After we were about to leave the door guy offered us 2 for 10 dollars. (That's cool... My friend (still) already paid) we walked off at that point. Your bar was completely empty at the time, to management, may I suggest frosted additions to the windows? And to everyone else thinking of coming here to visit... "HARD PASS".... 10 dollars in Seattle to get in... Good luck with that... Or 15 or 20 in my case (depending on the situations offered). Yaay for double charging! As a business, you're welcome to treat potential customers like sh*t, but expect people to share their experiences and avoid your business like the plague. Honestly my first time here. My worse experience at the bar. "One Bartender" literally ignored my presence for a good hour while tending to everyone who just recently came up to the bar. Never get your drink here, it is better to get prefunk before cause it's horrible service . Overall one of the slowest I've been to and kills the mood. It's pretty obvious what kind of queer environment this is and is definitely not an inclusive one at-least at the bar. Employees need better training. Dancing and music was splendid! An ICONIC bar to say the absolute least. The setting of this bar is pristine- clean, modern, and all around great vibes here. Usually bar food is below average but not here. The chicken wings? Amazing. Mozzarella sticks- delicious. Not only was the bar food above my typical standards, the drinks are great. The staff is very knowledgeable and continually checked in to see if we needed anything. My partner and I went on drag queen karaoke night and it was the most fun and closest thing to normal I have experienced since the start of COVID. read more

Fun staff! We had an amazingly good time in here on our last trip to Seattle, and TRUST ME when I tell you that we are NOT what we consider "bar people" in general. The vegan dishes on the menu were surprisingly good, as well. (That's always a bonus, as most vegan food I've had pretty much tasted like dirty ass.) When I first heard Purr was closing, I was so bummed because I loved this particular location and I thought maybe a Gym or store would move into the space. I had no idea something even better would come--now, I love/d Purr, but it's so rare to find a Gay bar that is sleekly designed, spacious, inviting, and a little more "elevated" in terms of ambiance. Queer Bar reminds me of those in LA and Chicago aesthetically, yet without the pretension. It's far bigger and less claustrophobic vs. its predecessor, and in some ways, feels like an entirely new place. As I sat inside last night, I saw people arrive sharing the same amazement as I, surprised at how different everything looked. Often times when we get a new bar, it's just a name change but certainly not a change of experience. The servers were friendly, the food was good, and I even danced a bit--all on a Thursday night. The bathrooms are completely spotless, perhaps the most of any bar on the Hill (please keep it this way!). I have fond memories of the old Purr, and I will cherish them, in addition to also patronizing their new location--but I look forward to creating new ones here too. read more

Tonight my girlfriend and I decided to hit the bar scene since it was my last night here in Seattle. We went to check out Queer Bar after reading a few reviews. We're disappointed we did that. As soon as security checked my ID, I walked in towards the bar. My friend stopped to get my attention when a crazed employee ran up to me screaming to me there was a cover. I apologized, and said I didn't realize there was a cover and he sarcastically said that there was. I don't know where the attitude came from, but as a patron I didn't feel that attitude was necessary. My friend and I decided to leave just based on that interaction. As we were leaving the employee continue to make comments about us. Kindness and understanding goes a long way especially in the service industry. Train your employees to show empathy and maybe you can keep more customers coming through the door. read more

There's a bartender named Alice there who is such a fine individual that you question whether or not your friends are even real ya know? I can literally go have wine and read my book at this bar OR party. Depends on the night. If it's a Wednesday, wine + books. If it's a Thursday, party. If it's a Sunday, think on your sins. Okay I live in Portland and I love coming here because they often get big names of performers (Ru girls for example) which Portland doesn't get a lot of, and it's a cool experience to see those queens perform in such a small space. The bar staff are all nice and I always get a kick out of Kristie Champagne (one of the queens who hosts at Queer Bar). I've had nothing but good experiences here, the lines at the bar can be really long if it's during a sold out event and/or Friday and Saturday nights which are the busiest times to come but it's one of those places I would recommend showing up early to get a good seat. Never bothered with reserving booths/high top tables but if you show up for an event that was advertised originally with a link to buy tickets in advance and didn't purchase a ticket to, if there is any capacity left, just know you will most likely have to stand. I have watched this space go from an iconic gay bar (Purr) that supported and uplifted its community (daily, special events, and LGBT sport sponsorships) to a new platform that broadcasts the LGBTQ community to a broader audience. Tonight I approached the bar only to be redirected by a barback that "the drink line was *over there*" as REGULAR EMPLOYEES ATE FOOD & gossiped about their vegas vacation. The "bartender" Emma ignored patrons as she chatted with coworkers and also wore her LONG HAIR DOWN a strand of which was found in my drink but neither her, the barback or the interim "bar manager" cared to address or rectify. It is hard to not be discouraged by terrible customer service, exclusivity, and current isolative bar staff -- hopefully it can be fixed before PRIDE. read more

First night I went (a Sunday), I stood at the bar for about 5 minutes feeling ignored by the staff and left. Second time I went (a Friday), I went to the bar and was served a single Tito's and tonic for 9 dollars, which seems expensive for a single (although the bar tender was friendly). The decor is almost too sleek, like it was taken from an Abercrombie and Fitch ad. Lots of chrome, neon and mirrors, not much personality or warmth. The layout makes the space seem small, and they've closed the upstairs lounge. While I appreciate the effort to be an LGBT-safe space, it probably won't be my hangout of choice. read more

Here I have always felt welcomed by the staff and they host great shows and events. It's bright and open and one could even read a book there. Don't bother coming if you're a female. My situation is similar to another female's experience where I was treated like absolute shit by the males in the establishment. This review is a bit old, but it left me with such a bad taste in my mouth that I have to say something. I originally went for the Chamber of Commerce "State of the Hill" in Feb 2018 and had a great time. I went back a few times after and every. single. time. I was treated like a leper. I was there with a male and the difference was obvious. I was shoved, insulted, and picked on. I didn't feel unwelcome, I WAS unwelcome. I paid $10 to be treated like shit. The music was good, wasn't too packed for a Saturday as it died down within our first hour there. The bartender helping us out was nice and patient with our drink orders. Honestly I didn't know how to feel about this bar when it first opened because it replaced my favorite gay bar but it's seriously grown on me and become one of my favorite LGBTQ bars. It's a very mixed crowd with patrons from all across the LGBTQ spectrum. Great drag shows on the weekend and the best part is there is almost like a speakeasy upstairs. Just walk down the hallway like you are going to the bathroom and you'll find stairs to their super cool speakeasy lounge. Upstairs lounge is only open on the weekend. read more

Obviously some type of prejudice going on here. Came here last night with a friend and a few other people. My friend and I had two drinks each up till this point (over the course of two hours) and were fairly composed. We paid the $10 admission and went to one of the booths to sit and talk. My friend was a bit tired so she stayed sitting while I went on the dance floor for a few minutes. Came back and she had to go to the bathroom so I went with her. Security then approached me while I was waiting for her and told me she was too drunk to be at the bar and that we needed to leave. We had barely been there 15 minutes, hadn't had any drinks, and weren't causing any type trouble yet security told me she had "been eyeing my friend since we arrived and she was obviously too drunk". I wasn't going to argue so we left, led out by security. I have a feeling since we weren't buying drinks (even though we paid admission) and weren't as "fun" as some of the other people in there we were asked to leave. It's disappointing because I have been here before and have enjoyed the vibe/music, but we won't be coming back. read more

I went on a Friday for the RPDR viewing to support our hometown queen Bosco. I hadn't been to Queer Bar in years, thought I would give it another chance. My mistake. Drinks were fine, loved the big screen, crowd was basic. Whatever. But the staff.. First - all seats had "reserved" on them but nobody sitting in them and show was starting in a few minutes. I asked a staff member near the door if the seats were reserved for the viewing, for the drag show after, or both. I simply wanted to see if they were available. The response? "Sweetie, can't you read?". Yikes. No need to be rude or sassy when a paying patron is simply asking a question at a bar they are new to. Huge turn off but I shrugged it off. Then the bartender who was the rudest bartender I have ever encountered. There was no line to the bar or rowdy people, yet this bartender had an attitude and was rude for no reason. She kept asking for my last name because she couldn't locate my card when I wanted to close out. I kept trying to help out and offered to show my ID so she could locate my credit card and she snapped at me for no reason. I wasn't yelling or drunk, just trying to be helpful. I will not describe the bartender out of respect, or even detail the specific interaction besides saying it was rude, but damn I would fire her in a heartbeat with that attitude. I told my friend about it, who was with me, and she said that particular bartender is always rude and angry. Constructive feedback to management: hire and train friendly staff. I get it, being a bartender can be rough. Been there. But there is absolutely no need to be rude and aggressive to patrons when there is no issue beyond not being able to locate a credit card after looking for it twice. Not a very pleasant experience. Which is sad because they host amazing drag performers. Maybe they should consider a rebrand to "Rude Bar" since they don't even bring in a queer crowd. In all seriousness though: I hope management sees comments like this and uses it in constructive ways. I want to believe in this bar but it has been disappointing. read more

My first night going Queer Bar was on Halloween 2018. The security up front is the one who checks IDs to come into the bar. Very rude and not very friendly, makes you kind of not want to go into the bar. Once you walk in this bar has an interesting set up and is very small and crowded. When you walk up to the bar, be ready for the bartenders to ignore you for some time and help their friends out first before you even though you have been waiting there for awhile. Once the bartenders get to you, they are friendly. After I got my drink with my fiancé and one of our friends, we were waiting for the drag show to start. Very hard to see the stage, but they have screens above the bar and near the entrance of the bar so you can see. It is cool concept but I really come to drag shows to be able to see them in person perform not on a screen. During the show there were two men behind me calling me a derogatory hate slander and started pulling on my hair and making me feel very uncomfortable. My fiancé and friend went to the bar and told them what was going on. They immediately went to their manager to let him know about these men who were harassing me. When I walked away from the men I went to the entrance and told the security guard to the club what was going on and she said it wasn't her problem. After awhile the manager found me and apologized for the guys behavior and said if they were to come back he would ban them from the club. Overall the design of the club is a little weird and not very spacious, the drinks are over priced as any club would be, their beer on tap is reasonable. The main reason I rated three stars is due to their manager who shows pride in wanting to keep his places know as a welcome community and that his club strives for no slander and hate speech/ safe space for LGBTQIAPK +. read more

I went with my boyfriend and he ordered a beer. I was hesitant about what to order at first, so I asked and got a $6 beer over a $10 wine. Then when my boyfriend already had his beer, I looked over and saw my beer sitting at the bar for almost 5 min before receiving it. The server was behind the bar at the time too but then wandered off to check other tables and socialize before dropping off my drink. Queer/Bar is changing the scene of Capitol Hill LGBTQ+ nightlife! When Purr relocated I just knew another bar that didn't cater to the community of Capitol Hill was destined to replace it as it had a prime location. Luckily Joey brought Queer/Bar to the Pike/Pine corridor and has stepped up the game for all other bars located on the Hill. The drag show MX is beyond amazing and they even had a drag king by the name of Sean Nyte perform a few weeks ago. I've lived in Seattle for 5 years and have never once seen a drag king brought into an established drag show. The bar staff is kind and the cocktails are strong. I came to this bar with a friend who was somewhat familiar with the area. It had an interesting outside and decor so I thought we would check it out. It seemed like a trendy new bar with a colorful clientele. It had an odd bar set-up where the line for the bar was single-file. I politely asked another patron (dressed in a drag-costume made of sponges and cleaning supplies) if this was the correct procedure for ordering drinks. He shook his head "yes" without making eye-contact. This was a perfect pre-cursor to the energy for the entire bar. After we ordered our drinks, my friend and I couldn't exactly figure out where to stand with our drinks, it didn't seem clear where we were supposed to go. After a few minutes, we both agreed that we absolutely hated this bar. I've never felt so unwelcome at a bar, particularly a gay bar. read more

I went out with a couple friends on Saturday, we decided to get food here. The nachos we excellent best I've had in Seattle. On the other hand the service was terrible. Our server disappeared for 30 minutes at a time. When it came time to cash out he had to go find him and take our cards to him, after that he disappeared again. Shocked when we turned to our left to se him sitting at a table socializing my friend went to confront him. He then asked if it was all together or separate (we handed him 3 cards) finally he returned our cards and offered the group a round of drinks. 2/3 of us received them before he disappeared yet again. Lastly, after checking my credit card statement it seems as if the server wasn't satisfied with the tip I left for the worst service I've ever experienced so he took it upon himself to inflate it a bit. read more

Such a cute little gay bar. They've got a small dance stage, some very talented Queens, a very friendly staff, and awesome screen viewing. When I went they played Ru Paul's Drag race, but I've gone by and seen LGBT movies too. They even have vegan food. Everyone is super duper nice too. No one is on their high horse or anything. I like the ambiance of this place - very nice. (Sad to see Purr leave). But 50% off food during HH that is great. But the food selection for Vegans at a vegetarian restaurant is lacking. I was disappointed to find about 3 options could be 'made' vegan - the server had to keep checking with the kitchen (he was very nice and accommodating though). I came to visit Seattle, from LA. It was recommended that I go to the queer bar, one of the nights that I was there. My friends and I went on a Friday night, which was a karaoke night. We had SO much fun. The drinks were HEAVILY poured and good. Rah was our server, and he was so sweet and so fun!
