My husband came to get his blood drawn early in the morning and decided to wait in the car and receive a message when he was getting called. My husband received a message to make his way inside and he would get called shortly, once he stayed went inside the lady told him he missed his call in which he was NEVER called! He waited for 10 minutes after receiving that message and not once was called! The lady proceeded to tell him that he needed to wait on standby afterwards. Why would quest give you the option to wait inside your car? Why would the phlebotomist not even follow the rules in regards to that? This is so unprofessional! Never again. read more

This place is more dreadful than the DMV. Day 1: Tried to do a walk-in blood test, but was told they were not doing it that day. Fine. Nothing wrong here. They told me to make an appointment but all appointments were booked for 3 weeks out. A worker there told me they would do walk-ins on Monday and to come at 7:30 AM. Let's fast forward to Monday. Monday: I arrived before 7:30 AM to wait in line (they open at 7:30 but workers didn't come until closer to 7:45 AM and didn't start letting people in until 8 AM). There were 5 walk-ins ahead of me. They let the first 5 walk-ins go. Then they started to take those with appointments and had walk-ins wait in line for an additional 2 hours before saying that they will not be doing walk-ins anymore. If they will only be doing 5 walk-ins, don't say that tell will be doing walk-ins at all that day. And if you want to stop doing walk-ins, don't have people waiting in line for 2 more hours before you let them know. At least the DMV will deliver when I go in the mornings. read more

Long wait - Lab Corp is better. I've been waiting 2 hours to get a blood draw in Alameda at Quest. I usually go to Lab Corps but a new doctor of mine sent me to Quest and I thought I'd try it. The test is time sensitive and all appointments were booked so I walked in. At Lab Corps, as a walk-in, I'm usually seen in 15 minutes. This Quest is really understaffed. The line is out the door. I scheduled an 11am appointment weeks ago. I checked in on time via my phone AND the kiosk. The kiosk offered to text me when it was my appt time so I opted to waited outside and receive a text. They didn't text me. After 20 minutes I went in to see if they had called me. There was no one at the front desk and there were 3 employees working. By the time someone came out, they told me they could no longer help me and that I had to come back at 12:30 because they close for lunch at 11:30. She told me that they had texted me and I asked for proof. When the phlebotomist took me to the back computer to show me the proof, the proof had been magically erased. And she kept saying they had texted me while I had zero texts from them on my phone. They said they called me and I didn't answer so they could no longer help me. This used to be the best Quest with the friendliest and warmest staff. The last few times I have come, the customer service had been horrid and the staff is cold and unwelcoming. She put me in a room to wait to take my test and said she would give me more water in 30 minutes, so 55 minutes later I go to find her and she has gone to lunch, completely forgetting about me. 2. The other workers were ignoring me and said I have to wait for the original lady. Finding out 15 more minutes later that she is in the other room. No one got her for me and continued to ignore me. 3. My appointment was at 9:10 am. Got here at 8:35 am but they won't let you check in until 10 minutes before your appt time so don't even bother coming earlier than 10 mins before. They were backlogged and took me into the back at 9:40 am which isn't bad as it's about 30 mins after my appt time. As I was going back, someone else with a 9:10 am appointment time was complaining that she's been waiting for 30 mins. Like, what do you want them to do about it? They had someone who had a large order which put them behind. You want them to cut you in front of everyone else there who's been waiting? All she did was make them even more behind. She could have waited her turn and expressed her grievance and rushed them while they were drawing her blood with a needle. Place is dirty, unprofessional and completely disorganized. Went for basic health screening and had to tell them what they needed to do. Staff was scrambling to find a basic tape measure and had to pull paper out of a printer to hand write data. Floors and walls looked like hadn't been cleaned in months. Strongly recommend going somewhere else for basic lab work. Update after Quest Diagnostics (QD) response QD has posted the same reply to negative comments since 2018. What changes have been made since QD started responding "we've forwarded your comments to our region's leadership for review"? By looking at the 2019-current reviews I'd say nothing. I write this while waiting in the "appointment line" to get into the office. My appointment was at 10:15 AM and I got here at 10 AM. It is now 10:40 AM and I still haven't checked in because they won't allow you in the door until a staff member comes and gets you. One person has been let in since I got here at 10. There are three of us in the appointment line and five people in the non-appointment line. The security guard is talking on the cell phone loudly while staring at us. This is going to be a long day. I should have trusted the other low star reviews, but the short distance from my home to this lab got the best of me. Edit: I got in at 10:45 AM and was checked in by a phlebotomist who was working double-duty as a receptionist, also. He was so pleasant and fun that I had to come back to update my review. I didn't get his name, but he was a young, black man with a bright personality. He was also the one to do my blood draw. I am going to change my review from one star to four stars because of him. The intake 50 -ish year old health clerk woman was rude & disrespectful, not just to us, but a young lady who was a walk-in before us. She has a very negative attitude this afternoon at around 12:35. I hardly ever write reviews but I am compelled to warn others. This is the most inefficient place I have ever gone to (and I am including the DMV in my analysis). Not only did I make an appointment (As strongly suggested in their website), I showed up ON TIME for my appointment, checked in per the link provided by text and still had to wait outside for 40 mins just to check in. They had let in two people from the walk in line as well as two others from the appointment line before me. (Weird but ok) I am currently sitting in the lobby almost 1.5 hours after my appointment time whilst several people who get here AFTER me get seen. People with appointment times way after mine. Rating is based solely on the people. My first time here was today (01/09/2024)-with an appt. I will say getting early appts (for fasting etc) in a decent time frame here is difficult. That's the only complaint I have. My experience was very good. I was called back very close to my appt time. I had a lot of orders which I didn't realize before getting there. I am a very difficult draw for everyone everywhere. My veins are a major issue, getting my blood to come out is an issue and it clotting is an issue. I drink tons of extra water starting the whole day before to help with this. I can't imagine if I didn't. Today was a hard one. Two of the women here were working together to get it done and get my orders filled. They were very patient and kind to me (not everyone is) during such a difficult situation. They used hand warmers to help since arms were a no go. I learned about using the hand warmers before coming in now. I'll be getting some of those for future draws. I have been to a lot of labs/hospitals and have been poked by many people at all skill levels, I'm a hard draw for them all. Neither of these women hurt me. That's an important thing to mention. I would be totally cool to come back here especially with either of these two women. Unfortunately I don't remember their names. I was in room two and the other woman may have been working in the first room but I cannot say that with any real certainty. read more

Wish I could give a "0" stars. The worst. Lines are always long. Does not matter if you have an appointment, which I did and it is making no difference in waiting time. Other labs in the area are much more efficient, but was not allowed to use them in this case. I feel for the staff in dealing with extra precautions from COVID. Walls and doors have many old holes and stickers on them, with rust stains, chips, etc. Disgusting front door entrance (see pics, below). Feels like going into a second world country. Employee came out and informed us when they opened. No apologies, no clarification, just attitude. They should post their policy change so we wouldn't have waited there. I went straight to Lab Corp on Central Ave. I was processed and tested in less than ten minutes - less time than I waited for Quest to open. Quest has always looked worn and the staff miserable. The wait has always been long. Better with an appointment, but never as fast as my walk-in or appointments at Lab Corp. Give my review a thumbs up. My doctor needed blood and urine samples from me and I was sent to this location since it was closest to my house. But DAMMNN!! No one told me how hard it was to find this freaking location!!! My Google Maps was getting confused too!Eventually, I got really annoyed and asked someone that I thought was a local that lived in that surrounding area of Alameda! The local led me to a place that I didn't know existed in Alameda! It's pretty much in the back area of South Shore Shopping Center near Office Max! When I finally got to the place, I notice there were tons of non English speaking people waiting to be helped. Later I found out that they didn't make appointments and would probably be waiting there for pretty much the whole day because people with appointments were being helped first! Luckily for me, I had made an appointment ahead of time and was sent to the phlebotomist room in a reasonable time. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!!! I checked Quest's website to make an appointment. While making an appointment the walk-in time wait time popped up as 15 minutes, so I decided to walk-in. I showed up and there was a line of people outside. I waited in my car until someone came out. That person went back inside after taking an appointment inside. After that everyone waited outside. A little later, the same person came outside and scolded everyone that was a walk-in and said that we might have to wait for a really long time, that we might be sent away to make appointments, and that they might not take any more walk-ins. She then went inside again without answering any questions about the statements she made. Later, another employee came out and called for appointments and avoided looking anyone who didn't raise their hand in the eye. When I tried to get her attention she rushed inside ignoring me and everyone else. I was left to answer questions anyone who walked up had, as anyone who tried to go inside when the arrived were told to wait outside. I didn't really have any answers for anyone except for the things I was told "might" happen. After waiting for 30 minutes and literally watching the wait time listed on the Quest website for the Alameda Quest walk-ins go from 15 minutes, down to 12 minutes, and then down to 6 minutes I went inside to ask about the things I had been told "might" happen. The person at the desk said he was really sorry, acknowledged that the website was wrong, and said that he'd be out as soon as he entered paperwork. When he came out to talk to the 4 walk-ins waiting outside he said they were booked with appointments until 12, and that if someone didn't show we could be seen right away. He said and that in the next few weeks they would become appointment only (hope the website reflects that), and that they had been telling people who came in that they should definitely make appointments because walk-ins were having to wait so long (even though the website gives very inaccurate short walk-in wait times). The problem with that is you'd have to come in to be told that, or somehow magically know that their website is inaccurate. I ended up leaving because being scolded, ignored, and then told maybe I'd have to wait over 1-2 hours (or maybe not) was enough me. The building and parking lot are gross and run down. Quest facility is understaffed. The two people working there are young and clearly inexperienced. I fainted and fell out of the blood draw chair, and the employee just stood there, paralyzed, like a deer in headlights. So-called medical professionals should be capable of jumping into gear when a patient is in distress. And then they managed to only run 2 of the 6 tests requested by my doctor so I have to get blood drawn AGAIN. Overall, this facility is pretty terrible!!! read more

If you are coming here for a drug screen, GOOD LUCK! Drug screening takes place from 12pm-2pm, which is also around their lunch time I believe. 3 patients at a time since there are only 3 rooms. Appointments/lab work are prioritized over drug screenings. 1 bathroom for drug screening. Since I heard it takes a while, I came pretty early at 11am. I thought I was insanely early, but there were already 3 people in front of me. The person right in front of me came at 8am! The first person in line did not go in until 1pm. I (4th in line) did not go in until 1:45pm-1:50pm. When you go inside, you are going to check-in on the iPad at the front desk. Then you'll be directed to sit in the waiting room. Have your ID and drug screening paper out to make it easier for them! The whole drug screening process took approximately 7-10 minutes. An employee named Hannah helped me and I LOVED HER!! She was the highlight of my experience. Extremely nice and acknowledged that we were waiting for a while. We bonded a bit over small talk too! There were around 9 people behind me in line. I'm not sure if they took ALL of them, but they probably took at least 7-8 people behind me. Do NOT bring your kids or pets for drug screening. They won't take you. I feel like it would've been helpful if they put signs outside to organize the different types of lines there are. Generally, the right side of the door is for walk-ins/drug testing. The left side of the door is for appointments. Make sure you stand behind the faded tape on the ground unless you "want to get smacked by the door" LOL. I understand they are swamped with work, but it would've been nice if they communicated with the drug testing line about when they would start taking us in. Drug testing was supposed to start at 12pm, but again, the first person didn't go in until 1pm. It was their lunch time though so I understood they needed their breaks too. If verbally communicating with us was not ideal, a paper on the door explaining what to expect would've been wonderful. Probably could've saved both parties some time, confusion, and frustration. The wait wasn't too much of an issue for me, the lack of effort to communicate with us was. We were told that we "should make appointments", but I personally couldn't find any! I searched online and there were no slots available as far out as July... When I called, I wasn't able to make an appointment either. I believe there is some type of error in the system for this location to book appointments. I think a person in line tried to explain this to the front desk lady, but got a hostile response of, "Well then I don't know. We can't fix that." So.... that was very helpful! Another observation: An elderly couple was waiting inside and they didn't seem familiar with the check-in process so they kind of stood in place for a bit. When the front desk lady came back in from talking to the people outside, she told the couple to "not hold up the line" and "check in on the iPad". I helped them check-in since she was doing something else. I get it! She's busy and that's okay! I just felt like the rude attitude was uncalled for since the elderly couple was JUST confused and needed some help. I know the employees here are busy and I'm very empathetic about that. I work in the food/customer service industry AND healthcare so I understand how hectic it can get! I just don't like the attitude we were presented with (from the front desk lady) when the main issue was miscommunication and confusion. Came here because I needed a drug screening done this is the closest location to me that does that within a 10 mile radius. Made eye contact with the lady sitting in the back so they are aware somebody is in the waiting room due to the various Blindspot's and nobody maintaining the front desk. Long story short I filled out what I needed you on the tablet was sitting standby for a few minutes lady came to the front and asked if I had appointment I told no and she automatically said no we don't do walkins without even asking what service I need it nasty attitude, agitated body language. Obviously she doesn't wanna work pissed off at the world but that's not my problem I'm here to get this done so I can acquire myself a job. If you don't like yours I suggest you find a new one. Additional sidenote when you refer somebody to another location common sense would be to ask where they are traveling from instead of redirecting of 30+ miles to a different site. Terrible service. Family member walked in a few days ago for a drug screening and was told it would be a long wait because appointments are prioritized (which is valid). Was told to come back later without being told a cut-off time. Upon returning, was told it was too late because there was a cut-off time for drug screenings. Was also told "you can't bring your kids here". Same family member returned today with a scheduled appointment after having to coordinate child care, but was told they would not be seen because appointments were overbooked. I will never go back here ever in my life! For one, they don't take walk-ins anymore and when you do make an appointment the guard outside looks you up and down and questions you why you are there like you're trespassing or something. And on top of that when there is a line outside you have to sit there and listen to her while she's on her personal phone calls talking so loud to make sure everyone hears what's going on in her life. I have been here so many times and they've only once asked me for my insurance card (the first time I came there) but this day she was training some new guy so I guess she was trying to show him how to treat someone if they don't bring their physical card with them. She tried running my insurance from the information I could remember but it was saying it was termed which I knew was not the case because I have been using my insurance all 2022 without any issues. I told her since I didn't have it can't you just look up to see what insurance company you billed all the times before?? She refused to look and said they don't keep that information. Which that's f'ing bullshit! I work in healthcare and know damn well you can always see who you billed previously. Then she told me if I still wanted to get the test done I would have to pay $137 upfront to do it, WTF?! So she refused and I took my time off work to go there for nothing! I called their corporate office after and they confirmed that they in fact can look it up she was just being a bi*** like always. I don't know what happened to actual healthcare workers that help their patients instead of treating them like sh**?! I'm pissed. Stay with me on this... Quests operational model is horribly broken. We'll come back to that, but the Alameda location is competing for the worst of the worst award. I made an appointment for my second blood draw A MONTH in advance, and received a confirmation. On the day of...LOL. No appointment exists and the confirmation number THEY gave me was no longer valid. Their system vaporized my appointment. This after I scheduled the blood work precisely 3 days before seeing my Doctor so my labs would be available by then. Of course there are no available times for the next 7 days so standby is a LOL. I then find a timeslot across town, race over there just in time...but my information never made into their system from my last Quest nightmare. I called the local number to see if they can dig up anything, but it routs to a national line. The person answering is in no position to help you locally, and no locations are staffed enough to answer their own phone. There's your busted operational model and not a single mid-level manager at Quest has the acumen for it. The Alameda location actually has an attendant though...and this is very "special". She has zero knowledge of Quest Diagnostics, doesn't wear a uniform or any identifying badges, and frankly not a well put-together person. Her job is literally to sit in her beat up car with mismatched panels (sus AF!) and jump out whenever someone tries to enter the office to rudely challenge them if they have an appointment. If they don't, she tells them...to make one or go on standby. That's it. That's the sum total of her employment demands. Easy? For some. For her? Oh my. Last time she angrily berated some elderly woman and sarcastically "helped" her through using the touchpad, going out of her way to make that poor old lady feel as bad as she could with each click. It was horrific to watch. It was such an egregious violation of common decency that the other clients had to comfort that poor woman. Oh...it gets better. When this so called attendant learned I had an 8:00am appointment, and the next client who walked up behind me a 7:50am, she actually thought that meant I am not allowed to even enter the waiting room until the 7:50am walked through the doorframe before me. Why? Apparently so we could both sit there with all the other stacked up appointments WAY past our scheduled times anyway?! WTF is going on here?!?! Yes people. She's SO DUMB, she actually thinks an 8:00am is not allowed to so much as walk in front of a 7:50am AND she literally barred me from entering the building until the 7:50am took two steps in from of me. Then we both walked in and sat there for the next half hour. When I said "Oh...I see...we must enter the building in the order of our appointments" because she just made a stink that that was the case, she then proceeded to follow me into the waiting room and angrily scold a grown ass man like a nuisance child in front of the other clients for "being rude and difficult". Frankly it was offensive, abrasive, abysmal customer service, and reeks of rank incompetence everywhere. I didn't think to get a pic, but I have another appointment in a month. This presents a problem when they have very limited hours, they take all appointments before even working with non appointments, and when you are working on a time frame, it is extremely frustrating. When I realized I forgot my insurance card, I was told I could go home and get it and they would work me in. I literally live 2 minutes away. This is now the third time I have had a stressful experience at the Alameda Quest location. The one star is for the convenience of being close to home. I went this morning for some bloodwork, and again, there was noone at the front desk to assist patients. Maybe a bell to ring would be nice? Just in case patients have a question and do not want to miss their appointment time. When a women needed help with her check-in this morning, a technician from the back happened to walk out to call the next patient...only to tell the lady she must not have an appointment if the tablet wasn't letting her do so...and then closed the door. She was with her elderly mother and was left worried and stressed about missing her appointment (the waiting room is small and I was able to hear their conversation). When I was called, Maria brought me back to begin the blood draw. She had trouble finding my vein, which is not unusual for me to hear. Some technicians find them easily, some have a harder time. I was not bothered by this at all. Then Maria asked me if I had any water to drink. I told her no. She then began to seem frustrated and tell me that I should drink more water. I was silent becuase one, the rude and unhelpful staff here is not new to me, and two, I was tired. She informed me that she would have to repoke me and I said that was fine. She continued to tell me that she didn't know why I didn't drink water and that it was hard to find the veins. I then calmly told her that I was told to fast and that I was unaware that I needed to be drinking a certain amount of water. I explained that it was not unusual for some technicians to have trouble finding my veins from time to time. She responded harshly with a yes, because you need to drink water. My anxiety spiked at that point. I was trying to not let my anxiety get the best of me and told her that maybe there was a disconnect between Quest and Doctors on the importance of needing water before tests. She snapped, "There is no disconnect" at which time she inserted the needle quite forcefully a second time. I was silent. I was tired. I do not write "bad" reviews often, but after leaving I felt should have said more. Explained more? Expressed my frustration more? Stood up for myself. I tried to look for a Quest complaint contact, but was unable to. So, for anyone needing some labs done at Quest: Don't go to the Alameda location if you don't have to. If you do, or have an elderly loved one going, maybe tag along? And if you can go to another location, the staff and experience at 3300 Webster St. #109 in Oakland has always been quick and wonderful. I hope this review helps. read more

IF I could give ZERO stars I would! I am in my car so angry and cold, I am writing it now. It just took me 2 hours and 35 mins to get a UDS for a side job!! I was only 3rd in line. I was a walk-in because there were no appointments available by my 3 day deadline. AND I waited 2 HOURS yesterday and had to leave. There is NO communication from the staff as to what to do but "get in line". Only when I made it to the front, I was allowed to check in and received a text 5 mins later they were ready for me. Im like WHY don't you guys let people check-in from the jump and wait in the car??? It was freezing outside with no chairs, and they even had old people standing up in line! Appointments and walk ins both wait outside. If you have a disability, please go somewhere else. This had got to be the worse, slowest moving lab place I've seen in my life. Don't blame COVID-19 because its been a hard year and you should have it together better than this... old people standing up freezing outside, give me a break!! Even an older lady in a wheelchair with an appointment waited an hour SMH. And when I asked the front desk why I couldn't check-in and wait in my car, she was like NO and said wait outside. No communication, no explanation, and I will definitely report this to my job. They need to find somewhere else for employees to do UDS my goodness, it was absolutely terrible!! read more

I don't understand how they can claim to offer employment drug testing services. No appointments available online or through the phone automated system. So against my better judgement I decide to show up as a walk in and got turned away. Turns out they only offer drug testing between 12-2 pm on weekdays...and they are usually "really busy" with "no guarantee you will be seen" As I was being turned away I asked the receptionist if I could schedule an appointment and she advised me all appointments are handled through a third party system and they cannot do anything onsite... I realize now that this facility simply does not want to do employment drug testing - was a big waste of my time and I hope you read this and save yours and go to another testing site read more

This location makes it tough to give a review over 3stars and even that feels generous. On one hand the wait is way too long, even if you have an appointment. That alone could make you never want to go back and people are known to leave out of frustration for the wait times. If you're a walk-in, be prepared to stand outside for 1-2+hrs on a good day. Regardless of how you arrive, expect to dedicate time to going and count on the folks on line to direct you because they are understaffed and rarely come outside to check on the folks in line except to usher people in at random. Due to covid, there is limited occupancy in the waiting room. As of this review - 4 people may wait inside. You check in using the kiosk and typically there has been no admin to support explaining what to do and when there is, they don't tell you much. The facility is well understaffed and the health care workers are hustling. They are the light in this place and need a bit of patience from patients but I'm not sure that they receive the appreciation that they deserve. I want to specifically acknowledge Tiffany who works at this location who has been kind and generous on all visits explaining necessary info, trying to get folks set up and making you feel comfortable while she does her work and completes your blood work. I would give her all the stars I had because she works hard! There are some rotating admin staff and some are definitely better (ie more communicative than others). Manage your expectations when you decide to go here as it will support your mental well-being and please be kind to the phlebotomists. read more
