Met up with some close girlfriends for some girl talk and some delicious Mexican food. Well, we got the girl talk in, but we didn't really get the delicious Mexican food we were craving. Everything was just mediocre. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere, and the service. I had to flag down a server just to take our drink orders, which consisted of the jumbo frozen margaritas or what we called overpriced slurpees. They barely had any alcohol in them and for $16 each, we were rather disappointed. I ordered the chicken enchiladas suizas and I swear they came out looking like my homies chicken enchiladas verdes. The sauce was all wrong and they didn't taste like any chicken enchiladas suizas I've eaten in the past, but were pretty good nonetheless. The food literally came out five minutes after we ordered. Ha! Talk about quick service. Our server was basically nonexistent throughout our meal and we had to track her down when we needed something. I will say that the hostess and other servers started to check on us throughout the evening because it looked like our original server left for the evening. For the amount of money the drinks and food cost, I really can't say that I would make a return appearance. They don't offer happy hour specials, the layout of the restaurant is rather cluttered with tables and chairs on top of each other, and I've had much better Mexican food in other restaurants. My boyfriend and I went in and around 3:30 pm and the restaurant was basically empty except us and another couple. There was a nice atmosphere and they were playing music. We were immediately waited on. The chips and salsa were delicious and tasted fresh. The Paloma ($9) was really really gross. It was green instead of pink and tasted of artificial lime juice (instead of grapefruit). First let me preface with I have high expectations for a place labeling itself as "authentic". We were seated quickly and the staff was welcoming. The chips were nice and warm. The salsa was watery and flavorless. It was like the forgot to put the other ingredients or it was some commercialized canned not fresh salsa. Not what I would have expected. Tacos de fajitas The chicken was flavorless and tasted very Americanized. The beans were just okay, again lacking spices and flavor. The rice was bland also. Don't expect authentic Mexican food it's more like Tex-Mex. The chips and salsa with that taste like canned salsa sauce, I ordered chilaquiles verdes didn't have a kick at all. My first time visiting this little secret in Gambrills, MD and I was not disappointed! I wanted authentic Mexican fare and they delivered. I had the Burrito de Carnitas which was absolutely phenomenal...the pork, the guacamole, the entire thing was on point. My food partner in crime had the Parrillada which looked and smelled great. My family and I have eaten here many times since my initial review. I'm sad to say that this place has gone downhill. The past 4-5 times I've gotten carry out, the food has been lacking in flavor, greasy, or just plain overcooked. I'd say, "okay, maybe they just had an off night" or "maybe the next time will be better" but it hasn't improved. The food is quite expensive for what you get. Yes, you get a lot of food, but the quality isn't there anymore. The refried beans are still pretty good. The rice gets blander and blander every time we order it. They charge for chips and salsa on takeout orders, even if you're ordering a lot of food. The chips are devoid of any flavor and are usually hard and overcooked. The salsa is watered down. I made my final take out order last month. I ordered the Pollo al Chorizo (chicken breast topped with cheese and chorizo) with beans and rice. The chicken was completely overcooked. It was so done that it crunched in my mouth and was tough to chew and cut. There was a ton of chorizo, though. My mom ordered the Sampler (chicken flautas, chicken fajita nachos, beef quesadilla) with guacamole and sour cream. It was a disappointment. It should have been put into two containers. Everything was a sopping greasy mess because of the nachos. The beef quesadillas were good even if they were greasy on the bottom. The chicken flautas were okay but a bit overdone. The chips for the nachos were greasy and inedible. The nachos were mostly peppers. The chicken for the nachos was good and cooked fine. My dad ordered the Tamales Pollo (two chicken tamales) with rice and beans. They were flavorless. He liked the sauce on top, though. He liked the beans and thought the rice was bland, also. Overall, unless of the quality of food improves back to the way it was, we won't be back. read more

Really delicious food here. I loved the sampler with fajita chicken nachos, flautas, and quesadillas. Everything was served hot and was seasoned really well. We sat at the bar and received great attentive service and delicious drinks despite them being extremely busy on the afternoon of Cinco De Mayo. Queretaro is really family friendly! There were soooooo many children all over the place. Every. Single. Table. had kids galore. There were babies and children everywhere like they were giving away free kids meals which was cute at first but isn't how I like to enjoy margarita pitchers, so I can't say that I'd go back to dine in. Even if this was the best Mexican food in the country, I could never justify spending nearly 100 bucks for this meal, ever. We came today, Memorial Day, we really enjoyed ourselves. Great atmosphere, our waiter was phenomenal and he made amazing drinks!! I had a pina colada and it was probably the best one I've ever had. My boyfriend had the amber doe Equis and really enjoyed it as well. The food was very good and we loved how thick the chips and salsa were while we waited. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because who ever the manager is really doesn't care for their employees. Today is a national holiday and there were only 2 people working as servers. They both held it down very professional and made sure everyone was well taken care of. They were literally running around the restaurant caring for everyone. I am so sad to write this review because I order here frequently via Door Dash for the past few years. I love their enchiladas. Yesterday the weather was nice and it was Tuesday, so I figured I'll get my family out the house to get some fresh air and dine out. My first time ever coming to this restaurant, I was treated poorly and ended up leaving before even sitting down to order. I'm a pretty laid back person, I don't get bent out of shape over small things but I just did not like how I was treated and didn't want that same treatment correlated with my food. When I first walked in the restaurant, my family was never greeted by anyone although 2 employees walked in front of us as we stood at the hostess station. We stood there for a good 5 minutes. One of the employees that walked by us came back and never said hi or anything, he just very blandly said how many. So I said, Hi and paused for him to exchange a greeting and he literally just stared at me. So I proceeded with "a table for 4 please. Then I asked if we could sit on the patio or was it a wait. He said it was a wait, like he had an attitude. So I asked how long was the wait because he wasn't giving me any information upfront. Lol. He literally said "I don't know" and wasn't going to follow up with anything else until I looked at him like he was crazy. He finally says maybe 20-30 mins. So I told him I would just take a table inside. He pointed behind him at 2 tables and he says you can sit there. I look behind him at the two tables and asked uhhh, which one? I just left at that point. I'm not sure if this is how they normally do business but I didn't like it at all. read more

There must be a big corporation that owns these restaurants because I've eaten at a number of these Tex-Mex style restaurants and with minor variations the menus, items and flavors have been nearly the same. There's a restaurant called La Carreta in Lynchburg, VA; there was a restaurant in Bowie, MD called Mi Hacienda; there is a restaurant in Crofton called Mi Casita and this one in Gambrills and the menus, items and flavors have been nearly identical for all four. However, in this case that's a good thing- my favorite being La Carreta as that was the first time I ate Mexican food that didn't come from a place with 'Taco' in the name and I really, really enjoyed it. Imagine my surprise when I first sampled Mi Hacienda to see not only the same food items, but drinks and the flavors- all of which brought back fond memories. They've since closed down and so I was a little sad, until I discovered Mi Casita one day on my way to the MD Renaissance Faire, also in Crofton. My wife and I were actually on our way to Fuji Japanese Steakhouse, which is right next door to Queretaro when we noticed that it wasn't the Thai place it used to be. We decided right then to just walk in and give it a try- and we are glad we did. Though a little pricier than the previously mentioned establishments, I couldn't say it wasn't worth it. The area it is in has something to do with that, I'm sure. Will we come back? Probably; though if we're looking for Mexican we might consider Casita first, but the wife really likes the Waugh Chapel area in general so it is pretty likely we have a new favorite for Mexican. read more

We decided to run next-door to catch a late lunch and we've never eaten here before so that was a bonus. Both my husband and I got similar dishes and out daughter got a kids dish. The waiter was fine but not super friendly or anything. He basically took our order, brought us our food, & took our money..... the end.... and that will be the phrase of my visits to this restaurant. The end. The food was blah and the rice had a funny taste. I love my Spanish rice but I couldn't force this down. So we spent about $50-$60 on two dishes, soda, and a kids dish for yuck food. If you love Mexican than I think you'll really enjoy this spot. It's tucked away at the Crofton Town Center's Main Street but it definitely worth the trip. The wait staff is very attentive and professional but the food is simply awesome. We had the Fajitas Del Mar and the Carnitas Burrito and both dishes were phenomenal. We also had one of my favorites libations, the Jalapeno Martini and that too was spot on cuz I hate sweet drinks but I love drinks with the right "kick" and character and this hit the spot. read more

Everyone from the ladies at the front desk to the waiters were extremely friendly. They were very generous with their serving size (we came in for dinner), and the skillet had more food than I expected. I think it could've feed 4 people. It was well worth the price, which I should mention, isn't that bad at all. Most definitely recommend this place. The only downside is that is really tiny, however, it's always packed which I'm sure is good for business, but you'll have to wait a bit to grab a seat. I loveeeeee some Mexican!! Firstly, walking into this place it doesn't look like your typical Mexican restaurant. The tile and decor is however does look like things that you can find in Mexico and we're super beautifully arranged. We chose to sit on their large patio area. The menu is huge! The prices are a little more expensive than I thought, but when I got my food I saw why. I got carne asada tacos, which usually have meat cut in small pieces, but the steak that was in there was massive strips and so delicious! The carne asada plate came with three large tacos, rice and beans. I also got horchata. Horchata is a rice drink that looks like the leftovers of milk in a bowl after eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch. It was amazing and tasted homemade!!! Beware, haha, I asked for salsa verde, and they brought out a bowl of what looked like mole, this stuff was banginngggggg. But my mouth was so on fireit was well worth the suffering. Service was fast and good, no complaints here. Bill was a little more than I thought but we got good food and great portions so it was worth it. Parking is a shared parking lot. read more

You know what I've found to be rare at most Mexican restaurants? Authenticity, and spot-on rice AND beans both. Queretaro has both. Their food is not only authentic, but regional to the owners' home area. The unique flavors come through in their recipes, so be sure to be brave and try something a little less standard. Definitely check out their specials. Rice, solid. Beans, amazing. I have rarely if ever seen both in a restaurant. Sometimes, the beans are really good, but the rice is dead and bland. Other times, the rice is bangin', but the beans are pert' near inedible. I found both crucial sides here to be wonderfully prepared and delicious. The food was served incredibly hot (watch those plates!), and tantalizing to the eyes, nose, and taste buds. We had the Enchiladas Suizas and Carnitas. Both were fantastic, and very well seasoned. The flavors were spot on, and definitely very filling. No appetizers (save the complementary chips and salsa), and we barely finished the entrées (or didn't really finish them all the way, technically). And we still had no room for dessert. Filling doesn't begin to describe it. The parking in Waugh Chapel can be hit or miss, but that's out of their control, really. The location is great, though, right in between the entrance and theater. The servers are very friendly and helpful, you need but ask, and ye shall receive. Overall, outstanding. I ordered the lunch portion combination fajitas which came out quickly. The fajitas were not seasoned well at all.
