Been coming here for years, pretty much the go-to spot for authentic spicy Beef and Tendon noodles. Stewed and herbal-y without that overwhelming spice and flavor that a lot of these new transplant Chinese restaurants are doing. Don't get me wrong it is plenty spicy, but not mala or chili oil. Don't expect great service, don't order anything else. Just get the Beef and Tendon noodles, some Boba next door and bring it home to eat. Especially if you're white, please set your expectations to that of a last century asian establishment (meaning very bad service lol). Random story since I have your attention. Once I saw these two people flirting in here. Guy kept turning his head to the girl at the counter, she was smiling and rosy-cheeked glancing back at him. Some movie type stuff like uhh the Zooey Deschanel movie. 500 days of summer. Anyways, guy finally picks up the courage to speak to her. Turns out she's deaf/mute or something and starts signing back at him. The balding asshole immediately shakes his head says sorry and turns away! Lol. She was out of his league anyways. There's not many places in the Bay Area that know how to make Schezuan Beef Noodle Soup right, but Queen House is one of them. The beef is marinated overnight and the flavor really shines through on each bite. The yellow noodles are nice and thick with a good bite and the soup has just the right amount of spice. The only thing preventing this from being the perfect soup, is that sometimes the beef tendon pieces can be too tough to eat. If you're lucky the chef will give you a scoop of tendons that's incredibly tender, but it seems it's just the luck of draw. We often pair the soup with some of our delicious favorites which include their green onion pancake, garlic sauce broccoli and steamed pork dumplings with cabbage and leek. I go for the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and it's not too spicy (I love spice but I went with others who have a lower tolerance and they said the same thing). Been here multiple times, and the first time I didn't remember it being that amazing. However, this second time it was so much better. The highlights were the bean curd with chicken and the pig intestine. Also really enjoyed the spicy beef noodle soup. The bean curd was just so simple and had this really wholesome flavor. Like you wanted to just take a big scoop and put it over your rice and scarf it down. The pig intestine also didn't really have a stink and I loved the fermented veggies in it. The soup could've been spicier, the meat quality was great though. Also got the oyster pancake, oyster noodles, and 3 cup tofu. We ask for 2 boxes and they bring one. Spicy Beef noodle soup with tendon. $11 -3.9 star- Very spicy. Meat is tender but store brought noodles does not tasted good compare to other homemade ones. Shrimp fried rice $11 - 3.1 star- cheap frozen vegetable that is not cook through. Peas are hard. Shrimps are big but rice is very oily. Only slightly better than Panda Express. Today's experience at this restaurant was very poor. The cabbage in the vegetable beef dish was bitter, and the tall female server didn't even offer an apology or ask if we wanted to order another dish. She just walked away to attend to something else. I have to call her back to order another dish。she initially said a male colleague would take the milk tea order, but then she forgot about it altogether. After waiting for over twenty minutes, we had to remind her to take our order, and even then, she brought the wrong item--a large instead of a small cup of milk tea. The check was handled by, presumably, the owner, who apologized after we brought up the issues. It was truly a very poor experience! One star for the chicken pot taste not bad. read more

Got takeout for the Sichuan Beef Noodle Soup yesterday and I only have wonderful things to say! I have been a Tea Era regular since 2014, it is my favorite boba shop in the Bay for such a good price. I finally got the courage to try Queen House on Christmas Day since nothing else was open in downtown Mountain View. The service was amazing and the lady who took my order was very kind and prompt. They were extremely generous with the beef itself - it was delicious and tender! Perfectly done. The broth was 100% authentic. Which is the biggest plus. You know the broth is legit when it jellos up in the refrigerator after a while. I was able to stretch the soup for about 2.5 meals :) The noodles were fresh and well done too. Just how my grandmother used to make. The only downside is that there was a lot of fat leftover but I think that just made the beef itself softer / more tender. Loved it! I love Taiwanese food so I was very excited to try this place and the pictures of their food looked sooo good, but as they say, looks can be deceiving. My friend and I ordered the beef stew because our eyes were bigger than our stomach lol. The taste was mediocre and it was filled with way too much oil. It did have a lot of meat though which I was very grateful for. I couldn't finish everything because of that. My other friend ordered the deep fried pork chop and thought it was mediocre as well. I've had the regular beef, the beef tendon soup (recommended!), and I've tried the curry noodle soup as well. All of them are top notch. Came here with a friend to dine outside on a Friday evening around 7:30. The servers were incredibly rushed and didn't look like they were taking good precautions with COVID-19 safety - one of the workers was wearing gloves but I noticed as I was standing in line that he never changed his gloves or sanitize them in between handling cash and serving food. Great, protecting yourself but not the customer Service was quite slow as well, I ordered the szechuan beef noodle soup which took over 30 minutes for them to prepare. When they finally brought out the order, they didn't give me a bowl because they said it was extra, but when I said that they never brought that up when I laid, they gave me one for free. I specifically asked for less chili oil and they gave me an EXTRA thing of chili oil - my friend asked for no cabbage in his noodles and he spent most of dinner picking out cabbage from his dish. Overall the flavor of the soup was good, but the noodles were very average and got kinda soft sitting in the broth. The beef was WAY too fatty for my tastes as well - I probably only got like two or three bites of actual beef. I hate to give a restaurant a bad review during COVID-19 because it's a tough time for them, but I do feel like because the staff is so rushed, I would rather eat at one of the many other local restaurants on Castro. read more

I've passed by this restaurant MANY times and stopped by Tea Era more times than I'm going to admit on Yelp. My colleagues and I finally stopped by, on a cold winter day, for some beef noodle soup. There's so many dishes on the menu, it's pretty impossible for someone not to find something to eat. But we were here with a mission: beef noodle soup. And a tofu dish for my vegetarian buddy. We also ordered black bean noodles to share. Let me tell you, we didn't finish any of our dishes because there were just so much food! And for a good price too. We got our beef noodle soup mild but man it was pretty spicy for me (and I like spicy!). It made my nose runny and made me think I was getting sick (but cleared up right after). I would recommend getting the beef noodle soup to clear up all the congestion you might have. We looked around the restaurant as we were eating and realized we didn't have an original idea. Everyone was here for beef noodle soup. So you KNOW its good. We also ordered takeout and the food was ready for us when we were ready to leave. As for the food, I'd give them two stars, but portion and service is good and I've been here before for lunch and they were great. Just, uh, not this time. beef tendon noodles - the soup is pleasant and the tendon was nice but the noodles were package udon. There's a lot of noodle competition here. This disappointed me a bit. basil bacon fried rice - was super generous portion but I saved this for the next day and after eating it in the morning, my stomach was churning all day. It's been 12 hours later and I can still taste it in the pit of my stomach. Fried rice shouldn't do that. popcorn chicken - by the time it got to me, it was kinda - I have doubts it was ever quite crunchy. It was a bit of a mess. All in all the portions are great - and I've had tasty dishes here - so I know this place is good, but this was a spot of bad luck in what I ordered. I'd give the food (this time) two stars. This review is purely for the old lady server (which I see some people have referenced her before) . The whole time she had a biggest stank face. She ignored us when we were standing to wait for a table. When the food came out, she slammed our food onto our table without saying anything. When getting the check from her, the bill was thrown into my hand without a single word at all as she just walked away. I clearly remember not tipping due to the worst service I have ever received in my life. When I checked my bank account the next day, it was obvious that she had tipped herself. I see a past review that mentioned the same thing about her. She is committing fraud and I just can't understand how someone could be so bad as a person. Unfortunately, they only sell fantuan on the weekend. They don't have that many Taiwanese street food style dishes, but there was still enough that enjoyed the meal very much. *Oyster Vermicelli - This was on the salty side, but always enjoyable to eat this. *Oyster Omelette - This was not very well done here. The gelatinous part was too thick and there wasn't very many oysters. *Pork and Tofu - One of the favorites of the group. They stir-fried this really well. *Three Cup Tofu - I was excited to order this because this restaurant in Flushing, NY has this amazing three cup tofu dish. i was disappointed with the one here. The tofu isn't fried until crispy and the flavor wasn't as good *Pork Intestines and Pickled Mustard - I'm so glad everyone in my group likes intestines. They only serve the beef pancake for "dim sum" on weekends. Regrettably, I must share a negative experience about this place. The treatment we received was far from satisfactory. We were made to feel like a burden, and the staff's attitude was consistently curt and dismissive.  We came in as a family, with two adults and four kids. My son has autism, so finding him food is harder, but I try to make it work by ordering different things. I have never returned something my son did not like. I ordered it, so I keep it.  My friend ordered soup; I thought they had orange chicken, and she snapped at me, telling me they didn't. I said okay and ordered another chicken box and something for myself. The lady brought the food but nothing for me. I was waiting for my food for a while, then I finally asked her, and again she snapped, stating what I asked for they didn't have. So, if that's the case, then it's miscommunication; why not ask what I am ordering? I didn't want to order and get the food when we were almost done eating, and my friend reminded me that we had lots of food. My son did not eat the food we got for him, but he loved my friend's soup meat. I asked if I could only order the beef, and she again snapped, saying no, they don't do that. So I tried ordering the soup, but the worker seemed so annoyed with me that my friend told me to forget it and we would go somewhere else afterward. The soup was tasty though! read more

Noodle soups all under 10$ with large portions of meat. No fast food restaurant does this because profit margins are lower; especially in high rent area like Castro st. Signature item Taiwanese noodle soups. Home style cooking ; not super salty like Liangs or some of the other places where food quality is not so good. Most people go for the beef noodle soup variations which include shank to tendon. Not Americanized. This place has the best veggie noodle soup in the area. Broth is light with taste of napa cabbage, dried shiitake and bamboo. One flavor doesn't dominate the broth. Not salty or msg flavored. Hand pulled noodles. Complement with a side of fried tofu; enough for 2 people. Homemade broths and time refined recipes. Owner is hands on. Tofu not on the menu for lunch ask for it separately; crunchy/salty/melt in mouth inside good complement to veggie noodle soup. Fantastic combo. Nothing better. read more

I'm updating my review from 12 years ago. The food definitely tastes better now, and I've been ordering from this restaurant frequently. Some of my favorite dishes include: popcorn chicken, tofu with pork, green string beans, beef chowfun, spicy wontons, pork belly buns, and pork belly with rice bento set. The restaurant is quite small inside but they do offer outdoor seating. I do find some of the dishes a little bit more oily. Just make sure to mention use "less oil" when ordering. read more

The combination fried rice was just ok. Eating outside, a customers dog barked every minute. Asked the wait staff to either ask the owner to silence the dog or ask him to leave. They did neither. FOOD: The menu includes a variety of foods including dry & wet noodles, beef, pork, chicken dishes and dumplings. They have typical items you would find at a Taiwanese cafe. The noddles they included were the thicken egg noodles and the soup was a little too greasy for my liking, but it's expected for this type of noodle soup. My Bf got pork over rice, which was a pretty large portion that included salt and peppered deep fried pork chop, rice, minced meat and broccoli. Pretty big portions and will definitely fill you up! They are located right next to Tea Era - a milk tea shop. They actually provide you with the menu for milk tea here and they bring you your milk tea which is great! AMBIANCE: Very old school cafe like style with seats that seat 2-8 people. Although, I don't really recommend larger partie because you would have to wait for people to leave in order to combine tables together for larger parties. SERVICE: Quick, efficient and friendly. I've eaten here a few times over the past 20 years, but I think the lunch I had today was the best I've had. I think the reason might be that I've had takeout mostly in the past few years -- the store itself is kind of dark, dingy and crowded. Today, I ate outside where they have a few tables outside their store because of COVID. I think the combination of fresh food and outdoor seating made me appreciate the food even more. We got the beef and tendon noodle soup, oyster pancake, egg pan roll with donut and warm sweet soy milk. Every dish was excellent! Small, unassuming shop serving Taiwanese style food on Castro Street in downtown MTV. I came by here during lunch on a weekday and got one of their bentos. The portions were definitely generous, as I could barely finish half of my bento. I got the braised pork bento, which was served with a meat ball soup and some veggies. The braised pork and rice were super flavorful, and the meat balls in the meat ball soup had a pork filling in the middle, which was quite yummy. My fiance got a popcorn chicken bento. The popcorn chicken was crispy and well-flavored. We both really enjoyed our food, and definitely felt like the portions were well worth the price. read more
