Had an early morning doctors appointment with in walking distance was the Quality shop. Decided to grab both breakfast and lunch for today while there. Ordered a Bacon, egg, and cheese on an English with extra bacon and a Ham sandwich with lettuce and black olives. No cheese and dry, I know WHAT!!? Sometimes I like my sandwich's simple and clean. They were not busy so the gentleman behind the counter happily prepare my food. I walked around and found many items here from fresh brewed coffee to a half gallon of milk, kitchen items, and health items as well. While waiting another gentleman asked if he could ring me up, sure! They accept cards and cash. I was out of cash to tip as this is a place you can show your appreciation for their work. Next time! In less then 10 minutes I was on my way. Fast and friendly service! The only draw back was some of the lettuce on my sandwich was translucent so either held too close to the refrigerator sides or it has gone by. Had to remove a good amount of, but still had enough for my lunch. Breakfast sand wish was good, I really liked how well done the egg was with crispy edges. Over all I'll be back. The prices have gotten high for only average food in general, but that's not the reason for the one star. Today, after I paid, I noticed on the computer screen that a 6% surcharge is being added to all purchases, as an employee wellness fee. Again...this is a retail sandwich shop/convenience store! I've never even seen a 6% fee at a restaurant. It's so egregious, it's beyond belief. And it's not transparent. I bet 95% of customers don't even know they're paying this, especially the nearby school kids who are a sizable percentage of the clientele. I would recommend Anania's as a similar type of store nearby instead. read more

Quality Shop is a Deering Center neighborhood icon, and not just for its location. For 23 years, we've been getting pizza and Italians (if you're a Mainer, you know) there, and have never been disappointed. (Once, in 2000, we got a pizza that was kind of a bummer, but I have almost forgotten and definitely forgiven that.) Lately, the food has just been getting better, the DESSERTS are huge and delicious, and the folks there recognize and like my dog. Oh, the coffee "bar" is also awesome. The Quality shop has one of my favorite chicken salad sandwiches in Portland. The staff has always been great anytime I've gone in there. They also have one of the best brownies you could ever have. I'm not sure what they do to the brownie, but it's amazing just to be fully transparent. I'm not a big fan of any other pizza or Hot top items that sit out. I go to the Quality Shop at least once every month for lunch because it is a short walk away from my school (Deering High School.) It's great! It has everything I need for lunch. I usually pick up a ham Italian and some chips for my lunch. I recommend it for lunch if you want to have a great sandwich. The only downside of Quality is that the line is usually very long; if I want to get a good spot in line I literally have to run from my class to Quality! The prices are WAY out of hand for the quality of the food. I've gone here since I was a kid (I went to all three schools) and absolutely loved the place. Fortunately for the business, they're in a prime location where kids will pay whatever to not eat school food and they don't need to worry about the negative image created by their price gouging. I definitely enjoy the pizza, for the price it's worth it. The breakfast sandwiches are kinda crappy though. The eggs are over cooked and they don't use but a scrap of bacon on them. Beer and wine and an assortment of food and household supplies make it a great little shop. The guy with the purple hair definitely makes me uncomfortable. He seems to be barely holding back his rage that he has to deal with customers and always mutters some nasty little remark under his breath as I'm leaving. He may think I can't hear him but I do... so if I see him at the register I will usually skip it. This place is amazing. I came for lunch, and it was so amazing, I had to come back later that day for dinner. This is a simple store which sells items you'd find at a nice gas station, including a wide variety of coffee, alcohol, wine, drinks, and snacks. But the real treat here is the grilled food. The food is simple, yet well-done and made-to-order (they also have pre-made food if you're in a hurry). Quality Shop has TONS of grilled food. Thank to the friends I came with, I was able to try a poorboy, burger, fries, and pizza, and they're all very tasty (they also have healthier options like salads and grilled chicken wraps if that's your style). But best of all, the prices here cannot be beat. My friends and I came on a Sunday, which happens to be their 2 for 1 deal on 10-inch pizzas. I also enjoyed the friendly staff during my visits here. The lady at the grill made some recommendations for my first visit, and the other staff members were a pleasure to talk to while we waited for our food. Long story short, if you're looking for inexpensive yet tasty food served by great people, look no further and come to Quality Shop right away! Oh my god - this place suffers from a severe case of poor branding! "Quality Shop" just doesn't do it justice. Okay, do this: if you're at the Quality Shop, buy one of their cookie whoopie pies. NOW dang it - before they're all gone! The molasses cookie whoopie is to DIE for and the oatmeal? So. So. Good. The staff is friendly and helpful for the most part, and you really feel like you are in a neighborhood store. If I were just rating their desserts this would be a 5+ star place. The chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting is to die for. The chocolate chip cookie bars are also delicious. The reason for a one star deduction is the pizza was not that great. It was okay, but it was also cheap. For a large cheese pizza it is around 11.99. The prices can't be beat, so I can't really complain. The other downside is they do not have an online menu, so to figure out what type of pizza they have you have to call or stop in. This can be inconvenient when you like specialty pizzas. A plus is they have 2 for 1 small pizzas on Sunday. Quality Shop! One of those convenience stores that won't let you down! If you ever need a quick bite to eat, something to snack on, or need something essential for your house then Quality shop is the way to go. Although it may not have everything, it does supply you things that are needed for emergency purposes. Household items, ATM, drinks, food. The other day I was there for some food. They have well done customer service and the atmosphere is nice. Televisions are great quality with calories and prices along with them. They have a variety of foods ranging from burgers to sandwiches as well as buffalo chicken. Not THE best food in town but it will get you going if you're ever hungry. That day I got a steak and cheese sandwich for eight dollars and buffalo wings for 6. I would recommend something else like the pizzas! Anyways, good spot to get food on the go.
