I went to Quest in Valparaiso, IN for cortisol saliva testing. When I wanted to drop them off, I was told that I had to register at the kiosk and wait. I didn't know I had to have an appointment for a drop off, so walk ins are a "wait forever" situation. These test samples are supposed to be refrigerated and by the time I would finally get in, they would certainly be at room temperature. I will never waste my time with Quest again. How about working on your communication skills? I checked in at 12:50 PM for my appointment, just as the Quest Diagnostics application instructed me. I walk in, sit down in the (completely empty) waiting room, and notice that my name initials are on the TV notification prompt (12:52 PM). At least TEN people walk in front of me. AND at least FIVE of them get seen BEFORE me (1:30 PM). The "lead practitioner" proceeds to FINALLY call my name, saying shortly after, "I had called your name before..." (1:45 PM) Are you kidding me? You see me sitting here, sweating from sitting down so long with the reflection of the sun shining right through the waiting rooms glass window, waiting 10, 20, 30 minutes AFTER I check in, AND you go ahead and service five other appointments ahead of me??? There are clear glass/plastic composite walls in the front as well, so you can also SEE right through the front to SEE who is waiting, let alone cameras in the back? So interesting how one with (what would seem) to be such a sophisticated, intelligent background, can be so ignorant, beyond rude, disrespectful, inconsiderate, arrogant, possibly even prejudice, and unequivocally uncalled for as an individual human being. What is the point of being on time for appointments when they will not be on time for you? My appointment was at 1:00 PM, not 1:45 PM. Simple math, not phlebotomy. If no stars could be selected for this review, it still would not be enough. Sometimes, people just do not understand what they do to you and how it affects the rest of your life. *** STAY AWAY****if you don't want COVID19! Quest Diagnostics would give the infection to patients and employees, and you paid for their service, bad very risky service. They don't have a process in place, and i was told that they cannot reject people not wearing a mask. Everyone can walk in with or w/o mask! SCARY! The employee who saw me was nice but was not wearing a mask, neither another employee that walk in my small room, I was wearing a mask they were not. Apparently, this place does not give a crap about how their customers are treated based on my recent visit. I stopped by yesterday after a doctor's appointment to get a routine blood test. The waiting room was packed with people and it was super stuffy/gross inside. I was tempted to make an appointment and bail but I didn't want to make another trip. The one positive is that they have an i-pad where you can easily sign in without filling out annoying paperwork. There's also a TV screen that shows where you are in line and approximate wait time. And that's where the buck stops. After waiting about 40 minutes, I get called into a small room. This angry looking Asian woman hastily asked me to confirm my name. She barks at me to "open hand," "squeeze" and "hold" (the gauze after). Literally ZERO bedside manner and she seemed like she hated her job the entire time. Later that evening, I noticed there was a small cut vs. a tiny hole where she poked me. Apparently, she cut me when removing the needle. WTF - who does that? Maybe if she hates her job that much, find another occupation that doesn't involve needlessly injuring an innocent patient. Very unorganized!! I had an appointment at 11:10 but since I was fasting I felt dizzy and lightheaded so I went there earlier than my appointment at 9:30 and requested the lady to fit me in. Not only they didn't accept me sooner, I got in 20 minutes later than my appointment (at11:30)!! So many other people there got in way past their appointment too! Do the following: (1) Make an appointment online and provide your insurance information online when you make your appointment. It's a busy place. Walking in without an appointment is not recommended. (2) Confirm your appointment when you receive a text message asking you to do that. (3) Arrive 10 minutes early. (4) Check in when you arrive via the link they will send you via text. (5) Bring with you your Dr's orders regarding the blood work your doctor wants just in case your Doctor did not send the orders to Quest. STAY AWAY FROM TONY!!! I have never in my life ever had any complications getting my blood drawn and this is the first time I had to go to urgent twice in a period of a week and a half just to keep checking up on the complications he left on my arm. Not to mention when I called in to the office, NO ONE PICKED UP! I currently have bruising up my arm (extremely odd since he injected super far from the bruising) and there's a lump forming at the injection site. I have not been able to straighten my arm without pain since the injection. Doctors are still debating how serious it is and it is a waiting game, but if it doesn't clear up they plan on cutting open my arm to make nothing serious was damaged! This is usually really rare but I guess he seemed to make it happen. Not to mention when I was getting my blood drawn I was asked personal questions. It may have been to distract me from the pain of the blood draw but as a young female it made me uncomfortable. Either way it does not take away from the fact that I was left with a series of complications that hindered my everyday life. I was pleasantly surprised with the service I received here, despite the bad reviews I read. I made an appointment online, surprisingly I was able to get an early morning appointment within a few days (early morning is a must when having to fast for 12 hours!) When I arrived 15 min early, I was surprised to see the waiting room full of patients (socially distanced). I thought I'd end up waiting there way past my appointment time for sure. Wrong! They took me back 5 minutes earlier than my appointment! The sweet girl who took care of me, Liz, was calm, cheerful, and very good at drawing blood. She took care of me quickly and efficiently, and I was out of there in no time. Although there were a lot of patients waiting, there was a steady flow of patients going in and out. Stay away from the Tony guy. He is so mean and didn't seem to care. He couldn't find my veins, even after I exclusively told him where it should be. He poked me 3 times without any luck. He didn't even put on gloves when getting my blood, which was so unsanitary. In his rooms, samples were left everywhere. He got tubes from the centrifuge and threw them in the basket. Tubes on his computers, tubes on the bench, tubes in the basket. I couldn't believe my eyes. Horrible experiences I would never ever come back. This was a way better Quest than the ones I've been in. I was expecting to have a bad experience to be honest due to the reviews and a previous bad experience, but Christy and Bridget made it way nicer. I had an appointment and the waiting wasn't so bad either because there wasnt a lot of people, and I actually didnt have an order but Christy was patient and nice enough and told me to call my doctor so they can fax it and get it ready. She had to take care of a patient so thats when Bridget helped me out to draw my blood which was painless and bruiseless! I'm updating the rating, as I think it may have been a bad day for this location. I visited another quest site and was in and out within 20 minutes. So hopefully this site will take some steps to address any problems. Honestly I think just letting the patients know that they are in for a delay would be helpful, or perhaps asking the quest application developers to allow the workers to update a central location with wait times or important info so people can avoid piling on the staff who is trying to get work done. This site was short staffed and far behind when I visited. The quest site was still taking appointments, despite them being short on people and almost an hour behind. There was several people who ignored an older gentleman who was looking for help to check in, and I do think the check in process is probably difficult for older patients. I ended up leaving over I had been waiting for over 30 minutes, but a staff member only came out twice in that time to let people know there was a delay. As I mentioned above a way to see the wait times in the office or if there is significant delay on that site would be helpful and I strongly think the company should try and implement something. Staff was distracted on the day and it showed, but I don't want to judge them to hardly on a 30 minute stay. I do think their frustration would again be solved by passing to some kind of information on the wait times and any impacts at the site. read more

I checked the Quest website to see when I could schedule an appointment to have blood drawn so my doctor could have a look at how my thyroid, a rickety old organ, was behaving. There was an opening for 12:15 p.m. - about 14 minutes later from the moment I found it. Name, address, yes, no... I filled out the online form, got an appointment code, and took off. I arrived at about 12:19 (maybe :20). The guy behind the counter took my insurance cards, and I waited about another 4 minutes. A nurse by the name of Christy came to the waiting room to fetch me. Soft spoken and very friendly (tuned out we have a mutual friend), she searched my arm for a suitable vein. She looked and pressed and looked and pressed. My veins are notoriously evasive, trouble even for the most accomplished phlebotomists. (Preparing me for cataract surgery, the anesthesiologist introduced himself by claiming to be the guy preferred by pediatricians and obstetricians because "I can find a vein in a wiggling newborn." He went from the crook of my right arm, to my forearm, to my hand, then to my left hand, and finally hit pay dirt midway up my left arm. My veins humbled him - which certainly was not my intention.) Christy found a vein in my right hand. She apologized but said she really had no choice. "Is it all right if I draw blood from your right hand?" Permission granted. I watched her clean the site, train the needle, and then put it in my vein. Painlessly. Because there had been no pain, I kept expecting her to poke me again. Nope. That stretch of surgical tubing that drained into a small vial turned a dark red with my blood, and then the whole thing was done. Christy's care and professionalism made for a perfectly painless visit to Quest. As I left, though, there was a woman standing at the receiving desk, hand on her hip, her finger wagging, and nearly screaming at the poor guy behind the desk. Whew. This is a mighty rough time for those in the medical profession. read more

Make an appointment. I can't emphasize that enough. Make an appointment online before you go! I've been to this center for blood work 6 or 7 times now. If you make an appointment you'll only find yourself waiting 15 minutes rather than the 90 to 120 minutes you'll wait if you are a walk-in. I've had varied experiences with the different phlebotomists (a mix of 2 and 4 star experiences) - some are personable and are good with the needle and others are dour and will bruise you. I understand it's probably a tedious job and I sincerely appreciate the ones who can still manage a smile and act like they care. The waiting room is too small and people are packed in like sardines in a can. It bothers me to be rubbing elbows with a coughing stranger who I'm certain has a contagious jungle disease. Bring something to read or have cell phone in hand to entertain yourself; you'll spend some time waiting, the length of which depends on whether you make an appointment or not. Needed a couple of tests done per my doctor and tried half a dozen quest phone numbers for price. No live person anywhere. Got stuck in phone trees enough to make my pressure go up. Didn't want to deal with Covid people but I had to show up. Went senior hour, as they promote, but that was false. Didn't matter if I'm 90 or 6. All mixed in. So, after filling out paperwork that took 10 minutes and breathing fouled air, I was able to get a price just before they were getting ready to rush me in. Price was $285. What! I ain't got insurance and I can tell this is ridiculous. Called my doctor and said no way Jose. What else? Call Westpak they said. I did. $73 bucks! Can you imagine? I kid you not. Same tests. The receptionist was kind and efficient, and she helped me with the check in process. The location is a little difficult to locate because it's in a busy complex. I also found the lobotomist friendly. However, I rated it 3 stars because my arm was sore and numb for an entire day. It was so painful that I couldn't sleep. At night, I couldn't feel my hand. Not sure of all the negative reviews but this is my go-to spot to draw bloods and I have nothing but positive things to say about this location. I've been here 7 times in total in the last few years. I always make an appointment and they are always good about getting me in exactly on my appointment time. Sometimes I get in a few min's before my appt and a couple times I've had to wait 5-10 min's after my appointment. The staff is always friendly. I sign in through text message that I receive from Quest earlier that AM. Unfortunately, things have changed: They have gotten rid of the front desk help and now force you to log in at two little stations upon entering. Now, this isn't a bad concept, HOWEVER, from what I saw in my visit: This location has a lot of foreign speakers and elderly folk who are not computer literate, and elderly foreign speakers who are not computer literate. While there is certainly nothing wrong with that - This is one of the reasons I love the city of Irvine: the diversity - But because of these beautiful diverse people: Signing in for your visit has become a nightmare! When I was there, there were people stacking up in the little waiting room (the place was PACKED), some of who didn't understand the sign-in procedure and some who took forever (FOR-EV-ER!!!) to sign in, and some who became frustrated enough to not sign in at all and wait. One poor lady was there before I got there. I waiting for a half hour PAST my appointment time to be seen. Then when I was leaving, I heard her complaining to a nurse (who I think was trying to leave for a break) that she was still waiting. The nurse told her: Because she didn't sign in, she missed her appointment time, and they were over-booked so she had to make a new appointment. The lady didn't speak English too well, so she didn't understand that she needed to sign-in. I felt really bad for her. If they had front desk help like they used to (and that were REALLY REALLY friendly and helpful) this would not have happened to this poor lady. The back office workers are wonderful and were trying their hardest to do their jobs, but it was hard because people kept knocking on the doors, to get some kind of help or communication. You know: The kind of help and communication that a front desk person would normally give. I'm sorry Quest, but some company's NEED a human manning the front desk, and yours is one of them. The automated check-in is fine, but come on, hire an elderly person or a youngster to answer the phone and be a face behind your front desk, who will kindly answer questions or remind people to sign-in (like you used to!) It really looks bad for you as a company to think that its patients do not deserve the kind of personal care that a front desk person would give. IF YOU NEED BLOOD DRAWN OR OTHER LAB WORK DONE, I would suggest CALLING LabCorp or other labs to see if they still respect their clientele enough to still have front desk staff. Complain to your doctor and ask them to send you elsewhere, at least until Quest Diagnostics reverses this new, awful practice of not having front desk help. Upon getting a job offer, my prospective employer sent me information to finalize the arrangement. Among the many things my offer was contingent upon was a series of background checks, credit checks, whatever they want to check and of course the drug test. The company had multiple approved locations for me to get tested but this Irvine location was closest to my office, at the time. To be diligent, I called to check the office hours which were 6am-4pm so I decided to go before work so that it would not interfere with my workday. I arrived at 5:45am and there was already 6 people in line ahead of me. We waited for them to open... just for my to find out that the drug tests are only available 8am-3pm, which my work hours completely overlaps, so that leaves lunch time. I really wish they would have been more clear with their hours and its' limitations from the beginning so I would not have to waste a trip. So round 2 at lunch. I left a little early hoping to avoid the rush... well that seems impossible. I checked in at 10:22am with 14 people ahead of me. The estimated wait time appeared on the tv in the wait area, but too bad that wait time was useless At 10:22am -- Estimated 22 min At 10:39am -- Estimated 12 min At 10:52am -- Estimated 7 min At 10:56am -- Estimated 6 min At 11:00am -- Estimated 5 min At 11:06am -- Estimated 3 min I was finally called in at 11:11am. They asked me to put my belongings into a lock box... but the box was tiny and my purse didn't fit into it so they just had me put it onto the side. It was the biggest relief when they asked me for a pee sample and not a blood sample because this place so was dirty and stinky. Also the bruise arms on Yelp gave me anxiety but what can I do if my perspective employers wanted to test me with them. Anyways... pee test... wash your hands first, take the cup, pee, don't flush, give them the "sample" and results are ready and sent to my perspective employers within 24 hours. I did not get out of there until 11:19am. I did not like the smell of this Quest Diagnostics and the estimated time was so off, I was almost better off not being deceived by the incorrect approximations. To be fair, the girl who administered my drug test was very professional and thorough so props to her for that. And their results are accurate and quick because soon after I received a call from my perspective employers to congratulate me that I am drug free and to ask me for my start date. Yay!! read more

While the technicans are good, Quest sent the bill ($922) to me rather than my insurance company. I have written 5 different times explaining the situation - my insurance (GEHA) provider has also attempted to intervene on my behalf - and talked to Quest live and in an online chat. Their answer is always "You can pay in full or set up a payment plan" and then they either hang up or drop the chat. Quest is now threatening to send the claim to a collection agency and I have contactedd the Virginia Department of Consumer Protection for assistance. read more

I have been using this particular Quest for years and never had the experience I had today! These staff members are not welcoming and have 0 customer service skills! The sign in screen is directly in the middle of the check in counter so you can't walk up to the counter. The staff walk by the counter and sees you standing there and won't even acknowledge you. I had to stand to the side of the screen and flag down a lab tech (seemed to be a short Hispanic lady...no disrespect intended) she actually answered my question. One particular staff member (black female with super short hair in a small, tiny not so neat ponytail) had dirty, wrinkled royal blue scrubs on was standing talking to another tech who was helping a patient. One tech sent a blind pt. to the waiting room and left him. He actually walked into me sitting and hit me with his cane trying to find the door to leave. Another male pt. waited to ask a question about signing in and they never acknowledged him. He then asked me to help him. I eventually left after waiting so long. The WORST customer service ever!!! Pro: Was in and out within 15 minutes with an appointment. Cons: - Staff was rude/unprofessional at every step of the way -- namely the receptionist and phlebotomist. - I've gotten a blood draw every month and have never bruised until now. Phlebotomist was clumsy, didn't seem practiced, and had poor patient etiquette. My arm still hurt 12+ hours later, which has never happened before. - My boyfriend's mother tried to come the day before me without an appointment and was rudely turned away. She was not even given the option to wait. English isn't her first language and I have no doubt this played a role. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of here. I've been to the Quest location at 15825 Laguna Canyon Rd and it was a much better and less painful experience. read more
