Rear Rotors replaced by Honda dealer( Notice how "new" they look)
Sherry P.

I've been going to Friendly's on Burnet since at least 2011. My recent experience has shaken my confidence in this business and sadly I have truly lost trust in Friendly's. My Honda Pilot recently had an issue with the brakes going out. I immediately called Friendly's, had it towed and diagnosed. My rear brakes had gone out and needed fixing. No biggie, a brake job, right? Upon picking up my "newly installed brakes," I began to hear a sound as if a washing machine was powering down (which I never heard before ever) when braking over long distances and when on a downward slope. It continued for about a week or so and finally I called Friendly's thinking something was amiss. Sam was friendly and had me bring in my car again and they would take a look at it. During this time, the technician determined that the front rotors needed to be replaced and they would do so at no cost to me (why the front rotors I have no idea). I appreciated this courtesy and being someone who knows nothing about cars or brakes, I got on with my life. Upon taking the Pilot in again (2nd time), it was immediately apparent the sound was still there every time I was braking. I then brought my Pilot back to Friendly's for a third time (3rd). The technician rode in the car WITH me, so we could both hear the sound. He said he heard the sound, but it was faint. He worked on the car again. I even got the spiel that "new brakes sound different." After leaving again, the sound was still there. The technician attributed the sound to "road noise." I should have gone with my intuition and called Friendly's again for the fourth time (4th) , but the technician assured me before leaving the brake job was safe for my family and there was nothing wrong and it must be road noise. Flash forward two months and the noise is still there. In fact, the noise is getting worse. I can even hear the noise when braking at stop lights and when lightly pumping on the brakes. At this point, I'm preparing for a long drive/trip with my two young children through the mountains in my Pilot and my gut instinct was telling me to have it looked at. I then caved and took my Pilot to a Honda dealer. They informed me that the rear rotors had been cut poorly or were damaged by the installed ceramic pads when the brake job occurred and they needed to be replaced. At this point I called Friendly's and they asked me to bring it back to them for a fourth time (4th). Really? "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." I made sure Sam understood that I was incredibly hesitant and afraid to bring my car to them yet again, when clearly they could not fix it the three times prior I had brought my Pilot to them. He offered to refund what I paid for the brakes, but the refund did not cover the entire cost of the job at the Honda dealer. Friendly's was the one that messed up my Pilot's rear rotors (but they won't admit it, even though I heard the technician say he thought the machine wasn't cutting/resurfacing properly). I had to eat some of that cost, but at least I have peace of mind knowing it was fixed correctly and in one visit. After going through the paper work, I realized the back rotors had never been replaced, but instead it was the front rotors. I think this is odd because the original brake work had been done on the rear brakes. I would have been ok with a resurfacing, but after going three times for an issue that was never resolved was pretty frustrating. The Honda dealer associate showed me the rotors and the grooves in the rotors were causing the horrendous noise. My husband brought the rear rotors back to Friendly's (as requested) to show them their machine or ceramic pads they installed warped the REAR rotors (Of course they won't own up to this, even though the technician himself told me the machine possibly wasn't working properly). Once rear rotors were replaced, no noise. Greg can say the rotors did not need to be replaced, but the fact of the matter is they couldn't fix the issue in three tries when the Honda dealer fixed it in one. Yes, people make mistakes, but three times seems a bit excessive for anyone's patience. Simple as that. They refunded the money we paid for the brakes (which I am grateful), but they clearly should have refunded the money for our rear rotors. I am at a loss, disappointed and saddened by this whole affair. Honestly, my husband and I are so tired of dealing with all of this that we agreed to eat some of the cost so we don't have to deal with this issue anymore. Lesson learned; If Friendly's can't fix a simple brake job in three tries, what makes you think they can fix a more complex issue with your vehicle? It really should not have taken me going to a dealer or MY personal time to determine the issue for myself. *The rear rotors DID need to be replaced and now the noise has ceased.

Finally! An honest mechanic. Straight shooting, knowledgable and genuinely friendly. Best car care experience in Austin in 25 years.

The most honest mechanics I have ever worked with. I have taken my car here twice for brake pad…read morereplacements and both times they were transparent about what services I needed, and they will take the time to fully explain to you why they recommend the services that they do. Recently I came in to replace the rear brake pads because my Mini Cooper gave an automatic warning to replace them based on mileage. I brought it to Auto 7 Tech; rather than simply replacing the pads they inspected it and actually told me that the pad thickness was fine and that I didn't need to replace them yet - the prioritized being honest over getting me to pay for potentially unnecessary service. However when I went to pick my car up, they let me know that they had inspected more closely and found that the inner surface on the left pad was indeed worn down. I appreciate this attention to detail and transparency. I also asked them if I needed to replace the rotors, and they told me that they had driven the car around and concluded that the rotors didn't need replacement (in contrast two other shops insisted on bundling the pad replacement and the rotor replacement). In my experience Auto 7 also gives very fair pricing compared to other shops. At Auto7 they will inspect your car carefully and thoroughly before recommending service, and they will not try to upsell you or take advantage of you.

I started checking in, and the worker asked if I wanted to add tire rotation. I said yes, and everything seemed to be going smoothly. While I waited for them to finish, I decided to take a walk and browse the stores around the area. Fast forward to 10 AM, and I returned to find my car still in the same spot. I was a bit upset to see that it hadn't been worked on yet. I went to get a status update with the manager, and he asked if I had an appointment. I told him I had one at 8 AM. He then started looking for my appointment on his computer and told me he couldn't find it. I pulled out my phone to show him the reservation, but he still said he was having trouble finding it. His coworker chimed in and told him the number of the appointment. He then said that they had cars from overnight that they were working on first. I would have understood if this had been communicated to me when I arrived at 8 AM, but it wasn't. So, I waited for 3.5 hours, and my car was finally done at 11:25 AM. I paid and left with my invoice emailed to me. Please don't come here. They don't care about customer service or setting expectations. If an oil change takes 3 hours, they should at least communicate that to the customer. Many of us don't want to spend all day at an auto shop on our day off, especially since this was just for an oil change. To add to this experience, it was raining, and instead of parking my car in the covered area in front of the shop, they parked it in the parking lot. I will not be returning to any Firestone in Austin. This is the second store location I have tried, and I have left extremely disappointed. They don't respect your time, and if you arrive early, even if it's just three minutes before your appointment, they should also respect your time as you have respected there time by arriving early or in time

They were supposed to remove a nail in one of my tires and patch it up. A few days later the tire was low again and noticed the nail was still in the tire. Went back and they said they fixed the wrong tire when there was no issue with the tire. Lots of unprofessionalism and disorganization in the shop. I recommend going somewhere else if you're trying to avoid a very negative experience.
