This place is kind of set back from the road so I keep forgetting it is there but decided to try it. I had a burrito with Birria- meat was very good, but the tortilla was the star of the show, so much better than a store bought tortilla. The green sauce it came with was also very good. So, I got home from work, and the power was out at my house and estimate for restoration was about 4 hours....I needed to run out to get some more batteries and noticed Quesa Tacos...I was trying to figure out where to go for dinner, and so decided to try somewhere new. I saw fried snapper on the specialty section of the menu (pescado frito) and had to get it. The last time I had a whole fried red snapper was from a kiosk near the beach when I was on vacation in Puerto Rico. Oh wow this was good! The fish was seasoned nicely, cooked perfectly and was nice and crisp and not greasy. I ate the whole thing. The rice, plantains and salad were all fresh and delicious as well. Seriously, I know most people will come here for the tacos, but if you like fish, don't miss this. Service was great; you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. They have fountain drinks and also serve alcoholic beverages including margaritas and beer for sure, but it looked like they might have more options as well. I just went with a soft drink tonight but nice to know there's the option for tacos and a margarita here in the future. I definitely want to come back to try other items. Well Yelp Nation, I can't agree with you on this one. $4-5 for a street taco is on the high side but fine if the taco is delicious. The meat in my carnitas taco was very dry and tasteless. So dry it was hard to chew. The meat was in large chunks and tended to fall out of the tortilla. The flavor of the chorizo on the chorizo taco was dull. No garlic, chile powder or smoked paprika flavor and the meat was covered in a blanket of cilantro. The chicken on the mole chicken taco was DRY and overcooked and the mole sauce was not complex at all. It was just sweet. I like to try a restaurant at least twice before reviewing it but I don't see myself going back to Queso Taco. The best thing that I ate was the hot tomatillo salsa on the salsa bar. The restaurant is a order at the counter and wait restaurant like many other "Fast food' taco places that are popping up around Indianapolis. So excited to see a fresh Hispanic restaurant open up in Carmel. You can't go wrong with street tacos - unless you try to make them on your own. So go to a bricks and mortar place that cares enough to invest in a community instead of playing Russian roulette with truck locations. I love the traditional Americanized Mexican restaurants like El Rodeo, but ordering ingredients from Sysco and ordering them off a menu requires a change of scenery. I got the Torta Cubana, and it had a lot of meat, and it was very tasty. Probably not the healthiest and probably too many calories, but that is to be expected for a torta. The wait was not bad and the prices were fair. It was a nice building. I ordered at the front then they brought my food to me, and they told us to just leave the dishes at our table when we left. Street tacos are filled to the point it is a challenge to contain all the ingredients while holding and eating. They offer a salsa bar. If you don't like spicy, the salsa bar may be challenging as most I tried had some kick to them. Above and beyond expectations! This store opened up down the street from my work so I thought I'd go through the drive through and give it a try. I ordered two of their $4 tacos and had no idea what to expect, but these tacos were loaded! They were beautifully packaged in an aluminum tin that made it ridiculously easy to eat in the car with no mess. Two layers of corn tortilla which kept together well, two containers of salsa on the side, two limes, and loads of flavor. Not to mention I could see the kitchen from the drive through window and it was spotlessly clean. And staff was really kind and friendly! Highly recommend and will definitely be back.
