I stopped by Advanced Auto and Tire due to my regular shop down the street asking me to leave my truck for several days before they could even look at it. Advanced Auto and Tire was able to get me in for 2 new tires of my preferred brand, diagnose the suspension issue I had and replaced the left upper control arm and ball joint, and aligned my truck. They had me out in 2 hours for a fair price. This morning I was changing the oil and noticed that they had lubed my entire front end while they were working on it, not just the ball joint they replaced...nice touch. Advanced Automotive and Tire is THE BEST mechanic shop in all of Austin, and maybe even Central Texas. The service here is amazing. The guys up front, Chance and Chris, are like encyclopedias and explain the nuances of -"cars"- in a clear way that is easy for the novice to understand. When I come here I don't get the run-around. They give it to me straight and then tell me my options! And such friendly service! My car is 18 years old and looks every minute of it. I got an oil change and brake inspection here in October, and the very polite man behind the counter told me the squeak was probably just brake dust but that the pads were down to 30% so I should think about getting those changed soon. I thanked him and said I'd think about it. Which is really good because their brake jobs start at $275... and when I had another place do the brakes today, it turned out the pads are at 80% in front and 50% in back. Not the only place in Austin to try and sell me work the car doesn't need. Ladies with crappy looking cars, I advise you to shop around in this town. read more

2 words: HIGHLY RECOMMEND I am so glad I have finally found the right place!! It all started in when I called to check availability and price for an oil change. Shaun was very polite and gave me all the info I needed, I dropped off my car and came back a couple of hours later to pick it up, everything was just right. Later on I had a problem with the throttle body, I called in a few places and tried to get an estimate before bringing it in. This place by far had the most affordable price. I messaged them via Yelp and Shaun and Chase helped me with all my questions. They knew I needed my car for work so they offered transportation at no cost! How great is that! Today I went in because my valve covers were leaking oil, & they knew just exactly what I needed. Shaun set me up with a detailed plan with estimates and quickly we set up an appointment. I went in, they dropped me off at work fixed my car and it was all done in one day! This is definitely the go to place to get your automotive needs! They are so professional, friendly and their quality of work is just great! I have had really great experiences every time from scheduling with Chase, to bombarding Shaun with my million questions. These guys do "ok" auto work but their REAL specialty is the upsale. Took my car in for a basic oil change. While up on the rack they sniff around and find anything else they can charge you for. On this particular day it comes back I need new brakes, I was told my car is not safe for the road. The price quoted for new brakes was over $800. $800?? Are you on crack? I politely said "Hell no"! Then he tries to guilt me into it by saying I shouldn't even be driving this vehicle. Whatever man. After I left this rip-off joint I went directly to a local brake shop. Had all four brakes done for around $100. Know your stuff when you go into this place...these guys are sharks. read more

I took my Explorer to get a door handle repaired that had broken and provided the replacement handle to them that I had bought off of the internet. It was replaced and proceeded to break again a week later. I haven't bothered to take it back to be fixed again because I bought a new car anyway. Doesn't seem like they did quality work to me if it broke so quickly again after being installed. Wouldn't really recommend them based on this experience. read more

I've relied on Advanced since I moved to Austin in 2018. Always great service and if they're backed up, they let you know. They will call you with an estimate and reasonable recommendations. Generally, needed replacement parts are OEM which I prefer to after-market products that in general, are not as reliable as the manufacturer's. read more

I won't take my car anywhere else if I can help it. I have never felt like they were trying to "up sell" anything to me. I've even asked if certain maintenance was required, and if I don't need it, they won't do it. (Been there 4 or 5 times in the last 2 years). I would say they're moderately priced...not too expensive, but not exactly cheap. That being said, knowing I can trust their work and they are honest, I have never had an issue with their prices. They also offer free WiFi in the waiting room, which is a plus when getting my car worked on because I can comfortably work from there. They tend to work fast too if you can get there early enough. I took a chance and went with an unyelped auto mechanic. I got a quote for a new alternator, the first was with the super duper alternator, the second with a good one. I went with the good since I'm cheap, or at least need to be. I was quoted $350. After having the alternator installed the price was $5 dollars cheaper, which makes me happy, because I'm cheap, but also because it wasn't more than what they said it'd be. I didn't get any shady vibes while I was there, oh and will I was waiting, they let me store my laptop in a office so it was safe while I walked to the post office. **UPDATED** I mentioned in another mechanics review that I had to have a belt replaced, because these guys changed the alternator and the belt didn't fit, they told me I needed a new belt, but not why. So I guess make sure you ask about everything and why they're doing it. Oh and if you're local to Austin, they'll give you a lift! read more

I've since been back to this little automotive gem about 4 times (everyone was right, I totally jinxed myself by bragging about my car passing inspection) and I still 100% love them. From changing your oil to replacing the motor in the your window to dealing with the mysterious rotor something or other... they are good. They are honest. They are totally reasonable. And they are fast! At the risk of sounding like a played out commercial, having a mechanic (or group thereof) you feel like you can trust is absolutely priceless. This place is fantastic - I'm grateful to find such a solid business to help me with my car. Chase is by far #1 in helping you understand what's going on with your car and what they are doing and what it will take. I had gone there three months ago for an oil change and a check on my windshield washer fluid motor (the Honda dealership on Steck had "fixed" it three times for me already each time never working) and Chase had to order a part for it. I needed my car back that day so he said I could pay for the oil change when I came back - well my dog got incredibly sick and we identified a heart issue - three months later, we just lost my dog last week - totally heartbreaking. Chase had only called me a few times - so he was by no means bothering me, just checking in (remember I still owed them for the oil change). I showed up today and after awhile Chase remembered me, remembered exactly what I needed done with my car and was taking care of it. Three months I owed them for this oil change while I was losing my best friend (yes, my dog was my best friend) and they were still good with me walking in and getting back to business. Needed tires rotated and gave them a call today. Left my office and they had my car in and out in 10 min. Had not been to them before and they did not charge me for the rotation even as I tried to pay for the job. This level of service doesn't exist often today and doesn't go unappreciated.
