They don't have a dedicated receptionist and the technicians seem to have to field patients as well as testing so I can understand potentially being overwhelmed but still, it's unnecessary to be rude or uncommunicative. NOTE TO WALK-INS They don't take walk-ins after 3pm (or hour before closing) but that includes if you arrive prior to that time and get onto the walk-in list. They should post this on their front door along with their hours because the technician was unclear which caused a couple of us to wait around unnecessarily until we realized she wasn't going to help us. read more

They are reported online, their website and their front door as opening at 730am. 734am woman opens door 752am not one person has been called in for a draw 755am an angry older woman with appointment was told the computers are still loading but ok come back Marie will take your specimen 758am Marie comes out with her trainee and gives a 3 minute lecture about how we should go to Castro Valley or Southland because every patient with an appointment gets priority and each patient can have multiple orders and you could wait hours unless you're lucky and I try to squeeze you in. Walk in are not guaranteed. I have appointments every 10 minutes. 805am no one has yet to be drawn, there are 3 folks total in the waiting room. If she truly had appointments every 10 minutes then figuratively she could have drawn 4 people by now. How many drawn at this point? ZERO. 808am I am called back, I am given a lecture about how lucky I am that she had a cancelation. Lecture continues in front of her trainee (who incidentally needs to run far away from this place because she's way too nice to deal with this level of nonsense) lecture continues about how much work she has to do, how all the young ones come for 6 months and leave, how no one wants to work, take long breaks, use their own computers, etc. But I can say and I have experience that I could have drawn at least 3 people in the time it took her to rant and rave. I could have left, but my tubes weren't even labeled yet so I needed to stay to confirm that they got processed. Not sure who the manager is, but this woman Marie is so damn inappropriate and awful she needs to be fired immediately whether she's the only worker or not. I will be posting the same review in both as well as Google Reviews: See below for a complaint i made to corporate after yesterday's visit (don't order from quest): Subject: Formal Complaint - Quest Diagnostics Alameda Location (November 27) I sincerely wish I had reviewed the ratings for the Alameda location prior to scheduling my appointment. On November 27th, I experienced the worst customer service I have ever encountered in a healthcare setting. I arrived several minutes before my scheduled 2:30 PM PST appointment. Upon entering, there were approximately two appointments ahead of me according to the check-in monitor. There was no staff member at the front desk to assist patients -- only a malfunctioning iPad kiosk for check-in. The system was glitchy and required insurance verification despite my having a valid digital copy. After multiple attempts, my check-in was eventually confirmed. As I waited, additional patients arrived. Two were called back. When a third patient -- who arrived after me -- approached, the phlebotomist stated abruptly, without apology, that "we aren't taking walk-ins today." Two patients expressed frustration and left. The environment already felt disorganized and poorly managed. After approximately 35 minutes past my scheduled appointment time, and after four patients had been called in, I approached the phlebotomist to confirm that I was checked in. She asked if I had signed in. I confirmed that I had. She insisted I had not and attempted to end the conversation, telling me to try checking in again. By this point, the system would not allow me to re-check-in due to the elapsed time. I was effectively told there was nothing that could be done and that I would need to reschedule. Rather than attempting to troubleshoot the situation, she appeared dismissive and raised her hands as if there were no solutions. There was still no other visible staff member present to assist or verify the issue. As I was leaving, she came back out and said she would "take me this time," but then added that she had checked the cameras and that I was not present at my scheduled time. Being called a liar after arriving early and waiting 35-40 minutes was unacceptable. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable allowing someone who questioned my honesty to perform my blood draw. I left. While sitting in my car, I observed another employee in scrubs enter through a side door shortly before closing -- someone I had seen pass through earlier, presumably on break. This raises further concerns about staffing and operational oversight. This experience reflects either: A lack of adequate staffing and support leading to burnout and poor patient interaction, or Employees who are disengaged and not supported or managed effectively. Given the already low rating of this location (2.3 stars), it is clear this is not an isolated incident. In healthcare, professionalism, organization, and patient trust are critical. This experience did not meet even the most basic standard of care. Fortunately, my physician was able to redirect my lab order to LabCorp. I will not be returning to this location. I hope leadership reviews both the operational workflow and staffing structure at this facility to prevent similar experiences for other patients. read more

I went to Quest today with an appointment scheduled for 3:10 PM, but I arrived at 8:40 AM hoping to be seen earlier as a walk-in. There was no one working the front desk, so I had to track someone down just to explain my situation. I was told I'd be the first walk-in to be seen--something that never actually happened. One staff member eventually put me in for a 9:10 appointment, only to later remove me from that and place me at the very end of the walk-in list. It's now 10:21 AM, I've been here since 8:40, and I still haven't been seen. The employees were not only rude and dismissive, but completely incompetent at doing the job they're hired to perform. They seemed disorganized, uninterested, and showed blatant favoritism. One woman walked in 30 minutes after me and has already been seen and is on her way out, while I continue to wait without any explanation. Follow up blood work since there were a couple of questionable numbers on a previous lab. Tried to keep it closer to home this time and made an appointment. At this location appointments are very important since it apparently is a major drug testing site. I got there early to a packed room where periodically one of the blood sucker's would come out and inform the group if you don't have an appointment you may as well go home because it's not going to happen for you today. I was called in right at my appointment time. The blood draw was efficient, all 6 tubes, and out the door. There was a delay in getting results due to I have multiple addresses. Still trying to clean that up. Anyway, results came in after a quick phone call and all numbers are perfect. My doctor says I'm healthier than a 16 year old Mormon boy. read more

I needed to get blood work by Friday. I went on their website and saw hours of operations. I tried to call them to confirm hours but ended up in prompt hell. I tried calling the Webster St location but call dropped every time I called. So i went to the Alameda location and signed in as a drop-in at 3:20 p.m. Someone came out and told me that they didn't accept drop-ins after 3 p.m. This was not stated on the website. There are good and bad things. Overall, most of the people doing the draws have been good. That's the most important part. But... The downsides: 1. A complete mess inside! Do not expect a reasonably organized environment. I always wonder about the cleanliness because everything is such a mess that I wonder if it can be kept clean enough. It seems decently clean, but not sure... 2. You cannot talk to a person. There is no way to call in advance to ask a question. You have to sign in on a tablet device, there is no one staffing the front desk. Again, no way to ask anyone anything. Very customer-UN-friendly!! This is a huge turnoff for me. For example, I was dropping off a specimen so I didn't have an appointment, but it turned out I was supposed to have an appointment for the dropoff (which they didn't tell me when I picked up the stuff), so I'm sitting there with the specimen in my lap waiting and finally let someone know that this thing is supposed to be refrigerated. They took it but I still had to wait longer and then sit in an exam room while they typed things into a computer for a long time. 3. The room where you pee in a cup is freezing cold and has nowhere to put the specimen cup down. Luckily I have not had any troubles with the actual blood draws, the people have been good. But it must not be a great place to work because I have never, I mean never ever, seen anyone that was there on a previous visit. I keep going there because it's convenient and I haven't had trouble with the blood draws themselves, but I wouldn't recommend the place, and I might try going somewhere else instead. read more

Had a appt for Christmas Eve at 11am. I arrived 30 minutes early knowing they closed at 12 and that I had a timed glucose test and would need to be seen a bit earlier to start the process. I stood at the front desk starting at 10:25am waiting for someone to come help at the front. I never moved and no one walked up to the front until 10:50am. I told the older woman working that I was here for the timed test and she said she couldn't see me today cause they close at 12. I made it pretty clear I was here 30 minutes earlier standing at the front and no one even came to help and she said she was the only one working. Super rude and unprofessional. No real explanation except that she had to go home at 12pm. They really shouldn't take appointments if they're not going to honor them - even with a timed test. I understand needing to be off at 12pm, but I showed up 30 minutes early for my appointment knowing it would take a while. It's not my fault the one woman working claiming to be the only one took 30 minutes just to treat one patient. There's no air conditioning so even on a cool pleasant day, you'll be praying for swift release from the stifling air. But there is no swift release. You will wait and wait and wait. Came here to get prenatal labs drawn. They are always so full you can't do walk ins. When I tried to call nobody answers. So I went online to make an appointment. There were many slots open but because I selected prenatal labs the website would not let me confirm my appointment. So frustrating! So I went back in my selection and just selected regular labs and finally the website let me book and appt. Sadly it took me about 20 minutes to realize this which is why I'm letting you know! When I got there, there is nobody at the front desk and you check in on the tablet. The one plus was that because I got my appointment the wait was only 8 minutes. When I got in the room, I ask the lady if I could quickly use the restroom. She just made me wait and as a pregnant person who has gotten a UTI during pregnancy they tell you to go as soon as your feel the urge! Then she also couldn't find me jn the system and took forever to find my labs when I had the lab sheet with the stickers. I had to excuse myself as I was about to explode (keep in mind I went to the restroom at my house and I live close by). When she found me she entered my information in the system and could not spell Boulevard correctly.... I was like omg and she's going to draw my labs.... In the end, she was able to with one poke but the customer service here is not great... Also hydrate before you go, I drink 2 liters before going to that they get your labs with one poke! read more

The waiting room is incredibly small and stuffy. If someone is sick and you want to step out of the door to get fresh air during your 1-2 hour typical wait here, they will only call you name once from the door and not bother to see if the person is standing outside even though they know people have been waiting forever. I saw a 90 year old woman step outside for fresh air and they called her name once, then quickly closed the door. When I went out to say are you so and so she said yes! And she tried to knock but they didn't answer and when someone finally came out they wouldn't help her she started crying it was terrible. read more

Complete cluster of a place. Every other lab I've ever been to, I've been in and out of within 10 minutes. This is not every other lab. The outside 'security' that directs people and the inside staff seem to have two totally different systems in place, and no communication. You will be told to wait in a line outside.... Endlessly. And the 'line' is a crowd of people scattered outside and in the parking lot. But the indoor staff seems to have no idea there are people actually waiting outside. After waiting outside for nearly an hour, the security guard informed the crowd of people waiting that the lab would not be taking any walk-ins for the day. Had to drive to another town to a different location. Complete waste of time. No idea what's behind all the disorganization, but it is entirely disrespectful to patients and their time. Some upper crust from Quest needs to actually visit this place and straighten things out. Go to any location but this one, seriously. The one silver lining is that there some friendly pigeons right outside building a nest overhead, so you have the pleasure of watching them work while you wait... and wait you will. read more

I've been standing in line, outside the crappy little facility, for one hour. I need a drug test for a new job, which is what everybody else here is saying. I'd tried to make an appointment but none were available for this entire week. It was nearly impossible to find the place; my gps couldn't get it right, and there are no signs anywhere. Turns out it's behind the South Shore shopping center in a spot I never knew existed. I only found it by parking my car and following walking directions on my phone's map. Somebody just came out to say they're stopping drug testing in 30 minutes. There are at least 6 people in front of me. I don't know if I'll be able to get the drug test today, and I have no idea how to make it happen tomorrow or any other day. Epilogue: I got the test done, the tech was great and it went pretty fast. Gave me the creeps. This place is old, rundown, and filthy, with a horrible smell that makes it feel like you're walking into a bathroom. Everything about it feels off-- uncomfortable, and unsettling. The staff are dismissive, and unprofessional. The phlebotomists complained about how hard my veins were and accusatorily asked if I had drunk water before coming in. I was poked twice--the limit one person is allowed to poke--and then had to wait while the second worker took her time in the bathroom, all while complaining about needing "quiet time." Appt. made 2+ weeks prior due to Quest's schedule being full in the AM. New electronic sign in process provides no assistance to elders or those who may not be able to complete the sign in process without assistance. Leaving waiting patients to assist. Or unregistered patients will unknowingly have others signing in before them. Limited seating only one side of the room forces you to watch the check-in process. The large TV displays appointments with a portion of the patient' names as they check in. Which can also be done on your cell phone. I arrived 40 mins. prior to appointment time, checked in, and was the only one in that time for 30 mins. When another patient with the same appointment time arrived/checked in 10 mins prior to the same appt. time, as the TV showed, they were 2nd in line for that appt. time. But somehow was called before me. Makes no sense. Lastly, if you have no appt., then you are just on standby. If you need lab work sooner than later you must wait until in the waiting room until there is an opening in the time slot. It's time to use a different lab location. Even with new technology, check-in time is still an issue at this location and always an unnecessary wait for one reason or another. read more

Worst experience ever!! My phlebotomy person Robin was surly to another client who was dropping off a sample for his wife. My draw HURT which she told me "it couldn't " because she wasn't moving. I'm a diabetic. I'm used to the vampires and how much they take, usually 5 vials. Because I wasn't bleeding enough, she had to draw from the other arm! She Dave me look as if I had done something. I would give this lab zero stars if possible. I also tried leaving a review with the parent company but Quest did not make that easier either. The employees here are so rude, especially the older Hispanic lady. They are short and mean to everyone. The location requires masks but does not have any to give patients. Even with an appointment you will wait at least 30 minutes. This location is mismanaged and needs corporate supervision. I feel terrible for everyone in Alameda because this is the closet location. Save your time and energy and schedule an appointment with LabCorp or the Quest in Castro Valley. The Castro Valley location is very effluent and friendly. Usually, I would dread coming to Quest just like the DMV bc of the extremely long line and wait times, but this time wasn't so bad. When I arrived for my 11am appointment, there was no line and surprisingly no patients in the waiting room (probably bc it was a Saturday?). They do seem understaffed though since no one was at the front desk when I got there. You check in on the iPad. Got called in to get my blood test almost right away. The phlebotomist was able to get the blood vials drawn with one poke and made sure I was at ease. I was in and out of there within 15 minutes or so. Efficient service! No complaints for this visit. My husband came to get his blood drawn early in the morning and decided to wait in the car and receive a message when he was getting called. My husband received a message to make his way inside and he would get called shortly, once he stayed went inside the lady told him he missed his call in which he was NEVER called! He waited for 10 minutes after receiving that message and not once was called! The lady proceeded to tell him that he needed to wait on standby afterwards.
