This place used to be called Friendly Car Care and back then they were amazing, but it seems they've been bought, are now called Lamb's Tire & Automotive, and are operating under new management. Took a car in for inspection early in the morning. They were super quick with it, which was great. However they told us the spark plugs that we replaced on this car just over a year ago somehow needed replacing again and quoted us over $400 for parts and 1 hr labor. The quoted parts were $160. Now, I'm not against paying for convenience, but I'm not about pay $220 for someone to unscrew four spark plugs and screw four new ones back in when everything is accessible right there on top without disassembly, seems overpriced for this job. An hour later, when I took the car home and took a look at it myself, the plugs looked like they hadn't even been touched so I have no idea how they were diagnosing it. Would have been great to see any photos of what they found, but that wasn't offered, and we didnt ask. I shouldnt have to ask, to be honest. I've been going to Friendly's on Burnet since at least 2011. My recent experience has shaken my confidence in this business and sadly I have truly lost trust in Friendly's. My Honda Pilot recently had an issue with the brakes going out. I immediately called Friendly's, had it towed and diagnosed. My rear brakes had gone out and needed fixing. No biggie, a brake job, right? Upon picking up my "newly installed brakes," I began to hear a sound as if a washing machine was powering down (which I never heard before ever) when braking over long distances and when on a downward slope. It continued for about a week or so and finally I called Friendly's thinking something was amiss. Sam was friendly and had me bring in my car again and they would take a look at it. During this time, the technician determined that the front rotors needed to be replaced and they would do so at no cost to me (why the front rotors I have no idea). I appreciated this courtesy and being someone who knows nothing about cars or brakes, I got on with my life. Upon taking the Pilot in again (2nd time), it was immediately apparent the sound was still there every time I was braking. I then brought my Pilot back to Friendly's for a third time (3rd). The technician rode in the car WITH me, so we could both hear the sound. He said he heard the sound, but it was faint. He worked on the car again. I even got the spiel that "new brakes sound different." After leaving again, the sound was still there. The technician attributed the sound to "road noise." I should have gone with my intuition and called Friendly's again for the fourth time (4th) , but the technician assured me before leaving the brake job was safe for my family and there was nothing wrong and it must be road noise. Flash forward two months and the noise is still there. In fact, the noise is getting worse. I can even hear the noise when braking at stop lights and when lightly pumping on the brakes. At this point, I'm preparing for a long drive/trip with my two young children through the mountains in my Pilot and my gut instinct was telling me to have it looked at. I then caved and took my Pilot to a Honda dealer. They informed me that the rear rotors had been cut poorly or were damaged by the installed ceramic pads when the brake job occurred and they needed to be replaced. At this point I called Friendly's and they asked me to bring it back to them for a fourth time (4th). Really? "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." I made sure Sam understood that I was incredibly hesitant and afraid to bring my car to them yet again, when clearly they could not fix it the three times prior I had brought my Pilot to them. He offered to refund what I paid for the brakes, but the refund did not cover the entire cost of the job at the Honda dealer. Friendly's was the one that messed up my Pilot's rear rotors (but they won't admit it, even though I heard the technician say he thought the machine wasn't cutting/resurfacing properly). I had to eat some of that cost, but at least I have peace of mind knowing it was fixed correctly and in one visit. After going through the paper work, I realized the back rotors had never been replaced, but instead it was the front rotors. I think this is odd because the original brake work had been done on the rear brakes. I would have been ok with a resurfacing, but after going three times for an issue that was never resolved was pretty frustrating. The Honda dealer associate showed me the rotors and the grooves in the rotors were causing the horrendous noise. My husband brought the rear rotors back to Friendly's (as requested) to show them their machine or ceramic pads they installed warped the REAR rotors (Of course they won't own up to this, even though the technician himself told me the machine possibly wasn't working properly). Once rear rotors were replaced, no noise. Greg can say the rotors did not need to be replaced, but the fact of the matter is they couldn't fix the issue in three tries when the Honda dealer fixed it in one. Yes, people make mistakes, but three times seems a bit excessive for anyone's patience. Simple as that. They refunded the money we paid for the brakes (which I am grateful), but they clearly should have refunded the money for our rear rotors. I am at a loss, disappointed and saddened by this whole affair. Honestly, my husband and I are so tired of dealing with all of this that we agreed to eat some of the cost so we don't have to deal with this issue anymore. Lesson learned; If Friendly's can't fix a simple brake job in three tries, what makes you think they can fix a more complex issue with your vehicle? It really should not have taken me going to a dealer or MY personal time to determine the issue for myself. *The rear rotors DID need to be replaced and now the noise has ceased. read more

I gave Friendly Car Care a try because they were conveniently located across the street from my work. I was bringing my truck in for an oil change and decided to replace the brake pads since I couldnt remember when I had done it last. They did a brake inspection and determined I still had plenty of pad left, and called me to let me know. Any other place would have been like, "well that's what the dumb lady asked for..... " And done and billed the unnecessary service. I'm so glad I've found an honest, reliable mechanic! Now I go to them for everything, and have been using them exclusively for 6 years now. They have shown themselves to be honest, which means A LOT to me! I was shocked and curious to see one star reviews for this place. It appears that these are "I have been happily coming here for years but --insert mishap-- happened" and now they feel compelled to give it a 1 star review because they are pissed at the moment. Car care is totally my achilles heel. I don't get it -- all I want is my car to run and to carry a bunch of stuff around. So when it was time for me to get my inspection done and my oil changed, I rooted around and found Friendlys. I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. I drop in, on a timetable, which is silly because everyone knows that you're gonna have to wait for a while for them to get your car in, then fix, then pay. But the guys at friendly's were able to get my car right in, do the inspection, do the oil change and pay right at $80 which seemed reasonable considering the addition of windshield wipers. Really nice guys, didn't have to wait too long and the price was right was I expected to pay. Oh and total bonus -- I didn't get the "we really should replace the air filter" BS that I get at jiffy lube every. single. time. read more

So, I brought my car down to Friendly Car Care for a second opinion. They took the time to do a thorough inspection, identified the work that *actually* needed to be done and prioritized repairs. I have never had better service in my life!! These guys are SO honest and so genuinely nice. I never get duped and they always educate me on what's going on. They never do unncessaey work, upcharge or upsell. This is a great place! They do a free look over in your car. They noticed my air cabin filter door was missing and was tearing up my filters (makes sense cause I was noticing it before I took it in for my brake pads). Anyways, I brought my car in for brake pads and wanted my car to be in and out same day. They called around, found this door, WENR AND PICKED IT UP and installed it same day. Pretty frustrated after taking my car in. I asked twice about a loud rotating noise low in my car when I drive was told the guy who test drove my car didn't hear anything. I assumed it was connected to the steering column repair, so I came in to pick it up anyway. It's a very obvious noise, driving slow or fast, and you can feel the car shake. There's no way it wasn't noticed. I paid 62 dollars for a 'noise diagnosis' that I don't even believe was done, and a huge issue in my car was ignored. I'm really disappointed in the service and won't be making the drive up front South Austin anymore. read more

I dropped my car off at 8am on a Friday to get a quote on a number of things. They said they would let me know pricing by the afternoon. I called near the end of the day and was told they didn't get to it yet and would call me Saturday afternoon. Saturday came and went with no call. I called them on Monday morning and was told they would have a summary for me in the afternoon. They finally did. The quotes seemed pretty high so I came in to pick up my car right before close and paid $100 for their "diagnoses" and to have them tell me what I already knew my car needed. All was fine until I actually went in my car. Not only was there stuff from my glove compartment and side door compartments on the floor and seats of my car (not that way when I dropped it off), but the seat belt covers for my back seats were broken, a portion of my car's leather cushioning in the back was hanging off the side, my airbag sign on one of my doors was glued back on with a very visible glue (and it fell off a few days later), and the airbag light on my dash was on (not that way when I dropped it off). I pointed out only the seat belt cover, the cushion and airbag light, not the rest of the mess. No apology was given, in fact and they said the plastic covers, like my car were old, and that's why they broke. They were not worn or brittle at all. The only way they could have broken was if whoever was handling them did so aggressively and without care. They said they would replace the covers and they put the cushion back. They said I would need to come back in another day for an hour so they can check the airbag light and they would call me when they get the seat belt covers came in (it's been nearly two weeks and still no call on the covers). Mistakes happen, but to return my car to me in worse condition than I dropped it off in is a huge turn off as was their lackadaisical reaction to that fact. I was raised with the importance of respecting others' things and if you borrow something, you return it exactly as you received it. Due to their carelessness with my car I will not bring it back to get any service done. How could I feel confident with them going anywhere near my car if they were this careless just in the quoting phase? I called my old mechanic from out of state who I completely trust and went over what I was quoted. He said the prices were very high. Sure enough I called some other shops here in town and was quoted significantly lower for the same work. Just two of the 5 issues I was quoted for here I was quoted $600 less elsewhere. Even crazier, I had another inspection done with a different mechanic and where Friendly said I needed to get something fixed on both sides, I saw with my own eyes how only one side needed fixing as the other side was fine. Friendly quoted me $900 for both sides, and the other shop only $150 for the one side that actually needed fixing. The condition my car was returned in and the fact that their carelessness will cost me more money now to get it back to the condition it was in before I left it with them leaves me with a really bad taste in my mouth and is very poor business on their part. I'm scratching my head over there being so many high reviews for this place. My experience with them was anything but 5 stars. read more

They fixed my ac. My car is 15 years old and most people who looked at it, just advised me to sell it. I don't want or need a car payment when this car runs just fine (52,000 miles, original owner). five times it was worked on. It would last one month and then *poof* blows warm air. "I think there's a leak" I said. "Probably your blower/compressor/fan" the masterly man would say. Then he'd charge my Visa and I'd have cool air for a month. So after several recommendations from work, I try Friendly's. I've had the compressor rebuilt, the blower replaced, the fan replaced, and two of whatever this little think is replaced. I think there's a leak." Two hours later they call me and tell me "You are right. You have a leak." They gave me the cost and fixed the sucker AND gave me a YEAR's warranty on the work. One. Year. I waited three months before writing this review because I wanted to make sure the work lasted. And if it kept me cool THIS summer, it was praiseworthy indeed. read more

Obviously seemed a bit high, so he took it to Uptown Auto Care on Anderson (which we found on Yelp) and they quoted him $850. Yep, half the price, and they are a super nice husband and wife team. I'm disappointed. I really thought Friendly Car Care were about truly helping people out and not ripping them off. I was wrong. Go to Uptown instead, that's where I'll be! read more

I don't see how it could be better. Greeted by the owner, offered coffee/tea/water in a comfortable setting that was clean (lay off on the pine sol ?!). They were fast and I didn't spend a fortune. Greg, Matt, and the crew were wonderful. I needed my tires looked at, a general tune up, and even new license plates put on. When I called in, they said no problem. They were super nice and told me to bring it in as soon as I wanted. After getting there and dropping it off, one of the crew drove me to my work which was such a nice touch. Really shows they care about their customers. Matt called me throughout the day to give me updates and explained everything thoroughly. He did not up-sell whatsoever. At the end of the day, the same crew member picked me up from work. My car drove off great with new license plates on, and my bill was way better than I expected. Just took my car to Friendly Car Care for the first time, for an oil change and state inspection. It was a great experience; so great that I created a yelp account for the first time just so I could review them. Apparently Saturdays are their slow days, which is why I was in and out in under 45 minutes. They pointed out a few minor things that I should get checked out in the future, but stressed that it wasn't necessary to have it taken care of immediately. I've NEVER heard any other mechanic say that; normally I'm told every little thing is urgent and needs to be done right THEN, by THEM. The guy at the counter (sorry Counter Guy, I didn't get your name) was great! He explained things to me in a way I could understand and answered my questions. Super personable! The lobby was extremely clean, chairs more comfortable than most car places, TV with a remote that I was told I could control, Keurig coffee and bottled water. I think they also have free wifi, but I didn't use it. Overall, the best experience I've had with any garage, from the fast lube places to those that require an appointment. I think you can schedule an appointment at Friendly's but I just walked in. Very happy that I chose Friendly's (based my decision on other yelp reviews--thanks Yelpers) and that it's close to my house! This will absolutely be my go-to place from now on! read more

Wow!! I've been going to the same auto care place for the past 10 years, but they've been annoying me lately with trying to upsell and telling me things that weren't true. I decided to try Friendly, and I'm so glad I did! I called in the morning and asked if I could come in for an oil change that same day. Michael said sure, come by at 10:15. I had some homework to do so I was just chilling in the waiting room (after Michael had lowered the volume on the TV for me) when I noticed I'd been here for kind of a long time. I guess they had to go get a filter so it took about an hour and 45 minutes. When I went to pay, Michael said they'd take care of it today because I waited so long. Love this place!! I can't say enough good things about friendly car care. Finding a trustworthy place to bring your car is such a treat and a stress-reliever. I know I'm being taken care of and not ripped off at FCC. The owner, Gregg, is as nice as they come. I brought my car here for the first time about five years ago maybe twice. Then I moved away for a couple years and came back and he remembered my name and details about my life. He only owns one location and I can tell he cares about his customers. The manager, Mike, is the same. He is friendly and knowledgeable. He tells you straight up, what's going on with the car, whether it needs to be fixed, etc. Oh, and they also give rides! I'm always skeptical about businesses that "promise something" in their name or on their signage. Best Burger on the planet, my ass. Friendly Car Care lives up to its name. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I recently needed to have my car inspected and found the business across the street on Yelp. When I arrived, I told them I need the passenger side headlight replaced... they weren't up for the challenge and suggested I try Friendly Care Care. Pros: great communication, trustworthy, on-time, went the extra mile (see below) Cons: price was slightly above the high end of the estimate range (see below) I usually rank car repair with dental work in terms of overall dread. Not so at Friendly Car Care. 3/10/16 - I took my 2002 Toyota Tacoma in to Friendly to diagnose what I feared was a big problem. Sure enough, it was - transmission needed to be replaced or rebuilt! Friendly doesn't rebuild transmissions, so that could have been the end of the story. Instead of sending me on my way, they not only recommended a transmission shop, but coordinated the whole repair and kept me informed with regular updates. When they got the truck back from the transmission shop, they did their own testing to make sure everything was right before they called to let me know it was ready. The explanations of diagnoses, options suggested, estimates, and overall professionalism of both the staff at Friendly and the staff of the transmission shop left me feeling like I was dealing with people I could trust and who knew what they were doing - a big deal in the world of auto repair! The only slight miss was the estimate for the repair. The estimate was $3,200 - $3,900 and the final bill ended up being ~$4,100. But, honestly, a $200 difference on a $4k bill seems pretty close to on target. Hopefully I won't need any truck repair for a while, but when I do, I'll be back to Friendly Car Care. Took the car to friendly car care to do inspection and also asked them to do oil change. They called me and told me that their records show that I do not need an oil change for another 2000 miles. In my experience with them, they are very honest and will only recommend required fixes and nothing more. read more

My Wife's Land Cruiser was overheating in this hot summer weather and she had to pull over near the Domain to let it cool off. We poured some water in it to see how far we get it down the road to our regular car shop to check it out. We did not make it too far as it the engine started overheating again and we pulled it into a gas station on Burnet Rd. As I sat there waiting for it to cool off again so we could attempt to get it to our usual shop further down the road, I noticed the big Friendly Car Care sign and building that shared the same parking lot as the gas station we pulled into. I asked my wife to "Yelp" them and see if we should take it there rather than chance it getting on down the road and making the situation worse. Turns out they had GREAT reviews, so I walked over and asked them if they could take a look at it. They did, estimated what may be the issue could be, told me my options and approximate price to fix. We ended up leaving it with them overnight so it could cool down and they could replace the thermostat and make sure there were no other issues that may have occurred because of the overheating. It turns out we were all good with just the thermostat and it was ready to go the next day. The guys at Friendly were awesome to work with, knowledgeable and nice as can be. The reviews you read here on Yelp about these guys are true and accurate. By chance, I think I have found my new auto care guys here in Austin and I have already recommended many of my friends to take there cars to Friendly as well. read more

I went to FCC this morning for an oil change. They promised to be done in an hour or so, and I sat down in the waiting area and had a very good cup of coffee. It took, alas, almost two hours. When I went to check out, they comped me the entire cost of the oil change (and tire rotation). I tried to pay for supplies at least and they politely refused. Fantastic service! FCC changed owners about 18 months ago, and I was afraid that the quality of the service would suffer. I must say that from my perspective, it has gotten only better. By the way, FCC will happily let you bring in your own oil, if you can get a better deal on Mobil 1 at Wally-World, for instance. read more

They live up to their name! They worked on my GMC SUV quickly and even explained to me what was wrong with it. They offered me a ride home but I sat in the lobby which was surprisingly comfortable and got some work done. After the diagnostic test they told me a time the repairs would be completed. I took them up on their offer of a ride home. Repairs were done in the time quoted and the price ended up actually being LESS than what we had discussed. Overall this was an amazing experience- I went into it dreading the headache and came out with a happy truck and confident in a repair shop that I trust. Many thanks to the staff :) read more

NEVER DO A CAR BUYER"S CHECK HERE! I was selling a car and the potential buyer came here to do a pre-buyer's check (always what I recommend before buying any car-including mine). The buyer's check was unlike any I have EVER seen before, and I buy/sell cars often. The buyer's report didn't write up the car issues, or have a normal check-off list. instead, it was a report that included about 14 pages of Friendly Car Care's price to replace potential issues and a couple of real minor issues. The report was overinflated and scary to the potential buyers. For instance, they said the car battery looked to be leaking somewhere (although I couldn't see it) and the estimate to replace the battery was about $200! Wow, most expensive battery replacement I've ever seen, and so the reports similarly went on, naming potential issues and minor issues and the cost to replace each item and everything associated with replacing the item. Seems this place is all about the upcharge. Really, the stuff Friendly Car Care reported on was very normal for any car of this age/mileage and most were not current issues, but instead stuff that might need to be done over the next year or two! Additionally, the report turned out to be very offensive to me, a seller of a car in very good condition and it cost me a buyer-who doesn't completely understand normal wear and future maintenance vs a current problem issue. read more

After stopping by a vehicle inspection station across the street (with an approx 45-60 minute wait) I stopped over here to Friendly Car Care! The shop was spacious, air conditioned, and had free refreshments. The two gentleman at the front were super nice and got me in and out in about 10 minutes. We have a secondary car that we have around "just in case". The A/C needed some work and Mike at Friendly Car Care really took care of us. As he was checking it out, one of the hoses for the A/C broke and they replaced it for free - he even called me to tell me about it. Most shops would have just padded the bill. And when he replaced the hose and then finished his inspection, the repair they did for us was significantly cheaper than we expected.
