I'm visiting my brother in San Diego for a week with my dog and staying in his apartment on 13th street. I discovered Quartyard on my first day here and I have been here every single day since! Quartyard is VERY dog friendly with tons of patio seating available. The venue is open-air but plenty of covered areas for shade. There are shipping containers converted into a food truck, bar, and coffee stand. You can walk up to any window and place your food order. There is also a dog run in one corner. I come during lunch and the evening time and there is at least one other dog here. The evenings are my dog's favorite because everyone brings their dog after work and they all run around and tire each other out. If your dog is skiddish and shy, it's best to come earlier. Surprisingly, the dog run is very CLEAN and doesn't stink considering the number of dogs that pass through. There is a security guard on duty who makes sure that all dogs are playing nicely or else they get booted. I also saw a giant Jenga set and some corn hole tosses set up to hang out with friends. Some posters were hung around the venue announcing live music shows later in the week. If I hadn't discovered this venue, I would have had a hell of a time keeping my dog entertained for my weeklong stay in San Diego. read more

We came here today for Bruce's birthday and I definitely willl be back with friends. We came for brunch. Brunch menu is limited but they have a pretty good selection. I give this place 3 stars because I love the concept. It's cute and modern. Great beer selection and great overall environment. Unfortunately a few friends and I have had a few bad experiences with this specific bartender. The first time I came in I was really excited. I showed my ID and got a beer. Later A friend and I asked this bartender if I could try a beer. She asked for my id again and I said sure. I showed her & she gave my friend the sample and ignored me. I reminded her that I wanted to try the same one and she ignored me again. She gave my friend the beer and my friend again asked for my sample. She put her hand in my friends face and said "I'm helping someone" with lots of attitude. My friends and I gasped! Who puts their hand in someone's face? I held onto their review for a while. But I recently heard she is still giving bad service. My friend recently went there and asked for a beer. She told him the beer was at the other bar and he should walk over there. He said never mind and said "I'll just get another beer". She rolled her eyes and said "why don't you just walk there? It's not that far." Um RUDE!!!! I hope she gets fired. The food options are plenty and the constantly change, which is nice. There's ample seating, some games, and room to mingle about. Hit the big bar canister for drinks, the S&M Sausage and Meat box for some great sausages and 'party' food. Yelp held the kickoff party and lanyard pickup here for the recent Yelp Spring Break and I thought the space was a really solid use of a parking lot (or empty event space). Great neighborhood, plenty of people, housing, and fun around so lots and lots of foot traffic... Well done!! read more

OMG beer and a dog park. Whhhaaaat? I just cannot grasp that the city of San Diego let Quartyard take over a crappy parking lot and transform it into a cool usable groovy space that serves beer and liquor and accepts credit cards. This is something I never thought I would ever see in our fair city. But I'm glad that I have. I love where I live but this type of business and ones like Stella Public House and Halcyon make me want to pack up and move to East Village. In the San Jose del Cabo marina they have a restaurant that is a shipping container and I was so impressed with the concept at the time. i FINALLY made it here.. wanted to go to the grand opening...couldn't wanted to go for a post yelp elite event....couldn't Memorial day 2015..heading back home from Rosarito...wanted to grab dinner for the kids, so we didn't have to cook when we got home...tried a couple other south bay spots, which were all closed. Interesting venue in San Diego's East Village. Cool place to hangout with friends and have a drink or two or three..... You're also hungry? They have 3 different food trucks on site every day, but the rotation changes daily. Check their website to see who is there. S&M Sausage and Meat has a spot at Quartyard, but I have yet to try them. Probably the most interesting part of this venue is that they have a dog park! Very nice to have for dog lovers out there! It's a great space but the last several times I've attempted to go, they are always having private/special events that are closed to general public. The last time, I called to confirm they would be open and was told a private event would be over at 4pm. When I arrived shortly after 4, I was told the event went over and we still weren't allowed to enter. read more

SD has been in need of a place like this! If you're familiar with the StEat Food Park in SoMa up in SF, Quartyard has a similar feel to it, though it doesn't have anywhere near the same amount of food trucks! The entire place is made out of shipping containers, with a ton of benches all around. You've got S&M, Meshuggah and the main bar, along with a couple food trucks (which they rotate) to choose from. The bar does have a pretty good HH special on all their foods (50% off) and drinks. Just come before 6pm and you'll be a-okay! They make some decent paninis and the salads aren't too shabby either. There is a dog park here as well so bring your doggie along so they can socialize with other dogs while you sip away on your drink and get your grub on! read more

This is by far the best place to have opened in the East Village since I've lived here. If you're a dog owner living in this area this place is a Godsend. There's a play area for your dog to interact with other pooches, as well as rotating food trucks, a coffee bar, and an alcohol bar (of course). I see no reason I won't be going here everyday with my perpetual energy machine that's my dog after work to have him run around and play with other dogs. Absolutely awesome place! read more

"Puppy! Puppy! Puppy! PUPPY!" Last Saturday, after a few quarts -- I mean, beers -- we were all giving shout outs to the many pets we watched pass through here. The Quartyard is what San Diego has sorely been missing -- essentially an outdoor beer garden, that even has an adjacent dog park! They turned the empty parking lot behind Grocery Outlet into something truly fun and neighborhood friendly. I'm just so glad that it is located downtown so I can walk to and from it. There is a main bar that serves lots of craft beers on draft and cans and drinks are around $6. As a bonus, you'll find food trucks there (there were three when we were there) and plenty of outdoor tables/seats. As another food option, you can get a sausage or brat at S&M Sausage and Meat which has a permanent outpost on site. It doesn't get better than this! read more

I can't quite get to 5 stars yet since I haven't tried out the dog park part of this venue. S&M and Messhugah Shack are both familiar to me so I have no complaints there. If you are a foodie for food trucks, they do rotate the ones that come here. I will have to do more visits to give a true evaluation of it's worthiness of the fifth star. Besides the availability of food, drink and dog park, the area surrounding it is a parking area so makes it easier (but you have to pay for the day not only for several hours). Oh yes there is a stage area for possibly when they have events. Overall, I will try to visit again, but I am not in downtown Gaslamp or East Village much so I don't know when the return will be. I will update as soon as I figure this place out more. Kudos for some picnic tables since no one wants to be standing all day drinking and eating. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place!!!! Perfect local area, perfect chill spot, all ages friendly!! It's the perfect spot to just hangout and chill! Once you walk in they have a cute coffee shop to the left, and let me tell you... The coffee and drinks are bomb! I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but if I gotta compare, I'd say it was even better than Better Buzz coffee. They also have food trucks and food stand behind the stage where you can order food which is very convenient. The stage is set on the left hand side where some nights they'll have live performances as well as well known DJ's perform. They have plenty of tables and benches around, and bar in the back which tends to get a little crowded, but is perfect for the setting. They also have a few fun games around the area such as the huge blocks for jenga and corn hole. Very family friendly because the kids are also able to play. I had my Dog's 5th birthday party here because loves this place! The dog park in the back is where the party's at!! For the most part, all the dogs get along. There's no separation for big dogs or small dogs, so it can get a little crazy in there. But....the cool thing is, you can bring your drinks, beer, food in there as well while you watch your dog. You meet plenty of Dog lovers, and it's just a great way to socialize with everyone else. Did I mention how much I love this place?!!! Parking is blah, which is the only thing that sucks. They have a parking lot next door, but that always seems to get full especially when there's a Padre game going on. Street parking is mainly available around the area which is also sparse during nightlife activities or especially during the weekend. But FYI street parking is also free on Sunday's! I will always make it a goal to take my dog here at least once a week. This is the only dog park where I can feel completely relaxed and have fun at. This is the place to be!!! Came here for a food event. I didn't know what to expect or how the set up would be. Parking is scarce in the area, unless you get really lucky. It was free during the time we came (Sat night), and we were lucky enough to park within 2 blocks. The area is a little shady, so be mindful of your pathways! The food event I went to had several booths, a stage, a bar, a wide area with picnic tables and bathrooms. I felt a little claustrophobic. Perhaps it's because I felt there was just too many people around. The line for the booths really made the event seem super busy and small. It was hard to tell what the actual event space looked like with so many things to see and hear. The DJ was blaring and people were dancing. Everyone seemed like they were having a good time. I did feel safe with security around; it was when we were leaving when it got kinda sketchy! read more

I had a great time at the Quartyard! I was just there for the first time for the Foodquart event put on by LOCALE Magazine. What a great event and awesome venue! I love that it's an open space, but at the same time it's still a smaller venue. It's like a mini Waterfront Park. I'm so glad it's pet friendly, next time I'm bringing my dog, I'm sure she would love it! I think it's awesome that they have the S&M food truck; I LOVE their food! There is also a bar with a variety of beers on tap so yay for that. For this particular event, they had about 20 or so food vendors sampling their food. There was enough sitting space as well as room to walk around the venue. Once again, the venue was just perfect for the event! I will definitely have to come back with my pup and some friends. With all of the hype built up around this place over the last year, I guess I was just expecting something more exceptional. I had envisioned something like what they did in Hayes Valley in San Francisco. There they have lots of green space, and beautiful shops built out of shipping containers (one is even muli-story!). That being said, perhaps my lower star rating is just a simple case of having my expectations set way too high. My husband pointed out that the Quartyard looks more like a temporary set up than a permanent neighborhood fixture. It has the look and feel of a tailgate party. As a passerby, it looks almost like a private event area, and one might assume it is not for public entry. I like the design of the plaza that is going up around Stella Public House much better. The bar had a nice selection of reasonably priced local beers, as did the Sausage&Meat kiosk. Well done on that front! There was also a coffee kiosk and several food trucks. I guess it just seems weird to me, that in a city with beautiful parks and beaches, that we would all gather on blacktop to eat and drink beer. read more

This place is in need of more food trucks and or smaller food carts, on a daily basis. If you are expecting a Portland like Cartlandia or Food Truck space extravaganza-like experience, you will be disappointed. Having said that, the Quartyard does make for a nice time out in the East Village. The area is spacious. The bar truck is great, and the permanent sausage place puts out some great dogs! I understand they have a great happy hour too, that's a plus. There are some cornhole games available for your competitive (ha) enjoyment. I was very impressed with the stage, it's good size and it looks like a permanent fixture. I look forward to attending a concert here. My husband and I went on a Sunday afternoon, our visit was pleasant. There were some enjoying the dog space with their pets, which I am quite sure having this option, for many San Diego residents, is a big plus. Such a cool idea! Great execution in terms of number of tables, games, and size of the dog park, especially for being in the middle of the city. However, we were admittedly underwhelmed. Maybe we just had incredibly high expectations, but we were expecting many different choices for beers, 4 or 5 food trucks, and live music. They didn't have many beers (only one stout, sad face), two food trucks, and a seriously empty stage (on a Saturday!). BUT we will definitely try this place again. We're thinking maybe it's just still in its growth stage, and they'll expand/ get more beer/ food/ book more music, even if it's just the little local bands. Cool place to check out. read more

What is this place - a dog park? Restaurants? Coffee Shop? Beer Garden? Concert? Yes all that and more built on an old parking lot created out of old shipping containers. What a great addition to the East Village and If you are in SD it's a must to come here for a drink. They close at midnight on the weekend and 10:00 during the week. There are also a number of food trucks and events happening though out the month. You enter near the coffee shop at the main entrance and then into a large open area with 10 long picnic tables, free games, a music stage to the left with Sausage & Meat (a craft beer and hot dog restaurant created from the owners of Slater 50/50) and to the right the Quartyard shipping container with bar/restaurant serving craft beer, cocktails, sandwiches and salads. I tried: S&M - The regular dog which was large and the bun was more than filling, diced onion, and 6 different types of mustard to try. Very good and good value with an IPA for $12. Quartyard container - The chopped salad and the turkey bacon panini both are a good choice. The Margarita on draft was definitely the best margarita I've ever tasted. They are so refreshing and don't contain the heavy syrupy sugar like other margaritas and can you easily get caught up drinking a lot of these. Ask the owner and he'll tell you his recipe to make at home. Dog park - This is the only dog park in the immediate area and such a great addition for all the pet friendly apartment and condo buildings near. Nice place to bring your dog, have a drink and talk to your neighbors. Where else can you go to a dog park that has a bar! This is a place where everyone is having a great time; drinking, eating, sitting outside with their dogs, playing games, making new friends, and just enjoying the beautiful SD skyline and weather. read more

Very cool dog park. You aren't required to buy anything which is nice. But if you do get a drink you can take it into the dog yard if you want. It's nice to let the dog off the leash and interact with others. Everyone that goes is really friendly, and some are regulars so people kind of become friends and so do the dogs. Very chill. Also, different food trucks stop by every day so different food is a cool surprise. read more

This is definitely my new favorite outdoor bar/restaurant/event location in downtown SD thanks to @sdchamber for hosting an event there. They serve beer, wine, liquor and have some food. There is also a coffee shop in a large metal storage container right outside for those early morning uppers. Mack was really helpful and friendly in the bar and she will definitely bring me back in there soon. Great, fun staff and excited to stay up to date on their calendar. Vario productions also takes care of the A/V (Audio/Visual) so the stage and sound was on point tonight for the event. Definitely recommend for a great pit spot before a Padres game or just cruising through downtown any night of the week. read more

FANTASTIC CONCEPT! Enclosed dog park, food trucks and booze! No brainer! We brought the pups here last night so that they could have a play date with other fur-children. The dog park area is well enclosed and covered with astro turf. It's a decent size but would be even better if they could expand it out a bit more to give the pups a little more space to run around. However, all the dog owners last night were super chill and kept a good eye out on their pups. We did end up grabbing a few beers to sip on (the pups can't have all the fun!) and ended up paying $13 for two beers. Not cheap but totally convenient. All in all, we'll definitely be taking advantage of this spot when the weather gets warm again--especially for the food trucks! read more

With an average temperature of 71 degrees year round, San Diego is all about being outdoors. Quartyard, an outside bar and entertainment venue spanning a block of Market St, fits this city perfectly. Surrounded by shipping containers fabricated into various businesses, the center of Quartyard is entirely open with tables, chairs and games. The bar sits in the very back and has tons of choices. With a draft list of 20 craft beers (many rare and not the generic ones you see everywhere) and specialty cocktails, there is something for everyone. Playing corn hole or life size jenga while drinking them makes the experience that much better! While I didn't try it, they also offer food from an outpost of S&M Sausage and Meat (many of their sausages are from wild game) and food trucks. The really cool thing about this being a venue as opposed to a restaurant is you can also bring your own food in. It was my friend's birthday and we brought an entire cake, no questions asked. In addition, Quartyard contains a dog park and the entire venue is dog friendly. There was an adorable golden retriever puppy running around last time I was there that I contemplated stealing, but I figured it wouldn't be appropriate. Quartyard also says they plan on hosting many local events and concerts in the future. I look forward to seeing how this place evolves! Went here yesterday evening for the grand opening of Day MVS fngrs crssd music event and I loved it ! For those of you who don't know what Day MVS Fngrs Crssd is...... they are an upcoming company that brings all the great house music artists to San Diego and hosts awesome events at Bang Bang (club in downtown) and other venues. Tickets for the event starts at $10 plus service fees online, and gradually raises to about $25 plus service fees over time. Which I personally, think is a great price!!! The venue itself looks pretty small at first, but it sure can hold a lot of people! There is also a parking lot right next door that costs only $10. But the parking pay machine is retarded. It ate my $5 and would freeze every time I tried to use a credit card, we tried three different cards and had no luck. While some others were able to process through it. Upon walking in, there is a tiny dirt area, but after that it's all cement. The security here is quite lenient and was a very easy process getting in. There are a few table benches here and there but too many. There are a few food vendors such as S&M Sausage Meat Company, a taco stand, a pizza stand, and beer. But it might change depending on what day and what event. They have a small dog area which is cool but unfortunately it is fake grass. But yes, dogs are welcome to music events as well! I think it's really awesome that they built this section out of metal storage containers and even put a stage in the middle. The stage is pretty big and has some nice lighting. Overall, the crowds are good looking young people and tons of great vibes all around! We had lots of fun here. Great music and lots of dancing! P.S. First off let me just say that San Diego is such a beautiful city. This was my first time is SD. My cousin and I were staying in the "GasLamp" area of SD for a wedding and the hotel we were staying in was in the heart of everything: from food, to beach, to drinks! The QUARTYARD was recommended by another cousin and it so happened that the wedding (we were attending) rehearsal dinner was taking place there. We didn't get to attend that part, but we joined the bridal party later in the evening for drinks. WOW! This place is beautiful! Outdoor seating (perfect for the warm SD nights), the strings of lights, the little doggy park area; it was overall a place where I didn't feel like a tourist. It just felt like walking into your favorite hometown bar. Smiling faces from both the staff and the lil puppies! Unfortunately, I can't comment on prices of drinks, but I can say the selections and promptness of getting your drinks is excellent! I would definitely try and make it back here everytime I end up in San Diego! read more
