Motormania - A classic old school shop!

I've had a challenging issue with my air conditioning (which is a thing that's known to go wrong in my car) and they've been great at communicating with me how they're trying to diagnose it and trying different fixes. It's an old-style, no frills kind of shop. I appreciate that they know cars and get the job done. Their prices are fantastic, and they're always transparent with their pricing, offering options for lower cost when available. Recently, I took my car to the dealership to see if they could do a better job chasing my AC issue, and they let me know I had an oil leak that would cost $1200 to fix. Being the skeptical sort, I took it to Motormania and let them know exactly what the dealership said was wrong. Motorman let me know there was no current oil leak, that the oil leak the dealership had showed me was dried oil from a previous issue, and that my car was functioning perfectly. I trusted them before, but I obviously trust them even more now. Basically, I can't say enough good about the folks at Motormania and I will always take my VW there.

So I'd never know unless someone tells me. So again, grateful. I pulled into my garage, Lamb's Tire. I knew they were closing in about 20 minutes. I wasn't expecting anything. But I wanted to see if they could give me new bulbs for my break lights first thing in the morning. They said they could do it. And I was happy that they could accommodate. Came in the next morning, took them about an hour to do my break lights. When I got to work, I backed into a parking spot so I could see the reflection of all 3 break lights. They look great and shiny, and new. Should hold me over for a couple more years. I think it was like $120.

My car broke down…read morewhile I was traveling through the Austin area, and I managed to get it to their shop with my hazard lights on. From the moment I pulled in, they could tell I was in a difficult situation and immediately showed genuine concern and compassion. They quickly diagnosed the problem, explained what was going on, and took incredible care of both me and my car. Being from out of town and needing to get back home made an already stressful situation even harder, but they went above and beyond to help me through it. What stood out most wasn't just the quality of the service--it was the people. They were kind, compassionate, honest, and genuinely cared about making sure I was taken care of. I felt the pricing was great, the value was excellent, and I never felt like I was just another customer or another repair. It's rare to encounter this level of customer service and genuine human kindness, especially when you're stranded somewhere away from home. I am incredibly grateful that this is the shop I ended up at that day. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone.

Tuffy Tire & Auto Service - $435 money grab

They told me I needed new tires and I went to Costco, bought tires, and they wouldn't put them on because they said I didn't need them! Then, Tuffy told me I had an oil gasket leak (quoted me $435), I took it down the road to Auto Spec and they took me under the car- no leak at all. It's funny because now the website and phone lines are down.. I think this place needed a money grab to stay in business. Stay away if they ever come back open. Take your business to Austin's Auto Spec

Be careful, the philip, the guy at the reception can overcharge you. If you get an estimate from…read morethem please make sure that you are taking some time to do research and ask for estimates from other auto repair shops. In my case I was charged at least more than $300 than the official Toyota. Moreover, I was charged for materials that I provided and I should be charged only for labor. Also they added a ridiculous surcharge for "shopping" for the required parts. But unfortunately I found everything out when the work was done. So please don't believe them. Philip agreed to refund $220(that's why 2 stars review instead of 1)for overcharge and mistake charge for material that I brought. But I still believe that at the official Toyota in general I would pay much less than at tuffy. I also brought their ad voucher for a 10% discount for any work that was over $300" but he refused to provide the discount, it's about $150 that I could get for my ~ $1500 bill with them. As Steve Jobs used to say: " One more thing" - when I told Toyota about my car and what was done - they told me that most likely I don't need half of replacements that was done by a tuffy. So probably I lose even more money than I think. Bottom line: BE CAREFUL and take your time to make sure that you will not be overcharged and make sure that you really need the work that they are offering. I don't know about the other brands but if you have a relatively new Toyota - it's much better to go to the official Toyota for repairs.
