scheduled appointments before walk-in patients, and the Las Gallinas lab adheres strictly to that policy. Not so 711 D Street. I arrived there before my scheduled time (scheduled online seven days previously), and the receptionist called another patient in the waiting room who was a walk-in with no appointment. I politely protested, and was rudely derided by the receptionist, who furthermore made false and nonsensical arguments justifying her decision. She ordered me to wait in the waiting room. As I did, four other patients came in, all in rapid succession, and none observed the CDC-defined social-distancing protocols. The room is small, and it would be difficult to maintain six feet clearance from other people even if everyone was on board with that approach. Unfortunately, none of the four patients showed any awareness of the value of staying six feet away from me or the others. Nor did the receptionist ask them to do so. At that point, I felt I was potentially in danger of being exposed to COVID-19, and I left. There's more that went wrong there at 711 D Street, but I've said enough to provide a clear picture. read more

All of Marin General's outpatient labs were vacuumed up by Quest, using cheap borrowed money. The waiting room T.V. blaring ads for quests states: "you have a choice where get your labwork, thanks for using Quest" Bull. It's a monopoly at this point. The staff are overworked and underpaid. Many can barely function in English. They constantly screw up communications with doctors. If you want to see what the Third-Worldization of America looks like, and why we need National Healthcare, Medicare For All, or Single Payer, go visit you local Quest lab. Meanwhile, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer at QUEST DIAGNOSTICS INC, Stephen H. Rusckowski made $9,953,287 in total compensation last year from helping to destroy the American health care system. There are some good people working here, but there are also some surly folks and some folks who are perturbed by the sight of customers. Usually dreadfully understaffed in the early AM, and the computers dont seem to yield what is needed. And though they have recently implemented online appointments, you can't get an appointment in the first hour the lab is open("drop in only" until 9)! Nothing like going in for a fasting blood test and waiting in a crowded waiting room with unhappy staff and bored customers to get your day started right! I've been going to Quest for five years for regular blood work. The Las Galinas location has terrific staff but is an extra 20 - 30 minutes each way compared to this one on D Street. Every time I go to D Street there is a totally new staff. Many appear to be inexperienced which makes me suspect this is a training site. About one or two of every five visits they do not get the stick the first time and need to do a second, and once in a while have someone else do a third. The worst is when they keep wiggling the needle around trying to get the vein. The staff by and large are professional but, as noted by others, neither warm nor friendly. As soon as the road work on SFD is done, I am done with this location. read more

First off, they NEVER pick up the phone nor do they return calls when you leave a message. I have called four times and left two messages and never heard back from anyone. When I went to get my blood drawn, I was really nervous. I asked the woman about the test I was getting and she handed me a medical dictionary from 2002 and told me to look it up myself. Can one do 0 stars? Went in this morning to the D street, downtown San Rafael office, for simple blood work. One person to check patients in, input into in computer and draw blood!!!! No hand washing between tasks. After waiting almost 30 minutes, I was called. I asked the attending person to use a small needle as my veins were sensitive and hard to find Her response was "They clog". She poked me and proceeded to play with the needle inside my arm to find the vein. Yes, inside. AS if there were no tissues in it. Long story short, I was left with a bruised and extremely painful arm and am NEVER going back to that location. read more

Needed blood draw from overnight fasting weeks ago and this was the closest from my work as i didn't have much time in between. Got the blood work done after the tech called the doctors office to confirm what was check on the blood lab sheet i handed to them. The draw was painless and kinda quick after a short wait even though they took a lot of my blood for an important screen panel for my upcoming doctors visit so yay! The wait been longer in the past so this was a welcome surprise. I quickly rush out to indulge in some not so healthy food for the first time in months for just once as I was literally starving from fasting longer than had anticipated. Two weeks later, I showed up at my appointment for the check up and guess what.... the doctor's office didn't received the results. They called Quest lab and found out the person who answered wasn't sure what happen either and didn't think it was done for some reason and didn't notify anyone!!! Now I have to get another blood draw and you can be sure it will NOT be at any Quest lab as this was the last straw (draw) from them. Thanks for wasting my doctor time and mine where the blood results was vital to the visit :( read more

Update: Quite recently I went to a Quest lab for an urgent blood test. I have a life threatening condition and they frequently need to check for signs of blood clots The results needed to be seen that same day. While registering the person at the desk told me I had an outstanding balance. Unfortunately the balance was more than what I had in my bank account. They told me that they could not draw my blood if I didn't pay it right then and there. I offered to make a partial payment but no they could not authorize that. So I went to my car to call Quest billing. After being on hold for what seemed like quite a long time, someone came on the line. Then I got the predictable run around that resolved absolutely nothing. I never did get my blood test done that day. I have a part in this as i needed to call my insurance co and ask why they didn't pay for what's on the outstanding balance. I am so buried in medical bills that things get lost in the piles. But not doing the test that day could have had consequences that I don't even want to think about. I use a different lab now. Much better. read more

Well I would actually give them no stars if I could . I have bandages on my left hand and arm , and a big bruised hematoma on my right hand . I look like I have been in an accident and know this right hand will be giving me fits for a week or more . They didn't even look at me for the first 30 minutes even though I was just trying to ask if they got my paper work. After they did finally acknowledge me they told me they did not get my paperwork. Not only did they give me the wrong tests, twice, but when it was obvious they did not understand what my doctor was requesting, they made me do the follow up instead of taking care of it on their end. This place should be shut down! I am an easy going guy but within 10 minutes of being at Quest I found myself in a shouting match with the nurse/receptionist. My MD is the University of California, San Francisco. That's a pretty large institution. Seems the MD's address was not on the lab form and that's where it started going south. The nurse was unable to find an address for the UC hospital. She's not permittied to use the internet she explained. She also refused to allow a copy of the results to be sent to me because the MD neglected to check a box. When I checked with the MD to get a copy of the lab results it seems that Quest never sent them. All they did correctly was bill for services that they never performed. I tried contacting them by phone - it would be easier to get in touch with President Obama. Nobody answers, there are a zillion menu prompts and no way that I could find to actually speak with anyone. If I could give less than one star I would. read more

The location of this Quest isn't at a fancy medical center, at all, BUT, it's local and close to home for me. Yes, it is closed from 12:30- 1:30 for lunch, but usually Maria is the only one working. This could cause a wait, but she is VERY helpful. The fax I was expecting was no where to be found, so she called the other Quest, not there either. I had to call my dr and they resent it. Meanwhile some one came in for a draw, but my fax just came in. Instead of waiting on the other client, she finished up with me and sent me on my way. Agree with the other folks who wrote reviews; they have one (usually) rude person doing both the paperwork AND the blood draw. They insist that they hadn't received the faxed orders, when I showed them the receipt and confirmation from 3 days before. Even with an appointment, you have to wait an unreasonable amount of time (she said that the person before me "had some problems"). It's a very unpleasant place. If you must use Quest, go to the one in Mill Valley (Shelter Bay); it's worth the drive, and you'll be taken on time. How does this D Street outpost stay in business? Since they don't respond to our complaints, or phone calls, maybe a boycott is in order? read more

This place is so f****ed up, I had to call five different numbers to get the number of the D St. lab in San Rafael for my doctor. I was never able to get it. Each number had an automated number of choices that went on forever and I was told by the mystery automated voice on the phone that I was NOT allowed to speak to a representative. The Greenbrae lab is even worse. Sometimes I've sat there for 2 or more hours waiting to get labs drawn. Never ever enough staff. read more

Ditto on the other reviewer. This place has HORRIBLE service. I arrived at 4-50pm and the door was already locked, leaving another patient and I quite annoyed since they were not supposed to close until 5pm. At 5, I saw the staff leaving and informed her of my frustration. She repeatedly insisted that she did not close early and refused to acknowledge my point. The next day I came back and the lady at the front counter did not even acknowledge I was there. I had to overhear two of her phone calls, in which she was negative and rude, and then she stated that it was her lunch time and she didn't know if she could see me (even though I'd been sitting there for 20 mins). It appears that LEAVING work is valued way more than actually working at this joint. read more
